Dear John

Such a gorgeous little fragrance, I was initially very sceptical about its 'reputation' to trigger powerful emotions, but it does succeed in making me feel wonderfully warm and safe. It feels like I'm wearing a loved one's jacket or cardigan, something I can curl up in. Interestingly, I smell cigarette smoke within the first few minutes - I have no idea where that comes from! Yet it's there, and it sits with the coffee and clove to create a very calming, very secure, very masculine scent. It's the type of masculinity that doesn't need to shout about it or show off - safe, dependable and solid.

Usually I find unisex perfumes attractive. Do perfumes really have a gender? Well, maybe not, but there are still some perfumes that are very hard to imagine on a women if they are supposed to be worn by men. Dear John is such a fragrance. This is 100% male perfume at it ́s best. Of course, dear gender benders you can wear this as much as you like no matter what gender you have, but I consider it to be a true masculine perfume. And how is that? One thing I do enjoy when it comes to men (my husband in particular of course, but also at my father and even my oldest son) is that feeling of masculin care taking, the comfort, the secure feeling of being safe... This is the emotions that Dear John manage to stir up when my husband wears it. Masculine caring isn ́t that much, no questions asked, no running around with blankets and tea and ice cream... more like a silent shoulder to lean on. All this is captured in the most beautiful way in Dear John. It ́s uplifting and energetic thanks to the citrus, and spicy, warm and sensual thanks to the spices, there are also some almost powdery, soft notes in it that are so caressing and sothing. Please girls, stay away from this, but hurry to get a bottle of it tou your husband, father, brother or beloved son... When he wears it, all thats matter is that you ́re so glad to have that certain man in your life. Quiet, easy little masterpiece, don ́t miss it!

This doesn't smell like a spicy blend on me at all. It smells like lime juice with a light splash of cassia. Cassia is usually really spicy like cinnamon but this is tempered down by the zestyness of the lime. I can also get the clove a little bit. It's got a fresh feel to is and also a sweetness like the notes are slightly sugar coated. I can't believe there's coffee in here because it doesn't make an appearance, not even a little bit. Overall this is yet another weak blend by B Never, it's gone within the hour. The overall smell is a green, fresh & slightly sweet version of lime. Not impressed. :(

I completely agree with Rebella about this being a purely masculine fragrance! I couldn't stand the opening as it was too lemony & citrusy for me to enjoy. I even thought a few times that it smelled remarkably like Pinesol AND furniture polish. However, it did dry-down to a nice, comforting, powdery musk that I appreciated for the 2-3 hours it lasted.
