Kosciuszko

Got a 1ml sample frome Ave. parfums. First read is a naturalistic coniferous + gunsmoke masculine. It shifts grassy, smoky, but not from the same aromachemicals everybody else uses. Largely unique in materials, but not in style. Has a very similar drydown to a vintage bottle of Lorenzo Villoresi - Vetiver, but with some subtle spices and dirt in the mix. High quality composition, likeable, moderately addictive. Polite sillage, ok lasting power (given ifra restrictions). Nothing smells synthetic in it. My wife said it smelled like old man juice when it transferred from my hand contaminated with the splash sample to a steamed dim sum bun we were sharing. I told her too bad because I plan on getting a full bottle. Firm thumbs up. Signature scent worthy for me.

Kosciuszko is the perfect masculine scent. It is manly, and rugged while still remaining polished and sophisticated. A man who wears this is comfortable hunting and working outdoors yet he is also happy to get dressed up and take his lady to a fine restaurant and dancing. The gunpowder in the perfume really gives it a cool dry smoky twist that I really like. Tobacco, bitter orange and woods all smell so masculine and super sexy. My husband flipped for this when he smelled it and he is going to be getting a bottle. I can see him reaching for this a lot.

Elegant and classical chypre profile, that features a remarkable blend of citrus, cypress, fir, gun smoke, pepper, and tobacco leaf. The addition of cognac introduces a warmness to the overall composition, preventing it from becoming too austere and serious. The dry down becomes a combination of dry cedar, cypress, and smoke, I perceive a bit of a metallic nuance in the background, yet the experience is quite pleasurable. Overall, exuding a distinctly masculine character. I love it.

If the perfumer was attempting to recreate a misty morning on the battlefield in Saratoga, they nailed it. I'm a woman, and I love to wear this fragrance. It makes me feel powerful, and it's sophisticated without opulence. Even though it's a classic masculine, there are no gagsome "sport musk" notes in this. Longevity is 12+ hours on me, and the fragrance grows cleaner (pleasantly soapy) with wear.

This fragrance opens with bitter orange, black pepper and a hint of gunpowder. In the middle, the accord of fir and tobacco forms the spine of this blending combined with a smooth note of honey pipe tobacco that reminds me of the famous Amsterdamer’s tobacco pipe. The base is woody with cedar, cypress and musk. Overall this is an elegant, unique and original boozy-tobacco scent.👍🏽🥈

Very masculine! Reminds me of my grandpa, who religiously wore Stetson. I am a woman who doesn’t mind wearing more masculine scents. This was a blind buy. I can see this being the signature scent of an outdoorsy man with a big beard and endless knowledge of bushcraft. On my skin, the fir, bergamot, and gunpowder come out most. Very clean. Reminds me of camping in the Upper Peninsula, my senses encapsulated by the deeply fragrant and numerous fir trees as I admire the vastness of Lake Michigan.

This is a beautifully blended fragrance. It starts off balsamic and citrusy with a hint of pepper. A dark metallic scent comes through as the opening settles down. I'm not really getting any vetiver or booziness. The tobacco isn't screaming tobacco, but it is adding a bit of warmth. The citrus is a little too loud for me, but I'm not a big citrus person. If you're looking for a sophisticated masculine citrus fragrance without the sporty/designer opening, this might be it.

I tested Kościuszko because it was recommended as a gunpowder scent. After the first minute, a definite, strong gunpowder note appears amid a very nice fougere scent. Shortly thereafter, the gunpowder begins to mellow out and the general impression remaining is of a wonderful 1980's grandpa fougere with a touch of mineral. Close up, I could still identify the gunpowder. At this point, Kościuszko is at its best. Unfortunately, it only lasts like this for about 3 hours. After which, it dries down further to a generic 1980's fougere skin scent without the gunpowder or mineral aspect. Overall longevity is moderate with only moderate projection. If only that middle point mineral-y fougere lasted longer. I'll pass.

The citrusy notes and mild black pepper do appear on the opening, followed by the notable fir accord with the gunpowder (not too prominent), and subtle tobacco+cognac bias. I will say the gunpowder here is just enough to make of it and it’s propped by the cypress and cedar from the base notes. Not a whole lot of vetiver or musk here, but after a bit of time the gunpowder does wither away, with below average longevity in general. After the useful life of the frag, the tobacco forward and cognac bias can be seen. Could have been better, and with all things considered, this frag is lost on me for further consideration.

This is great. I get a big dose of bitter orange in the opening, and it's embellished with the freshness of pepper and the earthiness of gunpowder. It gives this uniquely flinty, stony facet that feels like tinder before a flame. There's a sense of smoke but I'd describe it more as an ashy metallic aroma that doesn't feel heavy and lets the aromatics shine through. It's balanced by citrusy sweetness and green woody elements like cypress and fir. Alongside those things it actually feels like a freshly picked herb or pepper with piney inflections. Fresh and alive. Over time it grows slightly warmer and drier and the woody elements come forward. It's easy to associate it with some kind of cocktail if you're used to working with actual aromatic bitters- I don't get the richness of a fermented alcohol but the bitters note is prominent enough to take you to that setting where someone is peeling an orange and squeezing it around the rim of your glass, or adding a dash of it to an old fashioned. The tobacco element sneaks its way into everything eventually, and a half hour into it I start picking up it's complex, funky warmth. It has a slightly sour, swampy musk drydown that I wish I had better words for, but it's not bad. I lump it into a category of perfumes that feel satisfyingly rugged and a bit retro.

How would you expect a fragrance named after an international military hero from XVIII century to smell? Yes, very masculine, in deed. After you know the context, you can start appreciating the notes that relate to the background of this person. Fir, cypress, cedar, cognac, tobacco, gunpowder. No nonsense. This man commands respect. He is mature and wears boots and uniform. He knows how to handle guns, has responsibilities, and makes important decisions. Not for a blind buy.

I wish this was available outside of the US too. Been eyeing it for too long.
