Ancient Amber

This perfume is beautiful. Pretty much straight up amber (including the vanilla like sweetness that goes with it). Its very dry, resinous and very sweet with a hint of spice. It was exactly what i was looking for in an amber perfume. Its very similar (imo) to both Tom Fords Amber Absolute and MFKs Grand Soir. The only difference I get is that Ancient Amber is a little sweeter. Also it projects and lasts longer than both of the others. When you first spray it youll notice its super intense. Like if i spray more than 2 spritzes it might make me cough its so potent. But within minutes its settles down and isnt too over powering. (Works great on clothing too, so long lasting.) In summary i highly recommend if you love amber or resinous fragrances. Beautiful!!!

I should have listened to the reviewer who said it smelled ancient. Total grandma vibes. If you’re a youthful sweet tooth like me, this is likely not for you. Jan 2022 Edit: OMGeee!! I am eating my words. I let this macerate for at least 2 weeks and the prior off-putting opening blended better. It is currently my favorite thing to wear this winter for a cozy day in or out. So warm and so good. Wear solo or layered with a sweeter scent. Heaven. PS: This is sooo much better than MFK Grand Soir.

This is the best amber fragrance I've personally ever smelled. Imagine Kayali Vanilla 28 if you took out everything except for the amber note. It's a beautiful, sweet, warm, cozy, smoky, resinous scent that literally feels like a warm hug. It's my top 3 favorite. I love it so much.

This is one of those hidden gems out there. Simple and beautiful. I love to wear it on its own and to layer with other perfumes. I bought this and immediately bought a second bottle. Cozy, sexy, smooth and perfect. I am obsessed!

This is one of my favorite ambers ever. It checks all the boxes, powdery, dusty, resinous, thick, sweet, a tad spicy. This is not a grand soir dupe!

At some point oriental stopped being used for perfumes and instead we started calling them all amber. Was amber the connecting note all along? I've looked it up and depending on who's doing the defining amber is warm, cozy, sweet, resinous, may contain vanilla and animalic elements, and a default scent in oriental perfumes. I'm not getting much vanilla and the sweetness isn't at all aggressive. It's resinous, spicy, and exotic yet cozy. An intimate, expensive dinner out scent. It's a heavier scent with powerful projection, but not muddy. Despite being a single note it feels layered. I don't think Ancient Amber smells old, but I do think it smells "of an era" and people from that era now have grandchildren old enough to be posting on Fragrantica. From the time that created ski ballet as the hippies grew into yuppies, this is the scent of the transition between patchouli incense and Opium perfume at the office.

Got this for layering purposes, but smells 95% similar to Ammens Original Medicated powder to me rather than the amber I was looking for

Strong, thick amber. Semisweet. Not as smooth as I would like. Easy to layer, as intended. This pairs nicely with their Cinnabomb scent. Perfectly unisex.

This just.....does not do it for me. It certainly smells ancient. There's something going on here where the amber has this old library, dusty quality. And I'm talking the Library of Alexandria old. The thing is that I could totally imagine this doing well with someone's body chemistry and being warm and sexy on them. Needless to say, I didn't get along with this one.

There haven’t been too many reviews done on this perfume so I kind of took a leap of faith after a reviewer said it smells like MFK, Grand Soir. Straight away, like 5 minutes after USPS delivered it, I was extremely let down! Before I get to why, like a reviewer said here, try back after it sits for a couple weeks, which I plan to do. Initial thoughts, Grandma in her 90s (you go girl!), wearing her favorite Chanel jumper from 40 years ago with her hair perfectly styled from the salon and lipstick on her teeth ... those vibes. It’s a dusty library smell. I’m telling you that I LOVE ambers ... but not this, at least straight from the delivery man. I’ll post back when it has sat for awhile and I hope to God that I eat my words here.

This is a really simple fragrance, but very beautiful if you're looking for warm amber. This can be layered with other fragrances you might want to add some warmth and depth to, but can easily be worn on its own as well. This scent smells very similar to Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Grand Soir, but without whatever element gives it the "old man" vibe that I've seen quite a few people complaining about. I personally love it and think it wears beautifully on me as a woman, but this one from Layered would be absolutely perfect for you if that aspect of Grand Soir put you off.
