This Grand Affair

This Grand Affair is romantic and nostalgic, a full-bodied, powdery, oriental vanilla perfume. To me it's like a blend between Chanel N.5 and Musc Ravageur. If forced to scrutinize, it reminds me of the powder and decadent vanilla of Eau de Shalimar. But it's so gorgeous that I hate to compare it to any other perfume, as it stands on its own, not as a copycat of anything that came before it. There has to be a musk note here as well because it's like an elephant in the room; it's huge. Smells like it could be a vintage, and in fact, I heard these are re-creations of vintage perfumes. If that's the case, they did a fantastic job. Can be worn day or night, casually or for a special occasion. It has that ubiquitous quality in common with N.5. I have a bottle of N.5 parfum from 1950-60, and this could pass for it mixed with more vanilla and a slightly tangy note of artemesia that is very restrained so that it does not make the perfume sour but bright instead. Like a little pep in your step. Well done, very beautiful, with an obvious classic feel and a nod to the great perfumes of yesteryear. Or perhaps it IS a formula from yesteryear? I would not doubt it. Next morning: Still going strong after multiple washes of my wrists with soap, and still addicting me with every lovely inhalation. This Grand Affair is hugely underrated and deserves more attention from those who seek a modern perfume as good as a vintage. I have trouble w/ vanilla scents and I've tried so many. I own a few but it has always been difficult for me to add to my vanilla collection. Most of them come off to linear, have a play doh or cake batter smell and the vanillas that I own in my collection lean unisex. This Grand Affair is a lovely feminine vanilla that I have been looking for. It reminds me of Shalimar but while I did own a small bottle of that years ago, I did not like it enough to repurchase. The Grand Affair is Shalimar's prettier daughter and Mommy might be a tad jealous. This Grand Affair is soft, slightly dusty vanilla that is as soft and light as a feather while being very noticeable. It lingers in the air like a gentle kiss and a warm embrace. Very sensual, feminine and lovely. All of Blocki's perfumes are super classy and chic while also being very approachable. I really like this house and will be making a few purchases. Edit:11/27/22 This only reminds me of Shalimar as in it is the same style and some of the same key ingredients. I dislike Shalimar. I find it has a burned leather and aftershave smell that I just could not get past when I wore it. I tried to love it but don't and never will. I've just tried the Tonka flanker and it is more of the same w/ more tonka. If you want something that has a Shalimar, feel and is in the same family but is just stunning and easy to wear, check out This Grand Affair. My husband does not like this for some reason, but I may still add it to my collection someday.

STUNNING STUNNING STUNNING if you love classically styled Oriental perfumes, don’t miss this. The first hour is a gorgeous melange of aromatic, herbal notes swirling about a resinous vanilla pod (not gourmand at all) base. Very natural and high quality ingredients. Almost smells like actual essential oils. No iso super e or ambroxan in sight. Very gentle and organic throughout. It dries down to a resinous powder which is easy going and effortless. I can understand the comparison to Shalimar but it’s nothing like that tarry leather & strident bergamot bomb. This is breathtaking if you love classic perfumery but I don’t think it smells dated or old school at all. The powdery resinous dry down comes off quite unisex and modern. 10/10 Love this, bought a bottle a few hours after sampling.

This isn’t even a proper review just a quick note, I grabbed this sample at random from The hundreds lurking around and MY LORD this is STELLAR quality! It reminds of an old chypre with a huge whollop of honey. The deep, & intriguing base of a vintage with a modern touch. HIGHLY underrated. And I’ll be buying a FB ASAP. Do yourself a favor & grab a sample, or if you’re a lover of vintage, I’d say it’s a safe blind buy. Art in a bottle here folks. Don’t let this gem pass you by!

Smells warm, inviting...powdery, soft without being weak...a smooth scent, most likely from the davana, which isn't usually my favorite note, but it's very nice in this perfume. I do love orientals and this one is well blended and very beautiful. I love this. I'm seeing a bottle of this in my near future. I need another bottle of perfume like a hole in my head, but I know myself and it's all over.. gotta have it. NOTE- this gets better the longer it's on..oh, my...😍
