Amour Citron

Found this fragrance last year from MattyS54 on YouTube. I’ll testify that he’s the first reviewer I’ve seen speak on the scent and I loved his description of it, especially with the examples he gave of scents which fit this fragrance (Elysium, Milliseme Imperial, Bergamot 22 etc). He’s also the first (English) reviewer I heard talk about Mystery for Him and that to me is still one of my favorite fragrances so I trust his reviews of other scents. So I finally saved up for months and purchased it so here’s my review. To start, this fragrance is hands down my most expensive blind buy. I truly never like to blind buy but in this specific case the brand has no samples and even when I asked if they’d make them they just kept directing me to buy a full bottle. They did have soaps attributed to the scents you can buy but living in the U.S. currently just to buy one bar of soap + steep international shipping + tariffs I’d be spending about $140...on just a bar of soap lol. So I saved up the past year and finally bought a bottle. Now in terms of the scent to put it simply it smells like if Le Labo made a grapefruit version of bergamot 22 and named it Grapefruit 44 or something. Very simple and extremely pleasant scent profile. I don’t think anyone wouldn’t like this especially if you love citrus fragrances like myself. However I do feel though for the price of this scent profile it is a bit steep. At retail this runs almost $400 which to me is a bit high for a fragrance of this scent profile that to me while pleasant isn’t exactly unique or groundbreaking. I paid about $290 + tax which is roughly the same as a Louis Vuitton bottle (which I love their fragrances, so I wasn’t too mad at it. I will say it’s very naturalistic smelling and I don’t own something like it in my collection which is a plus, but it does feel very familiar. Maybe a bit too familiar for the price of admission. In all though I’m definitely enjoying the scent and MattyS54 comparisons on YouTube to the other scents are accurate so I’m still satisfied. But unless it goes on discount to maybe $200 or less I don’t think I’d buy it again. I do hope in the future Balchoud does release a sample set or kit we can buy because there’s a lot of others I’d want to try from the collection. But at the moment it’s either buy $140 bars of soap or buy each individual bottle for almost $400 Edit: The more I wear it compared to what’s out already the more I see the uniqueness of this. I’d definitely buy this again

When you've experienced the best of the best citrus/fresh scents perfumery has to offer, what more is left to smell? From Bourdon's revolutionary marvels to modern masterpieces like Aventus it's ground well covered with very little innovation in the genre. Well, there's this! In typical Herault fashion Amour Citron offers a mouth-watering juicy cocktail of citrus, fruits & floral notes wrapped up in an elegant amber-musky base. First things first this is nothing like Aventus - Amour Citron is a more explicitly natural, refined & unisex smelling composition. The key material is 'Grapefruit Heart' a new extraction developed by LMR which is leagues ahead of traditional grapefruit notes. This 'Grapefruit Heart' Amour Citron is built around manages to capture the intense bitterness of grapefruit without overdoing the sulfuric thing, whilst also possessing a sparkling sweetness off the top. And it lasts! Herault has amped up it's juicy and fruity qualities even further with a combination of Blackcurrant bud, Mirabelle plum and carefully chosen florals. The fruity mid-section which extends through the life of the fragrance is absolutely lip-smacking, tangy & addictive! It's unlike anything you've smelled in a citrus fragrance and undoubtedly the best take on the 'Grapefruit' theme conceived so far. So the real magic is how this grapefruit glow simply lasts, it doesn't fade and remains uplifting throughout the wear. There's a distinctly clean, soapy vibe conjured by the florals to juxtapose the sharp citrus and a slight watery/aquatic touch that makes it feel even more refreshing. There's something about this part of the fragrance that's really evocative of being on holiday or at the beach and it's beautiful! This is all carried by a finely judged amber-musky base - it's crisp, crystalline, with the musky trail adding further to the beachy vibe I get. If I had to place this in a category of elite fresh scents I would put it closer to the classic Creed Ambergris DNA than the Aventus/Elysium thing that followed. It's so crisp, refreshing and fruity, with no added sweetness, just delicious! Herault has taken the latest materials and given fans of this sort of fragrance something to smile about again! Bravo!

Fantastic release and comfortably the best of its style that I've tried on first impressions. My first thought after spraying my sample was "where have I smelled this before?", I quickly realised it’s just the smell of actual grapefruit I was thinking of! The grapefruit is so stark and fresh I was worried this would just be a brilliantly executed grapefruit with not much else going on on my skin, but once the supporting fruits, florals and musks start to emerge it totally won me over. Mirabelle plum isn't a note I'm familiar with but here it reminds me of osmanthus which is interesting, different but has that same floral/tropical thing going on which is fantastic. Then as great as the opening is the musky salty base combining with the fruits and florals is what makes it for me, and the fact that the fresh citrus aspects stick around way longer than I was expecting - I could swear I still got some of the grapefruit deep into the drydown so it’s an awesome job at keeping the idea of it throughout, even if in reality the grapefruit must have gone after that long.

I was very lucky to receive a sample of this from a geniune enthusiast who hunts down Herault's creations. I really hope that Balchaud fragrances will be more widely avalaible because Amour Citron is the first scent that got me excited in months and I want a full bottle! It's a real mood booster for me, brings back memories of carefree happiness. Amour Citron is both citrusy and sweet but it's a perfect harmony, citruses smell natural and the sweetness is fruity and subtle - nothing like all these diabetes inducing men targetet releases that seem to be so popular currently. This is more suitable for sunny days but versatile enough to be an all year round signature.

So my first impression is you get a rich grapefruit, Imo it has a soapy smell, it kind of reminds me of jo malone wood sage and sea salt, I consider this unisex if you're expecting Elysium or Millisime imperial masculinity I don't think that's there, I do see the comparison to le labo, but this is definitely slight higher quality, but it's le labo or jo malone style in the way it's unisex a woman can wear this easily I think. Do I regret the blind buy? no, because it's def something different. I never recommend blind buy especially here for 400 dollars also it's not masculine enough to know whether it's someone's style, I think they sell 2 ml samples, I would def recommend a sample to see if it's your style. Scent 7.9, it's unisex right down the middle, projection seems soft but not bad, and I'll update on the rest as I wear it more. Edit the performance is light but it lasts for a few hours, the scent is more discovered than loud, and in the dry down you get a musk which is the sinfonide.

There's so much i could say about this beut of a fragrance from the master perfumer behind it to The awsome smooth composition of it Amour citron opens with a stunning grapefruit heart molecule followed by this juicy mirabel note futuristic musks join the party that makes you and others around you melt its no synthetic monster but more of a sexy etheral 3 dimensional type scent Its more of a trailer with a nice bubble and that's exactly how it should be yes its unisex to the point that anyone smells great wearing it and its also my current favourite already working on a back up bottle 😆

Amor Citron - very crisp, cold start, citrucy as in lemon with just a touch of bergamot and maybe some not very pronounced white florals that build in depth. start lingers for a 10-15 minutes and then slowly warms up on the skin to a less unique blend of a bit candied lemons. No tea or anything else present as i detect. The base stage reminded me of the Ateliers treatment of their citruces. Start is very cool, drydown is not bad but not too exciting.
