Douleur!2

Really enjoyed this fragrance. So different. Green cucumber, metallic accord, fresh oysters with a subduing fruit sweet note. Got melons and mangoes the ones with nice lactone notes. Love it!

Stridently bold like the old Douleur! but somewhat tamed and more balanced overall. A nice woody, creaky, slightly smoky note enriches the colorful, fairground tableau. Great fragrance art!

I've been meaning to revisit my sample of this one. Fragrantica finally adding it seems like a great excuse to try it out again. It starts out with a soapy artificial melon. It's not teeny bop sugary but it is sweet and in your face. It's meant to be noticed and turn heads as you walk by. That sweetness is balanced out by by a cold green plastic smell. Like the top notes of Room 237 but much more palatable. I imagine this is what walking into the Fey woods would smell like. Sweet and temptingly juicy, with a cold warning underneath if you're smart enough to look for it. The melon makes it lean more feminine than masculine but it's strangeness keeps it firmly in the unisex category. This is not something you wear to smell womanly and elegant or flirty and boppy. It being so sweet also makes it feel like it should be for a more younger crowd, still out there tagging walls rolling flavored blunts and drinking watermelon four lokos. Our maybe an art student who's looking to question what art is. It projects well now, at the start of winter. I would worry about it being cloying in the heat but I won't find that out for a few months. lasts all day on my skin. This fragrance is an offensive band shirt. It's a pop-art graphic t-shirt. It's a 12 foot graffiti mural that you swear wasn't there yesterday on your walk to work. It's going to be noticed and provoke. Some will love it, some will hate it, and you'll probably start an argument if you stand between those people. I enjoy it for the experience but I don't love it and I can't imagine any situation where I could possibly wear this. I might get a decant though just so I can smell it next time it creeps into my head about how weird this is.

bloody bubblegum on swollen gums. nobuyoshi araki's 'double suicide.' lost tooth caught in falciform fairy floss. from the vial, douleur!2 is cold and salty, unable to escape similarities to etat libre d'orange's infamous secretions magnifiques; but on warm skin, sweet roses bloom on blood-soaked sugar. in certain rosy compositions, i often detect jarring notes of sweetened blood, thanks to rose oxide: metallic and shiny, it's easy to register the scent as a blood accord—whether or not that's a good thing is far from objective! in douleur!2, this heady result from rose oxide is taken full advantage of, teased out and framed in sugar and seaweed, resulting in a bawdy dream of ero guro cotton candy. while sweet, metallic bubblegum dominates, the combination of warm resins with melon and cucumber creates an alluring but menacing contrast, like a mirage of a waterfall in a desert, all as mint and camphor at the top add onto the coolness. the watery notes are enveloped by a briny base of salt, but the surrounding facets make it much better than sniffing real molluscs in the flesh. douleur!2 is dissonant, yet its electric pink heart pumps with enough depth to make the stainless steel pots and pans clanking together sound like an avant-garde symphony. songs for douleur!2: on the run by all the madmen, automation by the dadacomputer, crack rock by ayesha erotica, new breath by kap bambino.

Given the dearth of reviews for this fragrance, I feel compelled to put in my two cents. Douleur!2 opens with an aquatic and ozonic blast of melon and cucumber, accompanied by a minty, camphorous accord. Following soon after are the metallic rose oxide and confectioner's sugar, toned down from the original and balanced by the nose-searing camphor. All of this is underpinned by a resinous animalic base that, stripped of the top- and mid-notes, makes for a pleasant and decidedly less challenging drydown. Happily, I do not pick up on any oyster accord. Rather than a plate of shellfish, the gustatory analogy that springs to mind is Marukawa Bear gum, accompanied by a mint julep with less Bourbon and more Gewurztraminer. Like that food and drink pairing, Douleur!2 is unabashedly avant-garde, terribly impractical, and bemusingly novel. Is this wearable? More than the original, but the answer is still "absolutely not" if you have any regard for the welfare of those around you. I respect the craft here, and sincerely hope Mr. Gardoni perseveres with a third, fourth, or however many iterations it takes to arrive at a fragrance that realizes the potential of this metallic, uncompromising rose. Meanwhile, I'm happy to suffer through the pain.

ok, so Douleur!2 is an aquatic, minimalist, overtly synthetic scent, a genre much hated (perhaps overly so) by serious perfume fans because it’s simple and can be done very cheaply. But, it’s by Gardoni, one of the most cerebral and ambitious perfumers around. so, I have to wonder what he’s up to. right off the bat you get a splash of melon and a generous helping of cucumber skin. normal swimming-pool stuff. but then, within seconds, there’s a dry, abstract, firm aromachemical note I don’t recognize. off-white, slightly salty, sharply “perfumey”. it makes me think of summer sidewalks and blinding sun. and within minutes (unlike every other aquatic scent I’ve encounrered) Douleur!2 DEVELOPS, into a cooling, ghostly mint-and-rose combo. I think I like minty rose; it’s unexpectedly poignant whenever I encounter it. after about another half hour we’re back to the “sun” note. but now underneath we have some darker peppery notes and remnants of rosiness, making a pleasant buzzing hum at the skin. Lasts all day. a little harsh but genuinely interesting and even pretty; might be nice on a day too hot to wear anything else.

Here I am, getting out of my comfort zone, trying out more challenging compositions of fragrances. If I can sum up this scent with words, it would be like this: Salted raw oysters slighty seared over resins on a bed of sweet melon and cucumber with a sprinkle of mint, served in a wet rose infused metal dish. This fragrance is potent, a form of art, where the perfumer had no inhibitions, and he was not trying to please the masses, but solely to create his art form for some of us to appreciate it. This sample was given to me by Mr Wade Wheeler, whom I introduced to Lucky Scent, and now he's going crazy ordering all sorts of samples blind buying it for the sake of finding something he loves. It is exciting when we get them. We don't know what's inside. We haven't done any research about it, just test them, and I love to post reviews.

Wow I don't know how to feel about this. Never tried a perfume with camphor before but the internet says it's kind of menthol-y/mothbally. I'm definitely getting that. I'm getting a bit of fresh cucumber, a bit of salty umami, nothing super animalic. I think I'd like this better without the camphor. Otherwise decent.

Extremely nauseating. Strong, contaminated other samples on arrival. Does smell of metal and ozone. Also smells exactly like the worst scent I've ever smelled so far, which was a rotten fermented cucumber that a girl whose drawer we discovered it in ashamedly admitted to have used as a d*ldo a month ago. Also smells very mothball-y for some reason, in a way Poison by Dior does. If you told me this contained cadaverine, I'd agree. There is something organically repulsive in this, and I really, really, really hate it. Sample binned.

Nauseating chemical stench. As subtle as a sledgehammer. It's like a mint boiled sweet with pool chemicals and some sort of metallic blood type effect. Absolutely horrible. I haven't smelled a scent from this house that didn't piss me off immediately, but this one is particularly bad.

One of the most foul things I’ve ever smelled. I can’t imagine wearing this anywhere because it’s so offensive. All I smell is burning plastic. Had to throw the sample out because its tainting everything it touches.

I don't usually review perfumes but my experience of Douleur 2 is quite different from that described by the other reviewers, and I just wanted to put my take out there for balance. I find this eminently wearable. Like other Bogue perfumes, it's v strong (I think it's an extrait?) . 1 spray from my sample lasts me the day, and provides sufficient sillage. I can imagine that overspraying would turn this into a monster. Dosed appropriately, though, this is a quirky yet easy-to-wear iteration of the first Douleur, with a beautiful mint-camphor note up top, a cooler & less sweet, yet still a bit bubble-gum-ish, rose oxide in the middle, and a sultry base that shares some of the solar elements of I love YY. You still do have to like rose oxide to enjoy this, I guess, but it's much less dominant than in Douleur (which I also enjoy and find easy to wear in cooler weather). My partner, who's not keen on avant garde fragrance, has commented positively and spntaneously on this when I've been wearing it. I love to see niche/avant-garde scents that avoid the bbq/tar/smoke cliches, and this certainly does that.

Definitely the most surprising thing I've smelled lately. On a creative level, it's a marvel. A synthetic scent, yes, of course; it's a scent of the future, and noses expecting a perfume with a classic structure and familiar notes will be in for a shock here. These are new notes, very metallic and fruity. I enjoy well-crafted camphor, and for me, it's perfect here. Other notes drag it toward a watery, lily-like floral balm. It's like putting on a tight-fitting metal suit that feels cold, but is actually the perfect temperature.

Just like the packaging, Douleur!2 is so much fun & probably one of the few fragrances that kept me sniffing my arms after putting it on. Came in totally blind without any ideas of the notes, Douleur!2 started off quite strong, with the green metallic combo, but a few minutes later, it smells exactly like the juiciest, ripest mango and it stays like that on the skin. A total love from me and so glad I was able to get my hands on a bottle!

i thought i'd like this scent and i'm so happy i was right. it smells like if a Lush opened in the afterlife and you were shopping there as a hologram. weird, soapy, fruity, cold. if this is for you, it's for you. song: seashell - mom

This is douleur 1 but perfected! I enjoy it. A fragrance that's not to be taken seriously but fun and experimental. Check out my review on the original douleur. IG: eatandsmellgood

The camphor is only in the opening. Then, aquatic, metallic, sweet melon. 3/10
