Petal Jus

I was so incredibly excited to receive my discovery set from Binaurale, which contains their six current fragrances. For each fragrance, I have done a blind smell test, only after thoroughly taking in the scent and determining a true and thoughtful opinion, I will review the notes. After this test, I have worn each scent for a full day, one by one, all on their own. No layering. Final day, final scent. Honestly, when I did my first blind smell test, this one stood out to me the least, and I'm not sure why, because on my skin the Vinyl and Condensed milk come out so perfectly together, it is such a strange yet enticing scent, it really captivates this Indie vibe. Now, that Vinyl is extremely prominent, and stays for at least an hour or two, now after that, it fades and only lingers slightly, but then I am convinced the Condensed Milk and Tonka truly come out and meld together, making such a sweet and luscious combo, almost vanilla but not quite, just so sweet and irresistible, now I am stuck with the issue of not knowing which full size bottle to purchase first... Imagine this; you are in a record store, wearing your jet black leather jacket, while browsing, you meet the coolest girl! She has a sharp haircut and even sharper attitude, this is her signature scent. Overall this scent gets a solid 8.9/10.

This is the most "me-in-a-bottle" scent I've found. It's so cool and unique. I get compliments from friends but they say it smells like me. The tonka and musk base is warm skin, then the condensed milk is sweet, probably my favorite version of milk in a fragrance. It reminds me of Vietnamese coffee. The vinyl note is cool and I think keeps everything from just being straightforward flowery sweet. It's not plastic baby doll head either which I hateee. The nectarine/guava sticks around and gets dripping juicy wet, maybe supported by the tuberose/peony but I can't really pick those out of the scent. This is just perfect kinda weird warm sweetness. I wore it a lot when I was starting school this January so that's the only vibe association that comes to mind when I wear it. All good vibes, like a juicy perfect day around the town, you hit up a record store, thrift store, get pho, maybe see a movie or go to a show. I don't really see it being a summer fragrance though.

Yes, this is extremely Y2K. This is the actual-factual smell of sitting across from your mom and the other ladies getting their rollers/perms set in those big, dome hair dryers at the salon. Hair product, magazines and sticky vinyl seats. Snapshot aside, this opens as a delicious juicy floral that develops into an addictive milkiness on your skin and clothes. That nectarine is absolutely mouthwatering and keeps the damp florals from feeling too vintage. The vinyl note is present from the opening to the mid, which I think helps balance a mouthwatering but otherwise somewhat basic scent profile. Vinyl gives this scent a deliberate setting, context, EDGE. This scent also lasts all day! Developing beautifully and becoming creamier as the hours wear on. Very playful, weird and wearable!

My immediate impression was a photorealistic scent of flower petals. I feel like I’m somehow “smelling” the feeling of rubbing soft petals between my fingers! On subsequent sniffs, I get wonderfully creamy, sweet, peony and tuberose. I can imagine flowers swirling around in the wind in a cartoon. I love vinyl/plastic accords but I feel like my nose doesn’t pick them up as strongly as others (especially as much as people who don’t like them, I wish I could trade sensitivities!) but the vinyl starts to show itself after a few minutes. After a few times wearing it throughout the day, I declare it full bottle worthy as soon as I scrounge the funds together

WOW. This stuff is so cool , one of the most unique things I’ve ever smelt, I got it in the discovery set and was blown away by this one, imagine its year 3000 and the world is a stark clean futuristic dystopia, there are more robots than humans and all plant life has been extinct for Hundreds of years, but the robotic citizens have developed an AI sent profile of what they imagine the ancient plants known as flowers may have smell like, this is exactly what pedal jus smells like, and it’s absolutely amazing Definitely gonna pick up a full bottle one of these days, sweet milky AI generated flowers in a bottle, In the best way imaginable!!

Absolutely DELICIOUS!!! My favorite of all of the Binaurale scents and the only one I found to be totally feminine. Some of the notes are odd but I didn’t find this fragrance to be odd or polarizing in the least. I loved it, my 11 year old liked it, my husband liked it, my 60 year old mother liked it. It’s a floral-sweet, it’s nostalgic, it’s bold, unique but not eyebrow raising. I do not pick up on the condensed milk note, just the florals and the vinyl. I love weird fragrances and this one is pretty tame compared to what their marketing led me to expect :)

there are a lot of things that petal jus is not: something i would ordinarily wear, something that would smell good on everyone (but what is?), something unfamiliar (outside of the addition of a vinyl note). however, there are a couple of really special things that petal jus is: really slutty, and the truest modern y2k throwback we've seen yet. when i say slutty, i mean i-just-shoplifted-this-from-sephora-to-wear-when-i-sneak-out-and-meet-up-with-my-boyfriends-brother-later slutty. it rocks. i really, really love it.

I was bummed at first i had to get a full Binauale set to get the other sample i wanted but I'm glad because I'm really happy with this one and wouldn't have thought to get it on its own. I like weird notes and was excited for the vinyl to make it strange but it actually plays so harmoniously with the other notes. Its summery, almost tropical vibes were unexpected but so welcome. I agree with the other comments that mark it as a realistic y2k scent. Reminiscent of the days of Fashion Bug. Overall fantastic perfume.

Bought their sample set and this is probably my favorite, which is surprising as I don't usually love super sweet scents. I would call this more fruity than floral. The nectarine comes through heavily for me and gives a peaches and cream vibe combined with the milk note. Reminds me a lot of my younger self but the scent still somehow feels elegant and grown up. I'll probably get the full size once it gets a little warmer out.

Remember those dessert scented dolls from the 2000's? This is a soft creamy floral mixed with nostalgic plastic musk. A little bit sexy, a little bit ... odd? Very addictive. I bought this thinking it would be a fresh summer scent, but the tonka and condensed milk adds warmth that can be worn year-round. I really wish it had more longevity, but it's my new favourite anyway. 😍

a beautiful balance of fresh sweet and floral but i swear to god ppl around me have an adverse reaction to it. like i've had a few get a whiff of me and recoil or their noses start running. i think bc it's a bit sharp and alien, it doesn't smell like a regular perfume.

This scent is making me realize I love a sweet floral! Something about it just smells so cozy on my skin and the unique notes of condensed milk and vinyl help mellow out the strong opening of the floral.

Possibly my favorite perfume I own. Such a beautiful profile, the vinyl is masterfully blended and the result is a distinctly lactonic and plasticky floral

Smells like a bouquet of fake flowers in a good way. Fresh and sweet but also highly artificial, which I don’t mind.

My guess was peach-skin velvet and black patent leather, so not too far off from nectarine and vinyl. This is a flirty, quirky one. Two parts manic pixie, one part dream girl. The opening is a head-scratcher between the fruity-blossoms and shiny plastic, but matures into an enchanting, creamy musk. Never thought vinyl and condensed milk would make such a great duo. Reminds me a bit of Boy Smells LES (the candle version), with its peaches-and-cream heart. There’s something retro-pop about this. Candy necklaces, attitude tees, stripey legwarmers. Like rummaging through a thrift store of mallrat treasures from the nineties, all pristine in their plastic. Mental Snapshot: The coolest girl in your junior high class. Her bedroom is a neon Neapolitan fever dream. Hot pink bedspread, fluffy white beanbag chair, slinky black cat. You doll yourselves up at her vanity, cluttered with curlicued jewellery racks shaped like the Eiffel Tower. She hangs your JCPenney glamour shots on her French memo board and blood-bonds you BFF. tl;dr: nostalgic girlipop 💽💄

I’ve come back to this one with a vengeance. It’s signature scent material, but $165 for 50 ml? Atrocious. I adore every facet of this fragrance but the price. It’s a syrupy tuberose with lactonic and plastic undertones. It’s delicate and feminine in some ways, but domineering and masculine in other ways. To me, it’s perfect: it’s like a good poem that speaks to the core of my personality. But there *has* to be a cheaper way to get it at some point. Why isn’t this on the shelf at Nordstrom or on e-commerce discounter sites yet? 🥲 I’ve been rating my fragrances with a 30-point rubric that accounts for scent, longevity, projection, concept/creativity, and aesthetic. This one boasts a 28/30. I get compliments every time I wear it and I still get hints of its sour-fresh-sweetness at the end of the day. I love love love love it. I know there are some people that find it gross, but to me, it’s a masterful composition that balances an unwieldy and unique profile with grace.

Dude... this is so strange. It feels like my brain is short circuiting. Initial spray? Tart plastic. Like rhubarb and shrink wrap. Then the tartness becomes more floral. But like, still: plastic. Finally, it becomes what it’s meant to be: a fragrance that evokes car sex (in a good way). It’s masculine and feminine — it feels like a union of sweetness and strength, hot breath and sweat dipped in a candy coating, a bad decision: one you will pretend to regret but secretly (even unto yourself) you don’t regret it at all. This fragrance transports me to a weird time in my young adulthood. There’s something about it that evokes my college years (telling on myself here) and for that I applaud its strange character. There’s truly nothing else like this; however, it’s not really wearable in a professional setting. Good thing I don’t work in an office environment! I get compliments on this everywhere I go!

I agree with those who claim y2k and mall vibes. This scent is sweet and dusty. Smells “old” but unchanged - it’s not grandma-y. Grandma has been changed through the decades of time. The vinyl records this is reminiscent of, have not changed aside from a layer of dust that has settled atop them. This scent is time travel. Something existed decades ago, and it exists now. I so appreciate the artistry and emotional journey of this fragrance, just not completely sold on it for me personally. I don’t think I can pull off the sweet milk notes. The condensed milk note stands out to me, it would be almost sickening without the contrast of the synthetic vinyl. I applaud Binaurale for once again seamlessly pairing notes that you’d never expect to go together. Every scent of theirs is a unique adventure!

I strongly debated between this and Supersolid for full bottle purchases. I ended up going for the latter, but I truly did love this scent. First spray comes with a strong dose of vinyl. As it dries down it quickly dissipates into the background, letting the creamy florals take the forefront. I was quite impressed with just how much the vinyl dries down while still being completely perceptible, and might I add, in quite a pleasant way. This feels like what I would have liked Coney Island Baby to be... anyway, this is still on my would-like-to-get-eventually list

This would be a slutty mall scent if it wasn't for the vinyl note, which cuts through the powdery, pink florals and makes this feel less juvenile. Smells creamy and girly but otherworldly at the same time; a sexy robot who is learning to love. Also, for a split second, it smells like milky Earl Grey Tea. This is what I wanted Etat Libre d'Orange's The Ghost In The Shell to smell like.

Pink flowers. Tires. Wax. Summery and sunshiney and then seriously waxy. And I'm getting a salted butter kind of thing. Dry down it reminds me of the smell of an airport. This is really fascinating but I don't know how inclined I'll be to actually wear it out and about. But who knows

Not a love, but definitely a like. If it were stronger I’d probably love it. It sits very close to the skin. Wish there was more projection. The condensed milk and florals blend well together. Very feminine and soft. A good summer and spring fragrance.

Like a lot of people, I bought the discovery set thinking that I would love this, and it's lovely, but it was driving me absolutely crazy trying to recall what it reminded me of and I did, at the supermarket: Petit Fracas. I get absolutely no fruit, it's a tuberose bomb - which is not a bad thing if that's your thing. It gives off the impression of This Is My First Real Office Job And I Had To Buy Pantyhose And Also It's 1982.

I love it, milky, smooth, and floral. A very cozy scent. Instead of leaning toward aldehydes and freshness, this pulls the florals and synthetics back to round them out rather than leaving them sharp. Also just love the bottle. Traditionally this would be considered feminine, but I’m a man, and I think it works great for me, also gendered perfumes are just a suggestion as far as I’m concerned.

I totally get what others are saying with the 2000’s mall vibe. It’s sweet and floral; girly, but that vinyl note really changes things. The opening smells like a clean motel in a very nostalgic way. Plasticky, vintage, sweet: those are the main adjectives I have for it. This is very interesting and I like smelling it for the experience, but I don’t know that I really want to smell like this.

Was really excited to try this one based on the notes and reviews. Unfortunately, for my nose/chemistry, I get so very little of the floral, fruity, and sweet notes, and am left with just musk, tonka, and vinyl which push it towards a much more masculine, much less y2k girly fragrance. Still very interesting but not for me. I wish it could smell like its opening for more than 10 minutes...

interesting composition (and beautiful bottle) but just not for me. that plasticky vinyl note is very strong on my skin and overpowers any of the floral elements. i'm all for stuff that is unique (and i'm sure this will appeal to somebody) but i am not that into it

Immediate coconut that shifts into plastic flowers. The vinyl is almost suede like. A bit of musk but no milk on me. Maybe a touch of fruit. Petal Jus does have some sweetness and reminds me of plastic dolls. Very interesting scent. Artistic. Modern and unusual. I totally get the vintage vibe people mention. There is an aspect that reminds me of toys'r'us. It's not bad but not for me. 5/10

NO. it's literally straight up black TAR. i thought i could smell the faiiintest sweetness of the nectarine the first 30 seconds behind the burnt rubber then it goes back to smelling like how it does inside of a plane or a bus, if you have motion sickness i'm sure you know it by heart... that disgusting gas smell. don't go in expecting an edgy fruity floral cuz you will be disappointed. literally traumatizing.

What a scent to behold! Bold and just insanely original, irrestably alluring and foreign... Both natural and synthetic at once - but with none of the headache-inducing artificial smell. This fragrance kicks off with a sweet and spicy punch. I don't usually like sweet scents but this is so NOT candy-like. There is an addictive vinyl smell that underpins it -- but not like the cheap Barbie doll smell either. I can definitely ID the condensed milk -- which rounds it out with a creamy, soggy Lucky Charms kind of scent. I know this description sounds cheap and sickly -- but it is anything but! I found this in a store in Brooklyn which stocks hundreds of rare and indie perfumes. When I found this, it was an immediate bing, bing, bing for me. I could think of nothing else and all I wanted to do was sniff it all day long.

This is one of the most unique scents I’ve tried, and yet, it reminds me of something. I’m not sure if it’s another perfume or maybe a toy I had as a kid in the 90s. This is a lush, juicy pink peony with vinyl that comes off plastic smelling. The condensed milk and tonka bean adds sweetness without being gourmand. It’s strange, but I absolutely love it. Makes me think of a hot pink vinyl record, or pink sparkly 90s jellies - those shoes that gave you blisters, but you begged your mom for them because they were just SO cute. It lasted 5 hours on my skin, and it’s currently about 80 degrees outside. I caught whiffs, but it never made me feel disgusted or nauseated like some strange fragrances do to me in the heat. FB worthy? Maybe...

Sometimes you fall in love with a scent that you know would not be wearable in your day to day life. That’s what Petal Jus is for me. I’m obsessed with the play between the vinyl and the more traditional "pretty" notes. They described this scent as a whip made out of silk and that’s exactly what this is. It opens so sweet and feminine and then evolves as the vinyl note becomes more prominent. I’ve truly never smelled anything like it. Even if you ultimately won’t wear this one, it’s 100% worth smelling for the artistry alone.

This is such a unique scent! I don’t smell condensed milk as strongly as I expected. I smell musk, tuberose, and vinyl with sweet peony. It’s juicy, sweet, plasticky, with a musky finish. I already have Holy Hell, which has a similar plasticky scent, so I don’t think I’ll buy the full bottle. But I really love this sample. The plastic note is fun but does induce a slight headache for me. This is a fun summer fragrance, very carefree and youthful.

Guava and evaporated milk. First spray is this juicy fruit and tropical white floral, which is solidly done but not super unique. The dry down transformation is where this scent shines the most. It initially becomes this dripping guava, and then this creamy yet dry (evaporated milk?) skin musk that is intoxicating. I can't imagine a better summer fragrance.

Was expecting to dislike this based on the description but it absolutely blew me away. It has a very androgynous edge to it which I quite like. Reminds me of people wearing those Rick Owens kiss boots, that vibe, unsure why.

I get nectarine, musk, spices, leather and a warm sweetness. I smell a lot of leather in the opening, and then it gets more and more sweet in the drydown.

I wish there was a way to try this without ordering the whole discovery set! Anyone know where to acquire a sample or have a spare one?! <3
