The King

I have Plum Japonais and Plum Harajuku (I've modified it to get darker and longer lasting and now it's way more plummy than PJ). This one beats both of them. Compared to PJ, this is richer, smoother, darker, better blended and longer lasting. It doesn't become the shell of itself like PJ does after few hours. PJ has more obvious plum, but also more "industrial" opening. The King puts spice in overdrive in opening (unpleasant only if you try to smell really up close - otherwise it's lovely) and it dies down after 15-30 minutes (still very prominent and now pleasant even really up close). PJ is dense while The King is more airy. The King has a strong smoky/incense note in first 2 hours that I don't prefer. After 2-3 hours PJ loses its clarity and intensity while The King still stands as a complete scent - actually better than starting stages - spiciness goes to background, smokiness mostly goes away, becomes plummy tobacco smoothed out by vanilla. Geranium gives The King a freshness edge that isn't in PJ. This goes on leather jacket and black jeans or on a dark suit. This screams sexy badass, but in the most non-needy way possible. More versatile than PJ. Could be worn casually because it's less dense and sweet than PJ. If the girl is coming to you and you're going to be up close right away, PJ is better option. If you're out on a date, or going out, or being your awesome self - definitely dressed sharp - use The King. The King does not tolerate dressing down. I've completed my plum collection and can't be more happy with my purchase. I had to have patience and luck to get this discontinued gem, but it was worth it - best and most expensive blind buy I did so far. 10/10 EDIT: Unpleasant spiciness in opening doesn't exist when it's colder weather. This perfume really suffered the same fate as PJ because it lacked hype. This is way more wearable than PJ because it's not so obvious fruity dense plum. I sprayed it every day just for myself since I got it few weeks ago.

After all this time I got my hands on a decant of Tom Ford Plum Japonais. To my dismay, it was absolutely phenomenal. I knew the absurd prices that even partials command these days, but I knew I had to have this scent in some form. Thus began my search for the perfect substitute, which started (and ended) with The King from Boadicea. In the air, it’s tough to distinguish from Plum Japonais. You get the same plum and orientals that made PJ so outstanding. Nose to the skin, it’s definitely it’s own fragrance. The tobacco really stands out here. Picture a smokier, less-woody PJ that retains it’s sweet notes longer into the dry down. I have a single spray on my wrist from 16 hours ago, and I can still pick out that honey-plum note. If you have been in love with that discontinued TF but can’t source a fb, then The King fills that itch greatly and delivers with quality. On my first time wearing it out I received multiple compliments. If this is what you have been seeking, then The King is blind buy safe in spite of the tag. Between paying $450 for a 50ml of Plum Japonais and getting this, I for sure made the smarter choice. I recommend trying out this gem!

A more natural and sophisticated take on Plum Japonais, with tobacco taking center stage. The plum note is not as sweet and more understated, unlike the overly syrupy notes found in Plum Japonais. The King combines tobacco and incense to evoke the aroma of billowing shisha smoke. Eventually, the scent becomes smoky and leathery, revealing a wonderful hint of castoreum that enhances its bold virile persona. It feels like a cross of Plum Japonais and Tobacco Oud Intense, though sadly, it seems this one's been discontinued also.

Plum dominates the initial spray. Along with cinnamon, the perfume opens quite sweet. Leather and incense are also quite prominent, making it a sweet, leathery and smokey scent that is quite suitable for fall and winter.

I absolutely despise Boadicea as a brand. BUT this thing is WOW! One of the sexiest creations i have tried. Very keen to get a full bottle, unfortunately it looks like everything is gone.

Interesting powdery Oriental gourmand scent that has an air of familiarity to it but is nevertheless a very pleasant wear. The sweet spicy scent opens with notes of plum, rum, saffron, cinnamon, cardamom and saffron. The heart is immortelle, rose and geranium. The perfume settles on a musky powdery bed of amber, tobacco, vanilla, patchouli and synthetic musk with slight hints of incense, labdanum, and oakmoss. The masculine leaning scent has strong projection and longevity. Something in this scent reminds me of my travels in Egypt. It is indeed a bit regal. Enjoy!

This fragrance is sweet, dark and well blended if I were to pick any note then those would it be plump and leather. Perfect for dates or formal events. Longevity is good more than 7h with 4 to 6 sprays, unisex and easy to like but not a room filler. Super versatile although not for summer days but that rule apply to most fragrances in this genre / orientals. Would I buy it again? Yes

So; bold Brand. Bold name. Does it have the Game? First spray - eeehhhhh, I'm not really 'wanting to love this for what it is' but there is just a drift and whiff of sweetness in there that saves it just to stop me from swiftly turning my nose away and sending this to the gutter score bin. But there's a lot going on: spice and smoke. The tobacco appeared to rise straight to the top on this 1st testing of mine and it's not the Sweet-roll blonde addictive sort; it's a grown-up one. Not a full-on industrial chimney-soot blaster but it's definitely there to make its presence known. Then suddenly, the cigar smoke parts and the stone-fruit sweetness is allowed to bubble up and bloom. It's an opulent, rich sweetness with depth, prune-like and is very nice when it does peak and waft. This is still much less leathery and smokey than how Hero turned out on me in the initial 30 minutes, so that has the Hero beaten right there for me then. It settles down, the sweetness starts to take the reins but now in a full on regal tussle for the crown of your nose with the cigar ashes. It's a very interesting and intriguing scent. Very opulent and olde Gentleman's lounge. It's not the straight-up sweet prune nectar resting on deep raw and sweet tobacco rolls I was hoping for but once the initial cigar blast calms down it is a real treat for the nose with it's rich fruit/ash and gentle spice combo all going on. A tiny part of the ambery vanilla helps to start glue this opening to the breaking middle of the scent. I always prefer sweeter and would have wanted much more of that prune to show up in my face at the start to comfortably award it an 8/10 but there's definitely that regal richness here when the warming smooth spices, prune and ash cosset your nose in harmony (smelling from a little afar from your hands.) Interesting indeed - and unlike Hero, I will test this out more. My rating: 7/10.

opening smells like a vintage insanely expensive wine that sits on a regal chamber. for few good hours the opening will fight the drydown looping which one is taking the front. the drydown is smoky ambery a bit musky and just a bit of sweetness that i can feel it as a combination of plum and vanilla. so as i said the opening teleports me in a regal big vintage room with king sitting at the table and partying with wine. The drydown has teleported me because of its darker side to the scene in Lord of The Rings when king Denethor was eating while Pippin was singing and Faramir was fighting

A pretty good twin of Tom Ford Plum Japonais. If I were to choose one over the other it would be Plum Japonais, which does a bit of a better job of highlighting the plum note in my opinion. You can see that in the Fragrantica page's accord stack, where the 'fruity' accord in Plum Japonais is closer to the top of the stack. Maybe the plum blossom note contributes to that. More prominent. It seems The King's plum note is blended in with the cinnamon, cloves, and rum. I just like the blend and relative emphasis of notes a bit more in Plum Japonais.

The King smells like the inside of an old cedar cigar box, specifically one that stored Nicaraguan cigars like Plasencia or Joyo which have a plum note. The opening is a spice bomb that will braid your nose hairs, but the dry down catches you off guard with the spice settling into the background and the plum/tobacco taking its place. While I appreciate the high quality, complexity, and transformative quality of this scent, I think you have to really like plum to enjoy this.

Wowww this is nothing like new haarlem; it is it's own thing. I really like this one. It starts off with a sweet candied aspect of plum wine and noticable tobacco during the mid and drydown. I have a sample and will need to test more but this I would get a full bottle of for sure.

Very nice plum scent, especially the dry down, becomes smooth tart like. Great for winter, nice quality and longevity

Plum Jap with Tobacco oud intense. This is arguably best winter frag BTV has produced a legit 10/10
