Bentley For Men Black Edition

Bentley Black Edition besides being a fine perfume, is also probably a marketing test as it has been launched, so far, in the US and the Middle East. Recently I saw this perfume advertised by Harrods. Well ... it must be already on sale through Europe. To date very little has been written about this fragrance. I blind bought it in the (FragranceX). I assumed to be low the risk of regretting it. Judging by its "Intense" and "Absolute" predecessors, it should be at least an acceptable fragrance to say the least. I suppose I gained that bet because I found BBE to be quite an above average fragrance since the first whiff. A colleague of mine that witnessed my first test was really enthusiastic about it. To my nose this perfume is a newcomer to the so called blue group of fragrances that includes names like Carven l'Eau Intense, Invictus Aqua, Legend Spirit, Hawas, Dylan Blue, Bleu de Chanel, Dior Sauvage, Versace Eros, Mr Burberry, Icon Racing, Mauboussin Private Club, Luna Rossa Carbon, Azzaro Wanted, Perry Ellis For Men, Oxford Bleu and now... Bentley Black Edition. Nevertheless it's not really very similar to any of them, with the sole exception of Carven l'Eau Intense. L'Eau Intense is woodier (deep forest scent), fresher, less sweet and a bit more greener. BBE is stronger, dryer, just a bit sweeter and with a better performance, specialy in the drydown. Those features make BBE closer to the Bentley for Men family of perfumes. The opening is, moderatly earthy, very spicy, a bit floral and a bit powdery. The fragrance develops itself through the heart stage with a woody and dry accord , a mild sweetness, and sustaining a fainter earthiness. The bottom stage becomes quite warm, resinous, sweet, a little creamy, and keeping some of the previous dryness together with a new peacefull woody and earthy accord. The warm, sweet and resinous notes are kept all through the pleasant drydown. It's a very nice scent. i like to use it with mild and warm weather, when I am in the mood of a lesser sweet scent than what we get from Legend Spirit, Legend Intense, Dylan Blue, Dior Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel, or sweeter than Carven L'Eau Intense. Longevity and Sillage are above average for this type of semi fresh fragrance. How does this Black Bentley copes with ratings? - Scent opening: 8.0 (very good) - Scent Dry Down: 9.0 (really pleasant) - Longevity: 9.0 (up to 9 hours on my skin, with 3 sprays) - Sillage: 8.0 (sillage peaks up to 5~6 feet; It projects heavily almost for 2.0 hours) - Versatility: 8.0 (Don't use it neither with very cold temperatures or extreamly hot weather; best in Spring and Fall) - Usability: 8.5 (it's really a "use it almost anywhere fragrance", but not the best one for formal events, clubbing, gym, seaside or Winter strolling) - Compliments: 8.5 (This scent competes with other alluring BLUE fragrances and may be regarded as a compliment magnet. You will smell elegant, clean, fresh and sexy, but not cute due to the lower sugar level of the fragrance) - Uniqueness: 8.5 (I tested the scent similarity between Bentley Black Edition and Carven L'Eau Intense. With 2 sprays of each perfume in my hands I could verify that both scents and progressions are similar till the middle of the drydown. It's kind of strange because the notes are quite different. I don't make any associations with other fragrances. Some people comment BBE to be similar to Creed Himalaya. Well... I never tried that Creed fragrance) - Quality: 9.0 (High quality ingredients; gorgeous heavy glass bottle with metal top, great spray and cap) - Presentation: 9.5 (really beautifully diamond shaped bottle, extremely well designed details) - Price: 8.0 (€ 29.5 + taxes for a 100 ml non tester flask) - Average:: 8.54/10.00 between 7 and 8 => above average; between 8 and 9 => recommended; equal or bigger than 9 => don't miss it; Opinion on "Bentley Black Edition": Fresh, clean and blue! I find Bentley Black Edition a less sweet but very interesting member of the BLUE family group of fragrances. Other members include names like Carven L'Eau Intense, Invictus Aqua, Legend Spirit, Hawas, Dylan Blue, Bleu de Chanel, Sauvage, Eros, Mr Burberry, Icon Racing, Mauboussin Private Club, Oxford Bleu and Bentley Black Edition (and many others perfumes besides a legion of clones). Recomended? Yes! - Blind buy worthy? No! - Do try it before.

Nose blindness with this frag is a *REAL* thing! :) I could barely detect it on my neck and had no idea if it was still on. I thought it had horrid performance. However, a few sprays on the crease of my arm before bedtime - and it was still on me when I woke up. How about that? I get nose blind from molecular perfumery IE Molecule 01, and also Terre d'Hermes and Turathi Blue. They are heavy on the aroma chemicals and not much (...if any) naturals. So I make the assumption I get nose blind from aroma chemicals as they stay the same/create linear scents. That's the only issue I have. This is such a classy, nice-smelling fragrance! The opening, altho classy and upscale, is not mindblowing. The other reviews here told me to stick to the course and wait it out. Saying it smells like an expensive soap or shampoo from a very expensive hotel or SPA is cutting it short and doesn't do it justice. There are so many notes here, but it will be very hard for you to pick out any one in particular - they've been blended well. So you get an overall feeling of clean, upscale, masculine leaning soapy/gel opening and mid. As nice as it is, it didn't make me go "Wow". It's pleasant, but not mindblowing. Common. If you're used to niche, complex fragrances you might not find this here at any point. However - as this settles the profile changes to something a little more dense and dare I say... even a slight bit spicy. That common soapiness tones down and some part of it actually goes away. It's warmer now too. I can pick up non-intrusive Violet at this point much easier. In the dry-down this stands out as its own thing - the tonka comes up a little bit more on my skin, combined with a hint of what I assume is an accord emulating insense (perhaps this is where the slight spiciness comes from), and while still easy to wear and pull off, it now has an addicting, alluring quality that I found a great appreciation for and definitely wasn't there on the opening! The problem with these somewhat soapy/fresh make-everyone-happy scents is that they can come off boring and junevile. Not the case here for me! This has some depth - the scent carries more information than your run-of-the-mill freshie or common blue fragrance. I'm a very youthful 36 yo (...hopefully, lol) and I wear this as easily as I'd gift it to a 25 yo, or someone much older than me. I see why people say this might not be for the hottest of weather - the opening leads us to believe this would be great in high heat - over here it's 28-29 C atm and I can tell I can't overspray this. I *can* use it, but not overspray, if that makes sense :) Let's see what happens at 35... TLDR: Considering the <$25 price, I find this to be a very pleasant, sleeper of a fragrance. You won't spray it and go 'OMG WTF WOW'. I have a subtle, quiet appreciation that compounded over time. * Opening is better on paper, worse on skin. * Dry-down is much better on skin, worse on paper. Going noseblind is my only issue. I want this on my skin and not on clothes so I get the better dry-down, but if I spray on the back of my neck (... to avoid nose blindness) I don't get the same projection as on pulse points. Haha. At $24.50 things can't be perfect but all things considered, I'm really satisfied with this purchase.

Welp..."Burberry - Touch" just got booted from the #1 / "Signature Scent" spot!!! This fragrance is A-Grade AMAZING! Absofrigginlutely AMAZING!!! It starts out smelling like "Dior - Sauvage" when sprayed, dries down to "Paco Rabanne - XS" at the mid-stage, then shifts to Dylan Blue for the rest of it's active phase. I can't wai tto see what this dries down to for the end stage, but I will be asleep by the time that hits tonight. Just from these two initial sprays...this thing projects beastly! This is definitely not a fragrance to spray on heavily. 2 sprays is already right on the cusp of being overwhelming on my chest under a t-shirt. Maybe...just maybe 3 sprays under my button down shirt when I'm dressing up for the week to go to work. This is definitely the sweetest smelling fragrance I own. It's JUST like "Paco Rabanne - XS" but better performance and MUCH better projection...holy cow. I remember having to respray XS with 5-6 sprays every 2-3 hours back in 1996 and this is already doubling the time it lasted back then with way less sprays. Just friggin FAN-TASTIC!!! =D The funny thing is that I was actively trying to buy two of the three frags that this one cologne encompasses. I've already acquired "Armaf - Pride" (Sauvage clone) and I'd been working out how to get another bottle of "XS"(1994 version) and a bottle of "Dylan Blue". This saves me SO MUCH money!!! Now I can get "Eros EDP" and "Cool Water Intense" and a backup bottle of this next month instead! No doubt I'm buying a backup bottle before this gets reformulated to death...this frag covers 3 of my favorite scents in one!! Looking forward to wearing it out tomorrow and reporting back after... 19SEP21 Yep...sure enough, it lasted ALL DAY! Got dressed this morning around 0800 and Put 3 sprays on chest, one on neck and one on shirt. I was in a heavenly scent bubble all day! Came home around 1800 and got undressed...scent-cloud came from under my shirt making me smile. The last hoorah of the fragrance for the day...just perfect performance. Now tomorrow we see how it debuts with the public...

Got this at TKMaxx as violet notes interest me and the reviews here mostly seemed promising. I really like it. I find it well balanced even though the violet is prominent. The initial impression (mostly due to the violet, I imagine) is one of a clean-laundry airiness, with perhaps a less obvious dewy aspect. There is also a little earth and perhaps grassiness in the background. The violet does remind me of Parma Violets, but I do not find the perfume especially sweet, probably because the tangerine, though fruity, cuts through the floral vibe. I don't really detect the "sweet notes" listed. Anyway, although I suppose a woman could pull this off--I don't like to be sexist about that anyway--I do think it's conventionally masculine, though not in a brash way. I don't find the violet any more feminine than lavender but do find it more masculine than rose notes. This is not a grannyish or girly scent. It reminds me of all those sporty powdery citric (often lemony) freshies I associate with, say, the mid-'80s, but there's more to it. It is slightly powdery (something I often dislike, but not here, though it did make my nose itch or tingle a little), perhaps a little soapy or barbershop for some (though not fully old skool), definitely quite clean and fresh, but not thin or sterile. Performance seems moderate--fine--though I suspect there may be a nose blindness effect and that the scent may be more obvious to other people than to the wearer. I can see myself wearing this any time from spring to autumn, day or night, except on hot summer days. To me it mostly smells like walking through a meadow on a bright, breezy early summer's morning, before the dew has fully lifted, perhaps when there's been rain and the earth is moist, just far enough downwind of that candy factory in town for it to be impossible to tell whether that obvious violet smell is an artificial one from there.

LOVE THIS! I have close to 110 fragrances to date and 4 other Bentley fragrances and this is definitely in my TOP 10 FAVORITES LIST. This is UNIQUE and opens with a nice spicy tangerine that has just the right amount of floral (violet) that blends beautifully within the first few minutes. For around the first 20+ minutes you literally can pick up on ALL of these notes ... tangerine, nutmeg, pink pepper and violet leaf. It is casually classy and sexy. As far as compliments go ... the ladies like it! After 30 minutes or so you pick up on some noticeable jasmine and patchouli as it kicks in with a little added sweetness to round out the mids. As it starts to go into the drydown it gets a little woody with noticeable cedar and tobacco and a sweet incense. What I love most about this fragrance is that the violet never goes away, but instead just gets a little more powdery. From my perspective ... this really is a slightly sweet, SPICY WOODY FLORAL scent. This is a beautifully crafted fragrance that will last around 6+ hours. I usually spray 5-6 sprays and definitely in the first 2-3 hours ALWAYS lands some compliments. This is not for the kiddies ... probably guys 40+ years will find it to be a better fit. This has solid reviews with a good overall rating but it also seems to be a bit hidden and definitely way overshadowed by Bentley Intense and Absolute. Hopefully it will work out for you ... IT'S A WINNER!

Another stellar fragrance from the house of Bentley. I've had this on my radar for a while and finally picked it up as the price was the cheapest it had been in a while and decided to take a punt on it. I'm so glad I did as the scent itself is pleasant and extremely versatile. It's not massively unique however I do enjoy the versatility of the scent and the stunning woody, violet nuisances that it lends. Performance is not the best but for a versatile scent it still lasts a solid 6hrs on my skin which is more than enough for the majority of situations. It projects well for the first hour or so and then becomes one to be discovered on skin. I am yet to be disappointed by the Bentley for Men line yet and despite this being my least favourite in the line, it is still an amazing scent which just shows how much quality goes into their fragrances. The freshness, violet and woody accords will also make this a mass appealing scent and whilst its not one that is groundbreaking, it still smells great and will be one that a lot of people will enjoy. I have received compliments from my colleagues at work and they find the scent to be an attractive and alluring profile. For the price I got this for (£23 for 100ml) it is a fantastic, versatile scent which will get a lot of use for me despite my collection steadily growing. Definitely worth a blind buy if you enjoy fresh, woody scents.

As with almost all Bentley frags, this was a love! Probably my 2nd favourite after Momentum, Bentley never disappoints! Smells bang on money (not literally). For me its a mixture of bluish and green notes, that work wonderfully together. Has the ambroxany vibe that reminds a little of Dylan Blue but its not that blue to be considered close to it; this is more of a dressed up formal distant cousin that has never met the other. Performance was a little disappointing unfortunately, lasted about 5-6 hours on skin with decent projection for the first 90 mins or so (I am not going nose blind to it). Forms an intimate scent bubble if sprayed on clothes but it doesnt stick to it till the next day, unless you spray multiple times on a single spot and go for a scent hunt sticking you nose to it. Presentation is great, the bottle is good to hold and the cap and overall feel is sturdy; although the sprayer is tiny compared to the body so its a little weird to look at. Overall, this would be a perfect buy if anyone is looking for a signature scent as its insanely versatile and posh smelling, all of which is offered at a decent price. Lalique/Bentley is exceptional in price/quality and this is no exception. Only wished it lasted longer but it is a great buy for what it is. Highly recommended!

This has been a sleeper on my shelf for about two years. Decided to give it another try today, and boy am I glad that I did. Fresh yet sweet, classy and inoffensive. The floral character is balanced with subtle spice for a masculine but not macho overall effect. I can't imagine a time or place where this wouldn't be appropriate. The fragrance is fairly linear and may be susceptible to olfactory fatigue. The worst thing I can say is that it may be a bit boring for people who prefer more challenging scent profiles. But then again, that is probably the reason why it is so versatile. Great for a signature scent. No one else is wearing this, it's cheap, and it's usable year-round. It doesn't smell particularly young or mature. My impression of the scent profile is a businessman of upstanding moral character. This is the guy who picks up the stack of books that the librarian dropped. He's humble, not looking for attention, but he gets it anyway. He's not out on the prowl, he's just a nice guy who pays his bills, drives an economy sedan, and listens when others are speaking. Husband material. Snatch him up, ladies, he's a keeper. Performance: I sprayed it on this morning at 7:00 AM, around noon I still have a respectable scent bubble and sillage.

Update to my original review... This is, quite literally, the 1996 formulation of "Paco Rabanne - XS" that came in the clear glass bottle with flip-top. However, it also dries down to a more floral-incensy version of "Versace - Dylan Blue". It does not project or last as long as Dylan Blue though..coming in just half an hour shorter, but the flavor of this fragrance is much MUCH more... Complicated? Deep? Interesting? I don't intend to disrespect "Dylan Blue", because I love it too...but "Bentley - Black" has a little bit more character, personality and flavor development than "Dylan Blue" does. It's a toss up for me. Heading out to an outdoor event on the weekend at day.....Dylan Blue. Heading out to an outdoor event on the weekend at night.....Bentley Black. Yes...yes, I believe that's perfect. Daytime and nighttime variants of the same kind of smoky-blue fragrance. Perfect. EDIT: My father wore a fragrance with the same incense-violet notes as this one...back in the early 80's. He wore it clear through into the early 90's so it must have been something commonplace. I need to ask him what that fragrance was. This one reminds me of weekend visits to his house and him with his tobacco pipe and that cologne...

#426 in my "Tour de Fragrance" If you've smelled Montale Arabians Tonka it's a lot like this. Like you layered Montblanc Legend EDP with Mancera Wind Wood. I own those scents and like them a lot. The opening is a bit much on the amber, nutmeg and tonka which combined give it a very vanillic tone even though there isn't any. So it could benefit from more citrus and earthiness, especially more moss, and if I got all my Christmas wishes they'd swap the violet for iris. It's nevertheless a great scent. But, if you're not a fan of the dozens of vanilla-forward scents out there, you probably won't care for this either. It's a very strong projector and more long lasting than most scents in this price range, so don't overdo it. This is one of those scents where a hint is sexy and a lot means no sex for you. And soap and water barely touch this stuff. If you go light you could get by with this in most settings. If you don't go light you'll drive folks out of the room. This stuff can be room filling, lasts about 5 hours, which exceeds my "makes it to lunch" standard for a keeper, and at $24, like every Bentley EDP, it's an insane bargain! Good hunting!

@RafaMillen1129 If you are new to building a collection and reviewing you really screwed the pooch on this review. This particular brand is amazing and this particular scent is a keeper. Since you are new, here is some advice: Don't review a fresh bottle on the first spray. Use it a few days then let it rest a while and then come back to it. - letting air into the bottle by using it helps it grow and macerate. It improves. Understand that some scent YOU will become anosmic to. Just because you can't smell it doesn't mean that others can't. Understand that skin type can affect the way the perfume performs and even smells. Spraying on skin and cloth can change things. It is up to you to discover what works for you. This Bently line is very good in quality and performance. I suggest you set it aside for a month and then come back to it. I think you will like it and the rest of the line.

Candied/juicy tangerine with a violet heart and mossy dry down. This fragrance had subtle layers and changes at the midpoint 3hr mark when the moss kicks in. It's bright, clean and great out the shower. I get no incense and little patchouli, I've noticed that fragrances do tend to smell sweeter on me than compared to what many here describe. This is the brightest and sweetest fragrance compared to the other Lalique/Bentley fragrances I own. Where some people compare to Dylan Blue and Drakkar or Aventus, I was hoping for something similar but no. Instead on my skin this is a smoother Le Parfait and Tres Nuit (both Armaf) and Cool Water OG too. I actually was looking for Tres Bon by Armaf which I had sampled and regretted not buying but the ingredients and blend here are better. Nothing new, but really well done and no regrets on my blind buy.

I don't have much to say other than I think this is a great scent for the price. I got mine in a rack store and was pleased instantly with the purchase. Out of the three bentleys that I've tried, this is my favorite, but I will say that if you don't like violet (one of my favorite notes), then avoid this because it's a violet bomb. Its like a toned down Fahrenheit with a little bit of cool water, and it has some similarity to Wind wood by mancera but not as aggressive and without the creamy note. As far as longevity is concerned I have no issues, as it easily lasts 7+ hours on my skin with a consistent scent bubble. Honestly it's one of the best sub 30 dollar fragrances I own. Edit: its gotten stronger, the longevity on this is pretty crazy as I am getting around 9-10 hours easily. Worth it's price and then some.

I'll return to give this a full review, but just bought this from a Burlington nearby. I smelled this before today and loved it, but never pulled the trigger until today. Excellent decision! This is one I could wear very often as it's versatile being worn in the spring, summer, and fall. I'm not sure how strong this is yet. To my nose, the violet is the star is this show. The way it blends with the other notes is amazing! Violet isn't a note I typically look for, but it works wonders in this fragrance. I also got Absolute in this same haul and to me the Black is better scent wise...although I really dig that woodiness in Absolute too. I had to sing it's praises as soon as I smelt this. Will be back with a full review after testing performance.

Don't let the bottle fool you, this fragrance does not match the bottle. Think of Polo Black. This is a very fresh fragrance with a bit of spice. It lasts a long time time and is a more mature blue fragrance. It is pleasing and certainly with the money. Being a EDP is a bonus! This cologne could be a signature scent and does complete with the more expensive guys. I personally find it smells better than the fresh Perfums de Marly fresh scents like Sedley. This fragrance reminds me of Polo Black. This is an office or classroom scent. There is nothing ground breaking here or unique, but if you want a nice fresh blue fragrance, this is for you. And it is cheap! It performs better than the big boys!

Full disclosure, I love this one. I'm relatively new to perfume and have covid nose but I have no idea what people are talking about when they say this is generic or smells like everything else. It smells pretty unique to me and I'm fairly sure I'd be able to pick this out of a crowd, even with my nose. I have this and Gentleman Only, they do the same thing but I think they do smell a bit different. Both have a woody accord. Both, I would say are unique in their own right. I believe this could be worn anywhere, day and night. This is a great value, I will buy another bottle of this. I was expecting to only buy one bottle of this but I'm really considering using this at work.

I got this fragrance October 2024. The smell is still excellent as it was when I first sprayed it, but the longevity either has improved or this fragrance just does better with some heat. Very good projection for the first 2 hours, with about 9.5 to 10 hours of longevity off my skin. If one sentence describes this fragrance, it smells like the grown-up, more adult version of the Aventus DNA/umbrella lol. Instead of that bright pineapple, it's tangerine and pink pepper. Exchange that metallic edge for the papyrus and violet. Aventus is in the nightclubs, this slows things down in something like a lounge lol. Projection: 8 Longevity: 9 Scent: 10 Price: 10 Overall: 9.25

I L🥰😍🥰😊VE the Smell of Bentley the Black Edition. Last summer someone had on Bentley in the work environment and it smelled awful to me. I asked what it was that a worker had on and they told me and i said to myself that is not meant for the summer, that is a Winter and Fall fragrance indeed. So a couple of days ago I was at JCPenny's and the Fragrance Vendor said to me Oh I got one for you and i said what is it and she said Bentley Black and immediately I told her nah I dont like that and explained to her why she said oh he had on Bentley this is Bentley Black then when I smelled it I was captivated. This is a NUMBER ☝🏾ONE Cold Seasoned Banger For Sure!!!👏🏾💙💙💙
