Grassland

It's not GIT. GIT smells of a dried pile of grass (in a good way) mixed with Violet and Lavender, that fades into an old book or tweed jacket (from the Ambergris/Ambroxan) with random spurts of Violet and Lavender (the classic "Irish Spring" smell). GIT is my daily. Grasslands is what you imagine a green meadow to smell of. There's no defined smell as there is in GIT. Yes, the Petitgrain, Moss, Patcholi, Apple and Citrus all show up and can be distinguished from each other. But if you aren't looking, they blend together to make a beautiful green smell, in a sort of ozonic quality. The opening is quite strong. During the dry down the green smells starts to taper off a little bit, and you smell more of the floral, lavender, geranium and woody notes. Mind you, the green is still dominate, but it's calmed down to where you can smell some depth. The lavender and geranium are probably why some may find it to be barbershop-like. But as someone who also loves Fougeres, I don't get much of the barbershop feel. I don't smell Ambroxan/Ambergris like I do in GIT, and it's not very sweet, the vanilla is a background note at most. It's a very clean, grassy meadow smell. Good sillage and projection but average longevity. If the idea of a "clean green" fragrance sounds good to you, you'll probably like it.

So... I hate both mint and green apple, so naturally I blind bought this. (Eye roll.) But it's actually lovely on me. When first sprayed, I get a lot of lavender with a fresh spicy aspect. As it dries, the warmth of the ambergris becomes prominent. As it matures on me, the lavender, ambergris, and some fresh spicy green notes become beautifully balanced. It interesting to me that there is nothing I would describe as mint (which I'm sensitive to and hate passionately) or green apple (which always smells off on me). There are some green notes, but none of the menthol that is horrid to my nose. I like lavender as a singular note, but sometimes I struggle to find fragrances I like that are lavender centered. But the persistent warmth of this makes the difference for me. I wouldn't say this is a beast, but it lasts a good, long time on me (at least 8 hours) and projects well. Considering its notes, that's amazing in my opinion. So, even though most people smell mint and apple in this one, I'd suggest trying it yourself before dismissing it if you aren't into those notes. It's possible that you'll have the same reaction as I did and end up loving this fragrance.

This one caught me off guard. The first spray of Grassland brought a tear to my eye — not because of nostalgia for a specific memory, but because of how it created one. It reminded me of being wrapped in fresh, sun-dried linen sheets on a slow Sunday morning. The kind of morning where you’re not rushed — you’re just there, half-asleep, and the sunlight is creeping gently through the window. You can see tiny dust particles suspended in that golden beam, dancing in the stillness. It’s clean in a way that feels sacred. Developed in freshness, and softened by something almost tender. There’s no metallic sharpness, no fake citrus punch. It’s not even close to Irish Spring or anything synthetic. This is elevated cleanliness — a quiet, almost emotional scent that wraps around you like a freshly made bed in a warm, open room. Honestly, I don’t understand why someone wouldn’t want to smell this clean. There’s a kind of peace in it — a pause. Grassland isn’t just a fragrance; it’s a breath of calm in a bottle.

Just received this in the mail today. I can't speak of the longevity yet, but so far the scent is very reminiscent of Green Irish Treed, just less lush, but still has that delicious, dewy green quality. Overall, GIT is a far superior scent, but this is a great cheaper alternative and would make for an easy dumb reach for most occasions. EDIT: Projection seems weak so far. Girlfriend's reaction: "I like this one". Drydown is apple/spicey, like a very mild, slightly soapy Hugo Man (1995), with slight GIT aspect remaining. EDIT 24/5/21: I've found myself drawn to wearing this to work because it smells nice without drawing attention to myself. As a medical professional, it's really important to not have an unpleasant or overbearing scent, so GIT's sillage has always been a bit too much for me at work. So Grassland has kind of given me a GIT-lite experience, which has been really nice to have at work, and price-wise, makes more sense as an everyday scent versus GIT.

It’s a very clean and fresh scent that isn’t exactly subtle, but it’s definitely beautiful and perfect for daily use during springtime. It’s a green fragrance for sure, but much smoother and more wearable than most traditional green scents. You get hints of mint, citrus, lavender, patchouli, sandalwood, and vanilla. This is one of the few fragrances I can confidently say is made for springtime. I honestly can’t think of anything else in my collection that fits spring better than this. You could still wear it in cooler days in summer, but probably not when it gets really hot around July to September. It just smells so beautiful. This is easily one of my favorites from the house. The only downside is that it doesn’t perform very well, like most BR fragrances. But it’s affordable, so you can always reapply it. 8.8/10

I like this one at $20. The lavender that comes through reminds me a little of Tres Nuit, but this is not a replacement for GIT or Greenley. However, if you like those fragrances and you can appreciate less expensive scents, you might like this one. I enjoy the bite of the mint, apple and citrus in the opening, but as it dries down, the fresher notes fade and the scent becomes soapy and warm. I enjoy that shift. While I consider this a green fragrance, and the opening matches the box and bottle presentation, I think the name "Grassland" implies something that would be like 78 Vintage Green, which this is not. Still, this is an interesting, well-blended scent that works well in warm weather when I want something different from my usual summer fragrances.

“Minty shaving gel” is what I get from this one. The overall scent isn’t overly green by any means. I get just a little bit of mint along with a lot of ambergris and moss in the base. These notes along with the lavender and ozone most likely give it that fresh barbershop “shaving gel” impression I get with this one. I understand the GIT and Cool Water comparisons, however Grassland is a more modern/wearable version of both of those fragrances. The more I’ve worn this, the more I like it. I find Grassland to be slightly better than Metal Rain in terms of overall wearability, however it still suffers from poor projection/longevity (4hrs). Scent - 6.5/10 Performance - 4/10

This smells really good on my skin. Like all Banana Republic fragrances it is smooth and well blended. I expected this to be more like Vintage Green but it goes a different direction, the mint smell is refreshing but the apple, bergamot and pomelo freshen it up a bit so it's not really "grassy" like the green leaves I smell in Vintage Green. As it evolves it smooths out quite a bit and ends up at a nice light patchouli and vanilla blend with the fruits still ever so faint in the mix. This is a great fragrance, period. The whole experience with this one is nice, from the fresh opening to the dry down it is a nice journey and it's pleasant all along the way.

I can not think of anything that sells for $20 at Burlington that is any better when it comes to scent and quality. One is Grasslands and the other is Condoban Vintage. Even at $50, these are top-notch fragrances. It is fresh and somewhat sweet. Many have described this as a cross between Irish Spring, Cool Water, and Irish Tweed. You can add a little Prada Carbon and Sauvage and you pretty much get Grasslands. If you can find it for $20, it is worth a blind buy. If you have a Perfumania outlet in the area, you can try it there to see if you like it. Cordoban Vintage is another Banana Republic worth buying for the cooler weather.

Classic Green barbershop fragrance. No resemblance to Irish Tweed other than it’s green. Closely resembles Eau Savage Parfum. And it is considered a masterpiece. This lasts the longest of the BR colognes. (I have 11). 4-5 sprays gets half a day and projects 2-3 feet. Definitely is a more mature smell, but for $20, it’s a definite add to any collection, or even starting out. This is a true soft green. Unlike Ralph’s Club and Guilty black, the blues are very very subtle. And it stays masculine, where Tweed softens out. I comfortably wear this on planes, office, anywhere.

A minty more modern Creed Green Irish Tweed inspiration with a bit of an Irish Spring vibe. The opening is aromatic mint, bergamot, apple, and sweet grapefruit. In the heart I get ozonic lavender, petitgrain, and fresh cut geranium bringing the Irish Spring profile in behind the GIT profile. The base is mossy patchouli and salty ambery sandalwood. Of the various GIT inspirations I've tried, this leans the most towards an uplifting fresh Spring scent. It's really refreshing and would be the one I'd pick for fresh-from-shower use.

The Icon line has some good fragrances. There are a few I do not care for, but Grassland is a real nice scent. It goes through the three sages and changes as it develops and dries down. I also agree that this is more of a manly scent compared to some of the other Icons. I get decent performance out of this, it does not have a huge scent trail or sillage, but it is there for most of the day 6+ hours. This would be good for a date, office or church, non-offensive.

Christmas Eve, the house on 3rd street - you’re watching your grandfather shave in a foggy mirror, the air thick and the fern wall paper peeling. He’s talking through each step, slowly getting ready for midnight mass, the process unchanged since he taught your dad in the same room. Years later you’ll try to recreate the exact ritual, even down to the safety razor, but something is always missing. Notes: mint, lavender/geranium, patchouli, oakmoss, vanilla.

Ok so far I’ve been using this fragrance and I like it! Smooth green barbershop clean smell. This is something you can use everyday casual great for office . This has a green Irish tweed vibe,Chanel egoiste platinum,Perry Ellis portofolio elite ,maison margiela at the barbers. If you like those I mentioned of course you’re going to like this . Also a great price $22 dollars. Yes!

This is very nice. I wasn't going to pick this up given the mix reviews but this is a great pick up for $22. WOW! I have Metal Rain and Vintage Green and I love them. Id love to find Cypress Cedar and Niroli Woods. I've had Cherry Amber and Tobacco Tonka Bean. They are ok. They don't last.

I really like this fragrance! This was a blind buy for me. I watched a few reviews and liked what I heard. I am very pleased with this purchase. I was looking for a nice clean classic smell for spring and summer and Grassland fit the bill.

Haven't tried GIT but I do have Tres Nuit which is supposed to be similar. This smells like a more modern fresh take on the Tres Nuit scent. Mass appealing / inoffensive, good all around use. I like this one quite a bit.

Does not smell like Irish spring soap. The dry down is very powdery which contrasts is citrus start. Its honestly one of the best value fragrances ever. Some people may not like it but it smells amazing to me. 9.4/10

I like a lot. While it reminds me of Green Irish Tweed, it stands on its own as a great fragrance. This can be found at discounters for under 30 dollars and is excellent value at that price.

Legit smells like Irish Spring soap and I love it. NOTE: Do not buy unless you really enjoy the smell of the soap or soapy fragrances.

Banana Republic Grassland lives up to its name. In fact the only fragrance that smells grassier is Carolina Herrera's 212 Men. Grassland despite not having a grass note feels grassy. That said it fits into a fragrance market that is overloaded. It is an Irish Springs soap style fragrance. Yep, this is yet another fragrance that smells like Green Irish Tweed. That includes fragrances like Davidoff Cool Water, Coty Aspen, Giorgio Wings for Men, Rue 21 Carbon Elements, Armaf Tres Nuit, Armaf Le Parfait, Rasasi Egra, Lattafa Raghba and tons of others. That said, I think there is some character that makes Grassland stand out from the pack. Grassland opens with mint but it really has a grassy smell to it. In the several Irish Springs soap fragrances I've smelt, this is the most unique of it. There is also some bergamot and less apple and pomelo (an apple-like grapefruit.) The bergamot used gives me some vibes of Eternity for Men Summer 2020 edition. The mid is a mix of Ozonic notes and lavender with some petitgrain. The base is ambergris and sandalwood. To me, the mint, the lavender and the ozonic notes are the strongest notes. Grassland is an awesome casual spring, summer and fall fragrance. Before anyone asks, I consider it a fall scent (especially early fall) due to (American) football. I guess you can say soccer/football too, but that isn't a fall sport in America. Performance is the real downfall of Grassland. Now I know Wings over-performs but when I can wear Wings which is a more synthetic version but performs versus Grassland, I may spring for Wings more. Now I would wear Grassland for a date over Wings, but Grassland doesn't work for work days. I get 4-5 hours tops. Grassland I get a good fragrance and really nice for the discount rack price, but performance is an issue. I think it should be used instead of most of the other options I mentioned except maybe something like Chez Bond, Green Irish Tweed, Cool Water (due to the aquatic nature) and Wings for Men and Wings is for the performance. For this Grassland gets a 7.5 out of 10.

Update: preformance was trash!! Took it back. The review below me is very well put together 👇 GIT definitely dries down to like a "book" with a touch of leather & dry grass imo. This is a mix of alot of different fragrances vs just a clone of GIT. The opening hits you with the similar DNA of GIT. But then on the mid it transitions to a aromatic 'barbershop' scent that is reminiscent of like brut or something old school while still being green & fresh. I love the mid! Then on the full dry down the vanilla with green woodiness really shines threw. Performance seems lacking so far but the scent is really great. Might come back and update.

This is a great fresh fragrance that suffers from poor projection and sillage. I also have 78 Vintage Green, 17 Oud Mosaic, 90 Pure White and Linen Vetiver and they are all great fragrances but lack Umph. I would rate all (except 17 Oud Mosaic which I would rate 4/10 because the fragrance is not very good) 6/10 because of this issue. However, if you can handle 16 sprays these fragrances may be for you. In that case I would rate them 8/10 (except 17 Oud Mosaic, 5/10) I picked these up for ~ $35/ea for 75ml on The Perfume Spot. Other sites are charging $70+ and I would not purchase these for that price.

The longer you have this fragrance the stronger n longer lasting it gets. Have had mine now for about 2 years n 6 sprays last all day long. Beautiful green scent n very well balanced green notes. Has cool water, green irish tweed vibes but goes into a different direction with the mint note. I have to say it you like the green style of scent this one is right up your alley. Give it some time the longevity will get better. Scent smell like you are running through a minty green wet forest after a rain day.

Opens similarly to Apen/Cool Water. The drydown is where this begins to do its own thing and that thing is quite lovely. It’s a bit green, slightly sweet but ultimately just pleasantly fresh and clean. Really I don’t know what there is not to like about this. The performance leaves a bit to be desired, but for a $20 fragrance it’s not bad at all. You can be a bit heavy handed with this one and that may help with longevity. Blind buy safe if all that sounds good to you.

Lovely opening which lasts 10 mins, after that it’s dry down is a 1:1 clone of Irish Spring bar soap from the early 90’s. After an hour (tops) on me, it’s a skin scent. Certainly not a bad smell, it’s quite nice if you want something very light that makes you smell clean. It’s gonna be my gym scent. Certainly won’t offend anyone, if they smell it at all. Or good for “date night” or NFLX&chill, or whatever you kids call it these days.

The opening is an aromatic green apple scent like V&R Spicebomb Nightvision but the drydown definitely heads toward the Creed Green Irish Tweed direction, which is to say, nostalgic and ozonic. You don't smell sexy or sophisticated in a scent like this but you smell nice. And sometimes nice is what I'm going for. Can't speak to the longevity but I trust the other reviewers so just spray a lot ok?

A less complex PDM Greenley but similar freshness & greeness with a touch more airiness to it. It says EDP but the concentration must be on the low side because it behaves more like an EDT so its nice for the gym as the sillage isnt overwhelming for a crowd. Considering it was 1/5th of the cost of PDM there is a ton of value here.

I too get the Coolwater/Tres Nuit/Aspen vibe. Definitely in the same family. For 20 bucks its worth it just for the cool looking bottle. Update: After it dries I start to get some Drakkar Noir / Lomani Pour Homme fresh shaving cream vibes... still a winner for 20 bux.

A very curious green scent, I love how it is not one of those sharp green fragrances that punch you in the face. It almost has a laundry detergent smell to it. I got this at my plug Burlington for 12. Overall very good for the price if you like green scents

Just arrived and I've never smelled anything quite like it. Evokes images of a damp, sunlit meadow in springtime with stretches of clean, recently turned earth. It isn't lively but it smells alive. Somewhat resembles Aspen but much better.

You'll love the opening. It initially comes across as being in the same ballpark as GIT and its dupes as opposed to being just another dupe. The further it dries down, the further to develops into a creamier version of Tres Nuit.

Instead of being loud or overly green, Grassland feels soft and natural. It smells like fresh air drifting across an open field, making it one of the most relaxing fragrances in the collection.

I blind-bought this as I've been wanting to try Green Irish Tweed but don't feel like shelling out the dough at the moment. The wife and kids somewhat enjoyed it, but this is probably a no-go for me. I haven't worn it on my skin yet, but I didn't get much grassy-freshness, like at all (I love vetiver and grassy scents). Cool Water has that soapy/shower gel 'zing' to it in the opening, whereas Grassland is a cheap-smelling apple/laundry sheet bomb. It does smell "fresh" and would be a good summertime daily driver if you're into this sort of thing. But, as PaddyOhFraiche said below - it smells cheap to me; like a middle-class high school boy with no knowledge of colognes but who is trying to stay "fresh" would bath in this. I think I will regift this to one of my younger brothers, whose birthdays fall in the spring and summer. I've said it in other reviews, but I'm really not having much success in the "cheapie" world of perfumes. I may have to just stick to my trusted Guerlains and Diors of the world.

I don't know why people say this smells like Green Irish Tweed. To me, it really doesn't - or Cool Water, or Aspen. At all. I blind bought it based on that comparison, like I did with their fragrance, Metal Rain, because of the Silver Mountain Water comparisons (that one really does smell like SMW, even more than CDN Sillage). Grasslands smells more like sauvage, but with a green apple overload, than it does anything else, to me. Don't buy it thinking it 'smells like sauvage', though. It's just the first thing that comes to mind when I smell it. It's a smooth vaguely cinnamon-y, ambroxan green apple scent. I have a hard time believing it has oakmoss, like it says in the notes list. I don't have the box, so I can't check the ingredients for it. Oh, well. Not terrible, not great. Not even sure i'll use this as a room spray. I'm also not crazy about apple in fragrance. If you love apple, then you may very well like it more than me.

This a mediocre fragrance. When I close my eyes and simply take in the smell, it reminds me of a green, clean pharmacy or someone that would work at a pharmacy—and not necessarily as a pharmacist. I know this is weird, but that’s exactly what it reminds me of. I would rate this a 2 out of 5. I would also advise everyone to skip on this UNLESS you try on it on first and you absolutely love it. Do not blind buy like I did. It’s just not worth more than $5 USD. I feel like I wasted the $22 plus tax I paid at Burlington. It has no sillage. It has very weak performance. I suppose this is to be expected out of a cheap fragrance. But with these Banana Republic fragrances are total surprises. Get 78 Vintage Green, Tobacco & Tonka Bean (my favorite), or Metal Rain. All the rest are totally forgettable.

First time wearing since buying! I decided to put this on after a shower just before bed... this does have a very clean, maybe screechiness to it, to me, I’d say this is very much so masculine. I’ve never tried Irish tweed so I can’t say if it smells of it. Okay, so I think this has quite a good performance as I did spray it about four hours ago woke up in the night and I can still smell it on me.... (Abit) not strong though.... I would say if you don’t like them fresh tingly, smelling type fragrance says this is not something that you should probably go for It is nice, but I wouldn’t say I am going to be rushing to wear this again would probably give this to my partner....

As others have noted, another fragrance in the line of Green Irish Tweed and Cool Water before it. With similar note composition for the three, the primary differentiator for me is overall quality and robustness. GIT is far and away the most robust and pleasant, then Grassland and CW thereafter, though almost in its own lane as an EDT. As much as GIT is hands down the best of the three, Creed frags are notoriously overpriced and I don't think it's ~5x as good as Grassland. All that said though, given the nature of the fragrance, I would probably just buy Cool Water or a reproduction. It's not interesting enough to drop ~$70 on.

This was a blind buy on a whim at my local Burlington, since they allow returns on fragrances. That being said, I'm gonna have to return this one. It just smells green and very soapy, like Irish Spring bar soap. The performance is so poor that I can't even tell I sprayed it 30 minutes ago to gather my thoughts for this review. To give Grassland some credit, if super clean scents are your thing, then go for it. I bought this for $13 USD. It's a very "safe" purchase for the average occasion where you don't want to stand out. It just doesn't really do much for me.

So I just got it. It’s okay. More masculine leaning but I might be able to pull it off as unisex if I spray more citrus scents on top. This is barbershop/shaving cream meets Green Irish Tweed from Creed meets Aventus from Creed meets Greenly from PDM. It has an Aventus vibe in the opening (like 2 mins) then turns into barbershop/shaving cream 💈 and dries down to a weaker Green Irish Tweed. It’s a solid perfume especially for a guy. For me, I will wear it with more masculine outfits like pressed shirts and slacks. Not with flowery dresses.

Grassland Banana Republic is certainly unisex and I do understand the comments of it being reminiscent to Creed's Green Irish Tweed. There is a scratchiness to my nose with this fragrance especially within the first hour. I cannot specifically pick out the notes, just that it comes across as fresh, green, and similar to an herbal hand soap. The soapiness makes this too generic for me. I would not recommend this one if you are looking for a signature scent or for something unique.

After having this and experimenting with layering, I have to say this was definitely not for me. With that being said, it smells actually nice for someone that enjoys an aftershave type of vibe. Don't listen to anyone that says it smells like cool water. Absolutely not. It does not smell like green Irish tweed... Absolutely not. It literally smells like aftershave. It's very fresh though. To me it smells like something from the colonial days.

I am 95% anosmic to this! 😔. I have to use all my might to get a faint whiff of this. I get compliments wearing this. Too bad I don't smell what they smell. 😑

Initial sprays it smells fresh green it starts leaning to a barbershop fougere fragrance. It was in the ballpark of Santa Maria Novella Quercia . I was like Woah . It's smooth and almost kinda creamy, just very smooth . But it starts to dry down and after a few minutes it totally changes . It loses everything that made the initial sprays smell great. It doesn't smell like GIT because it doesn't have sharper green notes. I can see the Irish spring soap dry down but it's like a cheap less fresh version.. I really can't put my finger on what the dry down smells like but I am not a fan. Definitely a return for me . Overall 4/10 it could be worse

Fyi this is not unisex (at all), so don't buy this if you like feminine or unisex feminine leaning fragrances. It smells sort of like Irish Spring bar soap. Not that it's soapy, that's just what it reminds me of. It's slightly sweet, and it's definitely green, but not necessarily grassy. I find that it performs well, so I don't think you'll have to over spray this. However, I do find it to be a little sharp.

I blind bought this for 20$ at my local Burlington. I am not a fan of this at all, it smells bad in my opinion... maybe I’ll let it sit for awhile and come back but we’ll see. I liked their dark cherry amber one they put out but the longevity on that one was bad,

Green aftershave. Its alright but way to masculine for me. Fresh minty sporty man.

I agree with the guy below me. The smell isn’t that great and I kinda just got it because of the price and the bottle which is such a beautiful color. The scent to me is a little funky. To me it smells like drenching yourself in Axe as a young adolescent boy right after PE class. It has some sort of sweaty funk to it. It is in no way, shape or form near the pure class, luxury & elegance of GIT. That comparison is absolutely absurdly fallacious. This smells ok, but I really just have it for the bottle & to complete my personal BR collection. Perhaps it can be used perfectly as a gym scent or just as a dumb reach. Edit: I can no longer lie to myself after a 2nd wear. This smells like ass & it’s just way too cheap smelling. Crazy because I love others from this house, but this one sucks. Don’t waste your money even if it’s only $20 bucks.

Cool Water meets Dylan Blue. Maybe in warmer weather I’ll get something other than that blue ambroxan an note. It was for my wife but she sees nothing unisex about it; I don’t smell any redeeming in it for me, that I don’t already have. UPDATE: Six months later and revisiting. I usually apply on collar towards shoulder and on the nape. If I apply on inside forearms the ambroxan blends behind. I can definitely pick up moss and sandalwood trailing in there. green-lavender--moss, well that just means fougere for me. And there is a green soapiness there. So no, not a typical blue abroxan. But I would still say it's and abroxan-fougere. And if you like Dylan Blue and the herbal/green of Cool Water, this is a good blend of the two. (Now days, I have and regularly use Armaf Tres Nuit).
