Ambitious

A very powdery cardamom fragrance. It doesn't smell cheap - the execution is quality - but it doesn't smell memorable or intriguing. I could see a hotel using this as a background fragrance. I suppose it might be nice if my bed linens faintly smelled of this when I came into the room, but no one would remember I was there by this smell on the sheets.

JUNE 2023 revisit. Almost a year later I’m doing the sample revisit. I’ve ripped my palate open over the last year. It doesn’t give me mouldering logs anymore (neither does Coromandel which I love and ponied up for a FB) I get the rose but it doesn’t fully appear, it’s warm and fuzzy once the intense patchouli opening softens down. Something fruity even like a distant red berry. Coromandel’s sister. I actually really appreciate this and will wear my decant. A FB of this is almost impossible to find here and much pricier than my Chanel. But I’ll keep my eyes open. Very strong like now I understand it. ####### JULY 2022 Trying to figure this one out and being patient with it. First scent is pungent mouldering logs. Hits the back of my throat and makes me cough. I got that same reaction with Coromandel. Hesitantly approaching arm vicinity and its softening. Vanillic, powdery, not particularly sweet once that odd banana note disappears. Spicy at first. Definite amber. Not sure where the rose has gone. My nose doesn’t know what to make of it. I’ll keep trying it and edit review with a few more wears.

To me this is a total shoe polish idiom fragrance. I think the experienced fragrance-heads will know what I mean by that - kind of resiny, oily ... even perhaps petrochemically . I love that idiom - and this is an outstanding example of it - robust, stonking ... a veritable jagganath of a fragrance. But I am perplexed by the notes-list. I wouldn't have said there was rose or sandalwood in it. Or perhaps I can see how there could be - just so deeply embedded in the gassy amber as to loose their particular identities.

This is Xerjoff Richwood. As soon as I sprayed it there was a familiar sandalwood with spice and patchouli. Extremely well done, slightly more polished than Chanel Coromandel and Richwood but in the same vain definitely
