Vanilla Black Pepper

Now this one had me fooled at first - The opening is a full-on PEPPER punch! No prisoners, no preamble, just “Hello, I’m here to wake your sinuses!!.” 2 minutes in and the vanilla is also showing up, but it is still feeling pretty chilly and linear. BUT ... and here's the thing... give it about 30 minutes and... just 'Wow!' The pepper chills out, the whole thing warms up, and it softens into this warm, woody, sensual vanilla that’s surprisingly elegant and really very addictive. Quiet, yes — but in that classy, low-key “come closer” way... Honestly, I didn’t expect much from it at the outset, but hey, here we are... yet another Bohoboco that’s stealthily working its way into my heart (and probably my full-bottle list).

This is a very pretty light vanilla, combined with a luscious pepper that blends into the vanilla perfectly, though vanilla is the star, the pepper certainly is deep enough where it smells unique and luxe. I no longer on ED by Diptyque but did remember I enjoyed it but after some gave it to a friend who loved it as I wasn’t wearing it much anymore and she was going to give me something of hers she didn’t like that I wanted. I have since then read it being compared in certain vanilla reviews and never at the time thought of it as a vanilla perfume, just one I liked it doesn’t surprise me since I love vanilla frags). It does smell similar though, but the few Diptyque frags I own have above average longevity, and same with their projection. I don’t find ED as unique as this, and I’m not sure how much a current bottle of ED is but would likely think that despite inflation, it can be purchased for a reasonable price. It doesn’t have the pepper this one has but if that note was barely there, I’d say save your money and get ED as the vanillas seem very close, not overly sweet, but not green. I think ED leans closer to feminine side, but this one is definitely unisex, could smell great on a man or a woman. I’m not sure how much a fb of this cost, I think around $180, maybe less. That being said I don’t see this being FB worthy for me, unless was priced closer to $90-$110 range as I don’t think it’s worth spending a lot on any frag if it’s gonna fade away quickly. The Carmel sea salt one I applied last night was weak in projection and disappeared within the hour. So far this one seems to last longer, but don’t love that is wears so close to the skin, just as caramel sea salt. If it lasted long enough Id reconsider a FB, but for now, it’ll be In my maybe pile. It isn’t offensive, but I don’t like the weak projection. I have to smell my wrist to see if it still has a pulse, it’s beating, but just barely. For some that don’t like overpowering, this would be a great scent to own, I just prefer most of my frags to stay with me and come out to play for a bit, not leave before the party has even started, but that’s just me.

Bohoboco Vanilla Black Pepper does not try to be complicated and that is exactly why it works so well. It opens warm, spicy and slightly sharp, with black pepper immediately taking the main role. This is not a cold, fresh pepper; it feels older, darker and more elegant, like a spice note that knows exactly why it is there. The vanilla comes in gradually and plays the best supporting actress. It is soft, smooth and warm, but never turns the fragrance into a basic sweet vanilla scent. Orange blossom, rosebay, heliotrope, rose, resins, cedarwood and white musk are also there, but they mostly work in the background, making everything feel more polished and well blended. Nothing feels random and nothing is fighting for attention. The development is very good. In the beginning, it leans more spicy and slightly masculine, but as it dries down, the vanilla, musk and soft floral touches make it smoother, warmer and more unisex. That is exactly what makes it interesting. It has both a soft and masculine feeling at the same time, so it may not work for absolutely everyone, but for me that balance is the whole point. Performance is also solid. It lasts well, sillage is noticeable without being too loud and the scent stays present throughout the day. It does not scream, but it definitely has aura. For me, this is a very safe blind unisex buy. It is simple, yes, but it smells expensive, well blended and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish.

I was pleasantly surprised by this scent. I thought the pepper would overpower the other notes but it's a mild and the fragrance is sweet. It's mostly a skin scent and after an hour it turns into a sweet vanilla and musk.

Omg I love this. I’m tired of overly sweet vanillas this is so simple and nice unisex vanilla. It’s a bright sweet dark mysterious original vanilla. Really good for autumn

My favorite scent from the brand. It's unique and versatile. I'd wear it to work and for going out. The bottle cap has unique velvet texture.

If only this lasted longer! I get about an hour before the black pepper subsides and I'm left with a very pleasant vanilla skin scent.

Wonderful! Love the smell. The pepper seems more prominent than the vanilla but this is a beautiful scent.

If you’re looking for an inoffensive vanilla fragrance, look no further. To my nose it’s mostly vanilla, but I can detect orange blossom very lightly mixed in with the black pepper. The opening notes stay consistent throughout wear time which lasts about 2-3 hours on my skin. Projection is nonexistent unless sprayed heavily (10-12 sprays). I don’t regret buying a fb, because I needed this type of scent for days I will be in close contact with others & I don’t want to choke them out by wearing any of my heavier fragrances. I do have to say I love the velvet cap. I keep my fragrances in their boxes, so dust isn’t an issue.

Sprays on light and non-offensive with a little bit of hope and that’s the best part. The vanilla is light and airy and the pepper smells weak similar to pre-ground table pepper. Vanilla and black pepper both have anti-anxiety and relaxation effects when inhaled which together could be very therapeutic, but this perfume misses on both marks making it quite underwhelming. If this was a crème brulée vanilla with freshly cracked pepper it would be amazeballs. After 30 minutes it becomes an extremely light, nose pressed to skin, incense scent. It is not a bad perfume, it just seems to be lacking.

One reviewer said that this smells like disinfectant and I can’t not smell it haha. Especially in the opening. After giving it 10 mins or so the pepper, vanilla and cedar become more prominent. A skin scent. Non-offensive. Totally unisex. Very Clean...Vanilla pine sol lol.

ISO E SUPER bomb. Initially at least. So disappointed, as I love black pepper and vanilla notes. Anyone got any black pepper vanilla perfume recommendations?

Not being able to enjoy a fragrance in itself is a crime Coming close to a dangerous point to copying or cloning another scent in my book is another crime It is very close to the original spice bomb Although it distanced itself being combined with florals and resins to an extent that makes it a little hard to pinpoint I believe it might be the worst from the house thus far and I have more to try which I’m not very enthusiastic about Stay away......sample first Do not blind buy

This has a distinct disinfectant scent mixed in with the vanilla. Had to scrub this one off.

🌶️ Mission: Find the pepper 👵 Grandma is standing by the stove and cooking chicken soup. “Run for the pepper, the drawer next to the sink!” – she shouts, waving the ladle like a general before a battle. I am ready. This is a simple mission. I go in, open the drawer. WOW. Light wood shines like in an IKEA furniture commercial. It smells of newness, cleanliness, as if someone had just taken this drawer out of the factory and poured ISO E Super over it for a “freshness” effect. Inside – a packet of vanilla. BEAUTIFUL vanilla. Coarsely ground, smelling like doughnuts from a bakery, wrapping like grandma’s blanket. Heliotrope adds powdery sweetness, like cookies covered with powdered sugar. But wait. What about the pepper? I rummage deeper. I move little jars, tins, something else. “Grandma, where is that pepper?!” – I shout. “AT THE BOTTOM!” – she answers. I take everything out. I find an old spoon, rubber bands, some key to an unknown lock. The vanilla wraps around me more and more. It is everywhere. In the air, on my fingers, in my nose. BUT THERE IS NO PEPPER. “Grandma, was it DEFINITELY here?!” – I ask in desperation. “Well I did put it there yesterday!” – she shouts, already impatient. No. It really isn’t here. For the first five minutes something was there – a sharp little grain that rolled under the liner. It gave hope. And then it disappeared, as if it had never been there. I come back to the kitchen with this beautiful vanilla in my hand. Grandma looks at me, sighs, turns off the burner under the soup. “So today there will be cheesecake,” – she says and smiles. Because the vanilla is wonderful, I smell like a fresh drawer full of sweet promises. Mission unsuccessful, but the kitchen smells like a bakery. I was so afraid to try this after the Wet Cherry Liquor testing fiasco. Fortunately, this one is alright, though not particularly exceptional. What I get is a slightly spicy, "clean" heliotrope-tinged vanilla, not sweet at all, and I'm not catching much of the florals. Dries down to reveal a musk base that still carries most of that vanilla. It is very nice and pleasant, but for the price point, it's not particularly potent, and it fades fast. I do kind of like this one, but it's so expensive for the quantity for something so seemingly fleeting. I'm seeing that some people think this one reminds them of Diptyqye Eau Duelle or Byredo Gypsy Water. I'm not getting that, as I have small bottles of both, and those last. This one is, well, "cleaner" than those, by that, I don't mean like disinfectant, but, just, I don't know, crisp, fresh and clear? It's not a dirty, boozy vanilla, nor is it a vanilla gourmand. Quite the opposite.

This perfume is linear and consistent, it smells fine even after a few hours from application. Vanilla is the dominating note, it's not overly sweet but not perfectly bitter either. The black pepper note is noticable, especially in the first 1-2 hours but it's not dominant. Some time later it almost disappears. Actually, the scent gets better in time - it becomes warmer, rounder and more natural. Great for vanilla enthusiasts who want "the real thing", not the synthetic vanilline baking sugar note. I think I might get it one fall, but I'll make sure to test it again. I guess that dry skin may not serve it well, but when applied on warm, nourished inside-elbow skin, it will smell just amazing! Bohobocco boutique is certainly worth visiting, not just for clothes:) Oh, and the velvet cap is cool:)

NOT SWEET but the vanilla is a prominent player, along with the pepper and a heavy dose of resins (frankincense and benzoin I gather), cedar is also prominent in base, and I believe the musk is more of a fixative. Pepper and resins can often go venturing into the varnish/turpentine arena, but that isnt happening here due to the rose/heliotrope middle and the gorgeous vanilla in the base. For those wanting a vanilla dominant fragrance without being forced into a gourmand, confectionery, candy or pastry direction, this is your ticket to paradise. The resins really hold everything together. Bohoboco is a fabulous brand and they have a considerable understanding of resins and how to use them effectively. I am also a big fan of their Olibinum & Gardenia offering.

This fragrance is a well-blended, nice fragrance. These days all new houses try to offer something loud and strong without harmony, this one is mild and balanced. It has also originality in the scent profile. What's interesting for me is that I only get the base notes, especially black pepper, vanilla, and cedar, even right after spraying. There is no real top note. The top and middle notes mentioned are really mixed with the three base notes. It has a nice minimalistic bottle as well. Overall It's a refined and interesting scent but you should like a mild, skin-scent type of fragrance. 7/10

I tested Black Tie yesterday because it is back in stock and was super underwhelmed by the simple cedar forward profile. Then I opened my new tester set from Bohoboco and tried VBP. This is what Celine would have been if it was good. Unisex, slightly peppery, woody vanilla with a touch of almond. I don’t smell orange blossom and rose directly but I think this is maybe what gives this a balanced sweetness in the undertones. An airy veil, mature vanilla but still light. So, so good. I am definitely getting a full bottle!

Really nice unisex vanilla. The vanilla is smooth and blends really nicely with the fresh spiciness and woodyness of it all. I get a decent amount of cedar and olibanum and nutmeg (listed notes on their website but not here for some reason) as well as the namesake notes of vanilla and black pepper. While I’m sure this fragrances uses synthetics, it doesn’t smell synthetic. The notes smell like their natural state. The spices in here are bright and spritely, not dark and heavy like a mulling spice.

The black pepper here is overpowering. The vanilla note is suffocated by the pepper. Fortunately, it gets better after a while, but don't expect a creamy vanilla to appear, it just gets vaguely sweet, and with a slight leathery aspect. I agree with previous reviewers that there is a chemical note that resembles a cleaning product. Sample it first. I think at some point it is similar to Black Vanilla Oud but it doesn't last long enough in that phase. Again, sample it first.

Normally I don’t like to leave short reviews but this is all iso e super and a light vanilla with a hint of black pepper. That’s really it. Same vanilla as in a lot of lower end Niche scents. And a LOT of iso e super. If this is 60-70% iso e I wouldn’t be shocked. Longevity is okay at 5-6 hours but it barely projects. Quickly can go anosmic. A 7/10. Way too much iso e super.

First time I smelled this I was like Omg so good... finally a different vanilla. The pepper is so good sweet but not heavy sweet very airy and addicting. Reminds me of van cleff vanilla not because smells like it but in the way that is not a gourmand vanilla!

It’s decent. A light and airy, vanillin, spicy, non offensive fragrance. To me, it’s reminiscent of Spice Bomb and Gram Crackers. I’m sure I’m not the only one! 😎 It’s a decent fragrance overall. 🫡

such a good cool weather fragrance. it’s exactly what it says it is, warm vanilla with a spicy peppery finish that’s not like your typical wintertime spiced amber gourmand vanilla

don’t expect anything unique or complex. after an hour or so it becomes a pleasant vanilla scent. that’s it.
