Sweet, deep & dark Amber with vanilla, very SMOOTH woody nuances (the ebony is beautiful)...... Beautiful ! The geranium is present but at the back, almost as if mixed with the cinnamon but the stars of the show: Myrrh, ebony, & vanilla. The tobacco gently peeks thru here & there throughout the life of the fragrance. Truly a smooth & well crafted scent. Not a safe blind buy but if you love dark ambery woody scents, you will be just fine. This frag is a winter baddie for both women & men!

I smell oud in here. Despite not being in the notes, it's done beautifully well. Warm, spicy, earthy, smokey and dark are good ways to describe it. He's the handsome father of the line. Also, I think it's important to say that this is a mature man's fragrance. I can see it being too strong for our young collectors. It's a little simplistic but smells incredible and expensive.

I sprayed this in Neiman Marcus before I went to Halloween Horror Nights, and I loved it so much. It’s such a fun fragrance to wear, very uplifting; I felt really happy wearing it. I would get whiffs in the air, and it cuddled me all day and night long. In my opinion, it’s a masterpiece.

Just tried this new (renewed) fragrance. I'm in love! Warm and richly spiced, perfect for autumn. I avoid fruits and flowers, so suits me nicely. I'd wear day and night. A nicely mature fragrance that has moderate sillage and longevity.

It reminds me of Ebene Fume but I feel like this might, I'm so sure but last and project more, this on my scarf lasted a really long time (25 days).

I like what Balmain(Estee Lauder) have done with this collection, a combination of revamped classics (Vent Vert, Ivoire), new stuff (Sel d'Ambre) and surprising Tweaks and switcheroo's (Ebene>Carbone) Let's hope they are in The EL discount store soon because the prices are a little too rich for my blood. This is not specifically a criticism of this collection but a reflection of the entire industry and this designer label BS of... can we get away with charging more? Well we charge £200-£300 for a pocket square or a beanie hat, why should the perfumes be any different? Gone are the days when perfume was the relatively, (I'm not rose tinting the whole thing) affordable, aspirational purchase, you know? You can't afford a Chanel bag or a Cartier watch but you can still have an entry level piece of the pie in the form of a luxurious perfume. Now it seems to be an arms race for who can charge the most and all it's doing is driving the clone markets, which have also increased in price. Anyway... Ebene has a lovely deep, sepia tinged opening of spicy woods and dark peppery incense, and that peculiar sweetness of myrrh. It settles fairly quickly but largely the description from the opening persists throughout into a modern, slightly tweaked, airy based version of something like a Gucci PHI or that Bentley (but this is a bit smoother and longer lasting) I feel a little vanillic rounding and aerated amber effect in the base. I don't think this is all the way Carbone de Balmain which was marketed towards Men in the 2010's maybe? But it's closer to that than I imagine the old Ebene (never smelled it, but judging by the comments of folks who have) and the new Carbone which is NOTHING like I remember. This is good outing, it's nothing special but what I like is the balance of these compositions not too intriguing, but not too flat or lacking in personality by the same token.

I really love the opening to this, dark, smoky and woody also very intensely spicy and I think from frankincense and myrrh. It very quickly settles into an intimate and cozy woodsy cologne that the wood smells along the lines of something like Darley, Reflection, etc. honestly would’ve thought it was sandalwood in this but is a little simple to me and feels the least interesting I’ve tried up to this point, also easily the weakest performing too by far.

If someone said, “Let’s make a scent that’s heavy on incense, and of course with a good dose of tobacco...very classic, spicy, woody” then this is probably the average result that would come into existence. And it ends up spreading its bland, overdone aroma everywhere. Like anything, this too will have its audience, of course. I’m not here to judge. But not for this price!

Has nothing In common with the original Ebene 1983 👎😠 a very dishonest marketing policy by Balmain & Lauder group👎 they don't dare to name it otherwise! Shame on Balmain 😠

A smoky, woody, oud-ey thing. This is a completely different genre of scent than the original Ebene (which was a dry, woody, barbershop fougere). I would argue that this perhaps is more befitting of the name "Ebene" as the original was very much a capital "G" Green fragrance to my nose. This could be my nose totally playing tricks on me, but there is an accord in here that truly does bring to mind the original Ebene....a kind of sour, herbal, woody, green, celery-seed quality....part of me wonders if the modern oud, woody thing was built around what genuinely was the original accord. This new version has none of the fresh, lavender notes of the original.

Couldn’t wash this faster from my arm! It is super strong and masculine, prominent tobacco- like cigarettes in a church. On top of it liquor sweetness and... just no.

Starts off as a 1980s fresh leathery fougère (Antaeus), but becomes more and more oudy over time.
