Vixen

My bottle of Vixen has aged a couple of years, which is bringing out the smokey, resinous aspects of it. Like @tessture, I'm getting a bit of cola there, too, which wasn't as noticeable on me when my bottle of this was new. On me, the orange blossom still stands out over the resin and smoke. Not as much as when the bottle was new, but above the rest is still the scent of a blue bottle of orange flower water from my baking cabinet. I also get a bit of frangipani, or perhaps that's the bit of cola mixing into the orange? The blend is really lovely. At times Vixen reminds me a little of L'Origan, but with more smoke and resin and less powder. It's like a whisper of L'Origan that passes by softly as your nose picks up the smokey incense and cola. On drydown, it's more sweet, spicy floral than smokey, resinous incense. This is what stays with me for the rest of the evening, and it's intoxicating. I agree that Vixen smells vintage. On me, it's less like the heady, 1920's and 30's fragrances I love and more like spicy flowers...less vamp, more ingenue. Dancing on a patio on a spring evening, as opposed to reclining in an opium den. In comparison to other BPAL fragrances, sillage is much less than Snake Oil. Vixen is my second favorite BPAL fragrance after Suspiro (which was discontinued due to issues obtaining a component).

This juice is rich and sweet with orange at first. I am enjoying the dry down of incense and patchouli. I love it.

Disclosure: My sample's 'aged,' which I hear is good w/ these kinds of oils, and it's been properly stored. Mine smells EXACTLY like head shop nag champa, in a really good way if you like that scent. I happen to, but I really have to be in the mood for it. I just applied the sample (!! so only a few dabs!) and it fills my ENTIRE 30 ft boat haha. My cabin smells like a lovely little incense shop today. :P (9/20)

Review of sample that's been setting in a cool dark place for 8 years. Directly from the dabber: This doesn't smell like its just those 3 listed notes. Very little Patchouli, I smell and aromatic herbal bitter spice, but again very little of it. I mainly get this sweet creamy floral with nuttiness and then a "perfumey" spike. It's okay. I can see how some would like the combination.

Almost smells like vintage Tabu, but different enough to be really fun. Possibly hints of Youth Dew oil. Dark, thick and sweet, slightly spiced, base like spiced vanilla and frankincense resin, with that hint of cola. This is one of BPAL's victories. Very delicious and sensual, without being overt in any way.
