Vanille Caviar

This is a very original and clever perfume from BDK, but is not something I'd be into wearing. I get vanilla but it doesnt cover up a greasy, salty smell. Like discarded fish and chip wrappers left in a car for a couple of days. It's not as bad as that but it has that taint. The sort of taint you can smell but also taste somehow. It does soften on the drydown and go a bit more minerally and less greasy but fundamentally I don't like the smell. I get a lot of olive oil from this. Original yes I'm sure, I just don't get why you'd want to smell of olive oil, salt and slightly bitter vanilla. I find myself wishing for more vanilla here to even things up a bit, even if I understand why they haven't added any sweet accords. Is it evocative for me? Maybe. I stayed at a lovely rural AirBnB years ago on Crete and the quite serious older lady who ran things there smelt like this. Olive oil and faintly of food she'd cooked, but with a sweetness that was her perfume, almost lost under the other smells. It's a lovely image and a beautiful memory of a beautiful holiday but it's not a smell I want to recreate for me to wear, personally. I think this would be a nice perfumed candle, but not something I want to wear, does that make sense? I love BDK, but this is not one for me. In fairness to them, this isnt aimed at me either. Salty, earthy vanilla with real depth and attitude. This is not for the typical vanilla lover who wants something sweet, powdery, or gourmand. This fragrance shows how different and complex vanilla can be. It’s balmy, warm, and has a strong composition that blends beautifully with the skin. It’s very addictive — you keep going back to smell it. It doesn’t fill the room, but projects like a soft aura around you and definitely awakens curiosity. Classy, sensual, confident, and sexy without being overly loud. This is a fragrance for the experienced nose — for those who take the time to listen to a scent and understand it as it unfolds, rather than demanding instant gratification. My third absolute favorite from BDK.

From the very first seconds, the fragrance evokes associations with something warm and cozy, like a glass of hot, spicy glögg 🍷. When I first smelled it on a blotter, that was exactly the impression I got, and it made me curious to try it on my skin. However, even on the skin, the feeling remained the same, which truly delighted me! To me, the composition smells very beautiful and full-bodied. The vanilla in the base is truly distinctive, not light and gourmand as we’re used to, but deep, as if dissolved in resins, warmed by rum and balm. The fragrance is long-lasting, rich, and captivating, like the aromatic steam rising from a hot drink on a cold evening 🍷

I found this fragrance in a niche perfume shop in Lisbon, and was unsure about it initially. However, for the rest of the day I couldn't stop smelling my wrist where I sprayed it, it was addicting. I went back the next day and purchased it. It starts off quite spicy, and settles into a sweet spicy mix that imo smells sooo good. Not your basic young Vanilla scent - I'm obsessed

I see the similarities with vanille antique but this vanilla is quite seductively syrupy sweet I think from the cacao and the milkiness from osmanthus, absolutely mesmerizing Vanille antique is that daily working vanilla & this scent for my evening date!

People... Vanilla caviar refers to the seeds of the vanilla pod that are scraped out. This fragrance has nothing to do with fish or the sea (nor did it ever claim to) and I find it hilarious that some of you say you smell fish...

I am scared to say how much I like this. I didnt expect there would be something that beautiful yet non-gourmand in such an elegant and classy way. I have been asked about it and I have been gatekeeping it. It is that good.

This is truly amazing. The only vanilla that genuinely projects and lasts all day. It is such a different take on vanilla that makes it sophisticated and sexy.

Oh that’s divine! Syrupy, sticky, waxy, warm, the color bronze or burnt orange. Its sexy and sophisticated, one of the best vanillas for me for sure!

This reminds me of Killians Born To Be Unforgettable without the masculine dry down. I quite enjoy it. Effervescent, spicy and somewhat sweet.

This is actually just the caviar of a vanilla pod, it’s really nice, reminds me of bakinf canelles and creme brulees

I feel like commentators here didn't bother to get pass the first 2mins of the scent it is an unusual, dry spicy opening which reminded me strongly of caraway and carrot seeds I have no idea what calamus smells like, perhaps that's it. I didn't get any cassis but in just a few mins the scent opens, warms up, gets vanillic and slightly leathery (probably osmanthus). Drydown is warm balsamic, sweet-resinous and generally pleasant. Feels perfectly unisex to me, for cold fall or winter weather. Definitely not a crowd-pleaser sort of perfume, but really doesn't deserve the hate

I understand why this is a polarizing fragrance. It opens fresh vegetal with calamus and cassis, when the perfume blooms there comes vanilla and osmanthus which gives the scent a sweet twist, cassis note has a cat piss effect which I didn't expect. I was expecting a freshie, I wore it in a sunny autumn day unfortunately. Very long longevity and strong sillage, may be offensive in a closed area, unique unisex night perfume. I'll save my sample for cold weather, very interesting, artistic. I enjoy niche houses that take risks and try strange combinations.

There is literally nothing fishy about this. Throw the word caviar in the name and people automatically think 🐟 🐠 🎣 This is actually a sweet resinous deep vanilla. It's not woody. It's not gourmand-foodie even though it is a sweeter vanilla. It is more like the inside of a vanilla pod, add some depth with the resins and some sugar for sweetness. It's kind of simple for a deep vanilla. Reminds me of things I've smelled before, maybe from Indie houses?

this is a very interesting combination of notes. as i first smelled it, i immediately thought of fish caviar but in a good way. when the scent fully dried down i got megamare vibes with a tiny hint of vanilla in it. surprisingly this is very unisex, even leaning feminine! i cant bring myself to actually want to wear this fragrance but its so interesting that i might just like it

This is the most photorealistic warm vanilla pod in a fragrance. All i get is vanilla crème pâtissière for that matter but is not overly sweet. If you have smelled a vanilla pod, and like it, this is a safe blind buy. All of the people that say it smells like olives, wel, go smell a vanilla pod

Fascinating I can't decide what I think of the smell but it's unique, not cloying. Perfect switch up for winter. BDK does it again.

I purchased a sample of this fragrance. My first impression: yes, it has a vanilla and gourmand character, but it is far from being as refined, emotional, or uplifting as Guerlain’s vanilla fragrances. On my skin, it unfortunately does not become a warm or creamy vanilla — instead, in the drydown it turns into something strangely “fishy,” almost like a salty, metallic nuance rather than a balmy sweetness. This completely killed the comfort effect I normally expect from vanilla. The opening is interesting and attention-grabbing, but the development does not go where it should. The fragrance feels incomplete, as if something essential is missing from the composition in order to feel truly finished. This is not a fragrance I would associate with a younger audience. On the contrary, it may appeal more to a more mature wearer, yet even for that audience, I personally would not recommend it. As someone who adores vanilla and looks for depth, warmth, and emotion in it, this one left me unsatisfied. The ingredients themselves feel high quality, but unfortunately, the scent as a whole did not work for me. My expectations were very high after BDK perfumes like Pas Ce Soir and Gris Charnel, and this was a disappointment. Craftsmanship & ingredient quality: 10/10 Scent satisfaction: 4/10

It’s good, but far from versatile. You have to be the right person in the right setting to pull it off. It smells great, and I really like it, but I don’t think I have the lifestyle for a fragrance like that lol. A very mature, well-rounded, and sophisticated fragrance that leans feminine, but I believe a well-groomed man in a suit could wear it with confidence. It really shines in colder weather and feels perfectly suited for elegant evenings and upscale social occasions. 7/10✨

Not trained on Calamus root but the opening is strangely spicy and slightly waxy? Very strange smelling opening as the vanilla caviar takes over more and more over time with cacao giving a dark sweet bitter over a heap of synthetic ambers. Doesn’t smell fishy or brine-y really but is still slightly weird smelling and gets very annoying to me over time

It’s a very unique fragrance. I’m not sure if it makes sense, but to me it smells very concentrated, ambery, and salty. While I appreciate its uniqueness and the clearly high quality of the composition, it's simply too harsh for my taste. It also leans quite masculine on my skin.

It's quite weird vanilla...I haven't smelled something decent ones from BDK for a while.

Was really liking it and couldn't figure out what it reminded me of til I looked at the section on here. Definitely smells like Burberry Goddess on my skin. I'll have to compare them side by side at some point. To me in almost gets a little peppery but as this sits it starts to smell a little too ambery, which I am not a big fan of as that note reminds me of the smell cows. It isn't so noticeable in this but now that I could pick it out, I'd pick goddess over this. Still a good one to sample though! I'm sure I'll use mine up.

I’m on the dislike side of the fence with this scent; the only thing I like is the name, Vanille Caviar, because of the briny sea association I and others get from wearing it. It’s not a hate, but it’s not my style. There’s a note or two that dominate, and I would bet that ambroxan is here but not listed in the above breakdown. If this works for you, Vanille Caviar’s super power is that it lasts forever.

This smells like expired Megamare in a jar marinated with old fish. The jar is open in a room where someone sprayed vanilla air refreshener to take the smell away! Yes exactly like that!!

I blind bought this perfume and regret it! It’s the second perfume in my entire collection I can’t stand. It has a sharp, screech smell. If someone wants to exchange It is brand new!

Very dry, funky and kinda salty not for me I find it overwhelming and heady. It’s obviously amazing quality, so projection and longevity are great if you like this scent profile.

No, no, no, please no. A nauseatingly sweet, sticky scent that’s hard to wash off. Even one spray is only tolerable after a thorough scrub with soap and warm water.

I smelled this at a niche store in London and initially thought “WOAH”. An abrasive vanilla with a harsh, rooty calamus top note. It feels cold and detached, more like an idea of luxury than something truly human or warm. Not a scent I would ever want to wear or be around.

I really don't like this. Whatever they use for the amber wood accord completely overpowers the rest of the fragrance for me. I don't get a lot of vanilla or resins (though they are there) - mainly the synthetic amberwood note. No, it doesn't smell like fish.

This is a very bean-y vanilla scent. Sweet but not syrupy, dark, and ambery. I wore it in the daytime, which may have been my mistake. The balsamic note gets overpowering after a while and gave me a headache.

I eceived a sample today, sprayed it on a tester strip (thankfully,) and it's the first time I've ever been disgusted by a fragrance. Fish and vanilla. I feel queasy thinking about it.

I just can't with this one. I don't get any vanilla at all. The opening smells just like Vicks Vaporub to me, and I can't keep it on long enough to get to the drydown. Total scrubber.

first off: despite the greenness and the weird fish comparisons - this is a sweet fragrances. its not gourmand or intensely sweet but to describe it as anything else is wrong imo. to me it feels like a new raw material got released not to long ago. ateliers des ors released a new vanilla a few weeks ago (novae vanille) and the main component in that formula is identical to vanille caviar. both scents are extremely similar, both scents provoke the same extreme reactions and both fail to generate good ratings on fragcoms. id say caviar is a slight bit more green and daring while novae is a bit sweeter but theyre superclose and obviously built upon the same raw material. the smell itself is hypermodern. its feels like a "tech-vanilla". no nostalgia, no gourmand facets, no tonka/caramel/benzoin vibes. just very reduced sweetness, balanced by dryness and "moleculish" precision. contrarily to most vanillas its super airy and translucent. it somewhat reminds me of bois talisman, too. this one is way less abstract and has a bit more body but its similar in its modern transparent molecule vanilla style. imo this is rather easy to wear after 5 min. most people will enjoy this if they want something sweet without verging into smelling edible.

Absolutely beautiful! Another great addition to the BDK line. I am not the biggest lover of vanilla scents as most of them lack elegance. Those straightforward gourmand vanilles that feel like a piece of pie are just not my thing at all but this vanille.... ticks all the boxes needed. Not juvenile, feels elevated sexy but elegant at the same time, luxurious and not obnoxiously synthetically sweet. I love how this feels powdery and warm. I think it is the Osmanthus note that gives the right balance for this scent. Wow. Just wow. It kind of reminded me a bit of Matiere Premiere - Vanilla Powder because of this powdery vanilla aspect, but they are different for sure. I like this one wayyyyyy better. I love how elevated this feels, having in mind that vanilla is a dominant note, this does not happen very often with those kinds of scents. Not childish at all. I would even say it feels a bit femme fatale, even though it is for sure unisex. Longevity is quite good, not enormous, around 8 hours, but sillage is quite strong so that is very nice if you want to be noticed.

An exact mix between Noir Exquis & Vanilla Powder Extrait! I blind bought Vanille Caviar after reading a lot of comparisons between it and Vanilla Powder Extrait which I’ve recently discovered & fell in love with. I find VP Extrait so smooth and enveloping, warm yet different from your average trendy vanilla, but simple. However the price point made me delay my purchase. So after getting Vanille Caviar, while definitely seeing the similarities, this is a slightly different beast. And then it hit me - it embodies a mix between VP extrait and Noir Exquis from L’Artisan Parfumeur. That boozy, decadent, liquor-like quality vanillla, a spicy soft, but deep scent. This is almost like a sweet-savory treat, I agree “caviar” is a good way to describe the salty, mineral, aquatic quality it has in the dry down. I believe if you love both these fragrances, you will like Vanille Caviar, but don’t expect it to replace either. I am still craving Vanilla Powder Extrait and most likely will purchase at one point.

I have no idea why people say this smells fishy. There is nothing fishy in it. The mind can get tricked by what others say or even by the name on the bottle. This is a beautiful vanilla fragrance. I think it fits an older woman really well. It feels creamy and luxurious from start to finish. The vanilla stays present the entire time. It is smooth and soft but still has strength. A lot of strong scents feel harsh or synthetic, but this one gets creamy vanilla right. I do pick up a little woodiness in the background, but the main story is vanilla. I really enjoy it, but it is not something I would wear as a 37 year old male. I tried a sample and even used it to layer over other scents to add some vanilla, but it just takes over anything you put it with. It projects well and lasts a long time. This would make a great gift for your cool older aunt.

Google : "Vanilla bean seeds are the 'caviar' scraped from the vanilla bean and have a fragrant vanilla flavor in its purest form. Unlike ground vanilla, which contains both the seeds and husks, vanilla bean caviar will add a more intense flavor when added to baked goods." To add, on the box of the perfume main notes are listed, andvthere are more versions of vanilla, like accord caviar de vanille, extrait, and absolut de vanille de Madagascar. Alright, now that that's sorted, to my nose there is NOTHING fishy, salty nor metallic in this fragrance. If anything it reminds me of Nishane Ani, even more the X version. It is deeply rich vanilla with some green aspects. There is depth and richness coming from balms and gourmand notes, but not in a dark, heavy or chyrchy way. Feel very bright, uplifting and just beautiful.

Ohh woow! Reading the reviews... just because it has caviar in the name, it doesn’t have a fishy smell... 🤣🤣🤣 If anything, I can relate to the comment that said that it has a slightly green olive edge, but it is not too strong to my nose. It is a balsamic, slightly green vanilla which is between a wearable not too sweet and a bit more dark special occasions vanilla. It is perfectly unisex, maybe a tiny bit more feminine leaning. And the performance on skin is impressive: 7-8 hours of longevity, with moderate projection for 2-3 hours, then stays closer to the skin. Beautiful but a little too ambery for me to " feel " the vanilla like i would want. She's savory, but there is also something unfortunately that reminds me of waxy effect. Def probably by far, close to Vanille Carbone in the "type of vanilla " but entirely different notes and behaviour. You all needs to get your noses checked if you think "it remind you of" Vanille Antique Novae Vanille Vanilla powder extrait They are all so different ! This is resinous vanilla, with a hint of waxy. Beautiful, 8/10. Strong , lasting, def won't go unnoticed. Absolutely unisex, actually due it's balsamic nature i would love this more on a man.

Vanille Caviar is a little bit metallic and salty on my skin. The vanilla seeds are supposed to be the caviar here...but I don't get that much vanilla scent. I get a green and metallic, synthetic note that overpowers the vanilla all the time from beginning to drydown. It is not as bad a Novae Vanilla that almost burned my nose with the synthetic aroma chemicals...Vanille Caviar is not that bad, but it is not great either. The labdanum, calamus and cassis are just too much. It feels sweet in a non descriptive way. Like vanilla scented medicine.... I guess it smells great on some people but I don't like this. Next.

This is too niche for most people’s tastes, perhaps? It opens with the most beautiful pure vanilla pod smell that feels roasted with a green note - as though popping and bursting with black lacquered scent. As it dries, the initial burst settles a touch and the warm, incredibly musky vanilla comes into play and develops with earthy green. I would say it’s a green vanilla version of Musc Shamal by Armani Prive - it has the same balmy earthiness. Addictive and carnal without being too strong. Update: however after testing it goes too green vetiverish for my tastes so it’s on eBay for decluttering.

Balsamic vanilla, a bit tarry and green at first. It then transitions into a slightly spiced almost fizzy vanilla. Unisex This gave me similar vibes to Gucci Firenze, they are not dupes but if you like one you will like the other and they made me feel the same vibes when sampling them. I know perfume can smell slightly different on everyone but did some of you actually sample the perfume or are you just assuming it has an actual caviar scent and just writing reviews without trying it?

Ughhh just tried it for the first time.... So far, its not good for me. I smell some weird combo, like a spice with something green (calamus?) ! I don't know, it's just really weird. Almost giving me the impression of something sour!!! I'm disappointed! Its unisex in my opinion! Edit: After wearing 4 times, its not that bad. The drydown is better, but its not gonna be a full bottle for me. My favorite from this line is still Vanilla Leather!

Stunning fragrance!! This smells incredibly expensive and luxurious. This is a linear thick chewy yet airy vanilla, with a green cardamom note shining softly throughout. It is not a gourmand and as one reviewer wrote it has a modern minimalist techy quality. Yet I imagine an elegant modest woman wearing this- cream and beige cashmere sweaters and shawls, gold earrings and beautiful hair and makeup Very long lasting with modest sillage. 9/10

Another in the "adult vanilla" category. First impression is a root beer float with unsweetened root beer, and an extra shot of vanilla, and a very, very slight salted aspect that offers a cool edge. Slightly sweet, close, sophisticated, totally unisex, casually luxurious. This doesn't fill the room, but those you allow close to you will want more .. Lasts

This is a dry, potent, bomb of vanilla and especially balsamic notes. It's very special and heavy, not for everyone. I find it leaning to the masculine side and I could definately see someone who enjoys the attention of the room wearing this. He has to enjoy attention, cause there is no sneaking around when you're wearing this one.
