Blu

I have a miniature bottle, which unfortunately has the cap in a silvery grey plastic, rather than the silver ones on the full sized bottles. Be aware of this if you buy this to collect the bottle. The first minute of the opening is very harsh and nasty, so I don’t recommend smelling this rightaway. After a minute or so it settles into a gorgeous baby powder type smell, with something fresh and green. The osmantus has that beautiful elegant apricot smell here, and the fragrance is powdery in a fuzzy way, like peach fuzz, and I get the sensation of smelling the fuzzy skin of a ripe peach. There’s a metallic tinge to it at this stage as well, probably from the orange blossom. The fragrance becomes more peachy before the florals start to come forward along with the cloves. Here the baby powder is almost completely gone (that stage doesn’t last long) and the scent becomes more creamy and sensual. An indolic jasmine starts to take centre stage, and she shines! The heliotrope is there, but subdued.. The more this fragrance dries down, the cosier it gets. The dry down is extremely addictive and sexy, but also warm and comforting. It contains accords of dried fruits and is almost boozy, like a fruit liquor. There’s some nectar here too and honey.. The sandalwood is so creamy and soft, and there’s a powdery sparkle here. This is so pretty that I think I might actually get a full bottle. This is one of those scents that changes throughout and keeps you engaged. At times the dry down smells almost chocolate-y. Later on it goes back to smelling more delicate and powdery with noticeable violet. Here it doesn’t smell like baby powder, it’s more makeup like her. It smells like someone’s scarf might smell, like a warm hug, a maternal figure, but not quite mature if that makes sense.. The longer it’s on my skin the cleaner it smells. The drydown is a bit soapy and becomes more so when the last notes evaporate. A gentle fresh clean soap. It is gorgeous! It smells extremely familiar, but I can’t pinpoint it, which is driving me crazy. I think maybe my teacher wore this in primary school in the 90s, that would explain some of my associations.. though timeline wise I’m not sure as I finished primary school and the time this came out/a year later. Perhaps there was something similar smelling around at the time.. It’s so good, and I’m absolutely in love! While it doesn’t smell contemporary, this is not a vintage fragrance to be scared of. There aren’t any notes that I would consider an acquired taste. There are no aldehydes, there’s no musty purse smell, it’s not heavy and intoxicating. There is something quite 90s about this, but imo 90s fragrances are amongst the easiest to wear and hard to hate. This scent reminds me a little bit of montale eau cuivree 2015 at some stages, but it’s much deeper and much more sensual. I think it’s the carnation-heliotrope-jasmine combo combined with the metallic aspect and peach fuzz sensation. Blu is the more sophisticated and sensual one though. Eau cuivree has none of those indoles and dirt. This is light enough to be worn all year, though I’m not sure if it could become cloying in heat. I can see it go either way as it has a creamy lotion aspect, watery lotus and dewy peach, which gives it a summery vibe, but it also has a good dose of nectar and spicy sweetness that could go in the opposite direction.

I bought this perfume back in 1997, edt 50ml, it smelled so wonderful, but than I got pregnant, and, I couldn't stand the smell of my perfumes, so, I gave my BLU to my mother. Last summer, I spent a few months at my mothers cottage at the west-coast north of Bergen, and there she had stored a lot of the perfumes I gave to her. Now my mother is 86 y, and the only perfume she wears is Pleasures, so, she gave me all of my old perfumes back, including my than much beloved Blu Bluemarine :)) And, I'm so very happy!! This old perfume (edt) smells absolutely wonderful after all these years, and yes, it smells kinda Sun Moon Stars, and the notes are just the same. And, the best of all, it's still about 35 ml left in the bottle, and, it lasts for hours and hours on my skin :)

When choosing a few vintage miniatures to buy, Blu was among the wide selection available. I had never heard of it, but was drawn to the bottle - I never choose in this manner, but there is something so compelling about it. The frosted, textured glass and avant-garde lid is otherworldly, reminding me of fairytale villains. The scent inside is lovely too - a rich, powdery vintage-style floral with a hint of spice. Blu opens with slightly syrupy peach notes, enhanced to perfection by the sweet, floral-peach osmanthus. As it develops, a bold white floral accord emerges, led by tuberose and jasmine, with a nice powdery hint of orris root. The florals are not clean and pretty, they are indolic, even somewhat "dirty", enhanced by a cloud of patchouli. Cloves add spice, while freesia adds a heady dose of old-school sweetness. Some rosy peony is detectable too after a little while, adding some prettiness, alongside some hazy, almond-like heliotrope. A hint of peach persists. As it begins to dry down, woody notes creep in, with vanilla adding sweetness. These, along with the remnants of the spices, takes Blu to old-school oriental territory. It fades to a musky-vanilla skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate. Rich throughout, in the manner of vintage florals, Blu is a well-composed scent, elegant in a mature, old-fashioned manner, ideally worn as a transeasonal evening scent. Perhaps not full-bottle worthy for me due to personal taste, but it is still a lovely scent. An underrated gem. 3.5/5.

Maybe far to be twins or even similars but this is the old sister of Ninfea by Blumarine. An ancient powdery orris and heliotrope and cloves and violette fights with soapy ninfea fruity apricot notes of osmanthus... I don't find this so acquatic but it is funny read in the comments how every single person notice and is focalized in certain ascpects of this talcum/dirtyflowery/fruity/little acquatic complex fragrance. curious. Happens. It has some fresh aspect but I don't find a properly summer fragrance in this creation. I think more to a light velvet coat when I smell this juice how the bottle probably suggest. Good for a barely cold night in may. Reminds me Echo by Mario Valentino, Trance by Betrix. As the mentioned scents this could be a sort of "Poison baby talc".

I don't get the frutiness in this. The lotus really stands out and I think of it as being more floral aquatic. Smells clean and summery.
