Wild Country

This is another where I have a few bottles (a boot, and a spritzer bottle) from my late Pa. I do not wear these so reviews are from the bottles + memories from Pa. I like this a lot. I don't get thaaat much lavender but you definitely feel the coriander. Maybe because it's old in the bottle, but I don't remember getting any lavender punch when hugging or sitting by him on the arm of the chair while we fell asleep watching tv, haha. (I'm pretty sensitive to lavender smells, but also I could really just misremember.) I think the notes are otherwise pretty spot on, and the lavender just must be weak or weak to me. I am also sitting and comparing this a bit to Avon Leather, which he also wore. That one is zestier. They're really, reeeaaally similar in a lot of ways but Wild Country is...more layered? They're both kind of punchy. They both mellow as the day goes (I remember this because when he came in from the field he always showered, so it would be fresh when he came to sit, and if I was around later in the day some of the zesty punchy notes would be gone). Like going from being in the sun to being in a night bathrobe kind of smell. Wild country I think keeps the zip longer but there's more citrus in the Leather, probably. The Wild Country also has a bit more powdery quality?

Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 108 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased July 2019 This is what the current formulation of Canoe should have been! It's better than Canoe, almost can't believe it. Finally found a replacement for my Canoe if it goes out of production or if the next reform of that is worse than Wild Country. I had a plastic aftershave of this but later on I found this replacement as a glass bottled EDC spray. It's how it should have been all along. Made in Mexico - the fluid is a rose brown and overall it looks very recent. Fantastic scent for a current formulation. No this isn't unisex. This is denim or leather jacket sunny day kind of fun. Avon fans need this and Black Suede (if you don't have Royal Copenhagen) but honestly they look nice together if you're a casual collector or something. Slightly spicy vanilla, not too complex. About as quintessential as Pinaud Clubman I'd say. This is brighter, so choose your adventure on the particular day and mood when they line up decently - you'll easily enjoy it and be relaxed the entire day. Confidence.

Nostalgic. Soothing. Classic Fougere. Consider Wild Country in the Mount Rushmore of aftershave colognes with the likes of Old Spice and Brut. From the age of about eight I’ve always had a bottle. My first ever cologne. With Grandmothers and Aunts distributing Avon, I regularly received a bottle for Christmas growing up. From a younger age I found the different designer collector bottles to be so fun (the lantern being my favorite). Through Jr High School having a girl crush write in my yearbook “how good I smell all the time” as I wore it regularly. Up until today, loving how it feels on my skin after a close shave, and often wearing this to church on Sundays. Wild Country will always be a part of me. Even with better fragrance options out there, I still reach for this from time to time to feel that burning nostalgia. On top of that, it's still a great smelling fougere. Rating: 10/10

For the entire five years of my secondary (high school) tenure back in the 1990s I smelled of Wild Country or Black Suede. I had no idea as a young adolescent female that they were male scents! My sister and I were given a pick of the two and the matching deodorants at the start of the terms. I remember this smelling sorta sweet and powdery and clean. I never saw a box until my early twenties and found out they were for men. I had a good laugh then, but I shouldn't have been surprised because my mom wore mostly male perfume. She said you got more for your money and they lasted longer. I think I'm going to have to order a bottle for old times sake.

This is truly a classic smell. Some may refer to it as a "mature" fragrance. This is the sort of fragrance Steampunk or Rockabilly gentlemen might apply for putting more of an emphasis on an homage to days gone by. Wild Country is a great cologne for men, except me, it's weird, one of those situations where I like the scent just not on me. A headache inducer on me so I passed it on to my father, the whole gift set which was a EDT, body wash and aftershave. For the price I can't see why one would not give it a try, whether through ebay or an Avon rep. you have a good number available out there.

I love Wild Country. It's a classic men's cologne. I'm female, but I love to wear it even though it's for men. My stepfather always wore it so I guess I associate it with him. I just spray on a light amount, and I think I smell great. It's kind of like borrowing your boyfriend's jacket. It just makes you seem more feminine in contrast. I wish more men wore this today or other classics like Old Spice or Brut. These older colognes seem to meld with the wearer better than the new stuff. You can't beat the price either. Definitely worth checking out.

My high school boyfriend wore this exclusively. I just love it. Found a bottle recently and I've been wearing it. Smells like Love's Baby Soft for Men (if such a thing existed.) Not a formal scent, reserve this for everyday casual or cozy bedtime wear. I tried it layered over Coriandre. It's a nice combination. Updating to add: I recently came across a can of Axe Musk (is it the same as the 1983 version?) and they are SO SIMILAR, with the Axe being a little stronger, a little rougher around the edges, yet it has some of the same unisex qualities.

Still the best barber shop scent out there. Lavender baby powder citrus and vanilla. You get the powder from canoe And the citrus/lavender feel from pinaud clubman. This is the go to when you have a fresh haircut. Your cologne is going to compliment your appearance with that fresh haircut. Almost 3years later and back to comment again on one of my favorites. Since then I've brought atleast 3 or 4 bottles. It's become a staple. (After haircut or after shower) If you use pinaud clubman after you shave buy Avon wild country.

Truly a classic. IMO Wild Country might be one of the best embodiments of a barbershop fragrance out there. When I smell it I am instantly reminded of many other classics such as Brut, Canoe, Old Spice, Clubman Original, Clubman Musk, Stetson and a couple others. After a few sprays it's hard not to be transported back to the 70's and a Saturday trip to a barbershop full of old guys smoking, talking trash, sports, politics or the good old days. A must for anyone who enjoys a great barbershop fragrance.

Wild Country has the same DNA of Sweet Honesty (female), it smells sweet, powdery & musky... love wearing this at bedtime during love-making (any men should try) ;p since wearing this during hot sunny day can be cloying so it's good that this only last for 1-2hrs (and the musk should blend in with our own body chemistry by then) and projects quite good. Prefer to wear at night time. **actually human nose cannot detect musk smell, so I must say this is a good musk fragrance ;)

when i got this back in 2003..it was actually a gift from my sister..i was amazed by this scent..it smells soft and soothing..at the same time i smell baby powder in this. the musk and the vanilla soften them up..i didnt know this was made from avon till 2007 when i got the catalog from them i saw this and i have to buy my second bottle which was last year..i really like this scent..this one of my favorite scents from avon..and the powder and deodorant are great too...

Lavender baby powder lemon citrus shaving cream vanilla . It's just dope one of the best smells, Longevity is like 2hrs hours sad af 😡. Get a fresh haircut or shave your beard then splash some pinaud clubman on your neck and wrist then add Avon wild country on top of your clothes. It's one of those u gotta spray like 4 maybe 5 Times. This scent don't last bruh 😂. Still like it 9/10

I use this as a layer to fix any perfume that's not quite grounded enough or when my skin turns a perfume sour this is my fixer of all things. Honestly, by itself it's a tad bit plain yet comforting. Only the lavinder stands out because it is blended wonderfully. I do think it's masculine but I as a woman will wear it happily. Avon did well with this. :) 9/10

I call this one a guilty pleasure. I'm female and I love wearing it. It's a classic men's fragrance with noticeable florals. It's sexy because it's like a man and a woman's fragrances mingled together. I just love it.

Today I went to Sephora and tried a bunch of fragrances. Unimpressed with anything, I came home and put on Wild Country as God intended.

I love this cologne, is not sweet neither citric. is just right for a every day use, make me feel fresh and it lost long. love you....

Great for the price, and great in general. Very powdery, but not in a bad way! Good for layering. One of my favorites.

This cologne is 2 years older than I am! I used to think it was just nasty. Either the formula was modified, or my tastes have changed (most likely); because, now I do enjoy it very much...not an everyday scent for me, but a classic spicy powdery fougere that radiates manliness. An herby warm clean scent greets the nose immediately, and there is not a whole lot of complex development here; but as it dries, it has very powdery masculine florals and dry woody-spicy air. The ultimate dry down on the skin is smooth and warmly oriental, with sweet mossy muskiness. I recall freshly powdered and freshly shaved guys in old Andy's barbershop, after school while waiting for a feathered haircut(aaah, the 80s). All in all, quite the classic (some say dated...)manscent. This may smell like your grandfather, or your dad...but there are some times when the reassuring scent of clean masculine strength and gentle spiciness bring instant comfort and security. This is a scent you (or at least I had to) grow into. And for what Avon charges-you can't beat the value. Sillage: great Longevity: very good Overall: 3.5/5 I always thought this was a rip-off of Ralph Lauren's CHAPS (original), but anymore I find it very different...more smooth and powdery, less citric and sharp. This reminds me of a real man, one who chops his own wood, hunts his own meat and knows the land he lives on like the back of his hand...simple, fresh, warm and smooth-it does not get much sexier than that!

As others have suggested, Wild Country starts off virtually identical to Pinaud Clubman. And there’s nothing wrong with that as far as I’m concerned, because I wear Clubman after every shave. That said, it is not purely linear, transitioning to a far more floral and powdery scent. I can see the powder resemblance to Canoe and Brut that others have pointed out, but to me the florals are much more predominant in Wild Country. It feels very high in the nose if that makes any sense—perhaps that’s the carnations and geranium that have been identified. Projection won’t knock anyone’s socks off, and I don’t think it’ll give you more than a couple hours. But it’s a fun fragrance with some history and a pleasing bottle. A nice pickup for less than $20.

I get snowy aldehydes, then subtle aromatics, iris powder, and soft florals. The base develops to a talcum powder musk with sweet vanilla and a bit of amber & tonka. For a scent called "Wild Country", it is pleasantly soothing and tranquil. Perhaps this is the point? The two nominally famous scents of the American west, Stetson and Wild Country; both of them have turned out to be based around florals and sweet musks with a fougere base. What a curious and beautiful twist. I haven't sampled Dana Canoe or Pinaud Clubman. To my nose this musky number is very similar to Baby Soft & Blue Waltz. This style of aromatic fougere goes back at least a century, and these classic scents used to be unisex. I suppose they still are.

Man, this stuff really takes me back easier days. When I was a kid, my dad had the deodorant and this smells just like that. His combo was this but the deodorant version and Leau Dissey Pour Homme as his perfume and it definitely worked cause Leau Dissey is bright and fresh while this adds a sweetness to the mix. Feel so calm and relaxed when I smell this. I get a powdery, fougere with some amber and benzoin. Doesn't have the greatest longevity but it gets the job done and its projection is pretty good. Overall, it is an awesome scent especially for the price. Worth the try if you're looking for a chill scent.

Reformulations might have affected it a lot, it's not as it used to be, so only nostalgia can save it. Hope it improves with time, as it still can mature after several sprays from my uses. Powdery barbershop, the anise/coriander have a central part also. Improved with time. A couple of sprays on your chest and armpits, inside the clothes, to the let it progress inside that environment and stick to your clothes... The opening is not what I love the most, but the drydown that it leaves on the shirt is worth the wait.

Well... I think I'm stocked for life. I recently bought a vintage Avon chess set and I think about half of the pieces- which are bottles in disguise- are filled with this stuff! Your move- excuse me while I uncap my pawn and refresh my scent. It's not a bad fragrance. Reminds me a bit of Jovan Musk, but a tad more powdery. Touch of jasmine in the heart as well. Warm, fruity, woody, musky, clean. Ish. Yes, you could still be a little naughty with this one.

Picture this... You just get home from work. It’s cold and it’s raining. You throw on the heater to 73 degrees and jump in the shower. You’re nice & clean and grab a freshly washed t-shirt and your sheep skin Minnetonka slippers before you decide to sit on your favorite chair and watch your favorite tv show. Can you picture it? Well, it’s not complete without a few sprays of Avon Wild Country. Only then will it be a perfect night. 🌙

I can sum up this cologne in 4 words “Welcome to the barbershop” What else do you need to know? Pure powder/talc. It’s nostalgic. It’s manly. It’s not for everyone I like to wear barbershop frags (this, old spice, Pierre Cardin, Avon mesmerize, Azzaro Homme) when I’m going out to a bar. Everyone else is wearing aquatics and you’ll be the only one with this old school stuff on I promise lol. Just don’t overdo it with the sprays

If you like Pinaud Clubman, you will probably enjoy this fragrance. It's very clean and powdery, just like a fresh haircut. Definitely a barber shop fragrance. It's very inexpensive, and if you are into the Barber Shop genre, I suggest you give it a shot. This is not really a scent that I would really wear out, but love it for fresh out of the shower and heading into bed. Smells great and very calming.

I had this fragrance since like 2014 and I never really put it on except here and there then 2020 I was gonna go through a divorce and started going out more and found this and started wearing it a lot then I got addicted to fragrances and now I've own(ed) over 100 fragrances now. It truly got me into my fragrance journey.

This was the very first fragrance I ever owned, spanning my entire childhood and teenage years. It was my true signature scent back then, and there are so many memories held within that bottle. My grandmother bought me several bottles of it as I was growing up, making it a permanent part of my youth.

This was my father's signature scent. I like it, it's a classic abd it smells great. The longevity and sillage are incredible. Not something I would wear daily, but if I'm in an old school mood I would wear it without hesitation. The more I remember this scent, the more I want to order a bottle.

Lemonzest. YES that is so true.. Blue Jeans...I remember that. Yes it was alot like this Wild Country. I agree with the need of a light touch. Reviewing the original formulation. Powdery, like the old Blue Waltz if I recall.

I appreciate the spicy presence and the sweet undertone. Makes it a fragrance that is not boring. I don't mind wearing this, but not too often, because I'm not a spice person. Nice for casual wear in fall season.

I knew a guy who put this in his car as an air freshener. he had a can with a sponge in it and filled it each day and it always smelled so awesome!!!My husband likes it and I will buy it for him again and again.

One of those that you easily dismiss as a serious fragrance. Yet every time I wear this I get compliments. I love it for the memories I get every time I sniff this.

Its a clean masculine smell, not too sweet. I use the powder which is great for Florida and the fragrance lasts all day. I have not tried the spray.

Warm, cozy, and sweet. Wore this back in the mid 90's. It's sort of like a light but rich leathery candy smell to me..

A classic perfume for men, long lasting on me. Thick and heavy and I love it. Now it's one of my favorite. So sexy !!

Too powdery for me. A bit loud in the opening. It's ok. I prefer Stetson Original, which has a powder note but I find it a more balanced/refined fragrance.

Bought this at the thrift store! No idea why. But I'm going to give my honest to God review. Okay so: If you are female and have a strictly female palate, which I do not have but still as a warning. STAY AWAY! It's not that manly but I know some sensitive people out there so just be cautious. How did I feel about it: Now the bottle I got was old. It was brown and differently colored than what is presented here. Now with age perfume and cologne changes! So I'm not judging it because the juice is a little old. I didn't like it very much really. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU WON'T! You might like it! What its like: powdery, smells like an old persons bathroom, not a bad thing per say but not my style of powdery I go for. I like a more lady like powdery like a granny than a grandpa. It wasn't the worst old man scent I've smelt, that goes to goldbond. But it just isn't something I would wear. Under the tones of power it has this slightly green dirty smell? I mean it wouldn't be as bad if it didn't eat at the powder like water with cardboard. Final ranking: For me, its a 2/5 but for you it may be a 5/5! So take my review with a grain of salt!

Despite being perhaps the most widely known in the company's history, both my 1970s and recent Wild Country are the two that I reach for the least. They're not "bad" and I respect both the reputation and my own childhood nostalgia, but no version is very wearable for me. It's the suffocating powderiness what did it. I can't cut it. (Spicy also goes unworn since I have Shulton Old Spice)

I get why people would like this scent but personally it is not for me. It smells really sweet like baby powder and also like creme soda with a synthetic vanilla scent with lavender and musk notes

not horrible, but not impressed at all. smells like toxic masculinity, little too strong for my taste. apply with restraint.

I don't like to smell this on my boyfriend, too sweet. He stoped using it after my bad opinion.

Wild Country By Avon Cologne Spray After Shave Deodorant It's a simple feel-good fragrance for a clean scent to wear while it lasts in the morning/day time after you've had your shower. I rarely wear Avon frags but I'm not above wearing drugstore cheapies-but-goodies and this is absolutely the latter. While it's cheap, the cologne (enhanced by the aftershave) is good stuff. Wild Country is reminiscent of such 'classic barbershop' powdery vanilla and musk scents as Pinaud Clubman, Dana Canoe and Coty Stetson. Though it's own unique scent it has that similar citrus top/lavender (fougere) florals into musk and vanilla with some woods. Nothing mind blowing. Modest and charming. Opens with lavender in the style of soothing lavender hand soap with anise and bergamot orange to make it fresh and invigorating. The aftershave is similar to the top notes but the cologne gives it a more well rounded development. After the citruses subside, I detect spices and woodsy tones courtesy of coriander. The sandalwood and cedar wood are evident as the fragrance performs it's music. A floral heart of heliotrope (vanilla flower and geranium too) and carnation, green and mossy with an oak moss. The moss is not as heavy as I would have liked but it's not a green chypre for men. It's clearly modeled after those barbershop powder scents. It's fresh, clean and transparent. This is not a fragrance to go nuts about it and it's pretty generic but it does it's job. I love it for when I'm not in the mood to wear any 'power' cologne in particular. Smells good for the morning when you go about your business. Easily worn as an every day introductory cologne for young boys/teens. It has a mature quality (like Stetson) but can be worn by younger guys because it has a clean citrusy and powdery air without any of the usual stronger ingredients in men's colognes like animalic musks, leathers and or bigger green notes like patchouli. Wild Country does not smell of a 'wild' country nor of cowboys and Texas and big plains or farms and ranches. It's a powder based vanilla and musk, unassuming and decent. Good not great but highly recommended as an affordable every day scent for guys who don't especially care for cologne or fragrances.

Its interesting how so many of the modern "Aromatic Fougeres" don't seem to have an explicit "green" accord. After all, the Fougere prototype Fougere Royale supposedly attempted to replicate the imaginary smell of a green fern, and it had the coumarin note extracted from tonka bean to create the "dry hay or grass" accord. Just yesterday I was wearing the reimagined Fougere Royale - the 2010 Houbigant Fougere Royale. It's a very, very good, deep earthy green fragrance. It does smell like what I would imagine a ground zero quintessential Fougere to smell like. But this Wild Country smells a lot like classic Old Spice, which is classified as a Spicy Oriental. And the note listing for Wild Country seems to point to a classification of Spicy Oriental as well. Anise (like Old Spice), coriander, etc. Spice and herbal contributions along with florals in the mid, and amber and vanilla in the base (also like Old Spice). It does have lavender - maybe an indespensible Fougere note. Wild Country is certainly "barbershop-y" in my opinion. I don't think it is the closest fragrance to classic Old Spice out there. I think that distinction belongs to Paul Sebastian Fine Cologne, but Wild Country comes close. But these days almost anything is called a fougere.

My first impression of Wild Country was, shall we say, not pleasant? I'd encountered the body wash and found it so cheap and harshly soapy smelling that it never even occurred to me to test the actual fragrance itself. Fast forward about 5 years.... I finally got around to testing this unassuming budget winner. And yes, that's just what Wild Country is! A BARGAIN with a winning composition. :) Traditional barbershop in the best way, this nonetheless could easily be worn by a woman. Coriander, Musk, and POWDER predominate. Gentle sillage and a comforting presence say 'snuggle up with me'. Tonka bean lends a slightly sweet, vanillic vibe. In short, this is GOOD in a T-shirt and jeans ordinary-splendor sort of way. Wild Country is as tame as they come, but with that decidedly alluring 'like skin but better' feel. I have a soft spot in my heart for fragrances like this one! Recommended. PS - The aftershave lotion smells fabulous too. <3

Two words: Neutrogena Rainbath. Another reviewer mentioned that this smells like it and I had to see for myself, but they were spot-on. This is a deliciously warm woody-vanilla with a hint of herbs and amber. It is a very "freshly-showered skin" scent, perfect for cool to cold weather. I strongly recommend Wild Country as a fresh scent for those of you tired of the typical citrus-aquatic-linen freshies. I am female and I would definitely consider this a unisex, non-gendered scent that would smell great on just about everyone. I am a little biased because I think many of Avon's OG fragrances are lovely, wearable time-machines, like your most loved sweatshirt that you'll wear until it falls apart at the seams. NOTE: I am reviewing the current formulation, NOT the vintage. This one wears close to the skin with two sprays and lasts about six hours before fading completely.

Avon's Wild country is(in)famous for its many fascinatingly offbeat novelty bottles, ...but I sample here from an original bottle-shaped bottle. More precisely, it's something like a captain's ship decanter with an embossed bullshead logo on the side. The original Avon Wild Country from the 1960s to the 70s (or maybe 80s), smells remarkably similar to Coty Musk for Men from the same era. If done today, one of them would probably be pointlessly branded a dupe. Both smell primarily of honeyed amber and nitromusk. Wild Country may be a tad more powdery. It's a remarkably pleasurable and soothing scent profile, ...and of a kind that is simply not being made today. Highly recommended. I'll post this on both of the current Wild Country pages, because this original formula seems to differ considerably from the listed notes given for either.
