Monarch

Monarch up now, as part of my Selfridge tour round - and this one is a Selfridges Exclusive. And - it's pretty good. The opening was somewhat 'generic fruity' but very pleasant, natural and uplifting. The notes say, among others; 'berries and grapefruit' to open and I'd go with that, with a tiniest smidgen of green and cardamom. Think 'real Niche' and name it - it's almost certainly not there. Vanilla and/or tonka, combined with the lack of any form orange or other 'different' obtrusive friut/floral. Lack of the obscenely overused orange blossom, violets or lavenders. And smoke - totally none of it. In short; the oud and incense (which no doubt this scent has) are hidden well away beneath pleasantries and all the while being steeped with vanilla. It's nice, smooth, a smidgen sweet and relaxing if not mind-poppingly awesome or deeply seducing. So it's passed my notorious Top-lover 'safe-head' acid-test, kudos! I didn't get much artemisia very thankfully, I think (meant to be yet another bitter green note) and the scent is sweetened with one of my favorites as mentioned; tonka. As long as the other notes are safe enough, tonka is something I never grow tired of. It's there, with vanilla, a smidgen of oud that loses battle with a beautiful sweet incense. This scent is starting to come out to play here and I'm liking it. Then the woods. It's safe and unisex yet playful and cheeky with those unlit incense sticks, like a girl wanting badly to pull off to a fine shisha bar a little to often. Picture Creed's Ambre carnelle, those who are familiar with that - this is (sort of) the 'cleaned up' Modern reformulation. Very nice, very post 2000's. Powder and 'old lady' replaced with chic and refined. The very generous (and pretty) sales lady gave me an outrageous offer of £90 for the 100ml Exclusive bottle, which looking at it now, very sad I turned down (can't believe that now, what was I thinking?)! Will have to return to pick it up, it's a fine fine scent that marries old with new beautifully. It's £150 for the big bottle otherwise which is still, given at some of the gob-smackingly terrible scents Roja and Amouage have, is quite the deal! Again, Bodecia's materials and craft is 2nd to almost none, expect no designer to even come close to the finesse on display with the notes this line plays with and I think it surpasses many Amouages and Roja's. Very nice, much like this scent's aroma itself. For me, the best of the whole House by far, easily surpassing Glorious (too much astringent rotting fruit-like weirdness and magnolia in the fruit syrup). I will likely need further testing specially to find the notes I really want like the cinnamon, rose and labdanum. This could yet score higher if I find those but for now, it's very solid and very pretty from this one. My rating: 7/10. Quality: 10/10. A hidden gem. Testing courtesy of Selfridges.

This is a soft spicy (cardamom) suede scent, red berries, pink pepper very prominent, smooth and slightly powdery from the Tonka, zero Oud (not sure why it’s voted highly.) To be clear this is in the same category as a soft spicy scent which is usually suede, tobacco, or pink pepper dominated, similar to CC Amberwood or VR Spicebomb. Not the same but similar. The red fruit is what stands out from the other scents with this profile.

goes on much like Molton Brown Oudh Accord and Gold with a tad less amber and a titch more oud; after about an hour, the oud fades and the amber rises; lovely with great lasting power and projection; there's a hint of rose in the background

As usual with a lot of the Boadicea, it hits you in the nose and brain right away with high quality, potent, unique scents. Hard not to buy instantly. Beautiful warm, spicy leather!

Great fragrance. Smells like the child of tobacco oud and Oud wood intense, and more wearable.

This feels like an easy to wear leather right off the bat. It's blended really well, but you can pick up the vibe each note brings to the table. At opening spritz I get a nice fruity leather, mixed with a tea note that hums in the background, base notes introduce themselves early on like the Oud and incense, providing an Iris like note that leans a bit more darker. There is slight sweetness to it, but gets humbled by the darker base notes, allowing the soft leather to really shine. This to me is a great Fall/Winter fragrance that can be worn throughout the day, allowing you to switch it up at night time if you're planning on going out or doing something special. I don't like talking about price when it comes to Boadicea, because you know what you're in for when you're exploring this brand, but this is on the more affordable side of their product offerings. If you get a chance to put your nose on this, I recommend it. If you love it, I can see it being a signature scent for some. A lovely Oriental Chypre that is elegant and also crowd pleasing. The perfume opens with notes of citrus, artemisia, tea and berries. The heart is composed of cardamom, cinnamon, white florals, rose and pink pepper. The perfume settles on a powdery base of leather, slight oud, oakmoss, patchouli and tonka bean with slight hints of incense, labdanum and vanilla. Not the best of this line in my opinion but well constructed and very pleasing. You will feel a bit regal wearing this sweet rich nuanced composition. Enjoy!

The smell is very good, very wearable. One of the reasons I bought it, it's because it was rated long lasting here and I believe in people's experiences. But the one I bought is very weak and is not long lasting at all. At the same time I bought a Chariot and although some people scored Chariot quite low on the longevity and sillage, I score it a 10 with flying colors on these fronts. So I guess Boadicea has some batch issues. I'd recommend caution with this brand.

Incense and leather with a mild berried tea and spiced tonka undertone. Smells pretty good. Interesting. Not the highest quality leather, but far from the worst. Something dark and refined here. Not sweet. Can be sexy, particularly with leather clothing. Picks up a mild balsamic vibe into the drydown. Performance and longevity leave something to be desired.

Not exactly a leather scent. Just feel distant leather hints; what strikes immediately is a very pleasant fruity and citrus. Particular scent, definitely noticeable and long-lasting. To try.

fruitty rubber leather, great performance but i dont want to smell like fruity rubbery leather kinda guy.

Opens up with the Boadicea spices, not too oriental tho. Mature, joyful, slight bitter Artemisia, get the Tea, florals not loud and not too heavy on the Incense, which to me personally makes perfect. The particular spice accord will stay for a good few hours, notes are also pretty much detectable as separates, tryna get to the Fresia, just think it fits so well in this mix up. Pleasant Leather, warm, base is not bitter or dark, and then it's not feminine nether, simply solid with the fine ness. Drydown's a movie. Boadicea signature all the way, deductable, 3rd wear so far in 2 daze and it looks like there'll be a lot more to be discovered.

This smells great. I don't really like leather, but it's not overpowering. It has some nice warm spices like cinnamon and cardamom, which i love, to balance it out. Very subtle sweetness. Extremely classic masculine. Dries down subtly woody. This has no elements to it which i typically dislike in a classic masculine oriental. It won't wow you, because it doesn't have that designer ethyl maltol sweetness, but definitely great for an everyday wear.

It smells very similar to Tom Ford Tuscan Leather...I'm testing them side by side. Obviously not the same or a clone or anything, just similar. If you like TL, but think it a bit harsh give monarch a try, it's smoother.

This could be a great alternative to Spirit Of Dubai Meydan. However it's let down by horrendous performance for both longevity and sillage , add the price to it and it's not recommended at all.

Not sure how do you guys smell tuscan leather or anything related to leather. Smells fruity,spicy. and balsamic More Like Spicebomb Viktor&Rolf + Valentino Uomo Noir Absolu

velvety suede leather, spicy and balmy...to me, the best outing from this house!
