Hasu

Hasu made by Boadicea to celebrate the Chinese year of rabbit or the water rabbit is a majestic fragrance. It's fruity, sweet, floral, fresh, mildly aquatic & ozonic and with the goodness of spices, musk It opens with a fruity lavender, spices and florals. And all the ingredients are so well blended. Hasu is silky smooth and wearing Hasu is like putting on a fine silk dragon robe with sunset orange & yellow hues. If silk had a smell this would be it. While wearing this opulent fragrance I was reminded of the movie The Last Emperor, the forbidden city, fine Ming porcelain, the silk dragon robes the Chinese emperors and royalty have worn since ages and all good things Chinese. Hasu captures the Water Rabbit's agility with its lightness, fleeting citrus fruits notes that play hide and seek (evocative of agility and playfulness) and an aquatic nuance that reflects the splendour and the silky opulence of the forbidden city beautifully. There is a bit of hay too which I think is the most appropriate, most stunning use of hay in a fragrance that captures the water rabbit. Ganymede is ofcourse excellent but Hasu is on an entirely different level altogether and I don't get the comparisons of Hasu "entirely" with Ganymede except mainly for a mineral note thats faint in Hasu and which is prominent in Ganymede. There is a similar vibe because of saffron, mineral note and mandarin orange but otherwise both are vastly different. Ganymede is the breath of C-3PO where as Hasu is the Grand Chinese Emperor in his imperial court. The base of Hasu seems to be amber with musk as florals recede a bit. Hasu has great, exceptional silken lightness to it but with good longevity and projection. And Hasu brings the "water rabbit" to the wearer perfectly with its lightness, hay, fleeting citrus fruits notes and silky aquatic nuances. Hasu is the finest from the Chinese zodiac collection. When Marco Polo returned to Europe after spending many years in China he spoke to his people in Europe about the luxury and opulence he had seen there. But people in Europe just refused to believe what he said. And hilariously, people began calling bluff masters and liars as "That's a Marco Polo" When Marco Polo was on his death bed a priest visited him and asked him to confess that his stories of the luxuries and opulence in China were a big lie. Marco Polo replied -- I have revealed only half of what I have seen! Hasu is that Chinese opulence and luxury of Kublai Khan's palace that poor Marco was talking about - in a bottle !! Skeptical? I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while, being a fan of Ganymede this was definitely on my radar. The good: This is definitely a very very good clone of Ganymede. Has the core and then adds a lot of fruity, sweet dimension to the whole thing. The bad: Price. Is this 5 times better than Ganymede? No, not at all. This should in fact be a bit cheaper than the original. Additionally, this misses the point of Ganymede, which evokes space and futuristic themes. By making the sweetness the key player, it turns into something more akin to Dubai style clones.

This is better than Ganymede, in my opinion. Or at the very least it is more versatile, easier to wear, easier to like, office friendly, and less likely to offend strangers. I really like it. 9/10

Lovely but frightfully overpriced fougere designed as a tribute to the Chinese Year of the Rabbit. The scent is meant to evoke a grassy aromatic feel and it achieves it quite well. It opens with notes of violet leaf, cypress, saffron, sage, orange and lavender. The heart is brief and has a prominent hay note surrounded by orris, osmanthus and rose. The perfume settles on a powdery bed of synthetic oakmoss and musk, along with patchouli, pepper and amber. Like most of the scents in this line the price is for the beautifully etched gold plated pewter engraved bottle. The unisex scent has moderate to strong projection and excellent longevity. Enjoy!

Begins with a spicy green-fresh vibe and yes, initially it is reminiscent of Ganymede but not a knock off or copy. Ganymede has a metallic fresh vibe while Hasu begins more spicy and eventually blends with a harmony of florals. They definitely belong in the same family but do not actually smell that alike! Anyway, with that comparison out of the way, Hasu gives me imagery of walking through a country path on a warm & sunny Spring day with a chorus of wildlife in the backdrop and new born flowers blooming into life. It's a very sophisticated vibe and I feel this fragrance shines on walks both in the country and in the city. Very nice!
