Rouge Smoking Extrait

Closing out my BDK journey today is Rouge Smoking Extrait. I previously reviewed Rouge Smoking, and while I feel it was a great fragrance it was a bit too feminine for me. Looking at the notes of this one, I'm hoping it turns out a little more masculine, or at least unisex. Did I save the best for last? Let's get into it and find out; Scent: The opening is sweet, fruity, and nutty. The primary notes I get are cherry, almond, peru balsam, and milk. The strongest of the notes are the cherry and almond. The cherry leaps off the skin in the opening with a sweet and fruity accord similar to the aroma of maraschino cherries but not as heavily syruped like it was in Rouge Smoking. Behind the cherry is the almond note; sweet, nutty, and just a touch of bitterness. Up next is the peru balsam and milk. The peru balsam, true to it's moniker of "poor man's vanilla", gives the opening a sweet and warm vanilla accord with distinct spicy undertones. Lastly, the milk gives the entire opening a lactonic creaminess. It's not so much an accord on it's own as it is a modifier for all the other notes. All of these notes put together form a deliciously gourmand opening reminiscent of Lost Cherry, but richer and more decadent. The dry down is sweet, fruity, and warm. The primary notes I get are cherry, peru balsam, tonka bean, and rum. The strongest of the notes are the cherry and peru balsam. The cherry is still a focus in the dry down with the same sweet and fruity accord, but it's a little darker and more like a fresh cherry as opposed to the maraschino cherry vibe from the opening. The peru balsam has grown in strength in the dry down for a richer vanillic sweetness and more intense warmth and spiciness. The vanilla absolute in the base might be contributing to the sweetness as well. This is followed by the tonka bean and rum. The tonka bean, in typical fashion, confers a sweet, warm, and spicy accord; similar to the peru balsam but distinguishable by the underlying powdery qualities. Lastly, the rum gives the base of the dry down a sweet and boozy accord with spicy and fruity undertones. Throughout the fragrance, the overarching theme remains sweet, warm, spicy, and fruity with all of the accords maintaining a good balance. Strangely enough, I never got any oud. Performance: Initial projection within the first hour is very strong and can fill a room. Sillage matches that intensity with a dense and heavy scent trail. After about 4 hours the projection was still around 6 feet and the scent trail was still easily noticeable. At the 7 hour mark the projection was about 3-4 feet and the scent trail was a bit lighter but still noticeable. When I check again around the 10 hour mark the projection was around arms length and the scent trail was getting light but still faintly noticeable. The fragrance became a skin scent shortly thereafter, about the 11 hour mark. When to wear: Rouge Smoking Extrait is a fall/winter fragrance best suited for evening wear. This is not a fragrance I would wear casually, instead I would save it for special occasions. This type of fragrance, with it's focus on cozy warmth, is perfect for things like date nights or anniversaries. This is not a fragrance I would wear to the office. Blind buy: If you like cherry fragrances like Lost Cherry, or you like sweet vanilla fragrances, or the idea of both together tickles your fancy, this is a safe blind buy for you. Final verdict: My hope was that Rouge Smoking Extrait was at least more unisex than Rouge Smoking, and that hope was graciously realized. Thankfully, the omition of the heliotrope and the added almond, peru balsam, and rum notes helps to offset the cherry and make it something I feel more comfortable wearing as a man. The cherry note itself wasn't as candied and syrupy, so that helped as well. When it comes to performance, Rouge Smoking Extrait edged out Rouge Smoking by a small but noticeable margin. Both fragrances will give you strong performance in the first few hours and last at least 9-10 hours before fading away, but the extrait is a bit stronger in the opening and lasts an hour or two longer. In terms of versatility, the EDP might take a slight win against the extrait. Whereas I can see the EDP being worn during the day and for formal occasions, the extrait is only something I would wear during the evening and not formally. On the topic of mass-appeal, the EDP and extrait are essentially the same. With both having such a large focus on vanillic notes almost everyone is going to find them enjoyable. In conclusion, I do think Rouge Smoking Extrait is objectively the better fragrance for men. It's more unisex and it's a little bit stronger. Having tried several different cherry focused fragrances now, I can safely say Rouge Smoking Extrait is one of the best and my personal favorite. If you like Lost Cherry, but want something better that doesn't have garbage performance like Lost Cherry does, this (or the EDP) is what you want. I will be getting a bottle of this when I can. Scent: 10/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 9/10

This is how you make a breathtaking cherry perfume that stands out on a market oversaturated with cherry releases! Pair cherry with vanilla, tonka beans, balsams, amber, resins, rum and patchouli and create a cherry bomb! That’s the cherry fragrance I want to spent my money on. After owning the original Rouge Smoking for a few years, I was ready to get an upgraded version because I loved the scent but it always lacked in performance! At least for me, Rouge Smoking Extrair fixes that problem and took the scent in a heavier, denser, richer direction that I totally adore. I have heard that some people still like better the original but I am in the other camp. Each to their own! I have only got a sample to test it after listening to some unfavourable reviews online, saying that BDK kinda ruined the original DNA with the extrait release, but I want a full bottle of Rouge Smoking Extrait 100%. Not right now, because I’m mentally ready for spring and summer but for next fall! This is your cold weather cherry perfume without any doubt! It’s so rich and complex and still smells like cherry. Will definitely recommend the Extrait version to cherry perfumes lovers to get their noses on this. It’s a bit pricier, not going to lie, but the juice it’s insanely good!

Sonuca gelecek olursak Vişnenin vanilya ile tatlılaştırılıp ud ve rom ile alkolik bir vişne tablosu. Pudramsılık ve romun bitişi oldukça muazzam. Oud burada kalıcılık olsun diye bir kaç milim kullanılmıştır. 10/8.1

LOVE! HOT, SEXY!!! Usually, I hate gourmand parfumes, and I wouldn't call this one gourmand. I don't smell any chewing gum and cinnamon in this, thank God! It is dark but soft, extremely feminine, yet has a punch. I had the original version, and I would say extrait is a different perfume. Really, it doesn't even remind me to rouge smoking. I am pleasantly surprised that the extract is less smoky (so happy, because my boyfriend can't stand smoke in the original); in fact, there is no smoke in this one; instead, there is creamy, smooth woodiness and sexy ambery cherry. It is bold, it is loud, but irresistible!!! I also hate lactonic notes, which are making me nauseous, but here that note just adds to the smoothness. Oh, what a gem! Be careful, silage is enormous, just like longevity. I dislike offending other people with very loud perfumes, so I use it during the cold winter, just a little, and in the evening, of course. If this is the red lipstick in perfumes, it would be one of the boldest shades of red.

I really like this. But it is very, very different when compared to the EDP. This is much darker, bolder, more mature. The EDP is much sweeter. This smells like a boozy cherry with a woody base for the first hour or so. The cherry eventually falls behind and the perfume is then centered arround oud, patchouli and booze. The milk might be what's giving this perfume a creamy aspect which is much needed. For the first hour, you can smell that it's a Rouge Smoking flanker, there's an accord that's very similar in both, but as time passes, they get pretty different. Performance is way better than the EDP, this is strong and long lasting. It's borderline beast mode on my skin, it lasts an eternity and is extremely noticeable. Overall, very good release. But I'd have prefered this to be a standalone fragrance. I really wish they made Rouge Smoking but stronger and longer lasting. Where the EDP was unisex leaning feminine, this one leans more masculine.

I was looking for a dark, sexy cherry, so when I came across this and read the notes, I knew I needed this. But I wasn't sure if I should invest so much in one go. So, I bought decants to try before committing to a bigger size. Let me tell you, this is love at first sniff. On my skin, it smells so yummy! The cherry note isn't bright and candy-like; it's dark and boozy, baby! The real kicker is the middle note because it transitions from boozy cherry to delectable lactonic cherry. That milk note really complements the cherry. And then it turns slightly woody while retaining that sweetness. The almond note peeks through here and there; you will get hints of it. It's intoxicating, in plain words. Both my mom and my brother really liked this. This is actually what I imagine a femme fatale with red heels or a seductive vampire with red lips would wear. This leans more feminine to me. It's long-lasting on my skin from what I have seen so far.

When BDK said this was the fragrance they were sending me, I was unsure what to expect. Not a big fan of Cherry fragrances, but this exceeded my expectations and changed my opinion on Cherry fragrances. I'm sure they sprayed the box with this and as I was opening it I knew I was going to love it! This is NOT your ordinary Cherry fragrance. I absolutely love the creaminess and depth in this definitely not synthetic smelling like most cherry fragrances I've tested or owned. It feels a lot more elevated than the OG. Think Lost Cherry and BDK Rouge Smoking had a lovechild, but one that stayed out past midnight and had a mischievous glint in its eye—it would be this! To me the Almond stands out and I think the creaminess comes from the added milk. Leans a little lactonic but with a beautiful smoky twist! I also have to add that when I walked in my glam room the following day it definitely left such a beautiful scent trail. 9.5/10 for me.

For the record, I'm a fan of the original EDP and still love it (in my top 5), but I *might* love the Extrait more. It took me a few tries with my decant, but I fell in love and bought a full-size bottle. Whether you think it's better than the EDP will rely entirely on your subjective preferences and expectations. They are dissimilar but also not dissimilar. To *ME*, the Extrait is much more unisex, bolder, and "deeper" than the EDP, which feels more effervescent. Keep in mind that I gravitate to unisex fragrances. While I do not need to be complimented, I have received many on this fragrance from both men and women. Nose-blindness could potentially be an issue for some. I still receive compliments when I no longer detect it on myself. One advantage I think the EDP has is that it's more wearable year-round, while the Extrait is probably better reserved for fall - early spring weather.

Man oh man this perfume is insanely good and im very hard to impress. Unique, memorable, beast performer. A real independent, strong women scent, a women who is unapologetic, carefree, successful and a real leader. The dry down reminds me of Baccarat rouge extrait but add the sweetness of vanilla. Still can feel on my skin after 2 showers and countless hand-washes. I was looking for something insanely good and different for my wedding, ended up buying this after I sniffed about 20+ premium luxurious perfumes with €300+ price tags, this one outperformed them all with its little sibling BDK Velvet Tonka. Decided to go with this one but tbh they are both super gorgeous and can be easily a signature scent. For me this is a huge yes.

The first time I recently smelled/tested this fragrance, I immediately went to buy it. This simply had to become part of my small, carefully selected collection. This perfume completely blew me away, both with its scent and its performance. It literally stays intense all day long without calming down, smelling so powerful and strong that it’s unbelievable! A beautiful dark, sweet, and juicy cherry. When I came to buy it, I also tried the EDP version, but it was nothing compared to this fantasy in the Extrait version — just a pale shadow of it. Truly a brutal fragrance. A fantasy in a bottle. The performance is extraordinary. This Extrait version is not cheap, but if one fragrance is worth every penny, then it’s this one...

I tested this marvellous extrait on my skin twice to be sure about how I feel. This is a seductive cherry scent with a slightly dark side which is highlighted by the oud and the combo of benzoin/amber (to my nose these are the most prominent notes). The bottle and the colour are the cherry on top. However, and this is the saddest part as I am in love with this red potion, I cannot justify the extrait label and the pricetag for this sillage and longevity. Yes it lasts more than edp but not enough for an extrait and it lacks some additional intensity. This is definitely not a bomb like Maison Crivelli extrait for example. Do not blind buy, you may get disappointed.

This is slept on. One of the best cherry fragrances out there imo! I get the people that say it smells a bit synthetic, but that does not mean bad. For me it makes that cherry note stay longer, which is exactly what I want. This one is also beautiful in the air, much better than smelling straight on skin up close (can seem cloyingly that way). I think it is where some people distance themselves from it, since it is how 90 percent of everyone smells a perfume for the first time. Either on skin or a testing strip. But this one needs and deserves a little space and time. Such a lovely scent. If you are looking for a deep and lovely cherry fragrance, look no further.

This may be the least gender-typed fragrance I own, with every other unisex leaning feminine or masculine in profile. I can not pin this down either way. Dark balsamic, patchouli, and woody elements pulling it towards masculine with sweet, vanilla, and fruity elements pulling it feminine. The nutty and boozy elements ties it all together. Nice complexity! I can sniff this one all day and enjoy it every time. I wore samples of both the OG and the extrait a couple times each before deciding to buy a bottle of the extrait. It was richer, more complex, and more interesting to my nose. I was choosing purely for what I liked better, and I recommend you do the same.

This extrait version smells exactly what I thought smoking rouge EDP would smell like. It smells like how the bottle looks, if there was ever a smell for what the colour red would smell like, it would be this lol. I wish I got this instead because I bought smoking rouge a couple of months ago on a blind buy and only last week I got to smell this extrait version. This is so much more sweeter and cheerier if that’s even a word. Love love love this and waiting for discounters to finally start selling it because this isn’t worth the 150$ markup to the EDP. Nevertheless I’m hunting for a full bottle of this. Absolute banger!

If you are looking for something amp up what the original has accomplished then look the other way, this is totally different, it does not keep that sweet cola/fizzy vibe. This is dark and smooth and not as cherry heavy but a fragrance where the cherry is still important. Slightly milky and airy, fresh and dark, heard but not loud. Despite it being an extrait it is rather weak, but i dont like in your face kind of fragrances so i dont mind truly. if you want a cherry fragrance that isnt potent cherry dominant then this is a good one. Not blind buy safe, but i sure do love it

One of my absolute favorite cherries. This is so deep and sexy to my nose. Not a single time I wear this that I dont get compliments and get questioned what the fragrance is. It replaced Sirene in my collection, and this is topped on my skin only by Cherry Punk Extrait. I am not much of a cherry person and perhaps once I dive more into cherries I will find others that will make this one smell less enticing, but for now, this is just a hitter! Dark cherry with a slight buzz and a gorgeous ambery touch. As always, aim to test before buying :)

I fell in love with the original BDK rouge smoking, and when I tried this my initial reaction was the smell is not the same. It’s almost like a different perfume. I liked it, but I was comparing it to the EDP. I didn’t purchase the x-ray because I was still in love with the EDP that I owned, but I will admit it doesn’t last very long . I just tried the extrait again after sitting for two months and I do like it. I just have to get past the fact that they smell different. The extrait has some Angel share DNA in it.

Smelled this on my friend, she sprayed on the air and on me. The smell just sticked to the air and smelt forever. Cherry is for me a hard note to like but this one achieve something impossible and made me like it. Or maybe I just love my friend so much and love her fragrance choices haha. Jokes aside, this is a long lasting, powerful fragrance that I can not imagine myself using it, Idk why for me it is a bit dark and I feel like im too young and naive for this fragrance idk Im scared

I got a sample of this and was pretty shocked because to me this is way different from the original. This gives me soft powdery caramel in the dry down. Sure it opens with a woody cherry but that vanishes. This I feel is more feminine and crowd pleasing. It lasts a longggg time and I love catching the scent of it on jackets I've worn. I think this would make a fabulous scent during the colder months when you want something sweet and comforting.

Today, I can say BDK is my seconde favorite perfumes house, I love all of the perfumes that I smelled. Rouge smoking EXTRAIT is incredibly well blended. Its sweet from cherry, but woody from the oud, but its not overwelming, im usually sensitive to oud AND cherry, but THIS, this is good, wow. The oud is not dirty, its clean and, its weird to say, but to me the oud smells like suede (which I like). The drydown is intoxicating, sexy, perfection.

I like this soooo much better than the original, I found the amount of tonka in the og to be overwhelmingly cloying, but this has a lot less tonka and the cherry note feels darker, like Luxardo maraschino cherries. The base doesn’t read as oud to me, it’s more like suede and I love it. I would absolutely get a bottle once it hits discount stores, but I already have Ruby by Piper & Perro, which smells super similar and I love just as much

Sort of typical sweet oriental perfume opens with a blast of saffron more than cherry with a faint booziness to back it, feels like all of these notes are being leveraged to make some sort of rounded cherry scent but it somehow works for me, you still get the vanilla bean but is a backing note in Extrait while it stars the EDP, didn’t think I would love this at first but I think this is my favorite cherry atp

She’s my favorite from the line. Sexy, sweet, and truly beast mode. She feels complex, mysterious, and unapologetically confident. Picture this: you in your Pucci outfit, walking through the city at night, while your partner is dressed head to toe in black. That kind of sexy. It even gives me Pamela Anderson in a cherry red moment, but without the smoke

it’s a blast, a TOTAL BLAST! I enjoyed this perfume so so much. I will definitely wear this smell to a victory, to a challenge, to gossip about someone, to win some battles. I will be carrying it and holding self confidence like a sword. If you know what I mean, you know it. Any other cherry smell cannot beat this one for sure.

The longevity is amazing! I am currently at 24 hours and I can still nuzzle into my arm and catch whiffs of it. This scent really does it for me. I have nothing to compare it to, and that usually for me means I need a full bottle. Hoping I can find one for a discount but would pay full price for this beauty.

Wonderful, unisex, masculine leaning cherry leathery scent with American to give it a lot of oomph. Love Lost Cherry. It was groundbreaking, but this one and cherry pink extrait are waaaay better, each one having its own character. Better than the original, which means femenina. Blind buy worthy.

Got myself a bottle of this for my birthday. Opening is a mysterious, intriguing cherry, a dark one maybe because of the almond and pink pepper. After a couple of hours it has this velvety powdery vanilla, amber and rum combination. It radiates grand on the clothes.

Now this is a cherry perfume I can get behind, and the name actually fits perfectly. A deep, sweet cherry with smoky, almost leathery, oud. Mmm delicious. Edit: The dry down is giving a lot of Angel's Share / Khamrah vibes. And am I the only one who smells cardamom?

Few months ago I sprayed this perfume on my wrist to see how it would smell like on my skin, it was my first encounter with it, and I kid you not the smell is still present on my jacket! I’m absolutely obsessed with it, so sexy

Rouge Smoking Extrait is better than the original Rouge Smoking. I prefer the amber and the balsamic mix with the cherry. It’s much more sexier than the original.

Smells like Dark Cherry Cola plus leather. It smells sexy. def unisex masc leaning. Wish it was an all year fragrance thats how good it is. Pricy.

Compliment getter every single time I wear it. Not mass appealing like designer’s but attention getting for sure.

The best cherry fragrance in the market, excellent performance

Ordered my perfume at bdk website and it arrived this evening the next day. This is definitely different doesn’t smell anything like the edp. I do enjoy it tho. For Those who are expecting this to be a stronger version of the edp, you will be disappointed. I do love the floral, powdery, and root beer smell of the edp but I prefer more darker scents. This smells smooth , a very faint cherry smell that’s disappears as it dried down. It’s nutty , sweet , creamy, and I also pick up a lil bit of leather . This is unisex leaning a bit feminine as it dries down it does have a sweetness to it. Perfect for date night , cold cool weather I find it classy sophisticated sexy. Longevity is moderate and sillage is moderate. Stays for a long time on skin For an extrait it’s not beast mode, performance is just a t bit better than the edp but I’m gonna give it some time to sit since it’s pretty new and see if it improves. Definitely not a safe blind buy . I suggest trying it out before spending the money.

This is different from the edp. A bit deeper and darker, it suits the bottle design. Still sweet, cherry, almonds, but with added milkyness, woods, amber and oud - if that sounds like your thing then maybe this is for you. It's not very strong for an extrait though. For my first test, I was surprised by the oud, and the notes didn't seem to go together. Second test, the notes are mixing better and it's a smoother experience. Bit of a dry and warm woody feeling overall, with hazy softness from the almonds and milk, and oudy spice cutting through in the background. Later tests, it opens with a ton of cherry, and I smell leather, like a warmer and more complex version of Cherry Punk. With more use I'm getting a richer scent, with more cherry and sweetness. A multi faceted perfume, indeed. Tested a 2 ml sample. Not one for me in the end, it's a bit too sharp.

i bought a sample of this online by mistake after testing the original rouge smoking at the department store and absolutely loving it, and i thought that maybe the extrait version could reconcile my annoyance at buying the wrong sample, but unfortunately this is just not hitting the same. and this is coming from me, as a known lover of cherry and smoky/woody/incense scents. to me, it just feels a little overdone - it's in the same vein as most copycat tom ford lost cherry scents in my opinion, lots of labdanum and smoke and heavy artificial cherry. i would not have gone out of my way to purchase a sample of this if it hadn't been a complete accident. i think this is a much darker, sexier, smokier evil twin to the og rouge smoking. not bad but i like the original better than the sequel.

Initially, I loved this and wanted to get a full bottle. It is probably my favorite BDK that I have tried. It smells expensive and high quality. The cherry note doesn't smell synthetic to my nose, which is hard to find. The almond, milk and vanilla give this a creamy quality, but it is very well executed and does not smell lactonic at all. Even though the oud doesn't stand out, I can smell it and it composes the fragrance beautifully, contributing to Rouge Smoking's performance. The main reason I gave up on this is how it sticks to my clothes after a full wear. I sprayed this to a cotton hoodie of mine and I stuck to it through multiple washes. This was VERY annoying. Wearing this meant I had to sacrifice a clothing item. Nonetheless, a great scent. Very appealing and unique.

A less energetic, more subdued take on the original Rouge Smoking. The cherry is there, but it isn’t as present and forward as it is in RS EDP. I get more rum and vanilla into the drydown than I do cherry. Longevity is very good. I sprayed it on my arm at 3pm yesterday, it’s currently 3am the next day and it’s still there as a skin scent. The projection on this is very strong, even with just one spray. Between 3-6pm was where the projection was the strongest. Only problem I have is the price point ($495CAD MSRP, discounters will run you about $300CAD). If you are within the budget for this and want a very good, mature, not super synthetic cherry-like perfume, you might want to consider trying this.

This is my favorite amongst the higher end cherry fragrances I’ve tried, including Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry, Cherry Punk by Room 1015, and Cherry Punk Extrait. The dry down of Rouge Smoking Extrait maintains the cherry notes longer and more consistently than any of the others, for me at least. I also find the opening slightly less cough syrupy than Cherry Punk Extrait. The dry down has amber as a prominent component; I love amber so that was a plus for me and made the fragrance feel full bodied and alluring.

My favorite cherry fragrance I’ve tried. It still has that synthetic cherry smell, but the other notes balance it out and pair in a way unlike the others. But it does remind me of Tom Ford Lost Cherry in a way, especially after a while. It does feel like if Moulin Rouge had a scent, it would be this. I feel like it has the perfect strength for me, but for me it didn’t last more than a few hours. I know it seemed to last longer for others.

This is a great fragrance, I just prefer the OG. I tend to favor more beast mode frags and thought I needed an amped up Rouge Smoking but the additions here just make it dusty to me and takes away from the chic cherry cola I find with the Original Rouge Smoking. Sometimes I just need to learn to be happy with something really great to begin with and not look for the more, more more in a fragrance.

Far more ambery than cherry, with a heavy dose of that labdanum. It smells quite smoky up close on the skin and leaves an ambery/incense trail. I prefer the original - sometimes I like the extraits better but I can live without this one. I think the charm to the original was that prominent cherry and it gets lost in the sauce in the extrait. But sample both and choose what you prefer.

Boozy almondy cherry fragrance with good amount of sillage and good longevity, I can't smell red mandarin or pink pepper, ambroxan note gets stronger with time, more sweeter and more offensive than the OG, a night-out perfume. It worths the price if that's what you're looking for, I prefer Eccentric by Franck Boclet as a cherry fragrance.

I had hopes for this as an evening date scent as my partner loves Hypnotic Poison and Black Opium Over Red, but this is stronger and spicier and was unfortunately not a hit at home. However, _I_ do love it, and intend to wear my sample size. Great mature liquor cherry frag if you ask me! Makes me feel bold and confident.

Great fragrance. It’s not like other synthetic asf cherry fragrances (Even though cherry note is synthetic in every single fragrance). Smelling it gave me a resemblance of something and I think it was Gucci Elixir. I couldn’t test it well tbh

This is a perfume that actively tries to seduce the wearer. Bold, rounded, beautifully blended. Classily, unabashedly sexy. Wear this only on the offensive.

Smells very similar to Cherry Punk Extrait by room 1015. Except this has a noticeable Patchouli, vanilla drydown. Good performance. 7.5/10 - pass for me
