Hello Darkness

Just wanted to touch on an update. Still a 9.5/10. It's almost impossible to find a perfect frag, but to me, this is the closest thing I've smelled. The creator calls the mineral notes, haunting. I was worried. Ocean cat piss? Seaweed bitterness? No. This smells like honey dripped generously, sweet, onto an ocean ROCK, that was previously flashed by the salty ocean, but there is just traces of real, real deal salt. Smells of an ocean rock, with a honey covered tobacco leaf. Really fucking nice. I just, haven't smelled anything similar.. the performance is PERFECT. 2 sprays will do most well, I personally can go 4. It's addicting good.

Hello Darkness is quite a complex fragrance, constantly morphing. On opening, it is quite sweet with the honey note front and center, coupled with a 'fat' tobacco that inexorably becomes drier and drier over time. It is at this point that the other notes pop their collective heads up to say hello. A beautiful combination of oakmoss and tonka, supported by the deceptively delicious amalgam of florals and the ocean. With moderate projection and huge staying power, I am very keen to get my nose across more of what Blackcliff have to offer. 9/10!

Fantastic. Leans masculine, but can be unisex. Unique as hell. Great stuff. I adore this. Lasts very long, has almost perfect sillage, maybe a bit TOO strong, 9.5/10 from blackcliff here. Looking forward to more from them! NOTES mainly honey, haunting mineral notes is very true. Deep salty, green, tobacco honey. Very damn nice!!!!!

Update. Atomizer is abysmal. I haven't messed with it or dropped it, and the atomizer sprays a weak, splashing spritz. Completely unnecessary for a 200$ + fragrance. Still love the juice though.

This is my second encounter with a fragrance from the house of Blackcliff perfumes and today I am going with Hello Darkness. It is said to be inspired by sirens, sailors, witches, the cast of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, and anyone who feels the call of the ocean so I was curious to see how that translates in the scent. On first spray Hello Darkness opens with a salty jasmine and rose accord. There is a gentle sweetness right away but it is balanced by a slightly mineral feeling that is difficult to describe more precisely. It feels coastal and airy in a very natural way rather than something overly constructed. After about 30 minutes to an hour the scent begins to sweeten and develop more. A very realistic honey accord comes forward along with a soft tonka note. The honey is smooth and natural rather than sticky or heavy and it gives the fragrance a warmer and more comforting character while still keeping its oceanic edge. As it dries down it becomes deeper and more grounded. The saltiness returns in a more rocky and weathered way and there is a subtle tobacco note in the background. It is not strong but it adds a faint smoky trace that lingers on clothes and gives it a slightly worn in feel. I do not think the listed notes fully do this fragrance justice. If I had to describe it more visually I would say imagine being alone by the ocean sitting on a jetty at dusk holding two wet sea rocks and rubbing them together while eating very expensive Manuka honey. There is also a faint trace of pipe tobacco in the air from a couple of hours earlier that still clings to your clothes. It sounds strange but it makes sense once you smell it. I really like this. It is unique and well composed and feels like a lot of thought went into it. I would definitely recommend it if you enjoy more atmospheric oceanic niche fragrances. Based on this and my previous experience with the house I feel like Blackcliff creates very distinctive scents and I may explore more from them in the future.
