Leather Cologne

Love this, and this is another review from memories of my late Pa + sniffing the bottles (the black car with a red cap and the amber car with a black tire cap). It's really similar to Wild Country (which he also wore so I guess that explains that) but I think it's less layered and more zesty. More hyper clean feeling. It does mellow out but it retains more zestyness if I'm remembering right. It's probably not a smell most people could or would wear these days (or you'll "smell like an old man.") But it has some really nice notes. It definitely is a "manly" scent. I think the citrus is more forward than it is with Wild Country. There's a bit of powder-ness to the smell, maybe that's the oakmoss, as I am new to this and can't ID everything. I do think I get the bergamot but I would not say this smells like leather itself. There might be a hint of that but it isn't forward, despite the name. If there's a leather smell it's more of an emotion of mid-century man than anything?

Liquefied, condensed hypermasculinity. Aramis respectfully nods to him from across the saloon but keeps a wary eye. He's what English Leather wants to be when he grows up. I've NEVER found any bottle, no matter how old, that had gone off or weak. Wonderful stuff. Warning: women may not like it but you won't care. It will cause soy-based lifeforms to spontaneously combust from the instant testosterone spike.

Smelled the residue of this scent in an empty old decanter at Goodwill today. Avon Leather reminded me very much of Miss Balmain. I'm kind of in disbelief, as Miss Balmain is a favorite and difficult to find (and expensive when you do.) Surely the longevity of a cologne can't compete with my beloved MB, but I'd love to own something I can splash with reckless abandon instead of having to savor each drop as I do with MB. Spicy, leather, citrus, and herbs. Off to hunt down a full bottle!

Old school classic Avon. The leather in this comes off more sweet than dark. Similar to Avon Wild Country. Feels good on the skin after a shower and shave. I wear it to church on Sunday mornings occasionally. I own the "Leather Roadster," which was picked up in a stash of old, collector Avon bottles found online. I have no idea how old it is (fonts, graphics, writing seem 70's), but holding it's base scent. I enjoy it. 6.5/10

Leather Cologne Spray - Avon Opaque, baby-poop-tan, plastic boot bottle labelled three ounces with "3011" imprinted into the sole. Would the fragrance have degenerated since, say, 1967, into essentially, sickly sweetness? That's mostly what I pick up, something like flat, off-brand root beer. On the sprayer and in the air, it comes off as powerful, over-the-top, overbearing, intimidating. (Be afraid; be very afraid.) On the body—indirectly, lightly—not so bad. Not getting leather, unfortunately. My thin review gets thinner here as I soon layered with Gucci Guilty Absolute for men, heavily favoring the Gucci, the idea being to bring GGA's dry wood in to balance Avon's sweetness. I don't hate the combo, and it seems worth exploring some more. _____ 21 April 2025 Not so scary . . . not even very strong . . . at least, in this example. Nothing to fear here. Still not perceiving leather.

One of my absolute favorite fragrances! But it has to be the original 1965-66 iteration, as those seem to be the two that have are the juice of legend. I've had many bottles over the years... The later ones just don't have the "oomph", although the product is still decent. But, oh... The original cologne in the "goofy looking" , dark brown glass boot with the brush finished brass cap! That's where it's at! They are still available now and then, new old stock that wasn't sold, or something that might have been given as a gift, but saved "for good". I come across at least one every year in an antique mall somewhere... I've found a couple on The Bay. Don't pay more than $20 for it, unless you HAVE TO... But cor the person who really loves an Old School POWERHOUSE, this is one of those "must haves"... You won't be disappointed. A few other really great LEATHER frags from days gone by, are Cuir De Russie from the house of L.T. Piver, "Russian Leather" by Countess Maritza, and also Russian Leather by Saxony (really big through the 50s up into the 1970s).... Oh... And for the folks who love the old Avon Leather Cologne, I'd recommend them also finding a vintage bottle of "Oland"... Also really incredible! And there's also the original release of Avon's Black Suede... Mid 1980s and the original juice really is great and very complex! These are just a few fun and relatively easy vintage fragrances to find... Hopefully you can acquire them!

At last success! I had so much trouble getting any of this posted to me in AU form the US. Several eBay sellers had to refund, as either the product got seized by US customs & returned, & other unlucky sellers had the item destroyed. Must be down to what freight service is used? But alas! a "pipe", called "Pipedream" which was more 'Pipe-nightmare'; a kinda scary looking humanesque-smoking implement hybrid in dark-glass. Full of this charming vintage juice, it arrived today! And yes, an unambiguous solid blokey comfort frag. A bit weak & short on the lifespan, but considering age? no batch-code? & it's an aftershave not a cologne; this is still good. Leather, woody, inky-petrol vibe in a good way. Not much citrus as talked about; might've burnt-off with age. If cheap enough sources avail', will reorder this in cologne strength, several bottles too. Good to lash into when the mood takes. This has rekindled a leather-quest which seasonally beckons. After soaps, deodorants....all avail body-products. Once you start you can't stop. And cheers Ray (Achnioach)........power of suggestion....'retro-vintage kick': Evoked!

I’m on one of my retro-vintage kicks (a regular phenomenon). Yesterday AvonTai Winds and today Avon Leather. Wow! Leather is the King of the vintage “barbershop fragrances”. Big, bold, powerful and hairy chested manly. This is a sweet, animalic, sthick leather fragrance. A bit of citrus and rounds it out with a dash offer oakmoss. But it’s big leather that jumps out at you. This isn’t a shy fragrance, big and bold it’s very gregarious. The fragrance is a true powerhouse .

I agree with Scentiful. This is not only one of the most hideous and cursed fragrance bottles I've ever seen but one of the worst THINGS I've ever seen. I wish I could unsee it so badly.
