Nebulous

Honestly, if you think that Malle's Al Layl was too hardcore do not even look at this. Put aside hopes of golden strands of saffron, promises of sweet rose delights, the delicacy of violet or even the warm embrace of oriental amber until hours into the dry down or even the next day. But I doubt that most casual oud lovers would even have the stamina to reach that stage. What we have here is a bona fide assault of Cambodi/Hindi oud that combines all the smells you could encounter if you were to spend a weekend on a farm in the middle of nowhere. There are moist and dark moldy aspects, fecal and feral animalics and even a selection of ripe Limburger cheese will tantalise your senses - and initially there is literally nothing at all that would tame the oudian onslaught. There is a sexiness about this that would escape all but the most serious oud heads - and it's those that would happily embark on a pilgrimage to Harrods and ravage their bank account to the tune of £1250 for a bottle that would make a pair of stinky socks appear a cheap and readily available olfactory delight, whilst most mortals would assume rigor mortis or turn away in horror holding their heads in their hands. When I woke up in the morning Nebulous had dried down into a wonderfully fresh-spicy woody-animalic scent as eventually the rest of the combo was allowed on stage. But make no mistake, this juice is more uncompromisingly oudy than the Malle (and less flashy) and is definitely more challenging than, say, for example, Ys Uzac's Oud Ankaa, which is more like the dusty and dry woody darkness you'd imagine to emanate from a Pharaoh's tomb. It's nothing at all like the sweetly safe Roja gum resins, the homeopathic oud dosages of the likes of Xerjoff or the innocent spicy nichey samey rose ouds. Nebulous is definitely worth a try if one is up for a challenge. I felt so sorry for the guys in the overcrowded subway last night :-)

This is a stunning Rose-oud by BTV and probably the best on the market. It's very addictive and masterfully blended by Provenzano. If you don't enjoy really wild and stinky ouds then this might suit you as I feel it is a bit more palatable compared to some of it's counterparts and therefore may suit western noses a bit more, especially as it settles down after it's opening blast. Let's put it this way, you can at least go out in public with this on whereas it would be a risk wearing say..Oud Damascena by Katana for example which is really pungent. It does unfortunately have outrageous pricing which has grown in recent years. The price of this perfume currently is £1500, only two years ago it was £1300. The greed of perfume houses knows no bounds it seems. Let's address the notes list which Fragrantica never seem to get right: Top notes: Saffron, Pink Pepper, Cinnamon, Raspberry, Aniseed. Heart Notes: Violet, Rose, Geranium, Indian Tuberose. Base Notes: Musk, Amber, Oud, Cypriol, Sandalwood, Benzoin, Cistus Labdamum, Vanilla. As a final note, the alternative for his perfume is to buy Octavian by Electimuss. It's the same perfumer - Christian Provenzano. It's basically a lower budget version with perhaps more synthetics but still very good in it's own right.

I’ve had Nebulous for about two and a half years now and every time I wear it, I’m reminded why I fell so hard for it. One spray on my wrist and it erupts into full BEAST mode: this dense, woody‐musky‐animalic cloud that feels like stepping straight into a dark, velvety heaven. Among rose‐oud powerhouses, Nebulous doesn’t just compete; it obliterates most of them. And with rumours of a 40%+ oil concentration floating around, it honestly wouldn’t surprise me. It behaves like an extrait on steroids. That first spray is unforgettable: a sharp, gorgeous burst of rose and saffron that hits instantly, followed by the ouds rolling in like a warm, resinous tide. Hours later, 13 and counting, it melts into the most divine skin scent. The drydown is most euphoric, almost intoxicating, with amber and musk weaving together in this sensual, lingering hum that feels like it’s part of your own skin. Yes, it’s pricey. Painfully so. But we only get one life and sometimes a little indulgence is exactly what the soul needs. If you can swing it, Nebulous is one of those rare luxuries that genuinely feels worth the splurge. And trust me, one spray is all you need. This bottle might outlive your Tinder or Grindr hookups - sorry, pun intended.

This short review is based on a few wearings but being such an incisive fragrance I don't think you need months. I didn't buy the bottle just because of the price , around $1400. The fragrance is one of the best if not the best oud-rose combo I've even put my nose upon. It's start pretty harsh & skanky but after about 30-45 min is starts to settle down. And when I say starts I really mean starts because this settles for hours. The best part of it only start after 3-4h and goes way beyond the 12h mark. The dry down is superb and insatiable. It's a combo of leathery rose and oud kept middle eastern but pleasant. Now, comparisons. I like this way better than The Night and I need to put my nose on Electimuss Octavian (also done by Provenzano) as it's the only one I can afford from the bunch of similar DNA's. If this would be around the 300-400 mark I would get it in a heartbeat and settle for my need of oud rose. This needs to be smelled with patience to be understood but as it's such a rewarding fragrance after the initial "battle".

This is currently my favorite perfume in my collection. As a couple others have mentioned, the opening on this can be rough. The official notes mark it as saffron, but I don't smell that on card nor on skin. In the first 15-20 minutes, I smell strong animalic oud. It veers close to a fecal scent. However, once the opening dies down, the perfume is the pinnacle of rose/ouds. Nebulous conjures feelings of a dark night, but at the same time provides a comforting warmth, maybe from some residual saffron that lingers into the heart and base. This is one of those perfumes that has the power to cheer me up regardless of my mood that day. I know the price on this is prohibitive to many folks, but many consider performance when purchasing expensive perfumes. This fragrance will last forever. I can smell this on myself well beyond 12 hours, and I have received comments from my SO the next day after spraying.

Nebulous is simply stunning - a contemporary and refined scent for a wealthy but subdued individual. It seems to create a perfect balance of the innocent beauty of soft flowers, with the animalistic capture of oud. As I’ve mentioned before in previous reviews, I’m unsure if Boadicea even uses natural oud but who knows. The oud note is front and centre here, initially it comes across rather medicinal and sticks to the back of your throat. This soon calms down however, revealing a sophisticated and lustrous concoction of sweet saffron, gentle rose and a significant allure of powdery violet. I must say I love this fragrance - the perfect balance of exotic oud with that unmistakable powdery, makeup-ey floral aspect is absolutely divine. Would I pay over a £1,000 for a bottle? Absolutely not. Despite how amazing this smells, there are other fragrances I love far more for much less money.

A lovely but frightfully overpriced fragrance from the superb house of Boadicea this is yet another Rose Oud actually albeit with ‘high quality’ ingredients. The ‘high quality’ is bit questionable as there are many natural perfumers these days offering you the same goods for less than a third of the retail price of this perfume. The perfume opens with notes of Turkish rose and saffron, moves to a heart of Laotian agarwood and violet and settles on a base of amber and synthetic musk. The perfume is beautifully blended and has a pronounced sillage, projection and longevity. All in all a superb scent ( I love it) but please tread with caution before you empty your bank account over this very expensive baby. Nebulous is aptly named because they are being quite nebulous about what this is actually worth. Enjoy!

If you are an oud lover, you need to have this in your collection. Nebulous is an extraordinarily complex fragrance that is a seamless combination of rose and oud. It has a powdery facet to it that is so addicting and inviting. I detect 0 skaniness from the fragrance. Although I notice similarities between this and Octavian, there are so many more nuances present in nebulous that makes it worth it.

This smells 99.9% identical to Midnight Degree by the same house of Boadicea the Victorious. But $1,400 more expensive. I find BTV does this a lot. Nebulous = Midnight Degree. Elaborate= Complex. Mayfair= Victory Tiangou = The King. BTV Hood collection. Save money and buy the cheaper!

So similar to FM the Night. Well constructed. Excellent longevity. Great scent trail. If you want a rose dirty oud bomb with no apologies you'll like this. Not sure Harrods does lay-A-Way for this 1800 dollar juice! But, definitely one of the very best rise ouds on the market.

It’s nice. I have a very macerated bottle. I like it but it’s not my favorite: I agree it’s average. I own hundred of bottles of perfumes. 90% are Niche. So I have some beautiful Rose ouds. So this one is overhyped. Ppl who don’t know better are the ones who love this one. Bottom line it’s just ok.

price aside, Nebulous is incredible. The quality of ingredients and the blending are impeccable. Christian Provenzano has taken Malle's "the night" and softened the oud note and removed the unpleasant rotten "cheese" smell. The added violet note adds a different dimension to the fragrance. However, there is a distinct bitterness to this im not enjoying, I’m guessing thats from the violet or the choice of oud being used. if you have the money and you love strong oud perfumes, this is your endgame.

The best oud out there. But you have to REALLY love seriously strong oud, as this is a tour de force of the boldest oud I’ve ever encountered. For serious lovers of quality and powerful oud only.

Good god why on earth would anyone ever want to smell like this. Nevermind paying thousands of dollars in the process. Judging by the reviews you would think this was the best thing since god created females. They left out the fact you'll end up smelling like a 100 year old female on her way to bingo.

Nebulous is the best rose oud combo in perfumery. I say this with certainty because I have the best ouds in the world in my collection. In my opinion, it is Provenzano's masterpiece, which is without a doubt one of my favorite noses. Well constructed, chic, opulent, with simply absurd and addictive projection, hold and sillage. Nebulous is an unforgettable perfume, which evolves in a very interesting and profound way. The perfume opens with this very strong, animalic and natural Oud, and a beautiful rose, which reminds me of the best facet of Portrait of a Lady by Ropion. The blend here is absolutely perfect, with the Oud speaking much louder than the rose, but without at any point losing it completely. Nebulous is about Oud. During the drydown, saffron becomes almost as much a protagonist as Oud and rose, mixing with musk and violet, creating an extremely sexy and mysterious leather accord. Anyone who says that Nebulous can be easily replaced by Octavian has never actually smelled both perfumes, or understands very little about raw materials and the construction of a perfume. It's clear that Provenzando (the nose behind Nebulous and Octavian), tried to emulate the same vibe in Octavian as Nebulous, the main accord clearly has the same intention. I have both perfumes and I like them both, but it is indisputable that Nebulous is a masterpiece and Octavian is a (really) good Oud-Rose-Saffron perfume, with less investment and more synthetic materials. Nebulous is irreplaceable and absolutely worth the money.

Ohhhhh myyyyyy goshhhhhhh. This is *it*. THIS is why I have a nose. Millions of years of evolution were leading only to this point: to smell this juice. It is so cruel. It is so brutal. It will break your heart. It will make you yearn and crave and want, it will humble and chastize you, you will be beholden to it and submit. When you wear it you will be wearing the devils cape stolen from his back, you will be coercing a celestial choir into singing a hard rock halleluja. This is so dark, so dry, so austere, it is indescribabley debonair. This is the scent of the 1 percent. This is not for making friends, it is for breaking hearts and making every passer by resent your every privileged breath but wish from the bottom of their soul that even just for one day they could be you. I *wish* I could afford a bottle. I also wish that the people who *can* afford to indulge themselves like this also do selfless things with the same volumes of money, because you can do a lot of good for someone of modest means with that kind of money. If reading this review you realise how your life is not complete without a bottle (which, if you have the means, it really isn't), I hope you also rescue some puppies and put a homeless person into rehab, plant some trees, and put a refugee through college. And maybe throw a bottle my way, you know, for good karma.

I find the comparison to FM’s The Night to be so wrong, just because you have a rose oud with strong performance doesn’t make them similar. The Night is definitely finer tuned and more nuanced more like a swiss watch to the nebulous sledge hammer. This is a rose blended with a decent quality oud thats overdosed. The Night u feel is moree ethereal yet present notable trickery with ambroxan and ambers creating a meticulously rounded and lifted effect boosting the rose oud. Nebulous is sheer force blasting through. Nebulous has an initial blast and sillage which is quite large then tames maybe by 90-120 minutes. The Night’s initial blast is tremendous but calms down within 15 minutes to a decently noticeable sillage. I would say Nebulous is louder the first two hours but the FM just keeps holding that 1-2m sillage for hours and hours once I felt the sillage was solid for like 12+ hours on that. I would get a decant of this for days when you just want to conquer a room. The Night is more refined I would get a bottle of that. (Almost through my bottle of that actually and need to replenish). The UAE oud by Taif is closer to the night in the inital blast then it takes Nebulous’s direction 30 minutes in. The sillage on that one although initially strong will seriously lack behind these 60-90 minutes in becoming relatively intimate.

Adding a bottle of your favourite Boadicea to your fragrance wardrobe is pure joy which can be understood only by a fragrance lover. This is undoubtedly a masterpiece and there is a striking similarity with Octavian briefly on the first spritz. Both the fragrances move later in different directions. Octavian has more rose. Nebulous has deeper, denser, richer oud with rose etc remaining subdued. I got some quizzical looks while wearing this but it was their problem. Overall a superb scent. Edit I used little bit of this in the morning and by evening it was still a power house yet it had mellowed down in the best possible way. I met someone in the evening (who was in the Gulf for a long time) and he asked me if this was oud oil. Wafts of this scent made him nostalgic about his days in the Gulf. He said the scent reminded him of the ritual of burning oud chips, rich Shaikhs wearing oud oil and generously gifting away oud oil bottles to their friends and relatives, and well scented homes with bakhoor and oud chips thats the pride of the women folk. What was just a good perfume for me was a trip down the memory lane for him. Try a sample.

I went down to Harrods and tried Nebulous. Wow, wow, wow! this perfume is beast mode. I love oud, musk, anything animalic and skanky. This is your dark, barnyard oud with musk. The SA was cautious when spraying my wrist as I had to take the subway back home and was a bit worried about the passengers on the train. I got an odd look from a middle-aged woman who sat next to me and a smile from a guy on my other side. I am pretty sure it blew their noses away!I was told that Nebulous has 43% perfume oils which explains the astronomical performance (usual parfum contains 30% or less). Anyways, back to this gem, it lasted a good 24 hours with just one spray on my wrist and the dry down is exquisite. It turned into a skin scent roughly 12 hours later and the next morning I could smell a gorgeous soft woody, musky scent until it finally said 'au revoir'. I will definitely be saving up for this Boadicea gem. I also tried Majestic oud by Roja Dove which is an absolute joke for £1450. Highly highly recommend Nebulous if one is up for the challenge!

Absolutely so good, I contemplated purchasing a back-up bottle. The first 15 minutes is a little feral, but after that the smoothest, oud, iris, and rose you can imagine. Wears like a second skin in the sense that it radiates a bubble that lasts all day which is highly enjoyable. Such rare olfactory depth, that it feels as if you never smell the entire fragrance because of the immense quality and richness. This is likely the best fragrance I have ever had on my skin, not the same on paper at all, the warmth of the skin really aides in transitioning between the phases of the fragrance. Boadicea has a way of making fragrances that I otherwise thought were solid releases and by using quality ingredients and slightly different stoichiometry turn them into absolute stunners. Nebulous is a 10/10 for me.

£1,400 for this honestly ? 😃 Well, lt smells really great though.... but common! This is way too expensive for what i am getting regardless.. I'm getting nice Cambodian / Hindi oud like manure or like a dirty-horse kind of smell and similar to Abjar from the spirit of Dubai at the opening, but it's not the same as Abjar, Abjar is more horsy smell kind & I'm also getting portrait of a Lady vibe by Frederick mulle from the mid-drydown as well. Update: After couple of full wearing... Oh boyyy! This is high quality Cambodian & Laotian oud and I love it.. I'm confused whether to get full bottle or not as the price tag is too much, but in the meantime I'll continue to enjoy my decant.. Enjoy!

I found out from the fragrantica news that Oud Infini it was discontinued, and I remembered Nebulous. Brothers and sisters perfumistas, don't mourn the disappearance of OI, because you have Nebulous!!! Its price is like a nebula for the mind, but what does it matter? It's the most skanky perfume I've ever smelled! I have no way to guess if it is from oud, which is also laotian, expensive and rare, or from musk, but it is criminal!!!! Amber and saffron try in vain to divert attention from the 2 protagonists, there is no question of flowers.... It has been on the blotter for about a week, only on the second or even the third day it seems to be gone the embarrassing smell of butt....

Rich decadent and slightly animalic opening of Oud. You can take one sniff of this and immediately recognize the high quality ingredients used. The aroma dances on floral, animalic, and musky in the open but the dry down which lasts eternally is where the beauty lies. Once the Oud becomes less pungent, the creamy musk/saffron allow the fragrance to ride into an elegant rose. The blend is masterful and gives reason to the insane pricing. If you can afford this, than this is worth the price

Soaked oud, saffron, patchouli, jammy rose, leather, lactonic notes. In the general ballpark of something like Xerjoff's 'More than words' or Electimuss' 'Octavian' albeit with higher quality ingredients. Pleasant but in my opinion not worth the price of admission. Edit: This actually showcases very high quality oud and rose. The rose is pristine! Then again, at a ridiculous price. Please do yourselves a favour and get ALD's 'Beauty & the beast' instead for $350 instead of this for £1100.

Soo good. I'm recently learned to appreciate oud after collecting perfume for about 5 years. This is incredibly easy to wear and will make you feel like a big shot. The best oud I've smelled. I would simply describe the oud as very dark green and alive. You WILL be the best smelling man in the room. Smells super sexy and masculine. 2-3 sprays is perfect. 4 ABSOLUTE max is you really want to make a statement. First hour or so is nuts.

This goes on suuuper funky I was afraid it would be straight cow farm the entire time, then it settled to extremely animalic like wet dog within 5 minutes and after another 15 it calmed to an oud rose musk with very slight sweet undertones. I would say this has a real value of about 450

Divine...Animalistic, sultry, musky. I’m glad I have a back up bottle, because if I got rid of my whole collection, and kept this; I think I’d be okay :) The Violet also adds a playful touch to this composition, which I adore too. Simply amazing.

I have posted a review already but this is an update. This perfume with its exquisite dry down lasted a whole 3 days with just one spray on my wrist. Wow, wow, wow, kudos to Boadicea.

Opens up extremely woody and earthy with a dankness. Not in the way of barnyard, but something moist like oakmoss in a forest, but without the oakmoss smell if that makes sense.

Bang average oud. Yes. You heard me. Bang. Average.
