Extatic

As a lover of the older Balmain perfumes, I was eager to try this. The initial spray left me perplexed as to the notes. The only way I can describe this is a mixture of pleasant smelling notes that don't actually smell of anything other than unidentifiable florals to me. I'm sorry to be so vague in a review, but I really couldn't put my finger on what this actually is. I can smell fruity florals but perhaps my inexperience can't identify the notes. The smell is nice enough, but it's certainly not what I expected from Balmain either. It starts off as a typical crowd pleaser, woody in a pencil shavings sort of way and slightly spicy/floral. The secret of this perfume is in the drydown. I was not expecting this perfume to morph into anything other than nice, but meh, but OMG! What a surprise this had in store for me! After an hour or so this perfume becomes everything that I would expect from. Balmain. Chic French sophistication, gorgeous aroma of fruit, wood and slightly spicy, but all done in a very elegant way. The dry down is much nicer, as this morphs into a sweet, spicy, woodyness, Longevity on me is pretty good, it's still going strong after about 4 hours and silage is average. My conclusion is that despite the negative reviews, this is a beautiful and typically elegant French perfume, created under the umbrella of a highly respected perfume house. Please try and work with this perfume for the reward that you will reap from it. It's worth the wait.

What a baby! Clémence CC, i feel you eheh. On the first spray i get the impact of a mix between a sharp sweet fruitness/"florally" touch (the pear being more proeminent imo) but the osmanthus quickly rules and is the protagonist from then on: vaguely peach, because it's covered by incense. The incense, smokiness, woodiness stands out and it stays like that for a while. Then it calms down and the cashmere wood effect shows up , as the booster base note. There's depth in it, but like in a subtle velvety, not intrusive or heady way. Personally i love it, elegant fragrance.

I really like this! As soon as I tested it, I added it to my list of 'to buy' perfumes. It's a beautiful floral, with a balanced woody/cashmere base. The pear makes it slightly sweet in the beginning, but it evolves into a velvety smooth floral. It's not a very eloquent way to describe it, but it reminds me of fabric softener on freshly washed linen. I realise that makes it sound cheap (it doesn't smell cheap), but it's the best way of describing its powdery floral notes.

I love this scent but unfortunately, I cannot find it. I've been on a search for over 4 years but no luck yet. It doesn't smell artificial and overly sweet on me. It's exotic and a little bit spicy sweet and most definitely sexy fragrance. When I used to wear it I was always asked what I was wearing. So I would appreciate it if someone could send me the link to me buy balmain extatic. Thanks.

Scent of a classy lady. A beautiful, creamy, sweet fragrance for a confident, elegant and sophisticated woman. Warm and alluring. I feel like I got a confidence boost every time I spray it on. Literally makes me feel so independent, sexy and chic. Sweet pear, fragrant orchid, soft cashmere and osmanthus. The dry down smells a little powdery.

Very feminine scent, I am suprised that there are so many negative reviews. Yes Extatic Eau de Parfum is sweet scent. It's sweetness of pear with orchid and cashmere woods, but not in ordinary way. For me it's not typical scent, it reminds me 90's, something in my childhood.. Nice elegant bottle with lovely smell.

I am in love! I have never tried perfumes by Balmain. Extatic is everything I want from a perfume - modern, beautifully blended and longlasting. It reminds me strongly of Jimmy Choo, but this is woodier. I don't know what is the sweet note that is so intense, but the smell is wonderful.

Totally love this. It's sweet (not too sweet) but in a creamy way, with depth and a hint of coolness. It lasts on me forever never overpowering but the sort of perfume you notice as someone walks past you.

It is honey-sweet pear jam on my skin for the first 20 min. Then it gets more powdery, like powdery sweet leather. Personally I love it! Longevity could be better

My only problem with this is the longevity, no longer than two hours, so sad, it would be perfect if only it lasted a bit longer on my skin :(

I received a mini spray not knowing what to expect. Upon first spray, I recoiled. It opened with a sour medicinal syrup scent that seemed almost musky in a way that felt like it penetrated deep inside me. It's a scent I've smelled before, mostly from older perfumes that I remember seeming marketed toward "mature" women in the 90's magazines. It's a note/combination that I believe was common in a number of vintage scents. For me, that is not a scent I have ever been able to tolerate. I decided to wait and see what the dry down is like. After a few minutes this scent is divine. It's very sweet, like a slightly smoky powdery vanilla, maybe with a touch of cinnamon, coated over something that I think WAS giving the cough syrup impression, but now it smells faintly like red hard candy or a lollipop. It's a really great scent combination. It sounds gourmand but it's not quite edible, it's more of a smell like if human skin actually turned sweeter. There's a softness and seductiveness to it. I'd say it's a scent that makes me think more of fall or winter. It seems a bit rich and heavy for the summer, in terms of the actual *fragrance* I'm getting. The projection and silliage don't seem impressive, more of a strong skin scent. It feels like a vintage scent, but I think it could also be unisex. Especially for men who want to layer, this would be a very alluring intimate scent. Even though I referred to this as a skin scent, it's very rich, so if you're the type to like light airy body spray type scents, this may be a bit too aggressive for you. Ultimately, I don't see myself purchasing a bottle. The sour medicinal opening is hard for me to get over. This isn't one I want to risk over spraying in order to make it project. If I get bored with my collection I'd be open to picking up a bottle maybe further down the road.

An orchid-centered floral on a base of creamy cashmere woods with an overlay of juicy, warm pear. Like sugared cooked pears, not like a crisp cold pear. The orchid feels quite powdery and a little vanillic. The other florals are dancing around it to support it, but they don't really stand out. There's a hint of dry woodsiness in this, though not enough to change the overall very creamy feel of the fragrance. You really have to enjoy cashmeran to get along with this, as Extatic contains lots and lots of it. If you're anosmic to this synthetic note, the perfume won't perform for your nose, if you find it scratchy, everything about it will be ruined. To me this is a nice fragrance that would work for many occasions, as it's sweet, but not an in-your-face gourmand. It would be a good addition to a smaller perfume collection, maybe as a versatile everyday scent for the colder months. In a larger collection like mine it won't stand out. So saying it made me feel extatic would be an exaggeration. The performance fine on my skin, not beastly, but definitely lasting enough for a normal workday.

Don't buy this. I sprayed 6 sprays of this 2 hours ago, and now it's gone. Applied to both shirt and skin, and even if I press my face into my arm, I can barely detect, that I'm wearing anything. I could easily apply another perfume on top of this, and be fine, no disturbances from this scent. This comes at a fine pricetag, for a 60 ml. But for how much you spray, to wear it and like it, buy something better, with a greater lasting power. This is just sad. The design of the flanker really dragged me in, it looks like quality. But I can't say the same for the lasting power. The scent though? Yeah, it smells nice. Nothing major, but not bad either. Not a scent you would stand out in a crowd with. Very anonymous. I tried to like it, since I am now stuck with this flanker. But no... It's not there for me. I'm going back to Calvin Kleins Euphoria... almost same price, but Euphoria has its own vibe, and lasts a LOT longer on my skin.

I'm surprised that so many people dislike this fragrance! I immediately recognised the notes on my first sniff in the department store although it took me longer to work out what it reminds me of - it's La Vie Est Belle! Apparently, I'm one of those who enjoy these gourmand, sweet, praline types scents which is exactly how this plays out on me... Update: on the second wearing, I found I could pick up a lot more of the floral notes, and even a touch of fruit! I'm understanding more of the criticism now I think... This fragrance seems slightly confused!! However, my first impressions were good so I'm going to keep wearing this and try to understand it more fully. A slight concern though is that I feel a fragrance probably shouldn't have to be studied to be understood - it should immediately intrigue or delight people with its notes... Maybe this is a miss after all (EDP purchased)

I don't know why but Pierre Balmain's Extatic reminds me a lot to of L’Extase from Nina Ricci. To my nose they are almost identical, even though they share almost no similarities in their notes. I'm guessing that for me the jammy rose note is very prominent in both of them which leaves me with the same impression of a very sweet, dry and sultry scent. Quit honestly the only thing I can feel from Extatic are the iris and the rose. For some strange reason the other notes just seem lost to my nose. The difference between the two for me is that I can faintly recognise a leather note in the background of Extatic while L’Extase has a more sweetly sour feeling to it.Still I think it's a nice, youthful and interesting enough perfume. I think I have to try it at least a few more times in order to have a more objective opinion about it.

The classier version of the ripen pear JPG La Belle (that came later). I personally feel this fragrance does not match the brand character/personality even a little, despite that sleek gold packaging. It gives me no fun but nostalgic warm-hearted feelings and cocooning vibes like snuggling with someone you love under a cashmere blanket during winter nights. Orchid is alluringly present and gives depth together with cashmeran. I find the base is the most beautiful, soft leathery and woody touch that differentiates Extatic from other sweet basic commercial perfumes. This one is also great for layering. It should not receive so much hate. If you can get past that toothache sugary pear opening and let it evolve, this is another beautiful sensual (& underrated) fragrance.

This smells very smooth, balanced, and well rounded to me. It's woody and rich, and softened by the florals without being a floral perfume. Sadly, it dries down to smell sort of like pickle juice on me. I think it's the amyris note...I have an amyris essential oil that does the same thing--starts out smelling like smoked sandalwood and turns to vinegar within 20 minutes on my skin. This could easily be a signature perfume, imo. It doesn't scream any one season, age range, or time of day to me. I also think this is a unisex fragrance. I don't get the sweetness that other reviewers are mentioning, and could see this leaning more masculine on a man. Good lasting power and sillage. Just wish it didn't turn to pickle juice on me. I'm going to try again in winter.

When I tried this frangrance during Summer, I found it too heavy: the amyris was too overwhelming, the fruit too strong, too much of everything.. except for the wood which wasn't there at all. I wasn't sure about it though. Tried it these days in colder weather and I have to say that I pretty much like it! The amyris is visibly toned down but still there to give the fruit a certain quirkiness. The wood is also unveiled and makes this frangrance stand out from the other boring fruity scents on the market. This is an elegant frangrance with an edge. On the right woman, it will definitely smell heavenly.

The opening phase of Balmain Extatic on my skin, is a very sugary pear in syrup, along with some vague floral notes. This stage lasts about 3 hours before transitioning into creamy cacao and musk. The sillage is moderate to soft, and the longevity is around 10 hours. As a fruity floral fragrance with gourmand elements, Extatic is quite pleasant despite the sugary opening. But at the same time, there are quite a few fragrances similarly constructed on the market, and Extatic does not seem to stand out among them. I'd suggest testing a few in the same genre before eventual purchase.
