Polish Potatoes

Polish Potatoes smells exactly as it's name suggests. It is very rare I find, to have a perfume that actually delivers on it's promises. Perfumes are often like politicians; a load of hot air with little to no actual substance. But not here. Polish Potatoes opens with dirt. Pure, earthy, mineral rich dirt. Wow. Perfume anarchy. Polish Potatoes does whatever it wants, without anyone's permission. It will present a version of perfume that will openly challenge your nose to a fight to the death. It makes the smell of damp soil theatrical, wholesome, classy and fantastic. Earthy vegetables also play a role in this beautifully bizarre scent profile, the ensemble of them gives an essence of cold Polish vegetable soup. There are some elegant florals interlaced in the middle, and the base contains even more soil tones, along with some resinous aspects. I fucking love it. It is overpriced however. The bottle contains such a miniscule amount, but you don't need a lot of sprays for this perfume to become your skin's best buddy. Over the £100 mark for such a small bottle takes the piss a bit. But, look at the company this scent belongs to; high-end, up it's own arse "fashion". Yuk. Edit: Bohoboco have to be the most unprofessional perfume seller that I've ever dealt with, in my long time on this earth. I purchased a sample first, which arrived easily. However, if you live in England and want to buy a full size, be prepared to pay an extortionate import fee. I mentioned this to Bohoboco, stating that they should warn their overseas customers about the fee that is added on, as you are not made aware of it at any point, until DHL calls you up and demands it to be paid. Their answer took a long time to come back to me, and it was basically "this isn't our problem" in a more palatable collection of words. Fuck them, fuck their perfumes and fuck them again. I will NEVER buy anything else from them ever again. I should have known how cunty they would be, by their over-inflated "high fashion" ego. The perfume: 9/10. It loses a point for being a very small volume. The company who make the perfume: -1000/10. CUNTS.

Polish Potatoes is such a powerfully evocative fragrance! While also performing very well and being quite wearable. Why, you might just have a masterpiece on your hands, Mr. Lach. To me, this scent perfectly encapsulates autumn with its fresher, cooler air, just-planted winter wheat sprouting its first leaves, evergreen pine trees and the return of leather boots to daily rotation. The atmospheric messiness of yard work in the rain rewarded with the occasional rose, heliotrope or carnation still in bloom as well as root vegetables aplenty. The satisfying heaps of beetroots and potatoes filling the cool, humid air of your root cellar with their slightly metallic, a little mossy, sweet-ish, grounding promise. Autumn with its cold, fragrant wind, carrying news of moist, fallen leaves slowly becoming fresh earth in the forest, of fields cooling deep beneath their golden stubble, ploughed muck or young seedlings. News of stacked firewood, distant chimney smoke and coming winter. It turns out the Czech countryside childhood experience doesn't differ much from the Polish one - as far as its olfactive perception goes, that is - because I was stunned by the photorealism of this fluid, ever-changing creation. A beautiful, effortlessly wearable work of art and a new favourite. It lasts well into the eighth hour until becoming a skin scent and then lasting some more. Perfectly unisex. Bravo! I cannot wait for September to wear Polish Potatoes in their natural habitat!

On first spray there is virtually no hint of potato. The scent is sweeter than expected - opening to a deep patchouli and vanilla. It is also much more floral than I expected, the heliotrope following behind and creating a powdery trail. After a few minutes on the skin, the underlying earthiness of the fragrance develops, with a "wet" soil note combining with the heliotrope, I start to think of a sweet garden. A few hours later the scent now smells like "expensive earth." If someone were to build a Macys fragrance counter in the middle of a farm - the salespeople going back and forth between spraying floral testers and harvesting vegetables - this would be the result. (A more appealing smell than it sounds!) Almost 6 hours later and the scent still was going strong. twojtrener was not lying when saying this perfume is incredibly strong. If you want a scent that lingers, this is one. The pine and leather notes rise to the top after some time. Its strangely cooling and crisp, feels like breathing in a flower field in a damp forest. The oud is also much more prominent, after some time. This frangrance is gearing up to be a personal favorite of mine, but does come across quite strong. I'd probably spray it on a few hours before going out.

Please don't be too off put by the name. I loved this immediately. My theory is that Bohoboco scents are intentionally titled to throw you off your game a little bit. An expectation is created, only to leave you surprised when another entirely different experience happens. The potato aspect is there, don't get me wrong, it's just not the whole story. More like a single snapshot inside of a larger picture. I like to think of this more as : "Night Market 4am". Lots going on here. The idea of getting back to the roots of a dirty patchouli by actually marrying a thoughtfully complex soil accord to it is genius. So many patchouli's come off as chocolatey when trying to go down the dark path. Or high-zing hippie madness when floralized. This goes a different route, literally grounding it, bringing it down to earth, real earth, where you realized it always belonged. The Benz-amber-heliotrope trio make the whole thing more approachable and rounded, while the oud butches it up a notch in the drydown. Somehow I missed the pine moment entirely. The sillage will not disappoint those intrepid souls among you. Skin scent wearers be warned, this is a bonafide powerhouse.

A sharp, dark and dry leather/oud/amber scent, triangulating somewhere between LADDM, Puredistance M and Laudano Nero (with all the strength and persistence of the latter). The marketing is fun on this one, but also distracting. If I cross my eyes just right I can imagine I’m getting beetroots from the earthy interplay of labdanum, oud and patchouli, but there aren’t any elements here we haven’t smelled before and in similar combinations - we just have to remember that fragrance notes are pure marketing, sometimes emphatically unrelated to the actual ingredients. In terms of quality though, this is way up there. There’s a killer deal to be had if you find it on discount. Amouage could release this with some New Age-y, random Magnetic Poetry tile for a name – let’s say, Awakening – and charge a multiple of the price to great acclaim. At least then it would be better targeted to Saudi princes and American nepo hippy girls rather than your babcia.

This is simply a divinely realising scent that casts a spell on me, I disliked it at first and now I adore it for winter. It's a powerful blast, two sprays will linger to my clothes all day, and will echo on my skin even the following day after I showered. I can smell it from my jumpers days after I wore them, it leaves this gentle memory of itself in my wardrobe, this perfume truly permeates my late autumn and winter days. I love its quirkiness and thanks to its surprise element, it became my signature scent for the season. Truly most magical earthy aroma, it feels like I am myself earthed in my grandma's cellar, transported to another, magical wonderland. The profile is stunning: cold, damp potatoes, covered in soil, dancing with notes of patchouli, vanilla and cloves. There's a dazzling sweetness in there, but nothing like you've smelled before.

The fact that a plurality has reviewed Polish Potatoes as having moderate sillage tends to make me fully believe the oft-repeated assertion that many Fragrantica reviewers are larping and haven’t actually tried scents they enthusiastically rate and review. Polish Potatoes has superlative longevity, and it imposes itself in any space. It is one of the best-performing niches I have ever encountered. Otherwise, if you appreciate earthiness and patchouli, it’s a stunning scent that works particularly well as a signature for folks working in creative professions, where artful personal quirks are appreciated. This would be hard to pull off at a corporate job, I suspect. Finally, imo, the other major banger from Bohoboco is Dark Vinyl Musk.

I am truly impressed and surprised by this perfume. It was the last one I tried from the discovery set (thank you for including the 2 new scents, BOHOBOCO ☺️). I expected more earthiness and less wearability. Is much sweeter than one would think, and slowly turns into a warm ambery, pleasant fragrance, after an earthy opening which to my nose mostly comes from the beetroot note. Other notes I can definitely identify are clove, leather, benzoin and vanilla. Oh, and pine, thanks to which this kind of reminds me of Fahrenheit for a split second. I do love this 🥰

I smelled this at Chopin airport yesterday, I didnt have any expectations and it was more for the fun of it. I was literally MINDBLOWN .... Its difficult to describe it, its very earthy mossy patchouli. Imagine a plate with sweet baby beetroot that was just removed from damp soil and freshly washed, u add some moss to it, roses, patchouli, vanilla, amber. It has amazing sillage and projection, and it is so original in the best way possible. Ill be returning back from travels in a couple of days and ill be damned if I dont get a bottle. wow just wow

For a few future reviewers, Polish like the country not polish like nail polish 😂 this fragrance reminds me of the garden but in a very nice wearable way. Beautiful dry down of amber and soft soil. Leans more masculine and the potato is subtle but present. Gorgeous scent. Excited to see what they do next after the amazing mango yuzu gasoline and plum spraypaint. I like this house.

I gatekeep the hell out of this house from my friends. My favorite house and my favorite fragrance from said house. 9.7/10

So so cozy, an earthy and chocolatey patchouli scent. Supported by warm balsamic elements. For some reason looking at the name and the liquid color, I felt like I was about to experience that moment when you hold earth covered potatoes under running water to clean them, but it's absolutely not that. First of all, this is a very warm earthy scent and like I said, patchouli is the star player. Alongside that I'm getting strong labdanum/leather, resins, incense and sweet warm spices. There's also a powdery accord that gives a soft and cuddly feel. This is my favorite kind of patchouli scent: bold, rich, smoky, earthy, cozy and leather-backed. As for the potato, there's not even raw potato in the composition for me. To reassess, I focused especially on the first 10 seconds. Sometimes in those first seconds certain notes can transition super fast, but even there my pick went towards sweet patchouli. I got a bit of a rooty feel but it ended quickly. In short; too sweet and powdery for a potato scent. Still nice though. Tag(s): chocolatey patchouli, earthy, sweet, balsamic, cozy, leathery

Since nobody in the comments is actually sharing their experience with the fragrance I'll chime in. It does smell like potatoes. More precisely - my grandma's underground cellar where she and a couple of other wonderful elderly ladies kept their veggies. Indeed there seems to be a very prominent damp soil note. It's fleeting, but it's there. And at some point you come to terms with the fact that the potatoes in question are actually on the verge of rotting because of disctinctive amber base and patchouli. It's a wonderful nostalgic scent for me. Not sure if it's wearable due to to the almost nauseating sweetness of decay or rather decomposition. But it paints quite a picture.

Akin to the journey of Byredo 1996 Inez & Vinoodh- down to the circular “dusty” aspects of Amber and benzoin. Only this is much more wearable as an earthier more grounded scent- maybe thanks to the beetroot and patchouli. It’s more welcoming than Byredo’s brutalist take. The dry dust aspect of actual potatoes when they’ve been in your hands is SO photorealistic- you almost laugh. It’s such a familiar scent to so many people who grew up (or continue) to cook with potatoes. I wouldn’t classify this as a vegetal or gourmand scent by any means- it’s a hardcore Amber/resin in their best ways without being incense or ‘chouli-bombs.

I gave the tester to my husband, as this perfume is just too masculine for me. But I do appreciate the fragrance for it's incredible journey. I definitely get that earthy beetroot, potato smell...so photorealistic. I close my eyes and I imagine I'm in somebody's garden picking beets and potatoes in the rain. No seriously that's exactly what it smells like. I'm going to have to try something different from this fragrance house that's more towards the notes I like. I was thinking about coffee, white flowers.

it really does smell like potatoes, its extremely realistic to the point where each time you smell it you can really picture a wet soil vegetable patch. not so sure what the reaction of others would be when smelling this on a person, but its a very artistic beautiful scent experience, not really a "daily wear" scent, more like an art piece you take the time to enjoy and immerse yourself in the intended scenario of the fragrance.

expected this to be a meme-y potato scent but was met with something actually quite complex and extremely wearable. it's too masculine for my personal taste, but still a very well made scent! really does smell like a bustling night market at 4am. would be a great gift for a bf or if you just like masculine scents in general! amazinggggggg longevity and projection too!! overall rating: 🩷🩷🩷💔🖤 3.5/5

I really was shocked. My reaction to this and what people are saying is totally different. The middle note is earthy, dry grass. Floral throughout. Hard to smell potatoes until it dies down. Last is skin scent. The initial scent is surprising like a sporty youthful clean blast almost like 1990s CK, guess, or adidas. Every note is subtle to me. No beetroot at all. No warm vanilla scent at all. I disagree with the notes list. Four hour longevity because the final is skin note. A better name would be “frozen yam harvest.” Did I get a fake from the salesperson?

This should never be a blind buy. I love bohoboco, I typically enjoy their perfumes, but Polish Potatoes is not a perfume I could ever wear. On me it gives a damp, moldy cellar. I appreciate the creativity, but I’m gonna admire from a distance with my Magic Mushrooms and Wet Cherry Liquor.
