Calypso Clementine

I love these inexpensive body mists from B&BW. I use the body washes and body lotions under my finer fragrances, and the body mists over them. I use the Clementine with my Like This by Etat Libre d’Orange. I used it today with Coco Mademoiselle, and it was beautiful. It also weirdly works with Guerlain’s Mitsouko, although B&BW’s Peach Bellini is the absolute GOAT with Mitsouko. I only recently discovered how nice B&BW’s scented products are. I was bored waiting for a movie at the mall one night, and just kinda wandered into B&BW to kill some time. I don’t know, I guess I always assumed it was a store for people who would never spend any real money on fragrances, or people looking for affordable gifts for Mother’s Day, etc.. I started smelling samples, and my mind immediately went to how nicely many things would layer with perfumes I already have, and allow me to customize and experiment.

I both have the mist and the EDP version. The EDP version lasts much longer compared to the mist version. When I tried the EDP, thou, it only lasted about 2–3 hours, which is fine for me since I got it on sale lol. Just like my review of the mist version, it doesn't smell synthetic, and it literally smells like an orange peel. But the EDP is much more intense because the mist smells kind of a watered-down version. But still, I'm enjoying it and would love to complete the whole collection of Calypso Clementine.

This is my favorite scent out of the new BBW body care scents released in January 2024. How does it smell? It has a familiar profile: breezy, bright, fresh, lightly sweet, citrus profile. It reminds me of some more expensive scents from department stores. It has a classy quality - nothing too sweet or too fruity. I wouldn't mind wearing it to the office. It would be perfect for summer or spring. Men could even pull it off. Well done. I am planning to get a travel spray and a body wash.

Do you like Phlur’s Tangerine Boy? You will like this one too. I got it with a $20 off coupon recently, and I’m glad I did. It’s not a “perfect spot-on dupe” for TB, but if you’re a guy, gal or non-binary pal on a budget and you enjoy this “fragrance DNA”, you’ll enjoy it. You get the double dose of citrus with the driftwood. Refreshing without smelling like a fruit salad.

Compared to some of Bath and Body Works' other orange-dominant fragrances such as Mango Mandarin, Sparkling Orange Spritz-- Calypso Clementine I would say is an improvement in that it smells more high-end with some depth. It opens as your typical bright, punchy, clementine note reminiscent of those Cuties little oranges from the supermarket. But then dries down to a nice clean woodsy with a little bit of floral from the neroli blossom. Some would say Calypso Clementine leans more masculine. To me it is a unisex frag that would go great with layering some feminine perfumes. I haven't worn this yet (still winter and very cold here where I live) so I can't completely attest to its performance, but on my tester strip Calypso Clementine lasted all day. Now, I have seen some people compare Calypso Clementine to Bath and Body Works Orange Sapphire, even claiming it is a repackage, and I have to respectfully disagree. I now own both and Orange Sapphire smells wayyy better in my opinion. Instead of a punchy tart orange it offers a smoother, sexier blood orange that is well-blended with other citrus fruits, florals and other notes, and there is a hint of warmth (patchouli), maybe a hint of syrupy sweetness like honey, but yeah there is no woodiness/cologne vibes detected to me. Orange Sapphire is just better and I wish they would bring it back instead. But if you are deeply missing Orange Sapphire, Calypso Clementine can be a *reasonable* alternative.
