I smell this when I first spray Velvet, then it evaporates and becomes much less noticeable. Velvet has fragrance notes that are mysterious, sexy, and really draw you in...this wears almost like a musk. It has a covert flirtatious quality to it where this reads "sensuous". Velvet is in the same family of scents such as Narcisso Rodriques for Her... a musky, alluring quality which reads more introvert - than extravert. Wow! This is one of those that I catch myself constantly smelling my wrists -- almost as if by compulsion. ! The notes are complex -- elegant, sophisticated. Better yet, this is smart - because this is a great fragrance at a great price... for those women that realize that shopping smart is super Amazing! This smells like a very sophisticated Rose Oude - which is FABULOUS! ------------ I fell in love with Avon's Rare Pearls, Rare Gold, and Rare Amethyst - over 8 years ago. Have been seeking another Avon fragrance that I love as much as these three. Before trying Velvet - I found "Today" which I love for the spring and summer. But this Velvet line is definitely something that I would recommend for the fall and winter -- possibly spring and summer evenings! Wearing Velvet for the first time - this week, and I LOVE it! It wears much better with the shower gel and body lotion. All are GREAT Products! Love this! This is truly AWESOME! ------------ This Avon fragrance is just now launching. Their samples are already maxed out. You are put on a list to receive them as soon as they come available. Definitely worth diving into with a blind buy. At $30.00 for the fragrance, lotion, and bath gel - this is a tremendous value! The bath gel is heavenly - fills your bathroom area with a wonderful fragrance that lasts a few hours. The lotion glides like silk across your skin, absorbs fully - and leaves a wonderful hint of fragrance in its wake! Love both - and both extend wear and potency with layering! ---------- Some have compared this fig in Avon's Velvet with the classic fragrance by Dior - Poison. I truly LOVE Poison, have for years. This starts strong with the initial spray - but within about 30 minutes it wears much closer to the skin than Poison. I feel that it would be much less offensive to those that are polarized by the notes in the original Poison. Velvet is office friendly - particularly after the first 30 minutes. Velvet is a great date and romance fragrance - but could easily be worn to the office, with much less offense than heavier perfumes. Avon - Thank YOU! You crafted this with so much care! I LOVE it! -------------- If you like Avon's Velvet line - then I also recommend that you try Victoria Secret's "Very Sexy" perfume. Velvet is very similar to Very Sexy - and definitely "in the same fragrance family". They both wear in much the same way. Velvet has more of a rose oud (a deeper rose quality to it) that has an alluring "VERY SEXY" type essence that draws you in for a hug - and will make you linger longer. ---------- Avon's Velvet Body Lotion and Shower Gel are the BEST that I've ever tried... No joke. I would normally NOT make such a claim, but I've been into fragrances since the late 1970's... and I've had the pleasure to wear a lot of fragrances and have represented a number of high end fragrances while doing fragrance modeling for department stores. When I say that Avon's Velvet is THE BEST Body Lotion and Shower Gel -- I'm serious! You've got to try this for yourself! It is heavenly! Love it!

After much thought, this was one of my few purchases of 2018, and the last one for the year. It was a blind buy based on my love for so many Avon fragrances, the great reviews, and the purple bottle (couldn't resist!). I got the set with the shower gel and lotion. First on those, they smell exactly like the fragrance. Sometimes that's not the case, so this was great. They are both very luxurious and are great layered. The perfume bottle is classy, elegant, and modern. It's heavy and surprising quality for the amazing price. Definitely at least as good as Victoria Secret scents which retail for at least twice the price. Now the scent. I keep thinking every sweet patchouli scent is just a copy of the rest with little variation. But Avon turned a new corner on this one. They certainly have a scent that could easily have been a Mugler scent or an equally edgy, groundbreaking scent. The rose and patchouli are definitely the stars, but this scent has something else. To my nose, it's a borderline gourmand. There's a strong, rich chocolate in it that is cozy and sexy and tastes like love. . . Or something like that. The patchouli combined with the raspberry is like raspberries smothered in gorgeous chocolate. The blend is flawless. I adore this scent and am thinking of buying it again for hubs' sister. Not associated with Avon.

Decadent fig and pomegranate preserves and rose jelly smeared on a bouquet of soft, almond-y, waxy heliotrope blooms. Velvet is definitely sweet, but oh so smooth and precisely balanced against the slight powdery dryness of the heliotrope. The rose has distinct rose-geranium touches. Geranium has a kind of candy-sweetness to it. I am really missing the saffron and actually smell no patchouli, despite the voted notes. That is no problem, because Velvet is already great on its own, and would probably be amazing layered with an oud-rose-saffron middle eastern cheapie for added texture. I think the plastic doll may come from the heliotrope-rose combo, though it's not plastic-y to me. Stunningly beautiful. Avon does occasionally put out amazing scents. Avon Far Away Exotic is the only other Avon that has really wowed me. Velvet is also fairly strong in the sillage department and has decent longevity. For the price, Velvet goes above and beyond expectations.

I have a love for saffron. I don't actually smell it. I don't actually smell the other notes. But together...this is now my favorite Avon. For the price and how much I love this, it's a must have. I haven't received my full bottle yet and I'm thinking it's back up worthy! I agree with it being a Fall and Winter scent. But then I think even a citrus smells better in cooler crisp air. As far as being an evening scent, probably is best for that. But myself, I see a girl similar to the model they've chosen, who is pretty enough to slip into an evening gown and be completely together, but instead, chooses that pretty pink velvet jacket with terribly shredded jeans and the cutest boots! The name of this scent, the model, that CUTE pink jacket, and smell, along WITH that evening gown, ALL portray this scent wonderfully. The holy old jeans are my own imagination! It's a 70's thang! :-)

I kept seeing this pop up on the best of 2018 lists, so I decided to go ahead and blind buy a bottle. I don't hate Avon scents, but I generally find them to be nothing special, so I didn't have high expectations. I am happy to report that I was totally wrong! Velvet is a stunner. It smells expensive and luxurious... you'd never guess it was from Avon. It opens with a blast of a fully opened rose, with fig and pomegranate playing important supporting roles to round out the scent. The rose develops beautifully as the patch shows up on the dry down. I don't get musk or saffron at all, but this rose/patch blend is gorgeous and long-lasting. Sillage is great, too - spray with caution! This would be a perfect holiday scent - it will be in heavy rotation for me throughout December. But I am enjoying it now in the fall, too!

This is a warm, rich, sweet fragrance. At first, there is a dryness to it that comes from the fig. Figs smell a bit dusty to my nose. With my chemistry, Avon Velvet shares some DNA with Tom Ford Plum Japonais... it’s the saffron. Even with the similarities with PJ, this fragrance smells unique to my nose. The sweet, rich, creaminess of the Bulgarian Rose is gorgeous. I don’t detect much patchouli. It dries down to a soft musk, then it fades quickly. Velvet could easily be mistaken for a Tom Ford, or Bond no. 9 fragrance, imho. I really enjoy it. I’m not crazy about the bottle but the cap is cool. I like the gold graphics but the choice of font could have been better. Maybe a nice script. I use the shower gel and lotion for a little more oomph, and you can’t beat the price!

This took some time to grow on me. The first time I wore it, I just thought it smelled like cheap, dated Avon perfume. It reminded me of a mature women wearing dated perfume......possibly smelled a bit like a funeral home. I've given this another chance and I haven't changed my opinion at all except that I seem to have fallen in love with rose lately. I still think this smells cheap and dated, but for some reason I just can't get enough of it. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to wear this out but I will enjoy it around the house and maybe one day I'll be brave enough to wear to the store because this is strong. It's not what I usually gravitate to so I feel a bit out of my element.

a soft fruity leather skin scent that hugs you like a glove; this is not a typical rose, patchouli saffron mix due to the missing woods; this is beautiful and interesting; this isn't "fruity" in the typical sense of the word like the modern fruity floral frags. The rose, saffron, raspberry and patch combine to register as a musky leather on my skin with some floral/fruit component. This is a lean-in fragrance where you have to get close. No projection.

When I think of this scent, the notes of coffee, wine, plum and patchouli come to mind. I want to wear this in fall at night and the weather is more on the warm side. Kind of like when you're craving an espresso drink when relaxing at home in the evening. The same type of feel. I have a travel size which is more than enough happy to have it!

I smell saffron, rose, and fig. A slight bit of pomegranate, no other notes. IMO, It smells expensive. Do NOT over-spray; 2 sprays maximum and it lasted me all day. 9/10 only because you have to be in a mood perticulary for this specific perfume, I cannot reach for it any time. P.S. the shower gel is divine!!

My Signature Bulgarian Rose, Sent. With Fig, Raspberry & Pomegranate, With a Base Of Patchouli & Musk, It Has a Lot Going On, It's a Sophisticated High End, Date Night Sent Not For The Office, Head Turner. Hard To Find But Can Be Found For About @20-30 Dollars, It Smells Expensive

One of my favorite rose perfumes!! The Bulgarian rose in this is perfection! Longevity and sillage are both moderate on me. Once I'm out l'll be sad since I don't think this is made anymore.

This is a beautiful, deep, sexy, warm, adult rose. Just gorgeous. Can’t get enough of it and will be buying a backup.

I really like this one, Avon did a great job with Velvet. This fragrance is perfect for fall.

This bottle is so beautifully done. This Fragrance is quite the projection beast! It can DEFINITELY fill a room with just a few sprays! I get loads of rose, powder, and heliotrope. I can honestly imagine, if velvet had a smell, it would smell exactly as this! As it dries down over hours, it gets sweeter and more fruity. You start to get the raspberry and musk. This is definitely a mature scent, but NOT vintage. Lasting power is 5 to 8 hours easy! It leaves a pretty big scent trail too. Do not wear this in closed spaces,or warm weather. It's just too heavy and thick. This scent is just so different and unique. I honestly don't own anything like it. An EDIT I sprayed this on my hand four hours ago. I did dishes, and washed my hands multiple times, and I can still smell this. Lasting power is crazy good.

This starts out gorgeous, and very true to its name. It smells like a wedding reception event venue with big burgundy velvet curtains and huge chandeliers. It smells of hot, red, figgy dessert sauces spiced with saffron, and centerpieces crafted from Bulgarian roses. Perhaps there's a waft of cigar smoke from the lounge area. After a half hour it loses its complexity--the drydown smells of spicy-woodsy body products marketed to men (I still really like it). Sometimes there's a wee bit of rose if I sniff multiple times. I had hoped it would retain that comforting, edible, woodsy, rosy effect it had in the beginning. Maybe I'll test it again to see if it works better in different weather because it was truly amazing in the beginning stage.

I’m still testing this fragrance, but as of right now it’s a strong like for me. It opens slightly dry and green, and I can smell the fig. Then a sweet berry note comes out which remains for a couple of hours. It’s warm and comforting and kind of reminds me of Lalique Amethyst, but that one is a bit too sharp for indoor wear. I’m extremely sensitive to fragrances and Velvet does not cause a negative reaction (I wear it on my wrists or lower body only). Not girly but not exactly sexy either, just a warm womanly hug. This is an easy reach for those that typically like the notes.

I just received this in the mail blindly. To my nose it smells like a spicy and deep dark rose. It is a familiar scent, and when I can think of what it reminds me of specifically, I will edit this post to include the name. For an avon fragrance, it really is special. Of course, you have to respray a lot to keep it going, but it is so inexpensive that it is no big deal. I am glad I bought it and would buy again. Just for reference, the perfumes that I love are Stella Rose Absolute Intense, Stelle original (pre 2003), Chloe Chloe, and Mancera Wild Rose.

Definitely one of Avon’s best. A creamy, rich, sweet winter scent. No sharp edges, Velvet is an appropriate name for this. I like it a lot, but don’t love it, because there is a slight “plastic doll” undercurrent. Longevity and sillage is moderate. I wear this to work and haven’t had anyone mention anything about it good or bad and they are a vocal group. I don’t think they can smell to be honest, and that’s with the body lotion and 3 sprays. So for me this is more of a decadent skin scent. If you like sweet creamy scents, this is a safe blind buy.

I have many Avon fragrances that I really like and love - but this isn't one of them. It's okay, just not for me. I'm not a lover of rose and patchouli and both are strong in this. I also get some of the fig and pomegranate in the opening. On me, there's no powdery sweet heliotrope or raspberry. I get moderate sillage and longevity with it and it is usually on sale on their website. I wouldn't rebuy.

I love chypres and this one is very nice! Sweet, dark, and woody with fig, rose, and patchouli. I also catch whiffs of soft, vanilla-ish heliotrope and a bit of leathery saffron. The name "Velvet" is appropriate for this smooth, luxurious fragrance. This is an outstanding release from Avon. Don't pass this bargain up!

Projects like crazy, not a fan of this in warm weather. Love it in winter, but now in August, one spray to my shirt collar lasted all day and overpowered a lighter vanilla perfume I had on. A bit cloying with the florals and musk. Velvet is an appropriate name! I'll save it for cooler months.

I bought this hoping it would smell like a former fragrance from Avon, Unplugged. I was pleasantly surprised, one could be a flanker for the other. I would agree with the fragrance notes listed on this site for both. A good blind buy for me. But I'm partial to Avon 💚

very rich , decadent scent. I really like this one. the fig is present along with rosy , floral type mixed in. This scent has a lot going on and very hard to describe. Its does not have typical avon formula. It also slightly reminds me of avon Imari elixir perfume.

Avon VELVET Is Mildly Fruity & Gently spiced But The Star here is The Bulgarian Rose, A Modern Somewhat Medium Bodied Smooth Rose, Nice For a Romantic Evening where you get dressed up for Dinner with a Glass Of Red Wine!

This grew on me.... rose undertone, but richer.... unusual....for me it is worth checking out the Avon scents.... you I ever know when a gem will pop up, and the price is right!

I will preface this review with 2 things: First, I am not an Avon rep and have no affiliation with Avon whatsoever. Second, I usually like fresh, fruity and/or sweet scents. This perfume took me on a roller coaster. At first spritz, I wrinkled my nose. It was sharp and figgy. Then, the leather started to come out. I thought- what in the world is going on here? After about 30 minutes, the fig, rose, and leather/musk started started to blend together and form an absolutely beautiful scent! It’s smooth, decadent, and unlike anything else I own. One hour later and I cannot stop sniffing my arm. It’s fabulous. Great job on this one, Avon! As mentioned before, no classic Avon undertone. You’d never know this was a cheap perfume.

i get a 'chewy' rose and fig in the opening. kinda alcoholic as opposed to 'boozy' as well. a little heliotrope peeks out. it ends up mostly rose, fig and patchouli. it's underwhelming, but i had vintage avon scents that are better, so i am not saying avon is inherently bad, but i don't find the few more modern scents i've tried all that impressive. this is certainly not terrible but it's watery and fades so quickly.

Got a sample of this. Newp. Too creamy/heavy for my nose. It's a scrubber.

Started out nice, with notes I love, but after a minute or 10 the dry-down was this really horrible artificially sweet smell that I eventually had to wash off.

This has been compared to Gucci Guilty Absolute for women--this is nothing like Gucci Guilty Absolute, so please don't buy it thinking you'll be getting a cheaper dupe--you won't. What this is though is a gorgeous sweet rose, fig and patchouli fragrance that is smooth and very niche-like. The only pomegranate is a little hint of tartness in the very beginning, the rose quickly overtakes that and blends with the fig for a sweet earthy warm experience. The musk is a soft undercurrent pinning the whole thing, and the patchouli definitely gives it that velvet texture that makes the name very appropriate. The bottle is heavy and classy, with a velvet collar---definitely a new niche direction for Avon. This is a sweeter, lighter cousin to Midnight Poison with the rose and patchouli dancing so nicely together. It's got decent sillage but not a super heavy hitter with only 2 sprays--more sprays would definitely make it stronger. Longevity is about 5-6 hours. Very inexpensive and well worth the money. Perfect for Fall/Winter--although I could see this blooming in the spring and cooler summer days as well.

Looking at the notes you wouldn't think this was unique; you would probably think it was just another rose patchouli. But it's original. As others have mentioned it is a full bodied rose; the fig and patchouli give it an earthy richness. There's a smooth buttery feel to Velvet, but it's not gourmand in the least, simply luxurious. You know how exquisite desserts can surprise you by being less sweet than you expected and the better for it? Velvet does that. Velvet is strong for daytime. The sillage is strong enough that it made me self-conscious the first few times I wore it around other people. Still, better an overperformer than a wimpy fader - I can just do a walk-through and spray less next time. Did I mention it is a beautiful rose? Not an obvious green rose soliflore, but instead a fragrance with rose dominance balanced by complementary notes. I love Avon, but did not expect anything of this quality from them. Usually they are cheap and charming. Velvet is a well constructed scent that lasts all day and projects. Such a surprise! PS: No, I don't sell Avon or anything.

This is NOT MILD. Just had to put that out there... I was really excited to see fig in this frag. I’ve had this for about a week. Here are some important highlights if you’re thinking about buying this. as another person mentioned, rose and patchouli dominate here and the fig adds a kind of undercurrent Of zest or freshness. 1. While this has fig as another person mentioned this is a strong rose patchouli scent. 2. This is a serious beast mode perfume. Sillage is enormous. I would say this smells nothing like Fracas but the power in this rivals the sillage power of Fracas. It’s strong stuff. 3. The mood of this fragrance is really holiday party evening to me. I wear Coco Chanel during the day but I don’t think I would wear this during the day. 4. Not good for people who are sensitive to smells - this could be a headache inducer. So: mostly rose, not fig, super beast mode powerful, best for a formal evening event. Do I personally like it? Not sure yet. I like to wear my fragrance everywhere so I would have liked it more if it were more suited to day wear.

I smell inky incensey sweet roses and patchouli. I'm sniffing my arm and shirt like the fragrance weirdo I am trying to catch a change but it remains the same to me from application to drydown. It doesn't remind me of anything else I've smelled before and I appreciate that the smell of roses isn't dated. This is very nice. The smell makes me feel like I should be wearing velvety burgundy lipstick (I only wear chapstick and EOS), while drinking dark viscous wine, after swirling it in a glass (I'm a straight from the bottle drinker myself), in a dimly lit room filled with roses and those little incense burners, and I must be draped languidly in a big red armchair dressed in red velvet? Ha ha! I must have it! I won't ever do those things the scent conjures images of but this is what the smell Velvet evokes. This is a gorgeous scent and I think that the bottle could have been purple and been even more gorgeous.. This sits close to the skin about an hour after application but lasts for a good eight to ten hours.

(Not an Avon rep.) Velvet is an amazing fragrance. It’s complex and offers a journey across the olfactory experience. It starts off sharp. But you’d be wrong if you dismissed this gem without allowing the mid and base notes to bloom. Immediately upon application I get sharp alcohol, but as it evaporates, there’s a woody-“floriental” hook which piqued my curiosity. Is there more? Oh, yes! As it settles, I’m left with a sweet gourmand of vanilla marshmallow stirred with a sexy musky, ever-so-slight floral base. Don’t wrinkle your nose at this - my mind goes to passion and heat! Not a scent if you’re looking for simple and safe. IMO not for the office or church because its complex scent layers are guaranteed to overwhelm and some may not appreciate its sillage and longevity. This should be reserved for special occasions when you want to hint at all the fun possibilities the evening... and night... can bring. (My Brain took me immediately to 1980’s Christian Dior’s original Poison.)

IMO...Avon is starting a "different" direction with this one...???...Gone is that "Avon-ade" type vibe...Great! I get at first..fruity pom/fig ...then alcohol...then the rose/patch moves in...and I feel the warm spicy vibe too. I find this one evolves on skin,so give it a chance to develop. The first time I wore this...it went "powerhouse" on me...today...it is back to "moderate". I can only guess that temperatures effect this scent in some way. I have a decent "like" for this scent so far,and I hope Avon keeps expanding into this territory of upper-end type scents. EDIT: Forgot to mention....This also reminds me of the new Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Femme. Edit: I said this "reminds" me of Gucci Guilty Absolute...ON MY SKIN. I did not say it is or trys to be a "dupe" or "clone" of the Gucci. In "vibe" only. And ...I happen to like Velvet MORE than the Gucci !!! ;-)

Opening reminds me of a dark red rose. There is something dry here which I'm guessing is the fig (dried figs mixed with fig cookie filling). There is also a strange element in this as if someone managed to bottle the scent of a plush velvet sofa... I'm dead serious. Avon definitely nailed the name and advertising on this one. That being said, I respect this scent...but it is not for me. I agree with other reviews that this: 1. May cause headaches or trigger allergies (my issue) 2. Somehow borders on gourmand (even though it's not?) and may make you want to eat a rose vanilla creme brulee 3. May make you want to put on a velvet dress and go to a night time holiday party 4. May make you want to sip a glass of pinot noir while lounging on a red velvet couch while wearing burgendy lipstick 5. May have a plastic doll undercurrent (or bottled velvet sofa?!)

This is a lovely, fruity, rich, true rose. I don’t get the depth and complexity that others have described - some patchouli and yes I think some of the fruitiness is added by and enhanced by the fig. Maybe it’s because I was given a sample of Hermes Rouge the week before I bought this, but Velvet disappointed me a tad. It has medium longevity and medium sillage on me. I wish it had a bit more depth and character, something to make it a little darker and bolder. As it is, it’s a lovely true rose fragrance (more fruity than PWTR) and still worth the price. Not my favorite Avon (and I have several) but a good fragrance. I’m curious if the lotion would add depth but probably won’t make that splurge.

I would say no it is not at all like that “Avon” base smell. It’s a powerhouse and it’s patchouli with a big blast of rose. I can’t think of another fragrance that it reminds me of for reference. I literally only needed one spray. And I need to go to perfume sprayers anonymous because I usually spray all over and irritate the people around me... I could NOT do my typical over spray with this. One spray lasted into the next day.

For a "cheapie" this is pretty darn good! It seems like Avon stepped up it's game within the past 10 or 15 years to compete with Marshalls & T.J. Maxx type "$24.99ers". Velvet is nothing ground-breaking but for the low cost-- this is going to be someone's "every day / dumb grab". It's dark, rosey, burgundy, red wine, rich with a tiny hint of creamy candy. This checks a lot of boxes. Blind buy safe? YES.

I absolutely don't know what anyone is talking about, dark, rosy, patchouli? All I smell is cheap shampoo smell. I have never been so disappointed. I wouldn't even say this is a jammy rose, it smells similar to Lalique amethyst in the way that it smells like lotion or shampoo, maybe that is the creamy people are talking about. I'm tempted to throw it in the trash but maybe a family member might like it.

I'm not a fan of most modern Avon scents. I loved the old Persian Wood and Cotillion, and Imari is really good for an Avon scent. Nevertheless, they got to me. The ads for Velvet were really enticing and I ordered a bottle. It really IS luscious, warm, rosy, spicy. Interesting. Fairly long lasting for Avon. It isn't expensive, so you can afford to give it a try and reapply if needed.

Zero Avon DNA (which sadly has such a negative connotation). Beautiful deep rose with a hint of stemmy sweetness. I don't perceive any patchouli in this one (too bad, since patch is one of my favorite notes). If this were niche, people would lose their minds. I bought this when it was released in 2018 and recently revisited. It's a standout and definitely back up worthy.

A perfume that smells richer than it is. Quite long lasting and beautiful. I am very impressed with this Avon scent. I can definitely see the similarities to Midnight Poison, especially in the top notes. Dry down smells faintly of Samsara.

Velvet, This is a nice lasting fragrance. I like the Burgundy and Gold bottle as well. Perfect for the Fall and Winter seasons. Nice price too. I think this will be a popular Avon scent. I like it.

As an Avon Rep, I was surprise that I couldn't purchase Velvet perfume. In comparing notes, I came up with two alternative recommendations, Avon Prima or Imari, bit.ly/39TdjL5

I must say this is a beautiful fragrance. I've had many compliments and must say to Avon well done. This smells like something that you would purchase from a high end store.

This is Absolutely Gorgeous!!! A must have in your collection, trust me My female cousin sprayed this, I almost stole it to use as a guy! Damn!

This is a boozy, warm, sweet fragrance. Very much a fruitchouli that is gorgeous. It’s great for winter months. Strong. Comforting.
