Opal

This is a very unique scent, nothing that I have smelled before. This is a combination of floral, creamy/powdery and woody fragrance. The predominant notes from my nose are rose, iris/orris, spicy notes (such as saffron, black pepper and cinnamon), lavender, suede accord and cedarwood/sandalwood. There is a bit of green from bay leaf and some metallic feel to the opening of this scent, makes it match the Zodiac animal. There are also slight traces of coffee and tonka that make the scent somewhat sweet and warm in the drydown. Overall this is very interesting and different fragrance that Boadicea has introduced. It's not mass appealing at all, but rather, it's a very niche scent. In terms of performance, it exhibits strong projection and longevity. Whether or not it is worth $1000 is personal and subjective.

An extremely elegant, unique and sophisticated fragrance where all the notes blend seamlessly, slightly floral at the beginning although perfectly unisex. The rose stands out for me around ten minutes in and tends to last although its very much tempered by the orris and suede accords which give it a really luxurious creamy almost powdery feel. Expensive although certainly worth a try, if like me your really smitten with it you might even want to consider getting a bottle!

Opal is my Christmas Eve scent for 2025. It is very luxurious. I mainly smell coffee so dark it verges towards oud, and saffron, and iris. If you mixed Bewitching Yasmin (coffee/oud) minus the vanilla sweetness with BTV Rebellious (saffron/violet/iris) minus the fruit. I don't smell the fruit Eddie mentions in the English midwinter but I intend to look for it. My experience so far is warm spicy and fresh spicy.

Beautiful creamy, spicy fragrance. So love the orris with the cocoa combo.

BUDAPEST 03/03/2025 Professor Henry Jones, Indiana Jones' father, is kidnapped by the Nazis, and the archaeologist embarks on a dangerous mission to save him and also protect the Holy Grail. Yes, I would call this perfume Holy Grail. Wild, mysterious, creamy and powdery. The opening is filled with coffee, metallic notes and bay leaf, the bay leaf is that of Zoologist T-Rex, which lends the perfume a "Jungle" character. All of this is amalgamated in Orris with chocolate that makes the perfume creamy. Seductive, it smells expensive, it smells like an indie niche and it sounds very original. It charges a lot but delivers what it charges, just like the entire Animals line. One of the best launches of the year. If you need samples, contact me in the private message on Fragrantica. If you’ve smelled Chanel Coromandel, you’ve smelled this. The problem is many haven’t. All in all, Opal is a nice fragrance. It smells a bit old money but I like old money. Powdery with a cocoa like scent. But when you factor the price, not worth it. You could buy 3 bottles of Chanel coromandel (which is a great fragrance btw).

So I finally put Opal by Boadicea the Victorious side by side with Dark Rebel by John Varvatos — and honestly... they live in the same scent universe, but they wear very differently. Both sit on that dark, nighttime axis — spice, leather, woods; that rebellious, after-hours energy. If you’re familiar with Dark Rebel’s boozy rum, smoky leather, and gritty bar-lounge vibe; Opal feels like the luxury extrait interpretation of that DNA. Where they separate: Opal — smoother, richer, more polished. The coffee and spices feel refined, almost silky, with a suede/orris elegance that gives it a dressed-up, tailored-coat presence. Performance is beastly. Dark Rebel — darker, smokier, more rugged. You get that signature rum accord, raw leather, and a dirtier edge that makes it feel rebellious and underground. Best way I can describe it: Dark Rebel = dimly lit whiskey bar. Leather jacket, bar/night drive energy Opal = same bar renovated in marble & velvet. Upscale evening, tailored coat, niche energy Similarity is definitely there, but redundancy depends on your collection. If you want the elevated, niche luxury version of that dark coffee-leather profile; Opal delivers.

Some perfumes aim to captivate; others, to assert themselves. Opal does neither — and that is precisely why it stands out. It presents itself as a translucent light, smooth and unobtrusive, as though its scent emerged naturally from the wearer rather than being applied. There is no single dominant note, and that is not a flaw — it is its strength. Opal feels as though it wasn’t composed, but rather born of skin, memory, and quiet presence. Inherently pleasant, it lingers gently, without insisting. It’s neither too sweet, nor too dry, woody, or floral — just perfectly balanced. A harmonious presence that doesn’t demand attention but invites connection with the moment. It may not be a fragrance chosen to impress, but it is certainly one that many would wish as their natural aura. And that is a much rarer achievement than it seems.

Received a sample and that metallic note sends me to the grave every time like why would i wanna smell like this I swear i be wanting to like these weird scents but i just cant, I never in my life tried to scrape a scent off my hand so fast. Every nose is different and this, I never wanna smell again in my life 1 year later i still had the sample so i decided to spray it and OMG my nose was not readily trained a year ago because now I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS SOOOO MUCH I am shocked and in aw of how good this is Im so embarrassed from how I discredited it last year, my apologies to BOADICEA because this is a 10/10

My friend let me smell her wrist and said this is the new Boadicea, rose and incense. Smelt beautiful on her! I sprayed it on myself, oh boy, hated it more and more, just too much, too intense, was nothing like rose and incense! Definitely unique and quality is impeccable but too strong for me, I honestly couldn't wear it. I appreciate the metallic amber rose composition, and such a concoction is very expected from the brand however, personally it is not for me.

It reminds me of an old vintage powder tin made of metal. The fragrance is incredibly delicate, soft and deeply feminine. There is no overwhelming sweetness or heaviness here. Instead, it plays beautifully on the skin with subtle powdery nuances, creating a feeling of timeless retro elegance. There is something comforting and intimate about the scent, almost like stepping into an old-fashioned boudoir. I truly loved it.

So glad I ge e this a second chance. The opening at first spray is challenging to like. Is metallic/lipstick like, but the dry down on this is AMAZING. Creamy, buttery goodness and incredibly addictive!

Going to keep it short: Nishane Nefs + Byron Parfums Black Dragon, but nerfed in projection, smoother, more rounded.

A blend of coffee, pepper, and citrus is ill-matched with the scent of bad leather.
