Ophir

This fragrance is dry, intellectual, and has no soul. It literally makes me think of a young guy who works in IT in a high-tech company, makes a lot of money (I do smell the note of new $100 bills) and likes documentaries. He does have sex sometimes also, as sandalwood warms up after 2-3 hours and becomes very creamy, warm and kind of musky. You start thinking of warm skin and related things instead of the documentaries. It's in the same vein as Santal 33, and will definitely appeal to its fans, but it's a different scent, they are not similar.

The stated aim in the perfumer's blurb; 'to remove masculinity from the nature of wood, replacing traditional airs of arrogance, superiority and power with softness, comfort, and subtlety' is odd.. nah, wood is just an object, and actually this leans quite masculine, and has a rough fatherly sweet shaving cream on it's face. Definitely barbershop. For me Myrtle, Cedar, and a creamy Sandalwood note are most prominent here. The pepper and bay leaf in the background add to the mild roughness. Stated aim aside, this is a really nice fragrance. I wouldn't mind wearing it myself. Rather traditional, Ophir reminds me of many varied masculine cream fragrances, the only thing it's missing is tobacco, honestly.

This scent is super clean and for those that love a subtle but intoxicating smell. It's a bit too "clean" for myself.

Ophir is a super clean sandalwood, and as such it's not going to raise any eyebrows. However, I find that it has some unique facets, which make it worth checking out if you're a fan of sandalwood or Middle Eastern-inspired scents. It's not particularly sweet, but on my skin, it has some notable gourmand qualities. I get hints of pistachio and rose cookies, Turkish delight, and vanilla ice cream with saffron. These all serve to soften the sandalwood and make it more inviting and sensual, which seems to have been the perfumer's intent. On to the notes pyramid. I'm personally a huge lover of fresh, breezy aromatics like saffron and cypress so the opening ticks a lot of boxes for me. I find the heart to be prominently rose, which is usually loud on my skin, but here it blends nicely with the wood, pepper and nutmeg. The drydown is, you guessed it, sandalwood, with just a hint of coumarinic sweetness from the tonka and a bit of resin, vetiver and cedar to round things out. Overall, this is not a groundbreaking scent, but it's very wearable and sets itself apart in a few small details. I'm happy to have this in my wardrobe, and it could easily replace any other workhorse sandalwood fragrance such as Tam Dao.

this is mostly a comfortable woody and spicy perfume. i get a lot of sweet spice from the tonka bean and especially the nutmeg. i'm frankly surprised by how creamy, sweet, and gourmand this is to me, considering it's marketed as a wood scent. there's almost a hint of camphoric mintiness in the first smell of this, maybe from the cedar or one of the resins. the rose comes out slowly, and i see how that could combine with the resinous notes to read as bug spray, unfortunately. i usually like wood scents so i was not expecting to find this so heavy and cloying, but to me this is more spice than wood i think if you like warm spicy scents, this is worth checking out, but that's not a scent family i love personally

Woody, smoky, and bizarre. Abrasive. off putting. Unnaturally natural. Reminds me of camping in Death Valley. Gives me a headache.

This scent is how I discovered my deep hatred of camphoraceous notes. It opens with just an absolute tsunami of camphor, maybe from the myrtle? Then we move on to an old man’s shaving cream, which I am also not down for. This opening is unfortunate, because I really enjoy the rest of this fragrance on me. Sandalwood leads, and once the other woods arrive it’s Christmas-cozy. By the end of the day it’s soft and gentle, with warm and creamy wood. Good longevity on my chest, less so on my wrists and neck. Still better longevity than a lot of Blackbird’s offerings. Your results may vary, because on my partner it opened with shaving cream and then transitioned to heavy bugspray hell all day. It was like sitting next to a spilled bottle of DEET. It was awful. It’s amazing how much this scent diverged on us, but it’s still not a good fit for either.

For me this is literally the opposite of the clean scent described below. This smells like something an Indian restaurant would serve that has way too much anis in it.

I agree with the last comment. It's surprisingly gourmand without having any of the traditional gourmand notes. Think of a super rich and decadent olive oil cake decorated with herbs from the garden. So delicious but not sweet at all.

gorgeous sandalwood that's rounded out by saffron and ambrette!! i lament the fact that this ended up feeling a little /too/ polished and proper for me. it's really beautiful but not terribly wearable on a daily basis for me!
