Terror & Magnificence

And 2020 will begin under the reign of the Terror and Magnificence, the new fragrance by Beaufortlondon ...This time the architect in charge, is no other than Pia Long, she has a great article/review about her creation online. They say, love is blind, and as much as i love this house, and being Vi Et Armis/Rake and Ruin my all time favourites, to tell you the truth, i'm a bit confused, because i don't really know if this is taking the direction of the mainstream-waterdown highway or is just something punctual and the house after this release will carry on creating Dark Beasts like the ones from the past. This state of disorientation reminds me of something the perfumer said: Darkness of the kind that makes you doubt your own senses, my problem with this fragrance is that i was expecting another kind of terror or at least, my vision of it ...wrong again! The subtle character of this rare beauty, the balanced and blended to perfection and her refined soul, is the true manifestation of Magnificence. Notes: since i don't know what the Kyphi accord smells like, there not much i can say, this perfume develops from the begging to the end, not linear at all; and you do pick up many of the notes listed ..The papyrus, the incense, the benzoin and the styrax, the labdanum, the smoke from the birch tar, the myrrh, the tobacco and the vetiver. But what really took me by surprise is the stone cellar theme, when i saw the wet stone accord listed, i thought: here we go again with the selling poetry. There is at one point a huge stone-inside of a church feel to this masterpiece. Once again a blind buy from this house, for me, absolutely no regrets and very glad and thankfull.

Terror & Magnificence starts the way I would expect a BeauFort to: smoky and dark. But this time, it’s more polite and mellow compared to previous smoky BeauFort creations. The fragrance opens boldly with the sharpness of a campfire—black like tar, woody-smoky, and charred, oily wood. As the opening mellows, the more “churchy” elements begin to emerge: incense, myrrh, benzoin, old dry wood of benches and other old religious décor. But the scent doesn’t go fully ecclesiastical. There’s something darker, wilder, and more primal anchoring it—the exotic kyphi accord and a sharp, woody-earthy papyrus note. The traditional BeauFort black smoke in this fragrance turns surprisingly mild and even slightly sweet. Birch tar is softened by labdanum and, especially, the aforementioned benzoin, creating an exotic amber-like accord of black smoke. To me, Terror & Magnificence is the BeauFort for people who don’t typically “get” smoky fragrances—or better yet, the perfect introduction to the smoky genre. I love smoky, incense-heavy, and resinous scents, so for me, this is all Magnificence—no Terror to be found.

It's one of my favourite fragrances now, but you NEED to try it before buying. For me, it's playing with something dark and unsettling in smells without getting too much into trashy odours that will give you a headache. However, I saw that it pretty much gave a headache to some other people who tried it... It's dry, it's gunpowder-like, it's cruel, it's mighty... This smell makes me think of a scene with someone being followed in a dark green forest. It's autumn, just a couple of days without rains. There's still some daylight at the moment, but it's barely helpful in this place. The person who's being followed passes an unexpectedly grandiose old church in the forest. This church is in a really bad state and had a fire recently (struck by a lightning maybe), the smell of burnt wood, incenses, and smoke is still there. The church looks magnificent, but radiates danger without any obvious reasons. For the person being followed, it gets worse from there—the follower's definitely getting closer remaining unseen, but it's unclear "who" or "what" that follower is...

Okay, yep, there it is: The year is 2004; I am back in college at UC Santa Cruz. It’s a rainy night, and I’m out in the woods. I’m with my friends. We’re listening to black metal on an iPod plugged into headphones that are cranked up to max, acting as a makeshift portable speaker. The thick lush greenery of the dark woods gives us refuge from the downpour, but we’re still soaked. One of us is climbing a redwood tree nearby. Cold granite boulders offer us makeshift, if slightly uncomfortable, seats. The mouth of the nearby cave beckons with a dubious invitation – an exhalation of cold, wet, earthy air. I’m wearing my favorite old leather jacket; it’s cozy with wear but it’s barely keeping me warm. The sweet perfume of the girls from the party we just gleefully abandoned is still wreathed around us like a ghost. One of us just finished a damp cigarette. We’re passing around a bottle of Jim Beam in the dark, laughing. It’s no wonder I love this fragrance. 95%

Got this as a sample with a fragrance order, thought nothing of it, never heard of the house. On a night in, like all nights these times, have it a go. First impression, commend des garcon black with BALLS! I like CDG Black but felt it went too soft spice market in the drydown. This is good! It's dark and Smokey but something in here gives it some brightness to balance it out and make it wearable. After 24 hours with the sample a full bottle was on order. While CDG Black was good there was something stopping me from taking the plunge. Terror and magnificent is just that, some trrrrrrrble with some mags. Ying & Yang in a battle so fierce you get them confused. I see reviews commenting on how Pia went soft in this one, well whatever, it's right in my wheelhouse. This will even make me reach for encre Noir less, a lot less. To me this is heavily masculine. Good longevity and proper projection. Love it!

Magnificent! Like anything with birch tar, this one instantly pulled me in... It’s one of those dark scents that doesn’t suffocate you with smoke. There’s no sweetness. No cigarette ash vibe. Instead, it’s a beautiful blend of saffron, incense, tobacco, churchy resins, and a gorgeous labdanum. There’s also a green feel from the papyrus, which adds freshness to the mix (also dry). I really liked the composition. My signature scent contains the ancient Egyptian kyphi note; and this one has it too, which made me respect it even more. Toward the drydown, the earthy, grassy nature of vetiver becomes more prominent. Incense is more prominent. The scent doesn’t shapeshift wildly; it has a few soft waves but stays relatively linear; likely thanks to the labdanum. Because of that, I’d say it sits right between dark academia and gothic in terms of aesthetic. Tag(s): Gothic, bold, dark academia, incense-y

I can't be the only one that finds this DNA similar to Amouage's Purpose 50 - my signature scent. They share a common backbone of incense and smoke, each evoking a sense of ritual and grandeur. Whereas, Terror & Magnificence leans dark and gothic, with birch tar, papyrus, and benzoin creating the feel of charred wood and candlelit stone walls within Winterfell. Purpose 50, while equally incense-driven, softens the smoke with creamy sandalwood, papyrus, and a touch of vanilla, making it more opulent and polished within The Red Keep. Both Game of Thrones reminiscent scents are commanding and long-lasting, but where Terror & Magnificence feels austere and architectural, Purpose 50 presents incense in a more luxurious, rounded, and elegant form. Purpose 50 is the sacred fire reborn in gold leaf and silk with incense rendered not as terror, but as magnificence refined.

Terror & Magnificence is exquisitely dark and unforgiving. The birch tar is a smidge industrial and dominates the composition. The distant smell of burning villages mingles with leather, stone, and deep, dried tobacco. It isn't a gentle scent. Harsh, but it still manages to be refined, polished-- or maybe sharpened?-- and menacingly elegant. An excellent blind buy as I wanted something in the mood of Matiere Premiere's Falcon Leather. (This isn't a Falcon Leather clone, by any means.) If Vlad the Impaler had a signature scent, this would be it. Unisex, leaning masculine. Moderate projection, excellent longevity. I showered hours ago and I can still smell it on me.

I didn't like this when I first got the sample. I think in my head I was expecting pure church incense, so the mineral note of the wet stone accord really threw me off. But the more time I spent with it, the more I liked it. Now it's my absolute favourite, and I wear it all the time. The pure church incense frags like Avignon and Sacreste smell kind of 'thin' to me now by comparison. Some people on here say that this is a weak perfume on them, but I guess I'm lucky and it really sticks around on me -Weirdly, my cat really loves it too and tries to lick it off me, which she has never tried to do before with any other perfume. What's up with that?

#1025 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is my second Beaufort London decant. The first, "Fathom V" was an immediate buy decision and so is this. Nothing unisex whatever about this scent. Probably not a scent for the young. More traditional. Business wear for the execs. Date wear for the confident. Nice woody incense without being churchy. Nice pepper and papyrus. Honestly the only thing I'd wish to add to this is some iris. Otherwise it covers all my bases, and it performs well and is reasonably priced.

My second fragrance from this house And it is obvious they have a certain theme going on It’s the smoke, unapologetic, potent, not willing to please anyone, just being itself which I respect It is the closest thing to smoke that i smelled in my fragrance experience Though I would’ve loved if it was stronger iam sure it could’ve been a masterpiece But the weakness of the scent is unexpected with what you smell in the beginning of the fragrance Average longevity and below average projection

My third from the house. Having previously purchased Iron Duke (8/10) and Vi et armis (9.5/10) I find Terror and Magnificence A slightly more accessible proposition. Smoky, leathery, boozy with an oudy feel, this is strangely mainstream for the house and is becoming a bit of a signature scent for me. Good longevity, decent sillage and projection makes the an excellent choice. Love the birch tar the packaging style and the inspiration for the fragrance. 8/10

This is not for everyone. That said, I looooovvee this!!! Deeply intriguing, very gothic, dark, with such a deep character. It makes me think of visiting an old aristocracy castle in Europe, getting whiffs of old leather, old fabrics, and masculine scents. Only for the fearless who do not wear fragrances to please the masses. Decadent. One of my top five out of 140+ collection.

Please tell me that I am not crazy and it doesn't smell 1:1 like Robert Piguet Bois Noir because I can't tell any difference between these two Edit after some time with this fragrance - it definitely reminds me of Bois Noir, but it's very different once you get used to it. Really like this, highly recommended.

Contemplative smoky incense, with a dry sweetness (probably coming from the myrrh note) that lightens the darkness, making the fragrance somewhat more sociable and mass-appealing than the more abrasive leather of Iron Duke. Great concept as well. Sweet darkness, and quiet revelatory truth.

You want church, go Avignon, Cardinal or LAVS. You want smokey dark vetiver goth/rock vibes, this is a joy. Not as powerful as the earlier fragrances but very wearable. It’s niche and I love it. Try before buy with Beaufort but they make two of my all time favourites and this is one.

Evokes the feeling of being in a dark gothic church filled with incense. Feels like it would be worn by Benedictine monks. Absolutely stunning, slightly let down by poor performance.

Whenever you spray this on, play some Type O Negative and that's it.

Bought a 2ml sample of this. After testing "Iron Duke" - this one is much better to me, both in terms of being wearable and enjoyable. Reminiscent of a non-specific Amouage, for me - probably because of the incense. With the black pepper, this actually becomes a bit close to Interlude, but much less spicy/aromatic, and more linear and dark, with barely any sweetness in comparison. Has a resinous bottom but without being warm. Has also a faint charred/burnt/sour (oxidized?) smell of a fire that already was put out by rain (possibly from the birch tar). To me this is not "smokey" (or even foggy) in *texture* at all, it just has the SCENT of incense and charred wood. There's even something a bit oily about it - acrid/sour/salty/briney tarry smoke? This is not the type of incense you practice Zen Buddhism meditation with, it's the type you perform occult rituals with. On first impression it seems like a colder, darker, more serious / stern, cerebral, melancholic, and linear Interlude (Someone mentioned Purpose 50 but I never tried it so Interlude is the closest I know). Though, the more I smell it the more complex it becomes to my nose, making the comparison less valid. But still: If interlude is a prince sitting on a flying carpet against the indigo evening skies above the spice markets in some Arabian port city, observing the royal ball of the Sultan in the palace nearby --- Then this is Edgar Allan Poe, walking in the pitch black of midnight , on a cold winter day in London, wearing a trench coat, with a raven perched on his shoulder. He then enters an empty church, and tries to reignite some smoldering embers, to no avail. He sits down and lights an incense and a candle to write the poem "Dream-land" with black ink and a feather, on old parchment (the papyrus?): "...But the traveler, travelling through it, May not — dare not openly view it; Never its mysteries are exposed To the weak human eye unclosed; So wills its King, who hath forbid The uplifting of the fringed lid; And thus the sad Soul that here passes Beholds it but through darkened glasses." This is great. Nicely blended. Very atmospheric. With three major drawbacks: 1. If you already own Interlude or similar Amouages, this might feel redundant (unless you need a dark and brooding version). 2. performance is not even a tenth of that of Interlude. Projection here is abysmal. 3. After 3h-4h+ the drydown becomes kinda boring - kind of like a resinous BBQ sauce (not too dissimilar than the dry-down of Iron Duke, just less pungent and more pleasant)

Another great fragrance from BeauFort let down by poor performance, and this is unfortunately far worse than Absent Presence. Terror & Magnificence was also one of my favorite BeauForts off first impressions, and it did at least turn out to be great in the scent department (which is arguably more important than performance). For some reason this opens smelling like a tremendously realistic whiskey scent with rich, dark resins and tobacco. Unlike many whiskey fragrances like Japanese Whiskey, Old Fashioned or even Nasomatto's Baraonda where the whiskey note tends to be brighter, somewhat fruity and "cereal", and not as alcoholic, this instead leans very strongly into the alcoholic bitterness you feel in your mouth when you drink whiskey. I'm trying to explain it as clearly as I can but ultimately it's a very subjective thing that other people probably won't pick up on so I'll leave it at that. As the fragrance dries down the strong alcoholic "blur" splits into different notes, and the birch tar, myrrh and incense all become more defined, each giving the scent a distinct characteristic: the birch tar adds a slight charred woody finish to the background, the incense a touch of smoke but especially a resinous bitterness, and the myrrh, as opposed to the incense, adds a slight resinous sweetness. Overall I think this is also an amazing fragrance and my second favorite from the Revenants collection, second only to Iron Duke. Performance is, to put it bluntly, pretty abysmal. Projection and sillage are both next to nonexistent, to the point I straight up had to ask my mom if she could even smell me, to which she said no until she put her nose right up to my neck. I could also barely smell myself for around 15 minutes after spraying this on at two different times throughout the day, but the scent was quite noticeable up close on skin, which rules out nose blindness. Absent Presence did at least project weakly for about an hour, and I could still catch an occasional whiff of it for a few hours after that, but here it behaved as if I had sprayed it on several hours earlier from the very beginning. Longevity is great, however, as this does last a good 9 hours on skin but this doesn't even begin to make up for the weaknesses in the other two aspects.

You sort of expect anything Beaufort to shock you - whether for good or ill. The brand lives for impact, to make you feel exhilarated, terrified and intrigued all at once. Love or hate, they all make GIANT impressions and are completely unapologetic about what they want to do. I can admire all their scents in the abstract, even the ones I loathe, but find many just too much to be wearable. Sample sizes were enough for most, though I love having the option of wearing Iron Duke, Tonnerre or Coeur de Noir every now and again. So hearing this was 'Beaufort but a bit easier on the nose' - and reading about its amazing-looking composition, like a list of my favourite notes all piled on top of each other - I was primed to finally cough up, give in and go full bottle. But on testing, this shocked me for a completely different reason. Beaufort have finally made a scent so wearable that it's a normie weakling. What the hell happened here? I was so hoping for great great things but this was unbelievably quiet on all fronts for me - lovely bit of their signature tar at first and some nice peppery resins... and then ... in under 2h it had simply melted away to VERY vaguely fragrant incense and slightly peppery ash, and pitifully close to the skin too. Completely baffling. Every single note listed is intriguing for me, yet so many were undetectable (and oh, I was SO THERE for something which really did smell of pebbles and papyrus ...). Just not as billed. I'm grieved by this and will give it another go on another day, but for now, amid Beaufort's stable of bellowing bad boys, this is the wimpy runty cousin who doesn't really belong in the gang but tags along hoping to style it out. And I should have loved it. For shame!

Definitely in line with the house’s other dark and smoky offerings, Terror & Magnificence does show some interesting growth in a different direction. The smoke here is not the main attraction, but rather acts in a more subdued way to prop up a pebble/stone accord. I have often seen perfumes list various notes in the stone category, but never have I smelled something so clearly stone-like. This part is a gorgeous homage to the architectural inspiration. Seriously, the best I’ve smelled in that category and totally unique for the house. In contrast to a prior reviewer, I don’t find this mainstream in the slightest. For Beaufort, that’s still only Iron Duke. That said, I can’t call this a masterpiece because I’m sensing immensely more woody-amber than with others in the house’s lineup. I don’t know if it’s Ambermax or perhaps just a huge dollop of ISO E Super (it doesn’t smell like AmberXtreme to me), but it certainly detracts from the reference-quality stone accord. This aspect seems more prevalent on paper than skin, so I will test this a few times to be sure how I feel about that abrasive rubbing alcohol element. All in all, I’m happy to see Beaufort moving in a marginally new direction while maintaining their idiosyncratic aesthetic.

I think this is something expected from Beaufort if you are familiar with the brands aesthetic. Smoky, brooding, naturalistic, earthy it's all here in abundance. As spiky as a Hawksmoor church spire with a rougher incense accord, Papyrus, birch tar smoke and black pepper but there's something inherently creamy and rounded about it. This doesn't have the dynamic, juxtapositions of Tonnere or Iron Duke but everything is complementary and a pleasure to wear. It's not a fragrance where the notes are masked in smoke, the Tar element being handled with a deftness of touch. Kyphi is a Ancient Egyptian incense blend I believe (I've seen a odour historian selling it) seems to have a light camphor and sharpness of Frankincense and the cream of sweeter soap myrrh. Vetiver is ever present and even though much more rounded and clearly better than anything I could do, it's similar in style to something I've been working on for several months. Heartening as it's clearly a good direction and my first experience of British perfumer Pia Long. It's decent.

I went and got the Revenants Discovery set because I was curious about this Perfume brand. I go this discovery set for this scent specifically. Because I was THIS close to impulse buying a full bottle because I love the smell of a church or a cellar. At last minute I had a moment of clearity and bought the discovery set instead xD I was hoping for more of a cellar like vibe but it is definitely an old church. Not as much incence as I was imagining it smelling like. It is very smoky, cedar smelling, old building and spicy scent. In a fucked up way I really like this. Would I wear this? probably not unless I am going to a ritual in the woods with some witchy friends (someone please invite me I am bored) But overall I like the vibe of the perfume. I haven't tried it on skin yet because I am quite sensitive to strong scents and I was quite nervous about this one. I will try it on skin in the future and will report back here.

Surprisingly the least projecting fragrance from this house I tried - and the least divisive I think. It's really nice how they think about the people behind the names of the fragrances - the Iron Duke was like cold blood/metal in the background, and this one smells of wet, cold, dark stone in the back. The overall story here is tobacco, a bit of spice/leather, woody tar opening and cold, damp stone in the base. This leans masculine, but is unisex. It's dark, not really sweet. It's a bit churchy - doesn't smell like a mass, more like the building. Nice for colder days, nighttime, too. Very nice. Will last you a day, project somewhere in-between moderate and strong.

T&M is a great smoky fragrance. It opens with a good amount of smoke, tire rubber and oil. That lasts for only about 15 minutes or so until the spicy/resinous/woody notes appear to form a nice base under the smoke. It's not a smoke-only or burnt wood-only fragrance. If that's what you're looking for, you'd be better off trying Vi Et Armis by BeauFort. T&M develops into a complex but pleasant fragrance. Thoroughly masculine. Scent has very good longevity - after 8 hours it was still going strong when I showered for the evening. Projection is on the average side after the first hour or so. Really like this one and found the scent to be pretty unique.

I can recognize high quality un this perfume... But this is not my cup of tea...i know that nowadays are the smoky smells trendy... But this one is too much for me. I can only smell a bit of very poeerful an dirty incense and lots of smoke... It is like the Next day off Saint johns night... After having been the whole night around a firebone... As smelling experience is wonderful... But i wouldnt like to smell like this! The performance is great. Very good longevity and moderate sillage (but more than enough for this smell)... This is NOT a daily wearer. I enjoy the smell, but i definitely need to have the right vibes for it. It is extremely Smokey and peppery and maybe even a bit medicinal. If you are looking for gothic church vibes, I would say it has the goth part nailed, but not so much church. I blinde bought this and would maybe recommend to not do that. Get a sample of it first and see if you will use it enough to warrant getting a full sized bottle.

One of the more mainstream ones from this house, which is still daring in comparison to a lot of niche. This one is mainly vetiver but before it lands on that main note it starts off with some sweet suede from the saffron and the myrrh. It then moves into more of a smoky amber, until finally settling on a very dry vetiver and that papyrus note. If you like this houses really smoky ones, I'm sure you'd find this one nice too.

So so much happening in this one, wonderfull tar note! leather and tobacco is on the harsh side married well together w pepper and a hint off saffron, you can catch wiffs off almost medicinal like labdanum, burnet out wood chips and a radiating warmth, this is so wonderfull and unforgiving in Its aproach Nothing sweet here... only smokiness and raw notes masterly putt together in a rugged perfume

For sure doesn't smell like the inside of a church if that's what you're looking for, but I'd love to see the church that does smell like this. It is sort of ominous and imposing as a fragrance, just acrid enough that it cuts through and gets itself noticed but soft enough to still be pleasant to have on. Not a daily wear for me but when the vibe's right it really hits.

Terror & Magnificence: Imagine going to a hardware store and buying pallet of lumber and dark stone. Pulverize them, mix them together in a blender, and somehow turn them into liquid concentrate. That's exactly what I get from this. Hardware store wood and moist pulverized stone. Earthy and rich. Cool art. Scent 6.8/10 Performance TBD (but seems powerful)

Tar, tobacco, incense and wow! This is in the same ballpark as CdG’s Black and Zoologist’s Tyrannosaurus Rex. I like this a lot. Probably wont buy a full bottle, but only since I already own Black and is planning to get a bottle of T-rex as well.

London in the time of Jack the Ripper—with its stone-paved streets, Victorian houses, and narrow, smoky alleys. An enigmatic, solemn fragrance, perfect for those who find comfort in the intimacy of darkness. Truly beautiful.

Kind of a warm and cozy version of Beach Hut Man? Maybe it's the myrrh and vetiver with aromatics? I had just intended to sample this for fun but after wearing it twice I think I may want to buy a bottle. Oops, sorry wallet.

I personally love this fragrance, however everyone else who smells it is very split on whether they like it or not. It’s smoky and maybe even a bit spicy.

Classy hardcore leather, saffron, myrrh and fresh papyrus. Smells rich and cruel.

This one is quite weak and disappears quickly, at least on me. While it's detectable, it has a nice, warm, peppery element, especially in the opening. This note fades quickly, though. The dry down smells like labdanum and clay. I don't exactly dislike it, but I'm not in love with it either. It's interesting. I'm thinking it'd suit certain occasions and personalities quite well, but it's probably not a daily fragrance for the average person. While the opening is fairly unisex, I'd say the dry down leans more feminine.

I was pleasantly surprised by this fragrance. Based on the notes, (birch, whew!) I thought it would be a real stinker. As someone mentioned, this is very much like a T. Terenzi's Ursa. While I would love to smell this on a man, there's zero sweetness in it. It's a very rigid, clear, boozy, dark, slightly resinous scent. A little goes a long way, as the projection is mighty. What kind of woman would wear this? A sophisticated, yet edgy woman who likes to go clubbing but not to attract a partner.

ehhhh, this comes off like a dirty incense but not in like an earthy intentional way. kinda sour like it got pissed on by animals probably from the papyrus. it’s not horrible and i’m probably being a bit dramatic. i can definitely see why people like it but lush has a face wash called angels on bare skin that vaguely reminds me of this

I hyped myself up for this fragrance, but I got devastated. I wanted to like this one, but sadly I don't. The amber dominating this one, with the pepper on the background, but kinda nothing else. It's empty. As I read the reviews, yall looking for the church. Church is here, but I don't like churches.

Like someone pointed out, this is what Edgar Allan Poe would wear on a gloomy day. The amber accord is very intense, and this might not be to everyone's liking. It's dark and warm, and quite difficult to wear if you're not specifically into this kind of fragrances.

The name is overblown for what's basically a rendition of a stone church. This fragrance was created in honor of an architect, and I think they overdid trying to make it edgy. Church architecture just isn't an edgy subject.

I'd call this one "a light version of the Laudano Nero". Little bit softer and reserved, but other than that the resemlance is obvious.

Bought the Revenant sample pack and this was one of them. Unfortunately, this does not exactly stand to its name, there is not much Magnificence going on, it's mostly terror. I am not exactly sure what this one is trying to emulate suggest or propose; judging by the church photo on the bottle and the name, I assume it tries to be somehow gothic and appease to a gothic base? I am not entirely sure but I might have come across a few years ago on a young gothic female colleague (hello Luna!) during a night shift in a hospital. Every time I walked by her station there was this chemical menthol yet smoky smell lingering about. It took me 6 hours into my shift and walking by her station numerous times to realise the smell was not the smell of an ointment or some medication spilled in the bay and so I did not dare ask her why would she do something like this to herself. The trouble with this fragrance is that is very poor in composition, it's a basic accord made out of poorly chosen ingredients. It comes off as a Black Afgano replica yet without the complexity and the quality of BA and with tonnes of medicinal smell that somehow cancels the positives. I would not call it offensive but basic and uninspired. The price in my opinion is exaggerated you can get better smoky scents than this for half the money, If you want to be gothicy churchy smoky mysterious go for Funeral Home by Demeter, it's much better at it than this one.

This is actually not even that bad but I think I'm just irritated that every BeauFort scent sounds like it's going to be amazing but then smells meh on me. My opening note was: are you kidding me? This is a generic incense scent. Unlit incense at that, I get a bit of dried carnation scent (the saffron?) but it basically smells more hippie shop than cathedral. After 30 minutes it was generic incense perfume. Not at all unpleasant, but you could get something similar for a fraction of the price. An hour in: pleasant, faint, incense. If I huff it really deeply I do get a hint of that old church/damp stone thing, but it's barely there. Again, did not get even a hint of smoke off this. Weak projection, weak sillage, no longevity. It disappeared very quickly. After 3 hours it was hardly detectable aside from a lingering sort of sweaty pot pourri smell that was very feminine-leaning. I kinda hate it. I'm not even going to bother trying it on fabric.

Dark, sour and opaque, like the chocolate left at the bottom of the box that no-one really likes. The saffron has a unpleasant, metallic smell and the vetiver is bone dry and does nothing to lift the mood. A chain-gang, penitentiary fragrance. It's like the smell left on your hands after a hard day of smashing stones and handling oil drums, as the grey day draws to a gloomy close. Unfortunately for me this fragrance is unloved and perhaps unloveable.
