Barbour International For Her

I bought a part-used 100ml bottle of Barbour International from a private seller on eBay for the princely sum of £4.95 + £2.95 P&P. I spritzed some for my 27-year-old daughter to try - and she immediately said: "This smells like Tom Ford, Velvet Orchid". And you know what? She's right. It's not surprising either, given that the perfumes have a considerable number of notes in common: bergamot, mandarin orange, rum, jasmine, rose, black orchid, orange blossom, myrrh, sandalwood, vanilla, leather/suede and resin/balsam. I wonder if the two perfumes have perfumers in common? I can't find any information about BI, though; I'll come back and edit my review if I do. Barbour International has a subtle kick to it; it's spicier than Velvet Orchid, but is far less intrusive because its sillage is moderate, rather than room-filling (I am not being critical or negative about VO - I love it and would be very happy to receive it as a gift). Longevity of BI is also moderate. BI is no longer available through Barbour's website, but can still be found online. It's a hidden gem - if you like or love Velvet Orchid, BI is definitely a safe blind buy and (even at full retail price) is excellent value. Available only as an EDT, BI is Velvet Orchid "Light" for daytime use. One final word: The utilitarian appearance of the bottle is really... unfortunate... shall we say? It looks as if it should contain spray adhesive of the sort used by children when they're doing art or crafts (or fly spray). A message to whoever is responsible for its design: You are in the wrong profession.
