Il est évident que ce parfum sort complètement du modèle standard et je peux vous en donner la preuve car étant jeune enfant il y a maintenant 33 années de cela j'avais peut-être 6 ans je me souviens avoir senti un parfum de mon père j'avais le flacon dans les mains et mon nez est resté dessus puis cela m'a marqué cette odeur envoûtante a créé quelque chose d'unique dans mon cerveau mais à ce moment là je ne savais pas que c'était du Balenciaga pour homme car j'étais enfant c'était en 1990 exactement puis les années sont passées et cette odeur est resté enregistrée dans ma mémoire Olfactive souvent j'y pensais mais je n'avais ni la marque du parfum ni de précisions mais au fil du temps et a force de faire fonctionner ma mémoire je me suis souvenue plus ou moins de la forme du flacon et je me suis juré qu'un jour je retrouverai ce parfum car cet effet a été pour pour moi très impressionnant c'était comme si cette odeur était dans mon cerveau gravée à jamais puis 33 années se sont écoulées et au début de l'année 2023 j'ai décidé de retrouver ce parfum j'ai dû acheter de nombreux modèles et essayé un tas de parfum différents mais toujours rien c'était pas la bonne odeur mais je n'ai pas perdu espoir j'ai persisté encore et encore jusqu'à un jours c'était il y a quelques mois j'ai reçu un échantillon de Balenciaga pour homme de 4ml que j'ai commandé, c'était une routine pour moi de commander des parfums mais en voyant le flacon je me suis dit c'est peut-être ça que j'ai cherché pendant 33 ans car le flacon avait l'air de ressembler à ce flacon de mon père et je me suis mis un peu de jus sur le poignet j'ai senti et là un choque total c'était lui j'ai immédiatement reconnu l'odeur et l'émotion m'a envahi une émotion indescriptible une sensation que je n'arrive pas à expliquer cela a été un énorme soulagement d'avoir trouvé, vraiment c'est mon histoire je remercie Gérard Anthony le parfumeur d'avoir fait ce travail incroyable avec le Balenciaga pour homme c'est pour moi le meilleur parfum du monde de tous les temps voilà mon histoire avec ce parfum, 33 années depuis mon enfance avec l'odeur en mémoire et c'est une preuve que la mémoire Olfactive est sans doute un sens extrêmement complexe

This is truly amazing - Gerard Anthony has crafted a masterpiece...one that very few know about. I don't know if words can accurately describe the sensation of wearing Balenciaga Pour Homme, but it feels totally natural (nothing synthetic at all) and is absolutely so original. I have never smelled anything like it - ever! The feeling in my mind I got when I first spayed this was close to what happened when I applied Original Vintage Gucci Pour Homme - the masterpiece from 1976. It is that intuition that slams your brain within a few seconds of regathering your olfactory awareness. You are engulfed in something so incredible, you pause...for a while. Time stops. You don't hear anything - you close your eyes (for anything visual should be images your mind is creating from what you are smelling). Revelatory! To try to put it into words - Balenciaga Pour Homme is like a fine porcelain cup filled to the brim, steaming with hot spiced apple cider, a cinnamon stick swirled into it and a caramel on the plate next to it. You are sitting on an expensive, smooth, hand-made leather sofa with a mixed bouquet of fresh cut flowers and greens beautifully arranged in an expensive vase on the table in front of you. From the other room, there is burning incense - but it doesn't overwhelm...it just adds a touch of ethereal beauty. No single note in this is overly-dominant...that is the eloquent harmony. The room has an expensive persian rug and hardwood floors - everything plays a part in the composition here. I was fully taken away by this to another place. My rating - 10/10 - for scent, originality and quality. Excellent sillage and longevity as well. A masterpiece that does not have a time or can it ever be dated. It happened to be created in 1990, but it is as relevant and cutting-edge today as it was then. Is Salvador Dali's work dated in any way? No, it will leave you in awe each and every time you spend time trying to comprehend it. This is art in a bottle and it should be considered as such. To be adorned, not worn.

Real-time first impressions: yeah, this is a win. It's what I wanted Arquiste's El to be. I am also finding a similarity to Iron Duke, but this is more refined. I don't find it all that similar to Kouros or Lapidus Pour Homme to be honest except that it is clearly of the same genre as those two. Actually as the minutes pass the honey is coming to the fore and I am starting to get the Lapidus resemblance. On the surface, the bouquet of herbs and aromatics (I'm not really getting the cinnamon) combined with the honeyed musk gives the impression of clean laundry, but not in a one-dimensional way like you might think from the clean laundry association. It's complex enough to make it feel vivid and embodied. I imagine digging my nose into the fresh laundry that mingles with the lived-in human smell of home; it's a breezy summer day in the sleepy old apartment building I grew up in, and sunlight is streaming through the windows of the dimly lit living room. Now I'm feeling that I'd prefer the vanilla to be turned down, as it is starting to turn quite sweet on my skin. Aw :( But settling further into the dry down, the sweetness has subordinated itself to become part of a beautiful patchouli incense accord. We're back! Wow, it really stirs something in me emotionally. It's nostalgic, it's intensely evocative, it's the kind of scent I'd want to spray myself with on a perfect spring morning before a content and peaceful day. I associate it with happiness, but it also makes me wistful about happiness. Few fragrances have such a penetrating psychological effect on me. I could almost weep! Jesus Christ, this is beautiful. I'm actually blown away and did not expect this.

Cristóbal Balenciaga was a legend and an enigma - respected by his peers, called "the master of us all" by Christian Dior, yet so reclusive the press questioned whether he even existed. Not even his most loyal clients had ever met him in person. Balenciaga’s style and perfectionist tendencies are apparent in the fragrances that bear his name, rich, complex compositions comprising myriad ingredients. Balenciaga’s masculine fragrances - Portos, Ho Hang, Le Club (aka Ho Hang Club), Balenciaga pour Homme, Cristóbal - are all classics. BPH is a class act - from the faux malachite adorning the flacon through to its complexity - a sensory pleasure for both wearer and entourage. Like its creator, Balenciaga pour Homme is stylish and elegant. There's a lot going on: BPH is a sensory mosaic - honey, cinnamon, tobacco, leather, patchouli, sandalwood, oakmoss and (literally) hundreds of other components. Warm, spicy, mossy, musky, with the sweetness of honey and vanilla and a backbone of patchouli and woods. There is an animalic aspect that's quite noticeable and must admit I'm certain there's civet in BPH - so I'm not sure if the notes listed above are complete. In the early stages there's also an "incensey" feel - not olibanum, not Japanese incense, but something reminiscent of traditional Indian cow-dung-on-a-stick incense, possibly the patchouli-sandalwood combination. BPH brings back memories of the 1990s (when I was in my 20s). Balenciaga Pour Homme is a class act of eternal style - and the great thing about style is that it transcends the fickle pedestrian vicissitudes of fashion. Style is eternal. Seductive, sexy and very classy, BPH is still wearable today.

According to Michael Edwards in "How the West Fell in Love with Oud" this is the first fragrance in the west that used Oud. Below is the note brake down that he provided for this fragrance and I feel it is much more accurate then the one provided above from what I smell in this fragrance. Top Notes: Bergamot, Laurel, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Galbanum, Coriander, Pepper, Thyme Middle Notes: Cedarwood, Oud, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Cypress Base Notes: Oakmoss, Cistus labdanum, Musk, Vanilla, Honey The opening of this fragrance is VERY early 90s/late 80s and in your face and I am really not a fan of it... It almost smells feminine at first and there is so much just thrown at you and you can't tell what in the hell is going on... BUT... And that is a big BUT... If you can last through the first 30 minutes to an hour you are in for a treat... Lots of high quality sandalwood, oakmoss, slightly dirty patchouli and an oud note that is reminiscent of the oud I smell in my vintage bottle of M7 from 2003... It is undoubtedly very masculine but still has a powdery ambery feeling from the labdanum and vanilla... This fragrance has long been discontinued and has many high quality ingredients in it that obviously are no longer permitted in commercial perfumery... It does have a bit of a 'dated' feel but that does not make it 'old manish' in the slight... If you can acquire a bottle of this at a reasonable price do yourself a favor and pick it up as it truly is a masterpiece... --- Edit: The notes on this site now reflect the list I provided minus the oud... Could we possibly get the oud listed in the notes as well???

Balenciaga Pour Homme is one of the best masculine fragrances I've ever smelled. It's a powerhouse and it's not offensive or urinous at all. From the beginning to the end, I get cinnamon, incense, aldehydes, a lot of patchouli, and some warm fruity boozy leather to balance it out. This is definitely one of the most unique fragrances I've smelled, as well. I can't exactly think of a fragrance that is similar per se, but the overall "feel" reminds me of Donna Karan's original Fuel for Men, along with hints of Kouros and, even a few Anise/Tea/Gourmand scents like Yohji Homme and Gucci Pour Homme II. There is no unpleasantness or cloying/overbearing nature to Balenciaga Pour Homme; it is just smooth all-around. Actually, the closest fragrance to Balenciaga Pour Homme is definitely Lapidus Pour Homme; it shares the same sweet lavender accord. The bottle is amazing too. Tall, stoic and utterly 1990 without being cheesy, bearing an amazing green-marble finish on the sprayer. Balenciaga Pour Homme projects extremely well, but it's not invasive. It lasts a long time, and it's so good. Besides Patou Pour Homme, this has become my favorite 80's/pre-aquatic 90's powerhouse so far in my fragrance journey. Anyway, I'm glad to have found a bottle of this thanks to a very generous Basenoter. Unless Balenciaga comes to their senses and gives Balenciaga Pour Homme a relaunch, then I suggest you get to it before you can't. Thumbs up, five stars, and my most sincere recommendations.

Launched a decade after Kouros and Antaeus, BPH (1990) was by all accounts an anachronism. Gérard Anthony, the nose behind Azzaro Pour Homme (1978) was called in to compose this sultry beast. (There’s something about the misfits of that late-80s-early-90s era of masculine perfumery that I love: they swam upriver while everyone else was coasting downstream. Le 3e Homme, Bel Ami, Zino, Insensé, BPH.) This stuff is redolent of the hypersexual, hairy chested, pill-popping, night-clubbing, sweat soaked, recklessly hedonistic, powerhouse genre... and yet it comes off much more refined and rounded than, say, an Antaeus or a Kouros. “Manly”, complex, and opulent, it seems to straddle genres (is it a fougère, a chypre, or an “oriental”? The answer is yes). Bergamot, thyme, cinnamon, coriander, galbanum, pepper, laurels up top. Depth is provided by a megadose of earthy, woody aromatics in the shape of patchouli, sandalwood, and cedar. All of this is subtended by real oakmoss, a heady amber, bourbon vanilla, a silky musk, and the most pleasant honey accord I’ve come across. It is unlisted, but BPH is reputed to have been the first Western perfume to use oud. It’s only a smidge, but it provides the animalic facet that the profile would’ve lacked for not using castoreum or civet. BPH is warm, bitter, bracing, sweet, and funky in equal measures, somehow giving both animal sultriness and quasi-gourmand pleasantness. The effect is narcotic. A beauty.

Just got a vintage bottle. Stunned at how beautiful and sophisticated this is. Amazed by its historicity but also its timelessness. The bottle is hideously dated, but who cares when the stuff inside is this beautiful. Boozy, but not sweet. Insanely suave without being lothario juice. I have been looking for something this good for decades. I remember how captivated I was as a youth by the big, bold scents of Lapidus, YSL, Smalto, Jean-Marc Sinan, Bogart, etc. Most of those are either gone or reformulated into mere shadows of their former selves. If they are still around, my more educated adult nose can't take the brutishness of them like my young nose could. Balenciaga Pour Homme has allowed me to re-experience this olfactory epoch in a way I no longer thought possible. It is so beautiful to my snobby, contemporary, niche nose, yet it is firmly rooted in its era. I could see Roja Dove trying to do this one today, but probably overdoing it. And I could also see Byredo trying do this in an ironic, hipster way, but probably underdoing it. I think Alessandro Gualtieri could do something like this. I mention this to illustrate how particular and historically situated (and difficult) the vocabulary of Balenciaga Pour Homme is. It's a spectacular olfactory chronotope (to borrow a term from Bakhtin). I love the rich, heady, intoxicating mixture of incense and patchouli set against hints of cinnamon and exquisitely tanned leather.

I consider myself rich with intangible treasure because I still have half the large bottle of this incomparable masterpiece that I purchased the very week it first became available on the US west coast ...along with 2 of the deodorants ( which are still heavenly powerful as is the cologne ).. I still have it because this dizzying,almost overpowering scent was one that I just could not find many appropriate opportunities to wear.. most of my small trove I will wear as mood strikes me and damn the torpedoes..but not this plutonium in a very attractive bottle.. it just must be kept for dinner parties on Mt.Olympus and having sex out in a thunderstorm ..recently I gave in to panic buying and bought some minis ( which certainly look just like the ones I used to get in the original gift sets)and a small bottle online.. I admit to being afraid of opening Pandora's box and finding it full of flimflammery .. but even if the newbies turn out to be reasonable facsimiles I'll wear it..because that bottle from the last decade of the 20th century must be preserved until my final shuffle off the mortal coil..and i mean that literally..I'm saving enough to be liberally sprinkled when they slide me in the oven..I want no mourners as I burn one last time..just people I love saying " DAMN she smells good !"

This is easily the loudest perfume in my collection. Partly perhaps because I’m typically drawn to the restraint and subtlety of classic, powdery florals that hum along in the background without drawing too much attention. This is not that. Its bombastic nature aside, it’s really great example of a classically aromatic, old school men’s perfume. Fresh and spicy opening that leans a little herbal, but with a big glug of funk (I’m somewhat reliably told from oud) that’s just positively filthy. It doesn’t settle, instead it gradually unfolds to reveal a leathery core absolutely smacking with oakmoss so thick you can taste it in the back of your throat. I also get lashings of what feels like licorice. From what, I have no idea, and frankly, it doesn’t matter. I was fortunate enough to find an original and sealed bottle from the early 90’s. It’s a tiny little 30ml thing that would usually leave me too anxious to enjoy wearing it for fear of running out. Not here... 30ml of this will last me several lifetimes! It’s bloody fabulous, yet so of its time that I don’t know how often I’ll reach for it. I’m incredibly happy to own this unicorn though, and perhaps it’s something to pull out during moments of reflection on a misspent youth spent chasing girls and pretending to be grown up.

Just a short first impression: Heard the hype from Ramsey, and ordered a sample. Is it worthy of the hype? - As some say, "The greatest masculine classic ever." - Yes. It reminded me of another legendary classic Gucci Envy. They both have a creamy smooth sandalwood base, slightly sweet with cardomom spice. The honey and cinnamon just go perfectly with everything. Someone described it as having a green mossiness. Yes, oak moss with Laurel and cypress, give it that. It also boarders on gourmand: - The sweet honey and cinnamon, but they are blended with a great sandalwood, and some patchouli. This is a great old school Oakmoss fragrance. Great quality notes and performance. Still a good value for what they are going for on eBay. It performs better than Gucci Envy. Has the edge over Envy. It does smell old and dated. But this is the best of the best, vintage masculine. PS: Many say this may never have been reformulated. I think it has slightly. I have a 2 ml sample. It is sweet and rich, Oakmoss and patchouli heavy. I got one of the 30 ml spray bottles. It's still quite good, but brighter and more spicy. When I run out of my 30 ml bottle, will look for a 100 ml. I think it is the richer vintage. Rating: 10/10 God bless. Ephesians 2:8.

Synthetic warmth of sweetness that isn’t stupid. I don’t see any resemblance to Lapidus or Kouros — this smells like a modern niche fragrance, a lighter Tom Ford perhaps — an intriguing thing to explore. Or maybe like a Francis Kurkdjian Oud Silk, just more polite. There’s no animalic note, no real difficulty here — only perhaps an echo, a hint of something more challenging. The most difficult aspect here might be the apparent syntheticity — not that it’s an old or rustic scent like Furyo, but rather the synthetic element itself, which seems to be deliberately employed. It’s simply a fairly successful composition worth trying — unlike Lapidus or Furyo for instance — though aesthetically it sits somewhere between the two. There’s a sort of dry chewing gum feel — an interesting, well-balanced territory. The oud is clearly noticeable, which shows that M7 wasn’t the first fragrance to use oud. It’s beautiful, but for me it’s something to be appreciated as art — I’d feel too boyish wearing it. ⸻ So far, it seems Balenciaga is outstanding and really speaks to me — exceptionally balanced, not boyish, masculine — a dream signature scent.

It's like drinking a cinnamon coffee, sitting on your porch on a warm, lazy september morning. The dry vegetation forms a menagerie of golden auburn, red, yellow & brown. "It is good to have land" - you contentedly murmur out loud. The scent is very warm, aromatic & dry. So the powderiness becomes quite "dusty", which might be hard to swallow for some users. One can compare the dustiness to an attic in an old manor during the high Arizonan summer in the deep south. Or in Andalusia, as Balenciaga is a spanish brand! Personally I think this works in its favour! The cinnamon note is so seamlessly blended, I've never encountered anything like it. Usually with cinnamon-heavy fragrances, the cinnamon tends to stick out like a sore thumb. Even in better cinnamon fragrances, the other notes are commonly playing bilateral support to the cinnamon itself. Like they're just orbiting their star. In Balenciaga P.H the cinnamon is part of the orchestra. Every note is the star! I was going in, thinking this will probably be an overrated, overhyped vintage, but I'm glad I was proven wrong. This is top class :)

I have never written a review about this one and there it is. I remember when I bought my first bottle in 1990 when it was first released. I went to my local perfume shop at the basement of Montparnasee shopping mall (sadly the shop has now disappeared) and was not sure about what to get. I wasa already wearing Kouros and wanted something alike. So the sale assistant offered me to try Balenciaga pour homme and it was...whoah! that is absolutely amazing! The high notes were simply incredible and it was long lasting as well. I was receiving numerous positive aomments about it and it was simply very enjoyable...to this day. TYhis beatiful gem have become my top 3 favourite perfume and I am always on the look out for another one. Sadly, this fragrance is not aging well and most of my recent purchases have not been able to recreate the high notes as I remembeer them. Somehow they have died or altered to really enjoy in its full glory. That still does not stop me to get another one each time I finish my bottle as I know where to find some. One of the best gragrance ver. 10 out of 10. Pure joy!

This is a fragrance that I wasn't familiar with the first time around and what a crime that was because it's an absolute triumph. Really this stuff is superb, masculine even a little butch but not a powerhouse in the obnoxious sense. The opening is chunky, rounded and heavily spiced affair of coriander and pepper with an immediately mossy, herbal, woody feel. I get a big musk note too, potent but dying back quite quickly. The chunkiness I mentioned soon becomes apparent the creamy, spice of sandalwood and the main player patchouli which doesn't hit you straight in the face but builds steadily in the background. It's starts as an almost gourmand, cocoa type thing, steadily becoming more earthy but never overstepping the mark. I'm not overstating this but Balenciaga pour Homme might be one of the best patchouli fragrances for men that I've ever tried. To say that it's just a Patchouli fragrance is to do it a bit of a disservice, because it's a great blend of notes and even non patchouli fans would like it I'm sure. Such a shame this stuff is no longer in production because it's excellent.

wow, i ordered a small spray to get a whiff of this cologne..gorgeous..is all i can say..how has this has escaped my nose for so long? wonderful masculine fragrance, does not smell dated to me, powerful at first, but then develops into a beautiful fragrance for a man to wear..i am planning on getting some more of this, a definite bottle worthy purchase.i am dissapointed i never knew about this one. my curiosity peaked after reading about it here. this is one of the best that i have smelled. i recommend getting some to try. this a signature type scent for someone to wear.i think more for a mature wearer, maybe over 30..it does smell fantastic enough for anyone to wear though. it is right up with the best known classic scents like patou por homme or something of that calibur..special sexy fragrance..two thumbs way up for me!! just don't go too heavy with it , there is a blast at first...the small 1oz spray I got does not say cristobal Balenciaga, is this the same fragrance only reformulated or are they completely different?

I got a 3.3oz bottle of Balenciaga on eBay. Thank you eBay seller... I noticed the scent coming out of the bottle, so I said oh-oh! I sprayed it on lightly. It is true that these bottles do leak after being sprayed, so beware. Don't know why. My first impression was a real strong civet with spices, almost cat urinish. A bit floral. But, but, after the drydown starts taking place----oh my!!!! Beautifully stunning. The ingredients are top notch. You can't get this at a department store anymore! I smell patchouli, dirty patchouli. I smell lime, coriander, a boozy hint of honey, sandalwood and spices too many to name, so I defer to the above listed ingredients. I get waifs of it, beautiful no doubt. A real work of art here! Why this is not brought back, I won't understand. I guess to be in the perfumery business, you have to sell what sells. Unfortunately, the current buying public doesn't get craftsmanship...

I tried Balenciaga pour Homme after reading Michael Edwards' statements about "The first Western perfume containing real Oud", and I was really blown away by this unknown gem. Straight to the core: this is one of the Masterpieces of Perfumery. There is not a single aspect you can't remain with your jaw dropped. I can't say if this is the first time Oud was used in a western scent, nonetheless the incense, resinous notes are really outstanding in the drydown. Pure heaven. Citrus and floral notes superbly mixed with incense ones, and a whole bunch of heart notes blooming in. Refined, elegant, brilliant. There is a vague resembrance with YSL Kouros, without dirty urinous notes, replaced by incense and oud. Speechless. Mouthwatering. Stunning. Longevity and radiation at highest levels. Don't exaggerate with over-applications! I have ended all praises, 10/10 isn't enough, this scent deserves at least 11/10.

I got a vintage decant and I’m trying it out on my wrists from one quick spray. I think it’s more wearable than original Kouros for me, even though they’re pretty different I guess. I can pick out some notes but it’s pretty well blended to my nose. I get this rosewood? type note that must be from the way the resins, herbs, honey and cinnamon are blended. Or maybe from the oakmoss also (I forget exactly how it smells). I really like that and I keep sniffing my wrists. I feel like this is one of those scents that is less about the time of year and location and more about how you wear it and how you hold yourself as you wear it. For example I can see myself rocking this as I’m just casually hanging out with some friends while feeling confident in what I’m doing and how I’m presenting myself. If that makes sense. Whether it’s from the retro vibe or not, it’s definitely evocative and full of character.

This is a magnificent fragrance that has a symphony of notes of the highest quality. It is a real beauty and a pleasure to smell. It opens with the smoothest best quality incense I have smelled in a fragrance coupled with patchouli. This is backed up with citrus notes.From this opening it smells like a spicy apple cider aroma but in a really good way. This is quickly followed by a sweet lavender note as well as cinnamon. As time passes you can pick up leather and floral notes all mixed in with the patchouli and incense in a olfactory smelling harmony. I get a amazing sixteen hours longevity with above average projection. I have to say I have never smelled anything like this it is quite unequal. Hand on my heart this is one of the very best high quality fragrances I have ever smelled. It's a pity that this was discontinued in the late Nineties as it is Magnificent. A perfect 10 out of 10.

As far as I know, the house of Balenciaga was owned by the Bogart Group at the launch of this fragrance in 1990. That says a lot about it, and makes perfect sense, because Balenciaga pour Homme is a great powerhouse in the rich Bogart tradition, perfectly sandwiched as a 1990 release between 1988's Furyo and 1992's Witness. Those of you who know all three fragrances would appreciate the three-release sequence as a fragrant crescendo, (or a diminuendo, depending on how you look at it), where the major chord is a triad of cinnamon, incense and patchouli. And this is why I love Bogart, (including all of their "side releases" such as Balenciaga and Lapidus): You do not get separate fragrances that are just great on their own accord, but a whole grand "tome", if you will, that consists of various chapters, each of which correspond to a different fragrance.

Undoubtedly a masterpiece. The stars had to align perfectly to birth this, whatever Faustian pact Gerard Anthony had to sign in blood to tap into the platonic olfactory realm of ideals was most definitely worth it. Subtle civet, cinnamon, slightly tart autumnal fruits slowly (and dramatically) smooth-out to reveal the most natural and beautifully comforting patchouli and sandalwood drydown. Classic, but not at all dated. On par with the best of the best in terms of the vintage mens fragrances I've tried, if it wasn't woefully discontinued It might be signature-worthy for me. Pretty much performs ideally as well, incredibly tenacious but never over-powering or cloying. Just perfect in every way. If you have any sort of reverence for vintage fragrances, this is essential.

I get the musk! This one is animalic. And it smells from another time. Does not smell old at all! Newer fragrances like Dior Sauvage, Versace Eros, 1 Million... They try to impress with newer chemicals, like a more efficient technology. It is not necessarily bad or wrong, but a more artificial experience. However, Balenciaga has some animal and other exotic natural scents. It does not smell bad. I imagine hugging a clean puppy and getting that animal skin scent. So yes, it could be weird or not normal nowadays. Oh, and I do get the woody oud but it is very tame, unlike an Al Haramain... I have a decant and I would certainly get more. Really hard to describe. You have to smell it for yourself to understand it. Manly, slightly sweet, well blended, complex.

Thank you for honoring my request to add this to the data base. If I have a "signature" fragrance this is and has been it for over twenty years. I am currently at a loss for words that will do this on justice. When I am able to articulate a worthy review I will honor this masterpiece accordingly. This is singular. When I thought I would not be able to obtain a replacement for my dwindling supply, I searched diligently for anything similar, tired to replicate it myself, nothing even remotely close in vibe quality lack of offensive notes presence of and balance of high quality notes etc.Tried anything that anybody claimed was similar- but never even close- they clearly did not "get" this one.

Yes, Balenciaga pour Homme is everything that the good people below claim it to be. And more. No, the listed notes do not do justice to this marvel of men’s perfume. It’s a true conglomerate of notes and concepts that never feel chaotic or dispersed, they are perfectly organized and managed. Yes, there is oud (according to Michael Edwards this, and not another beloved of mine - M7, was the first western perfume to use oud), and there is caramel, and lavender, and jasmine, and clove.... No, it’s not outdated. Actually it puts to shame many contemporary Royal Ouds i’ve had the misfortune to smell. Yes, Balenciaga Pour Homme is one of the best Pour Homme fragrances of all time. *****

In no way is this similar to Bogart Furyo. I love Bogart Furyo but this is not close to that. Balenciaga Pour Homme is just a masterpiece. Unfortunately they discontinued this one. A big mistake I think. I wish they remade this but in edp concentration. Intensify the Ceylon Cinnamon, Yugoslavian Oakmoss and a more animalic honey. After about 2hrs you can smell some of the Bourbon Vanilla. Slightly Gourmand. Aubusson Pour Homme may have similar notes on the dry down. It's as close you'll get. Balenciaga Pour Homme also reminds me of those high end potpourri balls you put in the bathroom. Except this is the Radisson Hotel.

According "How the West fell in love with Oud" (searchable on the net) Balenciaga pour Homme is the first scent to contain pure Oud oils. Anecdotes apart, it's one of the best resinous, amber-and-incense fragrances, apparently mixed up in a foolish way with fresh notes of citrus and bergamot. The result is a superb oriental scent for men, with definitely some resemblances with "Kouros" by YSL. Longevity and sillage both very high. The mix of citrus with oud make it a very uncommon type of perfume, still an excellent one. This is an example of "modernism" in perfumery. Mandatory for all open-mind fragrance lovers.

A gorgeously sweet woody men's fragrance from back in the day. The dominant notes are a lovely honey, sandalwood, and patchouli, with a smoky resinous labdanum tying everything together, and lots of different spices (including cinnamon at the top) making this beautifully complex and layered. This reminded me of so many other fragrances of days gone by--primarily the chypre Luciano Pavarotti by Luciano Pavarotti, another honey dominant scent, which is also now sadly discontinued and also from the same wonderful era, which was literally decades before I had the slightest interest in fragrance (unfortunately!).

bought this recently from an old lady in an old store...no it wasn't x-mas but it seemed like it...a bottle of 100 ml + one of 50 ml for 15 euro (19,6 usd) !! cos they were the last ones in her (old)store...I thanked her and said she was a keeper of tha good stuff and although she was over 80, she knew i was right and started a passionate story of the history of scents and her own little shop...now this story as such, equals the quality of the balenciaga smell...older, but full of quality,pleasure and dignity !! Finally got my 100ml bottle, almost two months waiting...however has no atomizer, only the cap...does anyone know is this the usual presentation? Anyway this is truly a sillage monster. Opens with a huge scent of olives and vinager, and due to my spanish grandfather I love OLIVES since I was 5 or 6, I know them very well!! Not a surprise Balenciaga added this note noticing the big tradition of olives in mediterranean cuisine countries. At certain moments reminds me Dali pour Homme but fresher, with caramel notes. Has anyone noticed that olive scent before?

I am trying everything I can to prevent myself from spending US$300 on an full size bottle of OG. This fragrance is a masterpiece. I can't really place it except to say jammy and metallic in just the right combination; my husband tells me he smells roses whenever I wear it. Whenever I do wear it I cringe just a little because I know I will run out one day. If you have the money to pay $300 to $400 for some perfume without it affecting you, buy this perfume. It is an amazing scent.

Do you know the word "mesmerizing"? Balenciaga pour Homme got me completely. It has top notes that reveal citruses, incense with a soft spicy touch these lead to the Warm and Mossy base notes ruled by Amber,Okamoss and Vetiver as it has a lot of hidden notes that seems to come out at different stages. a sort of Kaleidoscope scent. Being strong, almost overpowering, BpH is a must try. Heaven in a Bottle. Sillage? Enormous Longevity? Endless. In a word? Mesmerizing.

This is a fantastic fragrance and I have a couple hundred ml to back my fanhood of it. It is a very strong cinnamon patchouli woody and almost animalic vibe that is incredible. You can still find it online if you look. Give Roja Dove time... he has already stolen some other classics. This would sell these days as a niche no question. I am also surprised that people compare this to anything listed above. Orange Spice and Lapidus PH? Not even close.

This is simply outstanding. It blows Patou Pour Homme out of the water and definitely rates in my top 5 of all time (for all genders!) This is an incredibly distinctive and classy scent. It is timeless. I was so blown away that I rushed to eBay and bought six of the biggest bottles I could find in case there is a drought in the vintage market in future! You absolutely must own a bottle of this perfume. A true work of art.

Perhaps the absolute pinnacle of the aromatic fougere. Certainly a challenge to Azzaro PH in this regard. More complex, bright, and mossy than Azzaro, with prominent savory lime notes infused with cinnamon, thyme, coriander, and incense and softened with a floral/caramelic touch of sweetness. The base to me is about boozy oakmoss with some camphorous patchouli and woods (sandal and cedar.) Powerful, persistent perfection.

I like to think that the blue nebula-like cap design perfectly represents what this fragrance is. Balenciaga pour homme feels cosmically transcendental, as if it's not bound by space or time. It doesn't smell like kouros or furyo or lapidus pour homme, it doesn't smell like any other fragrance released in its time, or even anything released since to this day. It's otherworldly, an absolute masterpiece.

I started wearing this in the 90s. I was addicted to it. Men & women stop me to ask what I am wearing. It's a masterpiece. They need to bring this back!!! I love wearing it & I'm a woman. I only have mini bottles left now...sadly they aren't smelling the same. Bottled Nirvana! Every time I wear BPH I go into a deep state of tranquility and bliss. Unless you really smell it, there's no way you can imagine how beautiful this perfume is by just studying the notes. As much as I hate the fact that it's discontinued, the selfish part of me is glad. This way, BPH will always remain special. P.S. comparing BPH, even remotely, to Aubusson is simply a crime.

My dear nostalgic Fragheads: I tried Meleg's Honey and Deer Musk. It has that same 80s honey and a very real sexy musk. But that's it. It does not have all the bells and whistles or any other top notes as Balenciaga Pour Homme. No patchouli either. But it's the closest I've found so far. Meleg is on Etsy and he didn't pay me to write this review. I tell you this because I love you!

This is not the cristobal version. It's not written on any of the newer boxes. I would like to know if anyone knows the difference of the new version, vintage version and the cristobal version. I do know, the one I purchased online recently is amongst the best in my collection. A+ masculine scent. A true bargain when factoring price to quality of scent. Very well done.

This is like Kouros mixed with whiskey and clove, it's that simple, still wearable though. And I can't believe there are so many notes listed, it's not that complex. Update. Have been wearing this more and more. While wearing it one day and after 2 hours, I had the impression I was wearing M7 or Oud Wood. There is definitely oud somewhere buried under the sheets.

The opening for this reminds me so much of chanel egoiste, that sharp cinnamon smell transforms to a soft toasted cinnamon,honey and cedar scent. i love this stuff, doesnt smell like the soft, weak scents o today.a true spicebomb. glad i got another bottle because soon this will go for ridiculously expensive prices.

I can see this remind many of old classics. It reminded me of Floris 1962. If you love woody classics, this has laurel and cypress, patchouli. It's nicely mossy, with real oakmoss. What makes it unique is a gourmand aspect of honey, cinnamon and vanilla. But it works.

This stuff is crazy good. Took a couple app's and a few days for it to grow on me, but it is really unique. Too bad it's discontinued. Super longevity, impressive sillage, and just a super complicated fragrance that never ceases to impress.

A true masculine heavyweight champion of the 90's. This scent was one of the only real contenders of King Kouros, Ted Lapidus pour Homme and Xeryus by Givenchy. A real timeless masterpiece that I will always keep in my collection.

its a shame this gorgeous fragance isnt available anymore,real old school, its from 1990 but reminds more to the 50s with its wonderful bottle of white stone, class ,style,guess old billonaires smells like this edt does

MASTERPIECE. It is a touch dated compared to all the lighter aquatic scents out these days but that makes it even more special. Go light on the trigger as this can be smelled for miles. Thank you Bogart/Balenciaga!

Do you like Bloody Marys? Opens green and crunchy, full-bodied and complex. Honeyed, slightly animalic base. Not powdery like Scherrer or outdated like Polo. I'm enjoying the uniqueness.

MASTERPIECE, period. You can't just believe how good it is. Woods, resins, incenses, whatsoever....this is one of the perfumes a serious collector just have to try and store.
