Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 003 ------------------------------------------------------- Another one from the old world. This and Voodoo flooded the corridors of my high school. Always loved them. Found them earlier this year in the bottle design featured above. The "new" versions in the smooth, smaller looking bottle are just rubbish. Africa in that bottle smells like sweat and even Voodoo is quite different. The bottle above is just fine, barely smells extremely reformulated compared to the rubbish forced out the doors today. I mean, I miss all the Axes and Lynxes. From Java to Accelerate, and Phoenix to Click (pretty sure that one was renamed Clix as it says so on this website, pretty dumb). If you had Rexona, you weren't that cool. My signature juice at the time was Anti-Hangover, wore it so much I've forgotten what I wore before that one and after I switched to something else to keep up with the changing seasons and fashions. Africa is the closest you can get to Joop (pronounced with a Y, as in Yawp) without opting for Jeer, which is an excellent deo version of Joop. Jeer is not identical, but it's closer to Joop than Africa.

To me, it smells like all Terminator movies combined. Think of tech noir depth, the endless route of escapes, an array of obscure sounds composed by Brad Fiedel, the HI-NRG eroticism blasting from the yellow foamy cushions of your walkman headphones and that ambivalence between sunrise and sunset that is disguised by the blue lights haunting you on every step you are about to take. It's gonna take you miles to future and light years back to past like big electric bolt. Encapsulating. Irresistible. Addictive.

Bought the roll-on after many years and was quite shocked. Africa has been brutally re- and deformulated, now reduced into a mandarin-orange-zest smell only. It's so different now that it should have been renamed... Not that it's bad smelling, but still a pale shadow of it's former self. I can only hope they bring the original back at some point. The deospray used to have edt-power back in the days, I guess not anymore.

Sure, Africa has great resemblance to, say Roma or Minotaur, but still has enough uniqueness to stand on its own. It is by no means a total clone of any other scent. Not at all like those dirt cheap copies of Fahrenheit and Le Mâle you can find everywhere.

so nostalgic reminds me of being a tomboy scoundrel. pretty heavily despised because of teenagers who treat it like a replacement for showering but i never found the scent bad, its actually pretty nice.

Was my high school signature bo basher. Still wear it today while owning a bunch of niche. If they made this DNA as a perfume, I'd be all over it. When this badboy drys down, its great.

I still love this fruity fresh scent so much, cheap or not. If only Africa was available as edt or edp, I would look no further for the perfect spring/summer perfume.

A timeless fragrance that reminds me of my youth. I keep a bottle for nostalgia sake. Lately, i've been spraying it on my pijama before bed.

Spicy warm sensual scent that lingers for hours ... I use Axe Africa in winter and Axe Marine in summer.

Still the best AXE bodyspray. Apollo being the 2nd and Black probably the 3rd

Reformulation is horrific, same with Dark Temptation and Gold.

To me, Axe Africa is like L B Roma without the pine note.

Africa is decent, and I immediately recognized this when applying. I'm not sure who wore it exactly, but probably an ex, or an old friend. It has an intense familiarity to me. I'm 35, but I feel 15 when I smell it. Axe was never anything to analyze in a serious way, but as an aging Millennial...I'm now thinking -Why the hell not review these?' There aren't that many distinct notes to my nose at all, aside from a vanillic citrus tone. Underneath it, it's a blue, woody melange of a boyish aroma that smells super blended, and super soapy. What I appreciate about this one is that it's less *piercing* than other Axe scents that I've smelled...that have a high-pitched blueness. This smells soft. I'm a woman and generally prefer more feminine things, but occasionally I love smelling clean and woody. Again, the operative word for this is "soft", and the vanillic base is nice. I believe in wearing what you like regardless of gender of course, but if I had to use generalities I'd say this is 75% classically masculine, but some women (like myself) might enjoy it if applied with a light hand. Still, this has that undeniable *Axe* DNA which always strongly reminds me of the 2000s. Take that impression how you will, but I like to bask in nostalgia 😊

This is a body aerosol spray and not a true EDT, EDP or aftershave. The scent doesn't develop on me similar to the dark temptation version, it sprays on and instantly becomes intensely spicy yet fresh at the same time. I also get bergamot and sandalwood in the background Projection/Sillage is around a few feet and no more. Longevity is around 3-6 hours but it does depend on your skin and how much you spray. Very popular in the UK, the Africa scent is better for wearing during the day, the dark temptation is best in the evening 2.6/5

A scent from my childhood. Bright and energetic, I still use it because of the nostalgia, but only when I go to the gym. I remember I was 12, during summer camp and wearing this perfum. Suddenly a 16 year old rose up and said "Someone is wearing AXE Africa!". I was suprised and thought of the TV ads where men where attacked by women for their axe sprays and wondered if it would happen to me now. It didn't. I wouldn't recomment it to someone as a signature scent, but for everyday-practical use is good.

When the summer comes I'm using Africa. I know it's a man deodorant, but it works perfectly on me in hot weather, owerhelms the sweat and bad smelling. I enjoy also because smells enough fresh but spicy at the same time, timeless, modern, not a typical man's cologne. Yes, I suspect where the resemble of LB Roma comes from, but I think Africa isn't as soft and sweet as Roma, fresher and more masculine, because of geranium and bergamot.

Wow this brings back my teenage years, last time I think I wore this was when I was 16, literally 20 years ago lol Now I wear Xerjoff Naxos, Dior Homme Intense and various Guerlain frags . I think my taste has had some development over the years. It gets a like for me for nostalgia.

my boyfriend wears this all the time and it’s so hot on him tbh reminds me of sweaty rugby boys but overall for €3-6 it’s really good defo recommend it for men who wanna smell cheap and trashy cuz women r very into that

This is the only LYNX/AXE that I would go out of my way to say I like. The it’s a genuinely nice smell.

I bought this a while ago because of my boyfriend, it's an inside reference of ours. Lol. Also I had to own an Axe bodyspray, cmon (In my country it's branded as Lynx, but I'll just call it Axe.) Anyways here's a serious review. I'm not biased by nostalgia/trauma because I really don't think anyone at my highschool or even back in middle school used Axe. Though that's not to say that the smell upon initial spray doesn't remind me heavily of the swim team changing room. Because it does. I used to do competitive swimming and it's very reminiscent of swimming, the poolside, actually the equipment rooms in general, ifktyk. Definetly swimming vibes of some sort because the drydown is just fresh and salty, with like, nothing else. Before the drydown, It smells to me... Like the smell of crawling out of the water and onto rocky part of a beach, with the seawater is coating and drying on your skin and the air off the sea is blowing in your face, Except the sea is chlorinated. Or chemically treated, or both. There's that edge of, I wanna say fishy-ness, but it's not. It just makes you think of the ocean. A distinctly chemical marine-y saltiness. Again something that comes off like chlorine, and also like what kelp might smell like, but again without any fishy-ness (I think it's the chemical geranium and mandarin?). I feel like I'm leaning over to look into a salty little tide pool, I can see and smell a red-orange ribbon of kelp waving in the current. Don't ask me why it doesn't smell anything like the advertised notes, I've heard the recent reformulations ruined a lotta Axes. So I guess I never got to experience Africa in its prime. But honestly I don't hate it, even though I'm not a fan of ocean scents. It's interesting, and Like it's fine. It smells like kinda what I imagined Axe body spray would smell like. Aso I really can't be disappointed because it was like five bucks and especially because I bought it for novelty anyways. Also I like the cap, the twist and push mechanism thingey is neat, I think it's just cool. It took me a second to get used to it though I nearly sprayed myself right in the face LOL

I bought it without smelling it, thinking it would have an exotic, tropical scent since it had Africa in its name. I couldn't smell anything that reminded me of Africa. I asked my African friends who play football in Turkey. They said we wouldn't use it in the hot weather of Africa.

I had this fragrance. It had a very sweet and fresh smell. You can smell the vanilla and sandalwood in it. Overall, it is a bit pricy, but for the amazing sweet and woody scent, it is ok to buy.

Changing rooms and teenage insecurity. Pungent as hell like all Lynx scents. Once traumatic, now almost endearing to return to.

I wore this in academy. I had plenty of girlfriends. Must have worked.

I had to know why this particular Axe scent is loved and liked by the community, so I bought it at my local supermarket - the deo spray, that is. It was not quite what I was expecting at all. Sweet, and a familiar sweetness. Oh, but what could be this familiar? It took me 2 weeks to figure it out. Off the top- you get a whiff of creme-soda. How could this not be popular with Unilever's target market when teen boys have their most visceral memory embedded in the product. Genius. Now, do I like it? At first spray, not particularly; but when taking off my shirt in the evening and sniffing it before throwing it into the laundry basket... oh my! It just works with my body's chemistry to produce a faint but appealing scent. It becomes a lot less sweet... Almost a little sour, somewhat animalic.

Traumatic memories. Plus I don't pick up on any bergamot

My boyfriend is a fan of Axe deodorants (or Lynx, how we're calling them where I live). While I like Dark Temptation, I got totally repulsed by this one. In fact, this and Axe Black are the only deodorants that I forbade my boyfriend to wear at home (absolutely no problems with him wearing them at work or football practice). Thankfully, he's a bigger fan of Dark Temptation anyways :)

I had this on one day at work recently because I couldn't decide on a frag to wear, so I basicly said f*#kit, it'll do (shower gel, deo & aftershave) My boss said 'Oh, what fragrance are you wearing today? it's nice' (I'm kinda known at work for being a frag head) I laughed! & said it's just Lynx Africa: the cheapest in my collection prety much. Kinda liked this from the begining, it does have that now 'Lynx/Axe smell', but it's not too shabby for a general cheap frag. My only real complaint about Lynx/Axe is: why the hell did you reduce the content? it was always awesome for high power on the deo spray, now it's just a couple of hours: meh! (and I remember the old days with Lynx/Axe, it was always WTF strong for a deo, nevermind adding shower gel/aftershave) okay, many many years ago when I was at school, the boys P.E changing room basicly smelled of a combo of 3-4 lynx/Axe deo sprays, but: it did the trick, why spoil it now?. Basicly, not a bad one for a bang it on to smell like you made at least a bit of effort: does it smell expensive? no...does it smell okay, yeah I'd say yes: worth it for the meh: I don't give a s#*t days to still smell okay.

I don't like 90% of the average "grocery store" after shaves that are available. And I never liked Axe's add campaign which clearly was focused on men in their late teens and early 20's. But some thing about Africa AS connects with me as a man in his 50's. I don't pick up any citrus notes at all. Maybe the vanilla, but it's not too sweet, and is well integrated with the other notes. Actually I have trouble distinguishing most individual notes in this frag. For me it's very linear. But for me its unique enough to stand out from the pack and not smell cheap, or cookie cutter. Definitely not the typical barber shop scents that you often find on the shelf. It does lean towards Fall and Winter use but would work in all but the hottest weather. For 10 bucks it's a no brainer to pick it up and smell good in the morning. No shame.

okay so funnt story i went through my collection with a friend once sprayed this ona paper and told them it was called dark rose by dior to try and trick them they enjoyed it the most out of all of my fragrances O.O So i mean i guess its good, but imo every single body spray at grocery stores is redundant. they are so diluted even with the initial blast u get it dies down so fast, you smell the same as before you sprayed it pretty much!. you end up going through these so fast, you may aswell buy a perfume!. also when you take it into account the amount of dilution, the synthetic ingredients,the quality of ingredients including the alcohol,the packaging, you can only imagine really how cheap these are to produce :/!.

As a long time fan of Axe Africa, just wanted to share an alternative I found most recently: Lidl Cien Men Desert Deospray. Is is good, long lasting and cheaper than Axe Africa. In Lithuania, EU Axe Products are not widely available, therefore it is nice to finally find an alternative. Also, Cien has Desert shower gel, which is very similar to Axe Africa. This blends very well with Le Male, Le Male Popeye, Boss Unlimited, Lacoste White. Overall both Cien Desert and original Axe Africa are still fantastic DEOs for the price. I wish a proper Edt was available...

Good Frag, Yes it is synthetic, yes it is bald and yes it is somewhat youthful. When I was around 19, I was using it a lot, before going to school, after gym and etc. It had a very good staying power as a deodorant *better than some edts. Its fresh, spicy and crisp. It is very linear and most of the time just slowly fades away. One of the best deodorants I had. I wish it had and EDT version, would buy instantly for the good times sake. PS. I was getting compliments from everyone all the time - classmates, teachers, my aunt, my mom even my buddies. AJ

Randomly got this as a car air freshener and it smells so much better than I remember? Smells both fresh and warm at the same time, makes me want to try and test the real thing. I think the connotation of it being predominantly worn by teenage boys gives it a youthful quality. I do not get the name of the spray at all, this does not invoke the continent Africa at all. Now if you want an axe/lynx spray that smell like shit, try the chocolate one. That one is truly gag-worthy from my memory.

To me it smells spicy and fresh, but with that typical "axe" smell. I do not know which note is responsible for the spiciness. Maybe Fragrantica did not list all notes? I do not like it very much. It smells cheap and Sillage and longevity are bad. It reminds me of Sumatra Rain, that i also do not like. Maybe if the Tonka beans were stronger, i could appreciate it more, but i do not get much sweetness from this fragrance.

This fragrance is fantastic, yes it reminds me of my teenage days. Boys used to drench themself in it. Because of the overspraying it got It's bad reputation. It is one of the rarest body sprays that can last for a good amount of time. I will definitely love to smell it on a man. I wish there were a perfume verson of it, I would have gifted it to my man out of nostalgia.

Africa and Inca - those were my ABSOLUTE favorites from the hey day of mid nineties. My first fragrance obession started here. Atlantis, Marine and Musk were the rest of the lineup at that time and I collected them all. Later they put out new scents but I didn’t like them as much as these iconic ones. I love Axes openings, cheap but fresh!

Unironically one of the best scents I've ever smelled. Mellow Tonka, Vanilla, and Basalm at the base, with a really minty Geranium in the heart. The geranium keeps everything fresh and keeps the scent from being syrupy. This is known as "Kilo" in the US, where it was discontinued. Would give anything for a nice EDT version.

This was absolutely massive in the UK in the mid 1990s. It's basically a clone of The wonderful Minotaure by Paloma Picasso. It smells pretty cheap but to be fair Axe or Lynx are priced accordingly and are basically body sprays for kids to wear after they have a shower following high school sports.

This is fantastic. I doused myself with the aftershave, treating it like an EDC. My first boyfriend, a clean freak like me, used to wear this. It conjures very good memories for me. It's very soft and sexy. Yes, I will unapologetically finish this bottle myself...

I remember using this in middle school, but I totally forgot the actual smell. Somebody reminded me about this one so I bought a clone EDP version of it by a local perfumer and it's beautiful. Way beyond what I was expecting.

I wonder who did vote up for cedrat boise to be similar with Axe Africa. Something's wrong with peoples' noses. Cedrat Boise is a fruity leather perfume and this is amber balsamic. It is completely different. Not even close!

Best of the beast...!!!! I love this stuff.....!!!!! It is the best axe ( with KILO ) deo there is....... It is a compliment reciever . Very good deodorant.........
