Hanagasa

Lovely fresh, soft, earthy floral. I’m mainly getting sunflower (like a softer version of sunflower seed or sesame) with a bit of nitro musk underneath, a slight sparkle of aldehydes, a breath of carnation. Really brings to mind the slightly brown-tinged yellows that dominated much of the 70s. Think Shelley duvall’s apartment in 3 women. Could definitely be worn by any gender. I personally love this one, and find it easy to wear for any occasion. Edit 10/19/2024: I still love this perfume and wear it often! I would compare it to the soft nuttiness of Hermès Un Jardin à Cythère with a hefty dose of waxy Chanel No. 5 -esque aldehydes (the aldehydes here lean less soapy than in many other Avon florals). I also detect a narcissus note these days.

I might come back to write a longer review. I love finding vintage perfumes that 1) aren't too expensive and 2) show me a new side to perfumery/fragrance, something modern scents haven't shown me before. Hana Gasa is so fresh. It's got this hay note and this startling, almost "starchy" note that I can't really place. It's a noticeable scent - people will tell you that you smell so clean and fresh - but only for like 2 hours. I wish it lasted longer on my skin. But I like it! I wonder who wore this in the early seventies - what kind of life did they lead? I like feeling connected to the past through scent. The closest modern(ish) scent I can relate it to is original Clinique Happy or Estee's White Linen.

A soft, lightly sweet floral. Makes me think of a gentle spring rain. Fresh and clean. The perfect scent to wear when you've had a long, hard day. Avon should bring this back. Please. (BTW, "Hanagasa" is Japanese for, "the umbrella that does not get wet". In other words, "parasol".)

This is a very very nice cologne. To me it is one of the nicest Avon Vintages. It is difficult to describe classic powdery and floral. This is soft and not cloying. I think this would sell if they relaunched as it is an all arounder.
