Barneys + Greg Lauren

Ever since I smelled this when I was very scared in the Las Vegas strip my first ever time at Barneys I was scared because this is where the rich people go but this is also where all the fragrances I love are so then again it doesnt seem to bad after all. I remember walking in and asking where the fragrances were and this kind lady said upstairs and soon enough I was there and emmidietly it was like i was in another woreld. I loved it so much. I remember actually seeing the bottle of this fragrance and thinking it was a broken bottle or something so i never tried it. I went through the frederic malle and le labo fragrances and asked for samples they gave me some and the guy kind of hurried me out of the store (probably saw what I was wearing) and in those samples was this fragrance. I remember getting outrageous by frederic malle (I liked that one alot) and ahs and ahse by chanel. Then I smelled this vanilla, tonka bean bomb and I loved it. For me this thing last forever, 24 hours with wifs of it every 15 minutes. After further testing I oddly enough get aromas of sweet milky creamy coconuts and coffe from this. I don't maybe the creamy texture of the vanilla gives me the coconut feel and the tonka "bean" gives me the coffee. Anyways my ex (girlfriend at the time) gave me a full bottle of this for our one year anniversary. I guess it's a shame how many memories of here are attached to this fragrance. There aren't that many reviews on this at all but I guess this is that one fragrance that just connects with me!

I love this. The sea salt makes the vanilla less pungent and I get so many compliments when wearing it. I thought the bottle was a sample-- it's very DIY. He actually makes each bottle by hand. Not obsessed with the bottle.

I don't get any of the sea / salt notes from this. But it's still really nice. It's a very rich vanilla, and i almost get a little hint of a boozy spicy note. Like a very grown up, unisex cotton candy and a bit of rum.

I am not always a fan of Vanilla fragrance, but this one seems doable for me. I do not get any sea notes, but that must be what drops down the sweetness factor, which can bother me about me about most vanillas.

The bottle is a little work of art, and based on the paint-splashed and rough-n-tumble scratchy appearance, I expected a rougher fragrance. But this is very much a gourmand — straightforward and non-challenging vanilla. I enjoy having this in my collection but wish it had more personality.

I first read about the fragrance in a December 2013 issue of Fortune magazine in their holiday Gift Guide as this was Greg Lauren's first fragrance which was done in collaboration w/ Barneys & Master Perfumer Ralf Schwieger. I was at Barney's a week or so later & decided to sample: WOW! What a beautiful fragrance... & that was only my initially reaction just from the opening as this even gets better. At first spray, you get of a blast of a creamy vanilla, with the tonka bean adding a gourmand-ish boozy quality. You also get a slightly salty aquatic vibe that really works nicely with the sweetness. Before I sampled, I first read there was a marine accord in the scent, which is unusual to have in a vanilla based fragrance (but it works so well... I'll get to!). Coincidentally, I had an aquatic/marine based fragrance sprayed on my other arm & I can clearly smell a similar sea note in both of them. You realize the salty-like sea note is what is taming the vanilla, giving it its masculinity & easily making this a unisex fragrance. I wouldn't call it a "dirty" or "spicy" vanilla like some other vanilla-based fragrances, but rather a slightly "salty vanilla". The complexity of vanilla & tonka in combination with the marine notes all work in harmony together creating an intoxicating & sensual sweet 'n' salty scent: GENIUS! Overall, I think this is a masterpiece. Perfectly balanced for gourmand fragrance lovers but subdued enough for someone looking for a light, non-overpowering nor clawing fragrance as some sweeter fragrances may be... it's still subtle enough for any occasion. Longevity rocked as this lasted on my skin easily over a full day even a little after I showered. Plus, the bottle is a one-of-a-kind work of art (as seen above). Greg Lauren personally worked on & signed the bottles himself. You can see the video on his website... very cool. I'll be purchasing myself a bottle very soon, but first will be dropping hints for people to get me as a Christmas gift lol. Definitely worth a try... & if you're a fragrance hobbyist, a rare limited edition collectors item.

The main accord that I smell in Greg Lauren EdP is a salty caraway-vanilla, which smells very similar to one of the main accords in Hypnotic Poison by Dior. Unfortunately that's almost all there is to this fragrance. It smells fine, but it has almost no depth or development. In fact I'm kind of amazed that this is the final fragrance that was put on the market. This smells like it should have been an extremely early rough draft before other notes were added in. It's disappointing because this fragrance was developed for Barney's New York, so I'm sure that the sky was the limit as far as available materials and artistic freedom. They even had master perfumer Ralf Schweiger working on it. But it's just too simple and uninteresting to justify a $200 price tag. Save yourself $150 and just buy Hypnotic Poison instead. It's much more complex and well-done. Cool bottle, though. Honestly that's the best thing about this fragrance.

If anyone ever has a bottle of this they wish to sell please contact me. One of my favorite scents of all time. This is a very unusual scent that I can see might not work for all but definately works with my chemistry. I am curious to see what it is like in the winter as heat definately seems to play a role with this one. Can seem too salty at times.

They put some samples of this in my bag the other day at Barney's. I wore it today and wish I didn't. It smells like a cheap designer men's cologne. Lots of vanilla and tonka. Very generic and cloying. I cannot believe this costs $195.

One of my absolute favorite scents . As soon as I found out they were running out at barneys I bought 5 bottles and I am on my last one . If anyone has any left let me know. I still hope they reissue this amazing fragrance !!!
