Hallow

This is a very pleasant basic incense that I think skews a tiny bit masculine. I don't know why but the Marzipan seems more likea sweet grass vetiver. There's a lovely warmth that I associate with mens' colognes near the chest. It's not terribly complex, not particularly spicy, just incense that is truly balanced between acrid and sweet, though more sweet. Recent incense offerings from many houses are smokey, astringent, peppery, woodsy, highly spiced and aromatic. I love most of them. This is more entry level very good, gentle silage and moderate longevity, calming incense-- don't think Andy Tauer, Avignon, or Heeley. And guys--do not be deterred by the marzipan. I think it might make for snugle-worthiness. I like layering btw with Mandy Aftelier's incense-based body oil. I may pick up more when many of my spendier 'censes get low.

Love!! This one is really very good from start to finish. The Smoky marzipan is quite bewitching. I would buy a full bottle of this.

Sweet woody smoky blandness. If you've ever dreamed of a frankincense-marzipan combination, this is your bag... I'm not sure anyone has ever really desired such a combo.. it doesn't really click or blend into something greater than it's parts. Thankfully the individual parts are not unpleasant and they don't clash or anything but they're just simple to a fault. It opens with soft frankincense and sweet blobby benzoin/marzipan and it pretty much stays the same throughout all of it's life. No detectable oud here to my nose. I've grown very tired of "doughy sweetness". The sort of shallow, plain candy notes that are haphazardly shoved underneath smoky or masculine notes to create "interesting contrast". The most prominent recent offender has been Tom Ford with Noir Extreme and it's candied baby formula character. The sweetness in Hallow is just so shallow (pardon the rhyme). Sweet notes can be dark, deep, and mysterious, but the marzipan here just makes me think of a cold plate with a thin layer of Jello brand tapioca pudding. A visual interpretation of the concept of blandness. Ok, end anti-candy-blob-diatribe. This is not bad, but it's nothing exciting or interesting. If you are a big fan of sweet notes and Olibanum than it might be worth checking out as this is not especially expensive or anything. Not for me. 4.5/10

Got a sample of it and it's exactly as the notes described it to be. Slight smokeyness but mostly sweet. Too much sugar and not enough everything else for me. I would say it is like Tokyo Milk's Honey and the Moon, but a little quieter and more refined. If you like the sugar scents it's for you. I won't be getting a big bottle. And this is another yellow jacket wasp magnet. I notice that many scents recommended for Autumn have the sweet factor. Just coincidence? Or is there a conspiracy out there to get the unsuspecting stung by wasps? Autumn is when they go sugar crazy to stock up before Winter. Must consult the Illuminati!

This is a basic balsamic incense scent that is interrupted every so often with marzipan, which is a bit jolting. When the marzipan calms down in the dry-down, it turns into a nutty balsamic incense perfume that reminds me of a the scent of the rare books in a used book store more than it reminds me of a churchy scent. I am wearing V2 which is a limited edition re-release and the juice has changed just a bit. I don't feel that this leans feminine or masculine. Moderate performance.

Yummy sweet resinous incense with a pronounced woody note. I would say the oud is more cedar-like. My guy likes it and he's hard to please.

Smells like something that might be edible but would taste absolutely terrible. Maybe like a some kind of herbal candy in a sketchy Indian restaurant.

Goes on nice! Slightly fruity feel, but the resins are sweet and golden. More woody as it dries in a good way but sweet resins are a more sweetly honeyed than at the start. It’s a sweet olibanum resin. No oud ot speak of. I like this! It's not Halloween, but Hallow as in Churchy, Holy. I don’t get marzipan either,but it’s sure a nice sweet olibanum.

This is the smell of a hot summer day on a ridge by the sea in the pacific northwest, when all the year's fallen needles are baked by the sun and the blackberries are hot on the vine. Sweet, deep and earthy. Incense, smoke, marzipan. I don't wear it regularly but i have consistently re-bought the sample size over the last decade.
