Betsey Johnson

LOUDLY 'BETSEY.' This scent really represents Betsey Johnson well, and although we could have done without the garish hot-pink plastic cap, in some ways it's part of the charm as a nod to Betsey's hot-pink hair. But that's easily discarded if necessary, and the solid glass bottle has a nice weight to it. This needs some time for the true scent to develop in dark storage after first sprays for a new bottle - a few weeks/months. Before that you may get a strange vibe (some get bug spray), but once it matures and the vanilla ages a little bit it's actually really nice. Opens with a tart, sour burst of fruits that altogether evoke sour cherry for me. It then continues and deepens into a floral heart where the sour cherry softens and sweetens but maintains the 'red' fruit vibe, all resting on gourmand base. In the base I get a dark-chocolate-praline and a traditional amber, with shades of wood and a slight muskiness. Sometimes I get a little patchouli, and although it's not listed, it's probably involved in building the praline. This has amazing performance, but with that comes along a 'Betsey' loudness that won't be for everyone, but after the opening it's much more crowd pleasing. For comparisons, this is like a layer of Amor Amor Cacharel opening for a layer of Fantasy Britney Spears heart, all riding on a layer of Black XS For Her Paco Rabanne. Fans of Black XS who've been frustrated with performance might like this. Overall: Loud & beautiful. Personally, this isn't an everyday scent for me, but it would be perfect with my Betsey Johnson red-patent leather platform sandals with the woven espadrille-like stillettos. For what it is, it's a love for me. Enjoy!

I've been a fan of Betsey for almost 20 years now. My first purse as a teen was one of hers, countless jewelry & she was so extravagant and out there, I just loved everything about her. I've never tried any of her fragrances but I saw the big ass bottle for less than $10 & couldn't pass it up. I was expecting a lighter version of a juicy couture fragrance and while it is similar, this is in its own league. On my skin it opens with literal grapefruit, as if I'm eating one, and honestly for the first 10 or so minutes that's all I smelled & just figured I'd be able to pair it with another and still get some use out of it. Half an hour later the floral notes came forward with the grapefruit still in tow. After it dried down oh my goodness ! It's sweet, a little fruity & floral with the most beautiful praline amber base. It'd the dry down that smells similar to JC to me but it's the fact that I can still smell the citrus with it that makes it just so beautiful. I still haven't found anything that I would pair it with because I love it so much by itself. It lasts around 6 or so hours on my skin & lasts on the clothes I spray it on until the next time I wash them. Found that out when I left a hoodie in my car & a little over a week later grabbed it to bring in to wash it and it was still there! Not as intense as it was when first sprayed but I immediately knew what perfume it was. Its such a good spring & summer scent! I've worn it to the lake and can still smell it on my body after swimming. Highly recommend. Editing to add : the thinner plastic designed part of the cap is easily removable with scissors leaving just a hot pink small cap & looks so much better!

I just got my 3.4 oz bottle I ordered online, in the mail today. I tore it open and spritzed some on, and right away it smelled familiar. I went up to my room, and sniffed a few bottles of perfume, and sure enough, it smells almost identical to Jessica Simpson's Fancy (the original one), at least to my nose. It's sweet and alluring, and I love it! Although they smell similar, I will be keeping both, since my 1.7 oz bottle of Fancy is about half gone, now I don't have to worry about being without the lovely scent. I will say that Betsey Johnson is a slightly lighter scent of the 2, and since I have a bigger bottle of it, I will be wearing this alot before the warm weather comes. I think this fragrance might be too sweet for summer, but I'll give it a try on a day I won't be leaving the house, so I won't offend anyone. Edit: After wearing this scent more, I am seeing that my original comparison to JS Fancy was a bit off. I did have a slight cold when I first got this perfume, so my nose was playing tricks on me. I think the pear, amber & sandalwood combined have a similar effect, but not enough for them to be anywhere near identical. I do love this scent, and I will be wearing it much more frequently. It lasts so long on my skin & clothes, and my hubby really seems to like it on me, as well as my kids. It's definitely a keeper. :)

I got this for nostalgic reasons, went into Ross on a whim looking for it and there was only one available discounted to $10! WOW. It actually holds up since I wore it to cotillion in the 8th grade. (Although the juice is now clear and not that yellow shade it used to be) I’m not a gourmand girly, but this really scratches the itch for something sweeter in my collection. It’s definitely a caramel (praline) apple type of smell, but the amber and florals give it a perfumey quality so it’s not quite edible smelling. Although it’s sweet, it’s still fairly light and fresh. I get a powdery cashmere musk as it dries down, but that nutty sweetness is ever so present throughout. (This also has that slightly plasticky dollhead note that so many frags had in this era iykyk) Very feminine and likeable. Perfect as a pick me up scent any season. Update: this has become a go-to comfort scent and it’s more than the nostalgia. It’s the warmest fruitiest powdery scent cloud. It’s actually one of my husband’s favorites and he’s usually drawn to my powerhouse sexy patchouli scents. There’s something about this that just brings me joy but it also smells deliciously sexy.

I am fully obsessed with this fragrance! The bottle is beautiful. The shape of the clear bottle is to die for. The shape actually makes it very easy to hold. I think the cap is pretty, but very flimsy and cheap - I just know it's a matter of time before I accidentally break it. The scent...THE SCENT. It's like candied nuts, tart berries, tasty apples and pears, warm woods, and amber...and a touch of orange chocolate, too. I love fruity, delicious scents, typically. I always say "I don't like to smell like a dessert." This one has so many foodie elements, but it doesn't smell like a dessert still. They blend together flawlessly. It's girly and sweet, but still spicy, musky, sexy, and sophisticated in my opinion. This one is ideal for colder months because the base notes sit heavy on the skin, but it feels like it would be a great fragrance for a warm summer night, too. Lasts about 8 hours. Great for a girl in her twenties. It has been boyfriend-approved, too. He loves candy-like scents, but this one is more sexy and edgy. I bought this for $12 at TJ Maxx. SO worth the money. I wish I'd picked it up sooner.

I absolutely adore this fragrance. It is amazing..it is citrus and vanilla but its not really even its prailine combined with the pear..this is just as good as L by Lolita lempicka but better or a different take on citrus spiced vanilla/cake scent..the bottle is girly different for sure.. but its the juice that has me excited its one of those make me happy perfect for Christmas fragrances..i bought two bottles of this stuff i love it that much and my bigger bottle i got on discount and its from 2011 and it has aged well where it smells even better than my newer bottle..this is a total me fragrance..its citrus,its spicy and its sweet like cake topped off that it has amber as well which i always like..this is going on my tops..and its priced incredibly low i cant believe it..i hadnt even left the store and the two ladies that work there were complimenting me wanting to know what i sprayed..this is the best version i have had yet besides L and besides Flowerbomb. One note of advice this is intense so don't spray close to your neck i would say on chest or inside elbows its that strong..well worth your money.

I sniffed this one at nordstroms rack and was intrigued about a year ago. Just bought a 1.0 from Ross for $11 and it was a good decision. On my skin it's woody, sweet, and spicy. I don't have a trained nose so I can't pick out the exact notes. I love love loooove the way it smells on me but the lasting power and siliage aren't the greatest. However, that's kinda nice for a day that you feel like re applying a few times. Sometimes it makes me feel luxurious to spritz a few times a day. For that reason though it probably won't be my go-to fragrance. When it's in my purse (it has to be because I need to re apply) the top/lid takes up a lot of space and feels like it will break if it's handled too roughly. Long story short, I love how it smells and I'm happy to own it. Not signature fragrance worthy for ME, but I reccomend trying it out! Update- My boyfriend always has something nice to say about this scent! I also have gotten a lot of compliments from people I know and people I don't know. Even though the lasting power isn't great it has become one the favorites in my collection.

This fragrance is my biggest exception, my one ultra-girly fruity floral. It's the flirtiest, juiciest gourmand. So very unlike the other fragrances I have! I have been wearing it since 2007, and one of the few perfumes where I keep going back for another bottle. This is by no means my signature, but I love it during the summer and when I get out of the shower. The bottle is adorable, but like many others, the cap can be a real pain in the ass, so I throw it out. However, the design is sooo Betsey Johnson. I love how unapologetically eccentric she is! The fruit notes and the base notes are equal to each other; they aren't competing but working beautifully together to maintain a wonderfully sweet treat radiating off of you for hours. Nope, I'll never grow out of this one. I'll always be a teenager at heart for as long as this perfume is available. You could liken this one to Vera Wang Princess and Juicy Couture's Viva la Juicy, but those were boring and lacking depth compared to this one.

This is what I expected Reb'l Fleur to be. I had never heard of Betsey Johnson, and passed this scent by time after time, but the reviews here convinced me it was worth a blind (discount) buy...and it is quite delightful! At first, as others have said, it is light, sweet and juicy, but not cloying at all. Then it gradually deepens with a sweetly woody floral note that eventually becomes a soft, but rich, spicy, amber, praline with just a touch of patchouli. It takes time to move through its varies levels, but each is so pleasant and interesting. On me, it becomes almost a skin scent in just a few hours, 4 or 5 maybe, so the sillage and duration are not quite as strong as I'd wish. But there is no problem respraying, since it just doesn't have an obnoxious note in its repertoire. It is not a "serious" perfume, but it is really enjoyable and from what I read, very close in spirit to Betsey Johnson herself. The bottle, however, is really silly.

I've been a fan of Betsey Johnsons' designs for a very long time so how I've waited so long to purchase one of her perfumes is beyond me. In fact, I wish I hadn't waited so long because this type of scent is one of my favorites - musky, woodsy, vanilla and praline. If you are not a fan of sweet notes like vanilla and praline being mixed with sandalwood or musk, I would say to stay away from this scent. It's actually really well-blended but the musk and sandalwood are really present. I don't smell amber but that's OK because I love this just the way it is. Sweet but not cloying. Musky but not too musky. And woodsy but not too earthy. It has the best of everything and the notes really work well together to give this scent a great balance. Sillage is good and longevity is great on skin, amazing on clothing. If you can find this one at a great price like I did, grab it! It's so lovely and more unique than I expected.

This bottle is pure kitsch and I love it for that. It's a chunky little thing that you can grip in the middle quite comfortably with this huge pink topper, so very BJ style. I own two of her perfumes and each are polar opposites. When I'm in the mood for a true foodie perfume, no hesitation in reaching for Betsey Johnson. It's a sweet delight that I enjoy. It's strong, and I love it for that, but I can make it lighter with the right application. It all depends on how I want to wear this perfume. That's what I really appreciate about this gourmand. Musky along with woods that goes on for hours? What more could I ask for? It's fun, carefree and a great pick-me-up. Cooler weather preferred if wearing in public, otherwise, wear it to your hearts desire and spritz away. Grapefruit, pear and apple slices garnishing a plate of chocolate pralines...that's what Betsey Johnson is all about.

I will never forget the first time that I had the pleasure of smelling this wonderful perfume! A relative had bought it for themselves from the mall, and they were kind of "on the fence" about it. I thought the bottle and box were waaaay over the top! I don't even think the boxes are made with the velvet they use to apply to the outside boxes lol. I knew who Betsey Johnson was, and just like the perfume design and box it comes in, she is definitely "over the top!". This scent blew my mind, it is everything in a perfume that I love. Its fruity, floral, spicy, and sweet. Anytime I run out of this, I HAVE to have another bottle. I really hope that they never discontinue this! I don't think I have a "signature scent" but if I did, I would have to say it would be this one! 10/10 for me, there is a little bit of everything in this scent! It will never get old to me.

I got this as a sample with a Sephora purchase in 2009. I first wrote the scent off thinking it was just another fruity floral, so I left the top of the sample vial off and left it in my room. Oh man. In the subsequent hours and days and weeks, it made my room glow with scent. It's definitely a pink scent, bright with citrus and soft pear, and what's great is that the scent story weaves in and around different notes throughout the day. The praline note is light and flirty and creates a heart around which the sparkling fruits and soothing florals interplay. I think I've always subconsciously been looking for this scent since then, and when I remembered the designer--Betsey Johnson!! I hurriedly ordered, hoping it would be the same scent I remembered. When the perfume arrived, I felt COMPLETE. I'm so happy with it. I hope this never gets discontinued.

I had seen this at Rexall and tried it, at first I wasn't sure if I liked it. I had other perfumes on different areas. It started out very different, couldn't quite place what I smelled that I kept sniffing the spot where I sprayed. I went home and several hours later I sniffed that spot again and I am in love. I hurried up went back to pick it up, but realized it had no box...?? tester. I picked up pink sugar sensual 30mL as a blind buy. I went to the cashier and she couldn't scan it it had no code. She called the manager to see if they had any in the back...nope... I scored the samll tester for free. The only thing is there was maybe a 1/4 gone. The plastic pink top is hideous no matter how fun the designer may be. I read all the reviews being leary of the end result. I love it. I am going to have to search to buy some more!!!!

This has been a signature scent of mine for many years, and I've had repeat purchases of it. I think I've gone through about 4 or 5 bottles of it now. On me, it gives me a vanilla buttercream and slight musk scent. It's very warm and comforting and just a little spicy. It sometimes reminds me of Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male. I did have one bottle that didn't smell like the others I purchased. It was strange, it didn't give off nearly as much warmth and kinda went old lady on me. But all my other bottles have been lovely. I did recently purchase Juicy Couture Gold Couture. I do find these two scents very similar to be honest. They are still different enough, but very similar in a warm, spicy, gourmand way. This Betsey Johnson fragrance lasts much longer though, and I get many compliments on it from strangers.

I managed to snag this one cheap at TJ's or Ross or The Rack, and it was a blind buy. I was drawn by the crazy bottle (that lid, man!!) and the mostly great reviews. And I figured, for $15, I can't go wrong, right? Well...I was actually hesitant to try it after that, thinking, "What if it's TOO sweet on my skin?"..... I threw caution to the wind and put it on yesterday before heading out to catch a movie and I could NOT stop sniffing myself. I smelled edible. Why doesn't this gorgeous gourmand get discussed more often? I got oodles of sweet (but not cloying) praline, woods, and amber for about 12 hours on my skin (3 sprays). I literally smelled like dessert. It was SO GOOD. And not in a cheap way, not synthetically, just in a wonderful way. This one might be a cheap thrill, but it's well worth picking up!

I love this perfume! I probably reach for it more than any other in fall and winter! I don’t get much fruit, maybe a hint of black currant and orange, no flowers, well perhaps a hint of Lily of the valley. It’s all praline, amber, sandalwood, musk, cashmere and cedar! Those base notes are divine! When I first spray it, it does have that strong alcohol smell, but my bottle is at least 10 years old. I threw the tacky cap away long ago! I used to see this a lot at Ross, but haven’t for awhile! Hopefully I can find it again, but good to see there are similar options above! Amor, Amor is one that has been on my list to try forever! This is my signature! It’s a little spicy, but not too spicy where it will offend anyone and sexy! I will always have this as long as I can find it and it’s reasonably priced!

Its funny how others compare this fumes sweetness to LVEB. LVEB is sweetness overload, these two don't even come close. I bought this because of some reviews here that said its a strong perfume and lasts a long time. I find BJ subtle. When you smell it from the bottle its divine. A very beautiful scent. This is more like Britney spears fantasy. I don't like fantasy but for some reason I will be keeping this one. I had to spray liberally(like 10 sprays)for me to smell it on myself. This is a skin scent with moderate longevity, I cant really tell with sillage. After a few hours it gets musky and gives off a soft gourmand smell. Its in those moments you realize its a keeper. Not super impressive but definitely lovely. The bottle and cap?? so tacky..I hate them!

This brings to mind Jessica Simpson's Fancy and Guess by Marciano. In the beginning, I smell a bit of both at different times.I think anyone liking these two creations may enjoy this scent also. Currant to me is like a good vanilla, heavy, sexy, but doesn't give off that granny vibe many people comment on when vanilla is present. I hate the top...and love it the same amount! The dime store effect has always brought a smile to my face, and probably always will. I can totally understand the negative reviews, but this is just a fun and happy little rebel to have. If your not delighted with your purchase...well hells bells...I've lost 20 bucks before and lived through it, you'll be ok! It's an elixir for several of my personalities. Good job Betsy!

One of the few perfumes I’ve loved enough to buy multiple times over. I’ve used at least 3 bottles and halfway through my 4th and I’ve got probably near 100 scents or so. But I consistently grab for this one days when I don’t know what to wear but want to smell pretty. My skin pulls heavy on the praline, almost caramel smelling on me. One of my most complimented frags so it must just work with me. I don’t get any of the “bug spray/Raid” scent that someone below mentioned. Maybe an “off” bottle??? I don’t see how this could offend anyone. It’s a sweet gourmand kind of scent with phenomenal lasting power. I’ll get compliments in the evening after a long day when I even forgot I put it on that morning. Definitely will always be in my collection.
