Triton

It seems that Blackbird is really stepping their game up with Triton. While most of the others in the line appear to have a handful of generic notes and come across unfinished or over-simple, Triton is one of the few that actually adds up to more than the sum of it's parts. It's a fully formed, unique, semi-futuristic-floral kind of fragrance. When I first sprayed it on, I was intrigued. It's one of the few fragrances I've ever smelled that successfully creates a "clammy" vibe. Think thick, humid air being pumped into a cold, dry-metal room. I detect frosty iris placed atop a slightly smoky, incense/cedar combo. I definitely detect some bitter vetiver as well that adds a strangely natural vibe, and aldehydes adding their trademark fizziness. There is a strangely extra-terrestrial vegetable quality to the opening if that makes any sense. It's like some bizarre green house on a satellite that floated too far from the sun and began to freeze. As with all things this strange, perfectly unisex. Just for fun I decided to see what a couple of friends thought of Triton. They all seemed to think the opening smelled of Diet Dr Pepper. Strangely enough, I think there is some credence to that. The sweetness paired with the bitterness and aldehydes does kind of make me think of an artificially sweetened soda. That being said, it's just a nebulous comparison and don't get turned off by the idea. This performs slightly above average on me. I found that it was entirely nauseating in the heat but quite nice at room temperature or in the cold. Definitely worth a try for fans of CDG-esque stuff. If you are thinking about giving Blackbird's scents a sample, the only 2 I fully endorse as being unique and interesting are Mizuchi and Triton. 7.5/10

I love this in the peak of summer, moving between the extremes of oppressive humidity and blinding sun outside and overly cooled, air conditioned interiors. Icy and remote but energizing.

Out of all the Blackbird scents I’ve tried so far, this one is the most mysterious and complex to me. Named after the Greek god messenger of the sea (and a moon of the watery planet Neptune), I do feel myself being pulled under the water—but more the water of a Lovecraft novel. I don’t necessarily get *cold* from Triton, but neither is it especially warm. This is both a briny water and a bitter water to me, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s wet or aquatic. The incense certainly comes through, which is what makes it less “cold” for me. On the other hand, the aldehydes make it pop in a cooler way that keeps the warmth down (the ‘poppiness’ seems to make this seem like it has a slightly longer longevity/sillage than the other Blackbird accords I’ve tried). If it sounds like I’m having trouble describing it, it’s a very elusive scent that’s hard to pinpoint. There is something strangely chemical about it too, like being in a lab or a hospital. Usually I’m a little skeptical of overly poetic descriptions, but “ice world” and “cold incense” isn’t too far off. I think something about the bitter chemical sparkle is too much for me, although I will say as it dries down the warmth and floral powderiness shine through a little, making it more inviting, although at its core, it’s surely an alien. Rating: 7/10

Oh my, what an interesting scent. It starts out with a blast of briny, metallic freshness, then settles into a delicious and bracing blend of spice, salt and metal - reminiscent of the smell of warm skin after sitting in the sun all day. I really didn't know what to expect based on the other reviews but was intrigued enough to order a sample from Blackbird. Very glad I did. I don't know if I'd invest in a full bottle, because I see Triton as a scent to be worn with intention, not an everyday thing. It's powerful, not in its sillage or longevity, but in itself - assertive, yet mysterious and even a bit odd.

This is just an ice potion. Bright, icy, creamy, and ever so slightly powdery iris is the main player in the majority of this fragrance. A lovable cedar and musk backbone that compliments the “ice planet” vibe they’re trying tj go for. This is one of those scents that does something really amazing on a chemical level. This scent clears my sinus’ every time I smell it. It is truly an icy and unforgiving planet. An amazing and unique fragrance for iris lovers. It dries much more powdery and cedar on my skin, eventually turning into a powdery wood. Amazing olfactory work here. Unisex. Good price! Especially with the holiday sale coming up. Blackbird is one of those brands that has consistent and amazing bangers. There are few brands up there with them. If you are all intrigued about them, I cannot encourage you enough.

This scent is, like their others, evocative of Death Valley. Harsh landscapes. Brutal, dark. I don’t get the icy coldness. I smell loneliness. It’s heavy, sad. My husband likes this one a lot. I can see this scent appealing to outdoorsy men. But this is not wearable to me.

initially, it's a strong hit of candied violets, very powdery, floral, and sweet. fairly quickly, the woodiness begins to vie for dominance in the scent. i get a lot of vetiver and carrot seed with a peppery bite. the powderiness takes on an almost velvet quality from the soft florals under the wood. i also see how this could read slightly metallic, but i don't get any smoky incense notes nor amber. powdery and bittersweet overall, dries down with a distinct soapy quality only lasted about three hours on me, which isn't awful but it's definitely on the weak end of 'moderate' longevity it's a really odd scent. i appreciate that it's interesting but i think this is too powdery for me

Very dry, bitter aquatic upon opening. Cedar and pepper pop out to me immediately. I'm getting a chemical note somewhat like concentrated celery but lacks the freshness and instead manages to smell like antiseptic mixed with galbanum. This feels dead to me. Industrial. Skin scent after two hours of wear, and at the very base there's some powderiness like immortelle and resin. Reading the other reviews I wonder if people are caught up in the marketing because if this was sold at the mall in a crappy flacon it would just be an unpleasant fragrance, vs avant garde. Maybe Dieter from Sprockets would wear this.

I really enjoyed the opening to this fragrance. It smelled like a silvery floral underscored by a light, smokey woodiness. Although it includes aldehydes, the fragrance is balanced very well so it was not overbearing as are some aldehydic fragrances. The overall feeling I got was something like floating in a humid, sweet, imaginary atmosphere. However, for me there was no performance past a couple of hours. For me, most Blackbird fragrances seem to be very slight and short-lasting, which is disappointing because they make interesting compositions like this, Mizuchi, and Pipe Bomb.

Gotta say, I personally don't really get the "icy" association with this one. It opens up in the air and for a few moments on skin as a nearly nose-scorchingly powdery bomb, which quickly settles down into a nice iris scent with a hint of violet, the powderiness moving into the background. It's a nice one, but doesn't read as a "cold" scent to me at all. Projection and longevity are both kinda wack for the price ($110 for 30ml), something like 2-3 hours on me with intimate sillage. Smells good, though!
