Honeysuckle

As it happens every year, I go through this phase where I've maxed out on all my favorite, rich, heavy-hitting oriental fragrances that dominate my collection and I crave some lush tropical flowers. A little vacation to a tropical island of the mind. A few days spent in my "summer collection" fits the bill. I have this little bottle of vintage Avon Honeysuckle perfume oil and it is going to be my SOTD. Someone once said that this was one of the most true honeysuckle perfumes ever made and I will say that this is really something to be experienced if you love honeysuckle. I've seen some early beginnings of honeysuckle blooming where I live but it isn't quite here yet. A couple drops of this oil and wow-zuh! I feel like I'm wearing a floral cotton dress, wreath of flowers in my hair and lingering in a huge garden of flowers. Just what my mood needed! My late sister sold Avon in the late 60's-early '80's, and all of the ladies in our family had Avon Honeysuckle. I owned the solid version, which was wonderful. To me it smelled of 100% honeysuckle, very happy and springlike. I really miss this one.

THE best Honeysuckle EVER. Period.

Extra honeyed honeysuckle. It’s a sticky bomb, really pungent and fruity-sweet, but not cloying and the honeysuckle is indeed the closest to the real thing, I ever smelled. Mine is from the 60'ties, so it is very likely to be the original.

This holds a special place in my heart! I think it was the very first true scent I chose, bought, and wore as a child. My Mom and I did not have extra money to spend on Avon products, but I was always fascinated by their samples and brochures, and the ladies who sold and used them regularly. I’d chosen a small white flocked glass bottle of a carrot eating rabbit, filled with Honeysuckle cologne, to spend my savings on. I remember it as being so fresh and cheerful, a celebration of Spring banishing the drab remnants of Winter; it really lifted my spirits out of the endless grey, rainy days. Before this, I’d only used all the Johnson’s Baby items, and other drugstore stuff made to encourage little kids to clean up. This was a real step up for me!

I had this in a balm form. It's the first fragrance type product that I can remember was just mine! I really wish that I could find the spray and the balm. I'd love to have that in my collection. The packaging is adorable. I know that packaging is not everything, but I've always been a sucker for good packaging. It pulls you in, grabs your attention, and scents and fragrances are an experience anyways. Packaging adds to it! Plus they look great in your display/s. I can still remember the smell of Honsuckle. From what I recall the closest thing that I can get to this was Bath and Body Works Butterfly Flower, but Butterfly Flower is way stronger.

So, 2 days ago, I received a gorgeous little bottle of this "suckle" :) Bought it online from a vendor who had more vintage Avon perfumes. The carton and bottle look totally seventies, so adorable. I had read it here on Fragrantica, that, surprisingly, Avon perfumes don't seem to turn like others do. This seems to be the case aswell, because it smells wonderful, allthough so old!

bought a bundle on eBay with here's my heart for my grandma's nostalgia, even with a broken sprayer I can still smell the scent profile. this proofs to me fragrances doesn't expire, and this smells like a garden of honeysuckles and it's beautiful how you can smell the earthiness with the greeness of the stem of a plant to the actual flower it self. unique one of a kind perfume.

What a treat to find this in the "Honey Bee" bottle from 1978 and have the fragrance still be in great shape. A lovely floral honey. These vintage Avons are modern marvels. If they haven't been baking in a sunny window somewhere they really do keep for ages.

My second perfume and first that I purchased by myself when I was a teenager. It came in a glass bottle in the shape of a unicorn. Wish I could find it again.

I remember this. It smelled just like honeysuckle. I loved it as a little girl. I wish they'd bring it back!
