Pipe Bomb

Like a couple of the commenters on here: I am flabbergasted at the the hate that this scent gets. This is one of the craziest accords for me as it forms this mineral like smell that is truly addicting. It smells like a rock with a faint hint of the sea. It’s like you just cracked a lava rock that’s been hit by the ocean in Hawaii and took a big whiff of strictly that. Then as it dries down it gains this metallic essence that’s not over powering at all. It provides this nice balance of this mineral, metal, and slightly salty marine. It’s a fragrance that can be worn at any time, and should, but works exceptionally well in the summer heat. This guy projects hard off my skin. Especially when I wore a bit of the sample I got out on a hot day. It also lasts a fair amount of time if ~5-6 hours before you need to re apply, but the heat might've shortened this as it does most fragrances. Even though the longevity was short, I would expect that of any ethereal/mineral fragrance like this that has a intense version. Overall this is a great fragrance for pretty much any situation, no matter who you are. I personally thing Mizuchi is better, but this one projects better on me and will be more accessible in the long run (if blackbird DOES actually cancel the smell after 100 bottles)

This is probably my favorite perfume ever and my classic go to scent/signature. I can't believe some of the reviews, so wanted to leave my overwhelmingly positive one to balance them out. This perfume is subtle and mixes very well with your own scent - or at least with mine. It is spicy, metallic, intriguing, and comforting. I want to keep smelling it over and over again and I never get tired of it. The smell is not loud/in your face, but it is definitely there and has more lasting power than other reviews let on. I can smell pipe bomb on my clothes days after spraying it. I would describe this as a skin scent that is like 'you, but better' with an animalic quality that I don't see listed in the notes. I get tons of compliments on it and it is one of my holy grail perfumes!

Very pleasant but it seems fleeting. I'm looking forward to a more in depth test. *Update* Bought a full bottle. It develops after about 20 minutes. Then stays pretty present. Sweet & clean at the same time. It seems akin to a molecular type fragrance.. I think it's simply stunning. *Another Update* Wth was I thinking this is bleach water. *Update part 3* It's beautiful again. I am 💯 confident this will always smell differently depending on hormones and chemistry. One thing is for certain and remains constant - the cap and atomizer are junk. It's expensive juice, Blackbird should be giving us better quality here.

I'm the owner and perfumer at Blackbird. Pipe Bomb is not Iso E Super and therefore not like Molecule 1. I love reading these comments. The perfume is supposed to smell very light and almost like nothing. It's for people who do not like normal perfume and want something different. Personally, it does not work on my skin and I can't smell it on anyone, but I have too many friends who smell it on people in public and will ask the person to confirm that it is truly Pipe Bomb they are smelling. I adore this scent and was completely astounded by the negative reviews I saw here. I get a lot of compliments on the scent and I myself found out about it because I complimented a woman passing me by! It's a great non-floral option and not overbearing! Pairs well with your favourite casino but also just anywhere.

Smells amazing. Can’t put my finger on it. Edit: wearing this right now and it is hands down spectacular. I’m definitely going to buy the full size.

Am I the only one getting a very strong bell pepper note? Makes me feel like I'm going insane. I do get light ambery and metallic aspects and there is a fiery, fuse-like, cordite sort of element, maybe a little spicy in a black peppery way, a little clean and clinical like industrial disinfectant, maybe a hint of pencil graphite after it dries -- but for the first several minutes all I get is photorealistic, vivid red bell pepper. Not a bad thing, but certainly not what I expected and it surprised me quite a bit. I haven't caught any marine/salty/seawater elements but they might be there. Overall very subtle, which I did anticipate since their website warns of anosmia, but I wanted to try the original formulation first. Might try the intense. It is a lot like Escentric Molecule 02, probably ambroxan-based, with a couple added elements. I suspect it layers well with other fragrances but I haven't tried yet. Fascinating and worth a try, may not go for a full bottle but I will be savoring the sample.

the opening has a sharp sweetness that reminds me vaguely of hospital disinfectant, weirdly not in an unpleasant way. salty, ambery, clean, soapy, luxurious, animalic, effervescent, sexy, molecular. i actually don't feel like this is very aquatic or mineraly on me, strangely, it reminds me more of leather and paper in an abstract sense (this one does have some similarity to blackbird's mizuchi) i'd be careful with temperature on this one. in the cold, it reads much more like a medical clinic. in the heat, it smells like the clean, smooth inside of a seashell only about three hours of projection, so i'll be curious to see if the intense version performs better

I wanted to like this and was so curious about it. It is very weak. I waited, it got stronger, but still I can hardly detect something. Started off very clean, like alcohol or a disinfectant, then a tiny bit of sweetness emerged. I thought it could evolve nicely into a super sterile, airy, fresh scent. But sadly, a powdery note appeared after about half an hour, which I absolutely cannot take and now it suppresses everything else. This powdery note is also very weak, I must directly smell the sprayed spot to get anything. Maybe my nose just cannot detect this properly :( I had no such issues with Pipe Bomb Blue.

I can’t smell this at all. Like maaaybe if I concentrate I can get a hint of some clean woody papery notes at the opening, and then they disappear. I don’t think it’s an Iso E Super issue, because I can smell that. On my partner, it’s a quick burst of metallic freshness. Later, he got a bit of patchouli. It lasted better on his clothing than on his skin.

Okay, so this is a skin chemistry dependent fragrance for sure. On me, it’s very weird. It opens up with a strong alcohol smell and a hint of salt. The drydown literally smells like ratatouille mixed with sweat. After 2 hours it’s gone.

I bought a few samples of the Blackbird perfumes because I really loved their descriptions and notes. Unfortunately, nearly everything I've tried has been fairly flat on me (Triton and Moto Oud have been my faves so far). The sillage and longevity on everything I've tried has been poor, and it just doesn't "pop" in the way I thought it would. I have to say, too, I've been wearing a lot of marines for summer, so I decided to try this one on. I'm not getting ANY marines in this. No salt, no salt water, no aquatics. I get a *little* bit of metal and some warmth of the amber, but it's not even like incense. Like Mizuchi and Broken Glass, this kinda just dissolves into generic woodsy + spicy on my skin. I hate to say this, but overall it just smells like "generic cologne" on me. Wood, spice, a little sour bite, but that's it. I would have LOVED an "underwater firecracker bundled with incense", but that's completely absent on me. That being said, it's a pleasant enough cologne smell, just not that memorable or worth buying when there's so much more out there. I will add though, that out of all of the Blackbird perfumes I've tried, this one seems to have the strongest sillage/longevity.

Well shoot, here I was hoping to add a good review to balance out the negative ones here but... I have to agree with them. I sprayed this on quite heavily and I smell... NOTHING. Nothing at all. Upon spraying, I got the tiniest hint of something warm, slightly smoky, slightly metallic. That vanished within minutes. It really does feel like the Emperor's New Clothes here. Like, is this a trick? Is the bottle nothing but water? What's going on? NOTHING. I don't think I am anosmic to Iso E Super, I have smelled it in other things. I'm annoyed right now because I feel like I'm not wearing any perfume which for me is like how some people feel if they forget their phone at home.

This is really interesting! I didn’t know what to expect from the widely varied reviews but I like it. I would place it in the “molecular” category for sure. I think if you like Another 13, Molecule 01, JHAG you’d enjoy this. Very unisex (I’m female btw) When I first put it on, it was airy, ocean-y, metallic molecule musk. Then a salty seawater rock kinda smell. Now that it’s dried down, it smells A LOT like Pear Inc by JHAG. I have no explanation for this as there are no fruit notes at all, so I guess skin chemistry. I’d like to have a full bottle but it’s not at the top of my list. I really appreciate that it’s an indie house and brings something different to the table.

I read the reviews on this and literally made a profile to add my experience because I do not understand how anyone could think this fragrance is anything other than stunning. Every time I wear this I get comments from co-workers and customers alike (I work retail) about how amazing I smell. It stays on my clothing forever and it's powerful enough to not need to reapply almost ever. Once it dries down on my skin it warms up just slightly. This is the most unisex fragrance I've ever smelled and again, is stunning. I smell this on other people and I die. I smell it on myself and I strut around the place like a rockstar.

This is an overpriced Molecule 01, which itself is basically an overpriced single note aromachemical. It is absolutely criminal to charge the price Blackbird does for this - they should be ashamed of not only this practice, but for the way they market it as something more than it is. You can Google something like "Iso E Super + Etsy" and find any indie perfume shop that is selling an affordable version of this - and much larger than 30 ml. Absolutely despicable, Blackbird.

On my skin I get sun-warmed sand (rock/mineral) and sweet cone incense. It is so close to the skin, and really does not smell like much of anything upon first spray, but as it settles it reveals a comforting, delicate aura. It is like smelling Glossier You or Another 13 several rooms away in a palatial house. Experimental, with nothing quite like it.

WTF is this, is all I can say. Gun Powder at the range with rusty tin cans, and some rancid incense burning. Headache inducing after 10 minutes. Guaranteed to make you puke after 1 hour. I still smell it after I washed this off my skin. Everyone below me must have had COVID. Seriously, Blackbird is strong. Sick joke.

I haven't tried this, or any from this line... However, I am definitely going to be. What a treat to actually see a comment from the perfumer! Thanks for weighing in and your honest comments. Love it! I am fascinated by reading what is in your line. I look forward to giving them a whirl!

got a sample of this and really fell in love with it. it's clean and fresh in a crispy but not cheap aquatic way (at least on my skin). it's very wearable and i found that it performs quite well longevity wise as well.

Interesting reviews so far. Smells nothing like Molecule 01 to me. A simple yet unusual fragrance. Light, but beautiful nonetheless. If you want "...firecracker bundled with incense", I'd recommend the Intense version.

This is the smell of nothing after 20 min.
