Yippee 🥳! I was able to hunt down this little beauty and just received it!! I wore this back in the day! I’m slowly but surely tracking down the scents I’ve worn through the years! It still smells exactly as I remember after all these years! It’s a bit spicy, a bit classy, a bit boss lady! I used to get so many compliments on this scent. I’ve been struggling with chypre scents of late, but this one has just a touch of the oak moss note I’ve been struggling with. This definitely can be worn in the cooler weather now. There’s a part of me that doesn’t want to use it up since it’s discontinued. There’s another part of me that wants to rock this beauty! I enjoyed this line, Hot being my no. 1, then Basic black no.2, and lastly Nude. I find it so strange that Nude is the only one still available. If my memory serves me correctly, that was the least popular in the line, at least in my area. Perhaps that’s the one with remaining stock, I’m not sure. But I’m so grateful I was able to track this down at a good price and reminisce about 1991 for a while! I’m sure my husband won’t love it, but that’s quite alright! I love it! It’s such a gem and such a fun throwback for me to have!

I agree with Planet_X! This is very similar to my Shocking mini. Shocking is heavier on the rose, soapier and more resinous. Hot has a stronger honey note and starts with a medicinal blast of bitterness, which I enjoy. I do suspect Shocking itself must have had a greener opening, with tarragon and bergamot listed on the pyramid, but most of its top notes are probably already gone. I get A LOT of honey from Hot, it overpowers the rose. But I feel my skin tends to project honeyed notes more intensely. And I love honey in perfume, so it's not a problem to me. Hot is currently my favorite cheapie. It doesn't last long before it becomes a skin scent, but I wouldn't mind reapplying if I had to. It's a pleasant scent that manages not to be boring.

I am a huge fan of Bill Blass fragrances ever since 1991, I have worn Nude for eons the vintage (Prestige formula) was the first formula and by far the best. I love Nude I own a bottle but sadly I have gotten tired of it atm!! Hot by BB, I’m also head over hills for the (Prestige Formula only) first formula is freaking incredible. It smells so good and last so long nothing like the (First American version) that version is fleeting if you want a quality fragrances with wonderful longevity and smell fierce and unique, find the original formula it’s so good man I love it❤️ Now i need to try Basic Black and find it in original formula and see how good that one is I’m guessing I’ll probably love it!! Hot is GORGWAH✔️

LoLately I've discovered some gems thanks to the comments and the notes posted here in Fragrantica. Unfortunately, Hot is not one of them. It is not a bad fragrance, but it is not distinctive, unique, out of the ordinary. It smells OK, like a fair quality soap. My favorite notes: honey. carnation, incense, oakmoss, rose, etc, etc, are all there, but somehow the sum of all these in Hot just says Camay, Palmolive. I'm still going to wear it, at least I'll smell clean. LATEST UPDATE. I bought the vintage perfume and it is a great scent. I assume that my first bottle, that I described above was a reformulation....of course.

i am testing from a vintage vial, and at first i get something sweet, almost plum like, along with a dusty patchouli. i think the sweetness might just be tuberose and honey. i get some soft cinnamon here as well. it smells great close up but even better wafting from afar where the notes blend seamlessly. dries down to a gorgeous, warm amber floral. i may need a full bottle of this. (and call me crazy but i swear it's a bit reminiscent of memoir by amouage...one of my all time favorites. maybe a further sampling will discredit this statement but for now, that's my statement.)

I was so happy to find hot at marshalls. I remember when it came out in the late eighties along with nude and black. At the time I was too young to wear such a sophisticated sexy fragrance. I forgot its beautiful essence until my recent purchase. I love it so much it reminds me of fall and aromas of honey with cinnamon leaves. Highly recommended!!!!!!!

This is a really nice dupe of Samsara. Great bottle and a quality cap, amazing value for money. Curious about other fragrances from this company. Edit: The top notes might not be that impressive but in the heart notes the florals kick in on a warm spicy oakmoss woody base and I get that 'wow' moment. One of my work perfumes at wintertime.

Wow... So reminiscent of church ladies and/or family holiday gatherings in the 80's. I can't say Ioved this type of fragrance back then but I sure do right now. I get a (surprisingly) smooth, spiced, honeyed tuberose. I will be wearing this one when the temps come down in the autumn.

This is a really nice one. I had a science teacher who wore it, and I bought it for my mother. I've recently found it at discount stores and have purchased a bottle for myself even. It reminds me of junior high and of my mom. Simply lovely! The Black and the Nude were great too.

One of my favorites. Honey note is wonderful.I found mine at Marshall's for 14.99. I hope to get Black and nude to compare.

Way back, I wrote a review on Maxims de Paris and made a reference to my eighth grade homeroom teacher, Anita Clarke. When I spritzed Bill Blass HOT onto my skin Friday morning before work, I wondered where on earth I had smelled this gorgeous fragrance and it hit me today (five days later) that this was very, very similar in structure to Maxims de Paris. Looking at the notes, I now see why. The two share many of the same notes, though in different layers. With HOT, I get that fantastic carnation/honey mist that was so prevalent, circa 1985 in so many of those "powerhouse" frags. Alas, like my review of Maxim's de Paris, this fragrance did not hang around long. It was wonderful when applied, but within the hour it was gone. I think I will get creative and try to layer the two just to see if I can get any staying power out the combination. I'd hate to have these in my collection and not wear them because they are so wonderful, luxurious and on my skin comforting and warm. I love the amber in both of these, too-not a sweet, sugar amber, but that "lounging around the fireplace in my angora sweater" amber. The oakmoss is what I contribute the nicely balancing 'green' note to in both perfumes, but with Maxim's it's in a greater concentration and it's the note that stands out in my vintage bottle. ***ADD*** Upon wearing this again today 11/02, I layered this with the lotion, which had very little, if any fragrance in it. I also sprayed each layer of my clothing and skin, hoping for something to cement this fragrance to-that was 3 hours ago and I am back to smelling faint whiffs of this from my hair only. I have to shove my face down my shirt to get any sign of this being on me. Today, my chemistry has this warming up as a smoky, spiced honey that I kept thinking on my way to work would be delicious in tea. It was that kind of sweet-very mild and fragrant. I could imagine cracking open a jar of honey and this smell wafting up from the bottle. Very, very nice and comforting to say the least. These are both fragrances that, for some, may be considered 'dated' with notes we don't see a great deal in the 21st century, but I like both of these frags and once I find a solution to the longevity problem, I'll wear this (and MDP) regularly. I ordered the HOT body lotion and am hoping that will help with the issue. This was a good find, at a good price. $4.99 USD for a 1.3 oz atomizer. I also ordered another bottle on an auction site in a lot of 4 different frags for what ended up coming to about $6.00 USD. Great price for a juice that has amazing potential...if I can just get it to stick around!

This smells like something my late Grandmother and Aunt would have enjoyed--had they known about it! Not a bad thing at all. I enjoy vintage and vintage smelling fragrances. As a matter of fact, I have dedicated this whole week to only wearing fragrances that are 20 years old and older. This fragrance, Hot, transports you right to the time period of coming out of the eighties, straight into the 90s. This is the perfect fragrance for reminiscing about this special time period. My nose picks up several notes listed above, but the cinnamon, incense, and patchouli definitely are prominent. Hot is woody and earthy, yet sophisticated. It has a slight sweetness, but it is not a whimsical fragrance. Does Hot smell dated? Yes, yes, and yes!!! It is a nice break from the sugary-pancake and cotton candy fragrances of today. It has a Calvin Klein Obsession vibe with the spicy, earthiness. Longevity is outstanding, literally beast mode. The dry down is elegant and provides a sultry, sensual scent bubble. This is definitely not a safe blind buy. Hot is for the no-nonsense woman, who is secure, and classy. In my opinion, it is best suited for women who are of a more mature age, or a fragrance collector.

More oriental in style than chypre... although there is a little oakmoss lending its dry, mentholated woodiness, the notes of benzoin (not listed) and vanilla predominate with their inherent sweetness and nag champa agarbatti reference. Tuberose is the main player in the heart, supported by rose, jasmine (not listed), carnation, just a touch of aldehydes... and all slathered with an interesting honey-cinnamon combo that vibes with the vanilla in way that reminds me of Spanish flan... gourmand-leaning... but not achingly sweet; this is 1991 leading up to Angel (1992). Reminds me a bit of Cacharel's 'Lou Lou' (1987) in tone, but MUCH lighter. Sillage remains on the soft side. Even though I sprayed lots, it functions more like a skin-scent; long-lasting on me (~12+ hours), but I prefer heavier fragrances. Sweet vanilla, dry-woody contrasts, narcotic floral, delicate spices.

I a wearing an older version of this. It is wonderful. Yes, it is a floriental but with the carnation it isn't what you expect like a Rumba or Ciara or Opium. The two main competing notes are carnation and oakmoss. It is VERY woody. The top was a burst of aldehydes, green notes, lime, carnation and oakmoss. The tuberose is there along with cinnamon, sandalwood and bay. As it dries down, the musk and patchouli assert themselves to lift the carnation and oakmoss. There are amber and cedar present but in a vintage way, not in a resinous or pencil shavings niche way. This is terrific. I wish the oakmoss was a little less and the carnation a little more. I wouldn't call this honeyed at all. It's a bit herbacious, as well as dry and woody in the middle then settles into carnation, oakmoss and cinnamon in base. Oriental.

I liked this 20 years ago and I wore it then, or I should say that it probably wore me as I was quite a young lady at the time. This screams of sensuality and the name indicates that it is intended to be a siren of a perfume. The cinnamon is a standout note here, but I can also get a bit of tuberose and that note usually kills me, but here it is as expertly blended in just as it is in Avon's Candid. So it is not too sweet or cloying. I find the staying power of this to be not so good and for that I am quite disappointed. The bottle that I have now seems to be the same formula as it was 20 years ago. I was extremely pleased to have found it.

Holy HONEYED Moly! It is almost scandalous with this honey overdose! Smells almost like a good old civet, but it is very common similarity: civet = oakmoss + musk + good dose of honey. I can see where the name "Hot" is coming from *nodding*. It is like Shocking Schiaparelli reincarnated. The development smells a bit like a brandy butter, - rich, spiced up, I can smell bay leaf here really well and it is kind of cool. Very warm and woody base, mainly musk and amber on me, but it does smells daring and RED! I will try to mix it with some fruity attars, should be easier to pull it off for everyday use! like it a lot!

Bill Blass Hot is woody, warm, and spicy with oakmoss, carnation, cinnamon, and amber. I only get a little bit of honey. Bill Blass Basic Black is also supposed to have a prominent honey note, but I don't really detect it in that one either. I prefer this over Basic Black and would also like to get Nude to complete the trio.

I'm sorry, but I don't like this at all. It seems ok to an extent, but there is something so plastic or chemical in it that I can't appreciate it. I was expecting it to be a honey, incense, rich perfume, but it ended up smelling like not much honey if any at all, and a bit like an old-fashioned floral. Mixed with chemicals. I also swear I smell a ton of peach, but I don't see it in the notes, so I don't know what is giving it a tang that does not agree with me either. I just think it's a "hot mess."

I am a little disappointed. This one smells so much like Basic Black. It's not horrible but not what I expected. Looks like Nude is the winner of this trio. I just don't see using this very often. Anyone interested and wanna trade? I just sprayed it a few times.

My first thought upon the completion of the development of the fragrance was that it's wearable as both a woman's Oriental perfume as well as a man's cologne. It's a chypre with a base and foundation of notes that are strong and amazing, notes that I've come to love as a perfume psycho. I love the sandalwood, the oak moss, the cedar, the amber, the incense and musk. Each of those base notes are really keeping it together and are notes that ought to be in every perfume because it makes the scent longer lasting and more full bodied. In addition there are notes that I love in women's perfumes: aldehydes, tuberose, roses, lily of the valley, jasmine, and honey. The opening is of aldehydes and they're not layered with other notes besides a light citrus courtesy of a bergamot orange note. The perfumy orange scent is really nice but it doesn't get stuck into "fruit". Before long the aldehydes have worn off and the floral notes emerge. There's a carnation and rose scent that smells green, dark, not too deep, but impressive. There's jasmine and tuberose so it has a white floral body as well. But the flowers are not the main attraction. They seem to provide the scent with a sweetness and a touch of femininity and even a little soapiness that it needs. The cinnamon spice note is an inspired touch. The cinnamon is totally detectable and provides the scent with the spiciness it needs. But wait. To make it even more spicy and aromatic - a bay leaf! I love the scent of bay leaves and shrubs. There's a patchouli in here as well, and with the bay leaf joining it, turns into a green bushy, earthy scent I like. At this point it has abandoned the flowers and become a green patchouli bush. A sandalwood and cedar wood come together. The chypre would be nothing without the oak moss and this moss is not too heavy but detectable nonetheless. Then there's incense, not heavy smoke, nothing like Yves Saint Laurent Opium, but clearly an incense. The amber note is also present and it's gooey, resinous, dark and honeyed. There is a honey scent that is married to the amber so that ultimately this fragrance becomes one big honey amber. If you like honey and amber chances are you'll love this perfume. It does not project with a blast and it's subtle and more of a man's soap type of scent. It has just enough notes to enjoy and to catch whiffs of it through your day. It matches up with casual clothes because it's truly more of a good soap on the skin and can be worn with everyday clothes. You can put it on to work and it won't cause co-workers to put on gas masks. The honey and amber take over at the end, leaving behind the florals and the woods and that's my favorite part. Yes this is a cheap or should I say affordable scent but it's well-composed and marvelous. The bottle looks the same as the others in the Bill Blass line: Nude and Basic Black, but this scent is the simplest and less opulent of the two. It's a simple casual honeyed amber soap. Lovely!
