Mahogany Woods

I would like to thank everyone in this review thread, just blind bought the "Fragrance World" clone "Hard Wood" after reading about it. You all ROCK!! I can't wait to get this in-house!! Special shout out to @MKPUNK for suggesting this frag on the forum! 06OCT23 REVIEW: Whoa boy...this is smooooooooth!! I wasn't expecting this level of sophistication and smoothness. Opens up with a light citrus and amber kick that is VERY refreshing. Then the Clary Sage, Tonka Bean and Mahogany or Sandalwood kick in and give it an even smoother feel. I can't say that I specifically picked up on the Mahogany or Cognac since I don't know what either of those smell like...but the sandalwood gives this a creamy and slightly woody tone to the fragrance. The Bourbon Vanilla gives it a sweetness that makes the whole composition alluring...but not playful. They really knocked this one outta the park! The composition on this "Hard Wood" definitely works! Longevity on my skin with 12-16 sprays total was about 6 hours to skin scent though...so carry a travel sprayer if you plan on smelling like this all day. I got a few compliments while picking up breakfast this morning by two different women at two different stores. But don't forget...how you look and carry yourself makes more of a difference than anything. How you smell is just the icing on the cake! 07OCT23 UPDATE: This fragrance has helped me figure out why I've had a longstanding disagreement with the note of "Amber" in fragrances!!!!!!! With Amber fragrances....if I sleep with them on, the morning after, I smell like I've been...faintly sweaty...or as posh women say, "Glistening". The sheets and my pillow smell like I had a hot-flash in the night, or the fan stopped working and I didn't wake up from the heat. "Amber" is apparently the natural scent of my body! I can smell that EXACT SAME NOTE when I do not shower overnight. I always wondered why my wife says that she loves the smell of my "Natural Scent" when to me it smells faintly......sweaty. Now I get it...I now understand why I never liked "Amber"...it's because it reminds me of ME! Sadly, the mental association I have with my personal body scent is one of embarrassment and negativity thanks to my mother. Thats why I never believed my wife when she told me how great I smell naturally because of childhood trauma. I will have to work on accepting my natural body scent as something good and not bad...and similarly, the long dry-down of "Amber" fragrances. I will also have to explore synergistic usages of "Amber" fragrances in the future... Wow...who would have thought a fragrance would help me get to the bottom of some childhood trauma. I didn't even need to bring this up to the therapist!!!

Bath & Body Works Mahogany Woods is a bit of a mystery scent wise but oh so good. E from Simply Put Scents named it in his top 10 bargain fragrances for the Fall. It is from the house of Bath & Body Works, a house that puts out fairly cheap eau de cologne fragrances for men. Their Ocean was my first scent and I love it, even if it is rather light. Mahogany Woods is a woody scent in the opening with a heavy mahogany which is rare for most scents but with its bourbon vanilla dry down, it turns nearly gourmand-ish. This so unique for a scent. I hear a number of A*Men Pure Havane comparisons but it is not at all smokey or have a tobacco note to it. Instead, it is clean. Not in a soapy way because it is rather boozy, though not in a overly way like say 212 VIP (not that I hate the smell of that fragrance) so it is more of a work-friendly booze scent. Even for a school, like me. Bath and Body Works is one of my favorite houses and this fragrance more than lives up to the hype it has earned for me. The smell lasts about 10-12 hours on a good day in ideal conditions with becoming a skin scent at the 3-4 hour mark. Sillage is pretty good too despite it being an edc rather than an edt or edp. It is an all day scent for fall and winter but because of the edc, it could be used even in summer if done very lightly. Overall Mahogany Woods is a scent I am glad that Simply Put Scents turned me onto. I have to give this scent a 8.5 out of 10. While I love that it turns nearly into a gourmand, it is a little too vanilla heavy for my liking.

Sweet mahogany mother of god. To preface, I have never loved woody scents too much, at least where it’s the main focus. I originally thought this would be similar to something like Autumn Leaves from MM, which... literally just smells like leaves. But when I first smelled this, I was instantly captivated by a mix of cognac, vanilla, tonka bean, and just the perfect amount of mahogany. I feel like the embodiment of a warm house in an autumn forest, with candles lit, blankets out, maybe a grandad lighting a pipe on the porch, and hugs all around. Naturally, I ain’t ever had that shit growing up. I got suburban Detroit ranch, dog slobber on the kitchen floors, torn carpet, and my dad hitting a vape in the living room. Maybe they’ll make a fragrance capturing that one day. Regardless, this is just spectacularly unique. The tiny hit of chili pepper spice on top of vanilla sandalwood/mahogany is what truly seals the deal for me, giving it that slight push of masculinity I wasn’t expecting with this. Was lucky to find this where I did. Anyways, let me know if I can find that suburban Detroit dog slobber vape fragrance anywhere around.

I had never heard of this fragrance, and because it is BBW, I wouldn't have cared even if I had. I know, fragrance snob. However, I bought some fragrances and the seller included a small sample of this. Out of all the things I bought, which included a variety of well-known greats, this one came up consistently as being one of the best, most pleasant of the bunch. I told the seller as much, who replied, "Mahogany Woods is an incredible fragrance. It is one of my most complimented fragrances that I own." I decided to search for it, only to find it wasn't a BBW throw away, but a discontinued gem with insane prices online. I held off on buying it, but eventually found a bottle for $100 shipped. Not gonna lie, it is a hefty price for what it is. However, I think worth it (to me) because there is nothing quite like it that I have in my collection. Some things that are gourmand and warm/boozy come to mind: Ferragamo Uomo, D&G The One , Jazz Club, Zara Rich/Warm/Addictive, Eau des Baux, Rochas Man, Choco Musk, Chocolate Greedy, etc. But nothing is quite like this. It is more gourmand than D&G The One but more cologny than Rochas Man.

Got this in a swap years ago. Here's my experience during my first 5 wearings over a 3 month period... 1. Not bad. Not great. But enjoying. 2. Damn that dry down is really nice. This is growing on me. 3. On a train. Damn someone smells amazing. Wow I think it's me. Hour later in office. It is me. F*CK this is good. 4. Date night. Wife says "Now I love that one." Did you spend half our mortgage on that one? I can tell it's expensive. (S 5. Waitress. "I'm sorry but do you mind telling me what cologne you have?" (Maybe she wanted a big tip lol). 6. Wore yesterday. I think I'm addicted. I'm going to get another bottle. Although I won't buy a backup because this fragrance went all viral. Prices are crazy $250 average. Apparently I wasn't the only one that got addicted. Oh well I'll just use sparingly until the "hype" goes down I hope. As for the scent itself. Others explain it better. I just wanted to tell my experience on how this grew on me until I craved the whiffs. There's something in the sh*t. If you never smelled it don't buy it. Too expensive. I'm starting to think the high prices are those that need their sniff fix.
