Sea Island Cotton

There are some fragrances that are on the market to make a statement; there are others that, in the opinion of many, are essentially non-fragrances, there to cater to the crowd that prefers to smell clean and inoffensive. I enjoy perfumes from both schools, but most days I want a scent that makes me feel comfortable, pretty, and put together, even if I am just wearing yoga pants and a sweatshirt. Sea Island Cotton is one of those fragrances. Along with Moonlight Path, Sea Island Cotton has quickly become a daily, "just for me" scent. SIC is the ultimate calming scent, in my opinion. Yes, it does have that "clean laundry" vibe, which is actually what kept me from giving it a real shot for a long time. I can't imagine there are many people that don't enjoy the scent of good, clean laundry, but to wear a perfume that smells of laundry isn't always quite as appealing. The initial impression of Sea Island Cotton really does smell of clean laundry, but it doesn't necessarily stay that way. The citrus in the top notes blend beautifuly with the linen and flowers so that they aren't sharp or overly powerful - they give the fragrance a bright freshness. In the middle I think I detect a bit of the freesia and maybe a tiny touch of jasmine, still wrapped in that soft, clean, cottony linen. The final dry down is powdery and fresh, sweet without the candy and absolutely smooth. This is a different kind of "intoxicating" - it doesn't scream sex appeal or desire; instead, it breathes gentle comfort. It may sound corny, but it is so true. While powdery scents can be heavy and oppresive in summer heat SIC remains light enough to be refreshing even on hot summer days. In fact, I would say that this fragrance is ideal for those days. Overall, a gorgeous fragrance - it is not complex, doesn't require any effort to wear, doesn't feel the need to impress. I feel feminine, calm, and clean when wearing it. This perfume has a funny story with me. Basically, when I was 12, my older cousin gave me a mini hand lotion I ritually would use on my hands every morning for about a year. It had a pleasant scent but I never cared about brands at that age, so once it was done, I didn't bother to buy more, so I couldn't find the fragrance for a while. This EDT was regifted to me by my mom many years later and it's exact same scent as the lotion, which I figure was from B&BW. I always talk about the packaging in my reviews, and the one that I have is a bit different than pictured. It's closer to the new bottles with the big, clear caps, but there's no picture on my bottle. It's simple and classy and overall, just fine, nothing too special. The fragrance, however, is very special. I've literally smelled nothing else like it. Sea Island Cotton smells just as the name suggests. There are some perfumes that literally take me to another place, and this one places me on a small, sandy beach, a white beach house behind me and a cool breeze wafting through fresh, clean, white cotton sheets to my left, the sun shining down overhead and the water reaching out to the horizon. If that doesn't describe this fragrance, I don't know what could. It's aquatic, it smells like fresh, clean cotton sheets, it's perfect for a summer day. My only gripe with this fragrance is that it doesn't last too long, but it's such a light fragrance, it's not too surprising. I still love it and just keep it in my purse if I go out. Overall, this is one of my signature scents. I recommend it to anyone who loves a fresh, clean fragrance that isn't citrusy or sickly. 10/10 from me, though I am biased. xx

This is actually cleaner and softer than CLEAN Men is. I added it to my WANT list tentatively after so many great reviews(BluDreamer7806 being the best!) but ever the sceptic I had to try it myself and when I did I was right up there with her... It starts out with a fresh breeze of pear and citruses(succulent blood orange stands out to me)touched with a slight hint of greens and flowers but this wind is only the messenger and it leaves in its wake the softest subtlest blend of florals I've ever smelled. The watery jasmine and cyclamen complement the dry orange blossom and sweet green muguet perfectly and the cotton flower note is reminiscient of laundy on the line warming in the sun, kissed with these scents. The drydown is very comforting with the clean white musk and the powder covering the delicate vanilla and sandalwood. How can they say this is for women when we men like to smell soft and clean sometimes too? Sillage: okay Longevity: quite good Overall: 3.75/5 I was always a Body Shop fan until this and Rainkissed Leaves completely changed my old opinion of B&BW. I USED to think that this is where people who couldn't afford "real" perfumes got their scents but no more. I'm a believer 100%, especially with the release of four new men's scents this year. They are worth checking out..

Okay, so it's a bit like the scents in current popular cleaners and air fresheners, but hey - I really love wearing it. Kasku's description, as well as the name, is right on - it smells like when I hung my clothes on the line when I lived in South Florida. The citrus (I can't pick out the pear) makes me feel uplifted, the cotton-clean-soapiness makes me feel clean and light (I don't get so much powder, like in Moonlight Path)...and just a little touch of sweet. The base notes are not overbearing, it's a good balance. Lasts well, but not so strong to make anyone at work complain. Parfait. Note: I realized that this reminds me of a perfume I used to love called Mandarin Vanilla by Shiara, especially after wearing it all day. Later update: Just got DK's Cashmere Mist, and this is REALLY similar. I see where B&BW got their inspiration!

I own the 2.5 ounce eau de toilette and i LOVE IT!! It's perfect to wear anytime of the day and blends well with a lot of my fresh fragrances. It's smells just like freshly washed clothes and who does not want to smell fresh. I usually wear it around the house after i shower when i don't plan on going anywhere. It has a very good silage and longevity, especially when you spray it on your clothes. The fragrance mist has good performance as well for those who don't want to pay $50+ for a limited edition bottle. It's a very inoffensive fragrance and could be worn anytime of the day,anytime of the year. Scent: 10/10 Performance: 9/10 Packaging: 8/10

I've had this for probably 6 or 7 years, and every time I try it, I'm surprised at how much I like it! Somehow I always misremember the scent as too harsh, but then I try it once to mix things up a little and I always like it! Fresh, clean water and soft cotton, and a light, downy white musk on drydown. Simple, but effective. It sort of reminds me of a slow, foggy, rainy Saturday afternoon. Not crisp and watery like a cucumber, but like a thick mist or fog: soft, gentle, wet and cold at first, but still somehow a little warm. I don't know, I guess I'm waxing poetic. TL;DR: I liked it. It's light, clean, very musky but a light skin musk.

I think this is the best simple and inoffensive smell I've ever come across with. It does smell like clean laundry but with a dash of floral. It smells so simple and I swear I never thought the smell of fresh laundry could make me feel so feminine, calm and happy :) I hope this never gets discontinued as I always want to have a bottle of this until I die. There are certain occasions or places when a simple and pleasant smell like this is all you should wear so as not to offend anyone. My only complaint is longevity is pretty weak. It lasts only about an hour on me and I often find myself reapplying several times a day.

I have worn this for many years...I think I first purchased it or a variation of it from BBW twelve years ago? could it be that long? I bought it when I was pregnant with my daughter and needed something in the summer to feel refreshed and this was it. It is refreshing and light and smells like clean linen. Its a great step of the shower feel fresh scent. Whenever I don't know what to put on, this goes on. Doesn't last long though. Too light. But it makes me feel happy and calm. Edited: This site says this came out in 2007, but there was definitely a cotton blossom or some other scent that was the predecessor to this.

This is one of my favorites. It's soft and clean, like snuggling with a blankie when I was little. For that reason, I think I find it comforting. But it's not all powder and laundry soap either. There's a subtle complexity to this making you feel like you're sitting on your beach front porch with a cup of tea wrapped in a freshly washed blanket first thing in the morning, watching the waves break on the shore and hearing the gulls call. It's an aptly named fragrance where I pick up the sea air as much as I pick up the freshly washed cotton. Good stuff.

Smells like sea world to me but not in a bad way or a gross fishy way, in an aquatic nostalgic way, Reminds me when I was a little kid, taking a bubble bath, has this nostalgic vibe to it, very clean and fresh, soapy, a little bit powdery, smells a little bit like fresh laundry, im so happy i found THE nostalgic memories scent, may be my new favorite bath and body works scent, would layer great with my Glow By Jennifer Lopez Perfume don't know why bath and body works stopped selling this, such a classic clean scent!,

I totally love this fragrance, clean, musky, soapy, floral, powder, marine fresh, all rounded and blended so nothing is harsh all softly working together. I have the body spray just wish it lasted longer on me fades very quickly. Haven't been able to find the EDT..This is the type of fragrance I remember wearing for the summer break as a young teenager and feeling fresh, and soapy clean, and free for the summer, it reminds me of wearing Yardley Sea jade a popular fragrance back then.

My second favorite from bbw,aside from dark kiss, it just smells very clean,nothing extraordinary but it's clean and there's something that just makes you feel comfortable wearing this scent,and what's good about it is that it costs a cheap price as well,smells synthetic,but very subtle,a bit menthol? When I don't want perfume...this is my solution. Soft & fresh like clean laundry, yet feminine with just a hint of vanilla & musk. Never overpowering. Just lingering faintly. I'm not a fan of BBW's fruity, sugary, scents...But I am a fan of their Green, Aquatics, and Citrus scents. That's where I think BBW's talent lies. They seem to get those just right all the time! I only have the mist, but it gets the job done! It kisses the skin with just enough fragrance.

This has always been so beautiful to me. I've loved this fragrance since I was a kid. The new formulation from 2022 (I have the body spray, lotion, and shower gel) still smells the same, as I've always remembered. I rarely like fresh scents, so this is something special. I love the lush freesia in this immensely. It takes you right to the beach without the hot scent of the sun. You're lounging in the shade with a luxurious, freshly washed towel. It's amazing.

I own this as a lotion rather than a spray. Fresh-smelling and heavy on the powdery notes at first, a touch floral, with a green undertone that it mellows into more. Or maybe I'm just so obsessed with sniffing this that my nose gets used to the powderiness, allowing me to appreciate the green notes more. This is a scent I adore but my mother hates, so I never get to wear it.

Pure joy and comfort! A sister to Rain-kissed Leaves, perhaps? The scent is cool, soft and fresh and fluffy, like clean laundry ready to be hung in the breeze. The juicy top notes give a mild tangy but oceanic spray while the flowers at the middle caress and bloom on your skin. The final notes are gentle, soft and sweet, yet laundry fresh. I LOVE this scent :)

I know they have all kinds of notes listed above, but they are all blended so well, that all I percieve when I wear this scent is fresh, and clean! It epitomizes the definition of a clean, fresh scent. Not sexy or elegant or any of that. Just fresh and clean. Sillage is fairly good, but you will need to re-apply every couple of hours. Nice clean scent!

Crispy clean fresh and ready for action....it is what has become my signature scent, my everyday wear...specially for summer. I tend to wear others for special occasions and for getting close, but for every morning and everyday wear, I layer the shower gel, body lotion and body spray the perfume too and I am set for the day, LOVES IT!!

on my skin..this smells like i wore donna karan's cashmere mist and then went to the beach with my friends...its very light but i still can smell it...really good purchase..i have to admit that i wasnt really into it atfirst bu when they changed the looks of the signature collection...it was kind of like they improved the scent

I love this perfume! It's fresh, soft, restful and comforting. It's an improved laundry smell. It is the perfect odor to relax and spend a cocooning evening. I like to put it in my blanket and my pillow. :) P.S. : The comment before is written by me, my account only disconnected. ^^

Love this scent. It's wonderfully different from the typical floral-fruity combo. It is fresh and clean, but it's also tropical and musky. I know others have said it smells too much like laundry soap, but I don't feel that way. To me, this is one of the best scents out there.

just got out of the shower and am wearing this one now. i layered it with its own body lotion too. its so warm, snuggly and has a smooth powdery scent. this is more of my nite time scent because its so comforting and i love to fall asleep smelling sea island cotton.

As I live on a sea island (Amelia Island off the coast of Florida) I wanted to try this. I find it's a very homey, comforting scent that's reminiscent of jasmine in the air and taking laundry off the line when the breeze is blowing and the rain is about to come in.

I adored this perfume as a kid. To me this is still one of the more "mature" smelling BBW scents (to me I associate sweet perfumes with youth because of how much I wore them) and is probably one of the only ones I'd be willing to go back for

Favorite scent from B & B. The only one I really wear anymore from there. I prefer the sanitizer, lotion and body wash to the perfume or spray. and I spray another clean scent with the lotion.

This was very light on me. It has pretty great lasting power and an amazing smell. I like to put it on when I'm at home and its about to rain. Comforting and carefree.

I smelled this last year or so when my sister bought a lotion for me and one for my mom and told us to choose. I chose the Secret Wonderland because at that time I was trying to step out of my usual patterns but I really liked the SIC as well. So I recently smelled Sensual Amber and wanted to get it and of course they have the buy 2 get one free so I did the deal. I had read reviews for SIC but always thought it would fail at being clean like most fresh scents do. Most clean ones on me I love the top notes but towards the end of the day they smell sour or become putrid. I have found a few fresh scents that I like but this might be a love. I used a few fresh scents when I was younger that I really liked but lately hadn't been able to find any new scents that gave me that same feel and that lasted. When I got SIC the other day I liked it from the bottle but I didn't think it'd be more than that but upon spraying the past couple days its like I'm literally transported to a happy place. This is just a really pleasant floral but it has depth. I also thought this would not last but man I wore it to work and when I say I could smell this at the end of my work day its an understatement...it was prevalent. I did use the lotion and spray but still this is great especially for a body spray. Anyhoo...I really like this!! Its such a pretty scent. And this is just very pleasant but why must we always say oh its pleasant just for everyday but its nothing special! To me its the simple things in life that we remember the most. SIC'S clean simplicity is what makes it kind of unique!!

I just purchased this one yesterday (the fragrance mist and body scrub for a phenomenal deal!!) based on reviews here and it is VERY pretty with a touch of sexy. :) It has such a clean, cotton, fresh, light floral non-offensive scent and a very subtle "different" mild soft musk. I strongly agree with one reviewer of a "fresh laundry" aroma but much, much more lovely. It definitely has long lasting power on me (I can smell it a full 24 hours later on my clothing), the sillage is just right in my opinion too. I detect just a hint of citrus as well which gives it much more depth to me. I feel I could wear this easily during any season and day or night; as a fresh Summer evening stroll perfume after a day at the beach, a warm Winter romantic cuddled up by the fire alluring aroma, after the gym and on my way to work in the Fall in an unoffensive yet leaving inquiring minds fragrance or a morning pick me up Spring going shopping/running errands for the day scent. If you like the fresh, powdery, aquatic scents; you really just can't go wrong here. Beautiful! ☺ Update: I've grown to REALLY love this scent and wear it often as I find it extremely easy to wear for virtually any occasion. I have also noticed, I am asked without fail by both men and women wanting to know what beautiful perfume I am wearing...a definite compliment grabber.

I'd been dying to try this perfume for quite awhile after reading all the good reviews about it, and about how clean it smells, and luckily I've now received a big bottle of it, along with BBW's raspberry vanilla perfume, in a swap with the very nice Cristine. It's my first foray into the world of Bath & Body Works fragrances so it's pretty exciting for me!! Sea Island Cotton definitely is a very clean smelling perfume that is reminiscent of freshly washed clothes, although to me it smells slightly artificial at first and has more of a fabric softener smell rather than the smell of clothes that have been hanging on a line outside in the sunshine to dry. On my skin though it smells more natural, softer and is very pleasant. It's a good perfume to wear in the spring and summer although it could easily be worn year round because it's so inoffensive and clean smelling. The staying power though isn't great. On me it fades quite quickly and only lasts for a few hours before it seems to disappear. All in all it's a very likeable, pleasant scent and I like it, although I still prefer my Oxygene perfume to wear when I want to smell super clean because to me it smells more natural, softer and more sexy!

Don't let that "floral" label fool you. One of the more unique perfumes in B&BW's collection, Sea Island Cotton belongs to a rare group of scents I would call not only clean but even sour. It is deceptively simple for having so many notes, and despite the lack of warmth or sweetness, serves as an interesting kind of pick-me-up. I would say that it goes best in only the hottest, muggiest days. It is much more powdery, salty, and soapy than it is fruity, and makes a good unisex scent too. As with most scents like this, don't expect much longevity, though it may surprise some people. Overall not my absolute favorite from B&BW (I liked in more when I first got it), but something I think is unique and inoffensive, and depending on your body chemistry, could bring forward any of those lovely top notes. I find myself reaching for it when everything else is just too strong - and to top it all off, the new bottle is gorgeous.

This is one of those scents I like to use when I'm heading somewhere where I don't want my scent to be too strong,or overpowering.It's a nice,fresh,laundry hanging on the line type scent. Fresh cotton,light florals,freesia being dominant,to my nose anyway. I don't normally enjoy this kind of scent,but for days like today,when I had a doctor's appointment,it's perfect.Just fresh and clean,nothing to sweet or strong.I also find it very comforting,like a blanket fresh out of the dryer,just comfy cozy! Great for anytime you need something,fresh,clean or comforting. Sillage is moderate,but the longevity is amazing,I can still smell it,and it's been at least 8 hours since applying! And that's from the fine fragrance mist! I highly recommend this,for those casual,just wanna smell fresh and clean days!

So soft and clean. How could I not fall for this one? Simple in the most pure sort of ways. Clean, warm, laundry fresh from the dryer...or fresh off the line on a hot, southern, summer day. I tend to love fragrances that have a certain "creaminess" to them...and this one has it, too. There can be a beachy-ness to this scent, as well. I can't wait to where it on a summer day...walking down the block from our house to the beach and home again...only to smell its scent lingering on my skin. Great value. As with all B&BW's...using the shower gel/body butter combo and it is gorgeous.

I really do enjoy wearing this scent. This is my signature day time scent. I don't pick up any of the "juiciness" that you would expect from the top note listing but just a crisp cotton/aquatic smell but it's a soft cotton. My good guy friend likes it on me. Says I smell clean and that's all women really needs in his opinion. Update: I layered this with C.O. Bigelow Lemon No. 1999 that I also picked up at BBW and the combo is divine! The addition of a fresh, linear lemon really helps to bring out the juicier citrus notes I was previously missing in SIC. Very long lasting combo.

At first, this seems to be a simple scent. It is like clean laundry, and that is the first impression. But, this is deceptively complex because the more you are exposed to it, the more notes you can detect. The cotton flower is what gives it that clean laundry scent, but there is so much more to this. Sandalwood gives it warmth, flowers give it freshness, musk and powder gives it a cozy feeling. There is still an additional airy quality to this too. This is very mild, fresh, and clean, yet warm and friendly. Great for hot days, great for casual occasions. Simply smells good.

This was reformulated with less powdery florals and green notes as Sea Island Shore but the essence is still the same. Use it if you have a no perfume code at work. It just smells like you laundered your shirt with a quality detergent. Use it to the gym as a change from your citrus fragrance. Use it to the beach alternative to your monoi scents. Spray it on your sheets before you sleep. On your curtains on a hot day, and on your towels when you’re having guests. Refreshing and totally unisex.

This is similar to l'Artisan l'Eté en douce for me! But I prefer this one, because it's a little bit sweeter. I also find some similarities with Moonlight path, that is my absolute favourite fragrance; on my skin MP is powdery musk + sweet flower, while SIC is powdery musk + cotton. It's confortable and wereable all year round...it makes me feel fine, clean and happy!

Body Spray review. I am a little strange with this perfume. One day I will love it with a passion, and another day I will hate it with a passion. I just have to be in the mood to wear it really. It is a sweeter floral perfume mixed with vanilla. It does remind me of clean clothes. 6 sprays lasts about 6 hours on me. I like this for the spring and summer

I like this - it is very comforting and positive -happy scent. It reminds you of Downy or Snuggle dryer sheets - I guess a floral musk smell - more of a powdery lily-of-the-valley bouquet. It would go great with white and pastel blue cottons - sundresses or with jeans. Clean glossy hair and scrubbed skin and flushed cheeks. A great clean daytime smell.

I love this fragrance. It smells clean and fresh. Perfect for a summer day. It's the best of the BBW fragrances, IMO. Unfortunately it disappears in less than an hour on me. I had to keep reapplying it throughout the day. Very annoying. As much as I love the scent, its lack of longevity is a huge drawback. I will never buy it again.

im not gonna lie i wear this before i go to bed because it smells clean like i was just washed. i wear it in the morning to school to whenever i go with my hair wet because it makes me smell even cleaner and fresh. i woulnt use it as my scent though i just wear it when i want to feel cleaner than usual.

this review is for the body splash, it is very soapy and it tickles the nose. I dont think you should wear this with any material except cotton or it will smell like strong detergent....it is very fresh with a cotton shirt in the summer...it will smell very nice on your bed sheet n pillow

Sea Island Cotton smells just like fresh linen sheets from the dryer. A comforting clean fragrance like beach towels and fresh air. A perfect choice for when you don’t want a heavy floral or sugary sweet fragrance. Great scent! It is so fresh and clean!

This is the baby perfume in my collection so-far, I put it on when going to bed and it makes me feel so nice and pure in the morning. It's a clean, totally unharmful scent, with a bit of a dreamy, nostalgic quality. Works great for the gym as well.

Sweet in a good, refreshing way (like limeade, although there's no lime that I can smell in it), it's a nice mix of sea air and white cotton with some surprisingly pleasant orange notes that manage not to be disruptive. A great perfume.

This scent has the clean smell of cotton as well as a touch of salty sea air which gives it that extra something special. It makes me think of standing on a cliff next to the ocean and the fresh crisp clean air whirling by.
