Barbour For Him - 2016

I was tempted to buy this amazing fragrance as I'd heard it was similar to my old fave Aramis Devin which is getting hard to find. I'm so glad I did. Crisp,green,resinous.Although the notes don't go into much detail,if you love a galbanum/oakmossy type...you'll love this. Very "green",initially but warms to fresh,chypre/vetiver/earthy type. Has a subtle sillage,but...on me,lasts a good few hours. I bought mine from The Fragrance Shop for only £25 for 100ml.as at 10/17. rrp.aprox.£65. If you're looking for a fresh,crisp scent with a subtle but good longevity,this is an amazing buy. I have spent a lot more in the past,that promise,but don't perform. p.s. The female version is also lovely...very similar to Mon Paris by YSL. May I just add:If you're looking for a gift,the bottle is very heavy quality,like a glass hip flask but in Barbour style pattern quilting,with snazzy click cap. Very impressive for the price. Also,you can see the amazing attention to details,inside the packaging etc..Again,Barbour style signature pattern check. Like Burberry but made with more care & less commercial mass non-concern.

Country, Classy, Walks. Barbour For Him EDT 2016 was my first designer blind buy, without even looking at the notes and I was happy with what I got. It's something different in my collection, bringing a syrupy sweetness with a woody musk that perfectly achieves Barbours goal of complimenting the British countryside. However its appealing scent dies out very quickly. Opening up with a rich syrupy sweetness, the fragrance feels classy and masculine with grapefruit, cardamom and pepper notes. The same scent remains for pretty much the whole drydown with a very consistent, yet linear profile. The woody musk makes it smell slightly boozey and there's some cinnamon in there for added spice. It feels refreshing yet warming at the same time. It has a familiarity about it and in my opinion, smells like a much better, modernised, One Million by Paco Rabbane. It's sophisticated and a typical masculine scent. It perfectly gives the vibe of a country club, smoking jackets, and welly boots. This a is a British outdoor, or country establishment King. It smells good, but for me, really doesn't last long. After 3 hours it starts to fade away and is almost gone completely after 5, it doesn't seem to stick to my clothes that great either. The trail is decent to start with and I've had a a couple of compliments but again, it fades fairly quickly. You need to unload it a bit to get the most out of it. So far I've only used this in Spring but I can see it working in the Autumn and Winter but maybe not so much Summer. It also works any time of day in the UK, so it could certainly be a solid signature scent for the british gentleman. It's perfect for countryside walks and BBQs, garden parties, or even festivals. The bottle perfectly fits the scent and is possibly one of my favourites to have owned. The glass is thick, cut with the same pattern found inside Barbour's famous coats, with a small metallic Barbour logo printed top centre. The same pattern can also be found on the simple yet nicely embossed olive green box. The lid is heavy and solid. It feels expensive and clicks into place with confidence. The overall shape of the bottle mimics a decanter crossed with a hip flask, and is incredibly fitting for the whiskey like, orangey-brown juice inside. The only thing I would say is that the atomiser is incredibly light and reserved, which means you need to give it a few extra sprays for maximum performance. This was a steal for me and it seems you can pick it up pretty cheap if you time it right as its now been discontinued and replaced by the 2021 EDP. I paid just £24 for 100ml which is awesome for a solid scent like this, especially if you're a gent residing in the UK countryside. The £65 RRP is a bit execcsive for how short lived it is so I personally wouldn't pay it, but it does feel quality and I do like having this as an option on my shelf. If you see it cheap, give it a try, I'd say anything under 50 quid. Solid, 7/10

Barbour for Him was an impulse purchase having seen 100ml going for £15.90 in an online sale. This was a complete blind purchase as although I loved the bottle, I was unable to find any review of this fragrance online - and even had to send in a request to Fragrantica to add this brand to their library - excellent customer service btw. The presentation of this fragrance is minimal, and yet the quality is well in keeping with this brand. The box feels solid and comes in a dark olive green with diamond embossed mock stitching on the sides, mimicking the internal stitching of a Barbour wax coat. The bottle is heavy and very handsome with its cut glass diamond pattern - again similar to the internal stitching of their coats - and has a lovely solid metal lid that firmly 'clicks' into place. Upon initial application, you are presented with a smooth, slightly sweetened citrus. This is layered over a slightly spicy (pink pepper) sea salt type smell that isn't very overpowering. The sweet citrus just stops short of being candy, but I can't help but think that this stage feels slightly unbalanced and a tad artificial. The citrus doesn't stay at the forefront for very long, but the saltiness gets stronger and an element of earthiness begins. This is never too strong and borders upon a slight vetiver before moving to the background, allowing the sea salt and very slight citrus to run the rest of the show until a faint musk is all that's left. The quality of the ingredients isn't initially noticeable, but as time ticks by you start picking up notes that exudes richness. I get roughly seven hours of longevity with moderate sillage. I understand what Barbour was trying to do with this fragrance. By itself, this is rather nondescript and far from a signature scent. But put into the context of wearing this alongside the somewhat strong smelling wax coats that Barbour are famous for, then this comes alive and has a ruggedness that is difficult to dislike. Whilst Barbour clothing brings the British countryside to the forefront, the saltiness this fragrance presents means I can't help thinking of the sea, or perhaps walking near an estuary or a coastal marshland. Overall I am delighted to have this fragrance in my collection, and it doesn't hurt in that my girlfriend really loves this on me (and she is very difficult to please). As a footnote, I'd like to mention that the saltiness reminds me of Tom Ford Oud Minérale minus the Oud - though I have only sampled this briefly so am far from an expert.

This is a very very underrated scent. Part of the issue here is the brand. Barbour is the lifestyle brand which is exactly the people that Blur were talking about in country house e.g. "she lives in a house, a very big house, in the countreee *yeah*". So its appeal is kind of limited unless tweed makes a resurgence bigger than racism in the UK. But the scent itself, drydown is a bit disappointing but the opening is very special. It smells faintly alcoholic which isn't quite my thing but its a very bold statement scent. There is something other than grapefruit in this at the start. But this is a kind of pep talk perfume. When you apply it, you really do appreciate the bottle on this one. Very solid and authoritative. Its meant to evoke the countryside, but it mainly evokes Countryfile. back to the dry down. So after an hour, this starts to fade a lot. You can still definitely smell it, but its not that bold scent anymore. But definitely very layered, I don't like violet notes much but that becomes prominent quick. Its not a bad thing here. But honestly, it becomes a very relaxed and calming smell afterwards due to those base notes. This makes the perfume one that i feel is a testament to the perfumer. I'd love to know who this was. Very luxurious but textured. It takes talent to get this right. This is a very very versatile scent. Definitely suitable for work but also outdoors. I think this definitely is a year round scent too. Today its 3C and its given me a lift, but if you're in 30C, this is still wearable even if youre probably not wearing anything much. This is not a bargain scent at the price point. but its superb value for money. Its more for the affluent 30 year old rather than the typical chavvy clubber (e.g. Burberry). If someone bought me this, i would be really pleased with them for their discerning taste. This is a "if you know, you know" kind of scent. Maybe i need to find a Barbour woman but i can't stand quilted jackets.

Got it for £20 at the fragrance shop last year. Used it as my daily fragrance at work for a while. It becomes a skin scent after like 30 minutes but it’s a nice scent

good value if you get it in the right shop very Fahrenheit and brut themes clean fresh woody

I don't know about outdoorsy but i'm getting a drydown of Mcqueen My Queen, the parma violets. Nice
