Ambre Maquis

From start to finish, you are delicately - yet noticeably - wrapped in the warm, sensual glow of amber. This rich golden sent radiates from your skin and clothes all day long and will, inevitably, gander some attention. Never have I received so many compliments as when I’m wearing this gorgeous scent. The careful mix of amber and sandalwood is as exotic as it is oddly nostalgic; you will find yourself being stopped regularly by friends and strangers alike who just *have* to ask you for the name of the perfume you’re wearing! A true scent staple and an ideal signature scent, this fragrance never disappoints. Highly recommended.

I adore this perfume. I sampled it in one of those achingly hipster shops that sell instagrammable home wares, and wandered off to have brunch, writing it off as a bit too punchy. It didn't stop nagging at me throughout my meal, demanding attention and within an hour I was in love. I bought a 10ml sample bottle for silly money and then a full bottle and I would never want to be without it now. I'm no good at describing individual notes, and tend to think of perfumes as moods. This one is cosy but invigorating, like a blustery walk by the sea while wrapped up in a soft scarf, followed by a hot chocolate with whipped cream in a warm cafe. Love love love.

Beautiful, easy to wear amber scent softened by a natural rose note, which makes Ambre Maquis seem a little different in the world of amber scents. Anyway, I am a sucker for this profile. And EDT? On a full day of wearing my manufacturers sample....quite surprising in the performance department! I have many amber scents, and it’s the season to wear them, and I guess in my case, Ambre Maquis is going on my Christmas wish list. Edit 05_05_25 I now own it, my update is that this easy to wear in all seasons. Kind of remarkable considering this recipe would typically mean it works only in the cooler months. Nice surprise.

This is the best amber I've ever smelled in my life. It's not too heavy and cloying, but I wouldn't call it a freshie, either. It's very well blended, woody, and warm. So incredibly comforting. This is an EDT formulation, but would you believe that I applied this 20 hours ago on un-moisturized skin, and it's still lingering? Admittedly, 20 hours later, it's mostly a skin scent but it's still most definitely there. The deep dry down is a gorgeous woody and resinous base with sweet patchouli. I bought the travel size but am getting the 100ml as soon as I can.

After smelling this perfume in store a number of times I finally picked up a 10ml travel size. After using this for a week all I can say is WOW. It is a gorgeous amber and wood powerhouse that is both sexy and cozy. Somehow is smells incredibly familiar yet unique and complex. I spray this on skin at 7am each morning and can still smell it on my wrist in bed in the evening. I could wear this all year round, perfect for autumn - spring and even a summer evening out. Looking forward to picking up 100mL of this fragrance and exploring the rest of the range.

This is the perfume a man who enjoys whiskey would wear. He is there after a long day at work probably as CFO. He probably doesnt know much about perfume but his wife has quite an eye (or nose for that matter) and she bought this one to him. I think I am in love. This is classy somewhere between Suave old school mixed with quasi hipster vibe.. Do check the profile of person and their perfume choices before taking their opinion seriously.

Whenever I spray this on my skin it feels like I’m wearing a mohair jumper - think Nastassja Kinski in pink mohair in Paris Texas. Effortless sex appeal. It’s a warm and juicy tangerine amber. Full bodied and intense, the fragrance projects well and lasts and lasts! It has a mature, dusty rose note that I really enjoy with the sandalwood. Totally unisex and perfect for autumn winter.

wow this one is gorgeous. as a lover of amber, rose and labdanum, i am loving this. it opens with amber and resins and a hint of rose. it's primarily amber (slightly powdery), elemi and labdanum. there is a hint of greenery from patchouli and a brightness from the tangerine. the greenness gets a bit stronger over time but doesn't dominate. i love that aspect here.

I was never a fan of ambers until I received a bottle for Xmas. OMG I AM OBSESSED! this is such a warm, delightful perfume, a real compliment getter. I also have the shower gel and it lingers on the skin and makes your bathroom smell divine. BUY IT SIS!

I hate most amber/spicy amber but this one is pretty good.

Wow. Amber done beautifully. Not too heavy and thick. Deep resinous quality at the heart with some fresh tobacco, citrus and rose dancing around it. Maybe some raisin? Lovely caramelised, brown sugar sweetness, but not sickly-sweet. Very healthy dose of sandalwood too. Fantastically balanced. Super inviting and warm, this is easy to wear and easy to love. An excellent winter's reach. A little dusty/musty for my taste. My style leans a bit fresher and lighter, which is the only reason this isn't a 'love' for me. But, for lovers of warm fragrances, I HIGHLY recommend this. VERDICT: Bastide does it again. Masterful.

A dense syrupy amber dominated scent. The sandalwood note is lovely here. Feels raw, unrefined. As with most ambers a little goes a looong way.

i LIKE amber. Yet, this gave me a heinous, undetterable headache. It smells chemical & medicinal; not in a sexy way

This is probably the most masculine-leaning amber I own. It's both transparent and full-bodied at once. The rose and patchouli are dominant. I actually ordered this thinking it was another scent. I had tested this brand's amber lotion while on vacation abroad, which was more of a traditional amber. I ordered Ambre Maquis, not knowing it was a different scent altogether and was very surprised and a little disappointed at first, but eventually grew to enjoy it quite a bit. I started with a travel size and ended up ordering the full bottle. It's a very dry, woody, animalic fragrance and very unique as far as ambers go thanks to a rose thats as dominant as the woods. Lasting power and sillage are phenomenal and it will make an impression (my bottle is a few years old so I can't speak to any recent reformulations if they've occurred). I agree with the review by Stalal, I definitely could see a whiskey loving gentleman rocking this scent. I'm very much a feminine woman and I feel like I totally get away with this, but if I didn't know it was unisex, I'd probably guess it had a pour homme label. I'm wearing it today while drinking black cinnamon tea and the combination of scents is fantastic, so I may have to make a roll on with some diluted cinnamon oil to try layering. If you love dryer, woody ambers and enjoy a loud rose, this is worth a try.

I’ve always avoided amber dominated scents because they’ve always seemed so heavy- handed and blunt, overly sweet and thickened with too much vanilla. This is none of those things and all the better for it. While I wouldn’t call it a light fragrance, it isn’t a chemical fog horn and most notably, it doesn’t appear to have any vanilla! There’s some orange (the company says tangerine) in the top notes, some crisp and clear rose and labdanum lending a leathery touch, all leading to a touch of modern patchouli, sandalwood and lightly powdered, resinous amber accord. It feels carefully put together with solid raw perfumery materials. Longevity is terrific; it wears like an eau de parfum but is labelled an eau de toilette. Keep that in mind during application. Definitely a keeper!

I love amber but find that many times it is destroyed by adding gourmand notes that then convert it into a syrupy, headache inducing bomb. This is my third Bastide Aix en Provence sample and I have loved them all! They truly capture the French perspective on perfume with high quality, well crafted and chic smelling fragrances. Vanilla is joyously ABSENT and the essence of the natural notes is exuberant and sumptuous. Ambre Maquis is warm and woody, sophisticated and smart with a soft coziness that embraces rather than smothers as so many amber perfumes tend to do. I'm charmed!

This is not my favorite amber. It's a heavyish amber with floral notes, strong labdanum and high, bright wood notes on my skin. It comes off my wrist as very perfume-y in a loudly obnoxious way, though it's nice closer in. This might be better in cold weather, as I tried it in summer. Just not smooth or gentle enough.

I tried this and it is such a subtle, sensual scent. The fragrance was consistent from application to dry down. I would wear this during the day, anytime or anywhere.

This is a huge compliment getter. I'd describe it as Angel Eau Fraiche. It's a sheer, modern version of the top notes of Angel by Mugler.
