Relativamente Rosso

Day 76 - Of grandeur Listening to: Blackbird - Brand New Start Notes: I am beginning to think Bois 1920's Art Collection was made just for me. This is the second I purchased in the series (out of 5 and one is basically unavailable to me) and I am floored by the beauty it contains. This and Dolce di Giorno are 'eyes rolling into the back of your head' delicious...I don't know how they do it, but these are exquisitely sensual experiences in a bottle! Relativamente open with a deeply moving and surrealistic campfire/smoke note - I don't know how it's even possible to make a campfire sexy, but they did it! The campfire note (likely achieved with a modified olibanum accord) definitely contains a wild rose clashing against an ashy saccharine note - this actually lasts around an hour or two on my skin. The campfire slowly dies out and allows the rich and syrupy scent of immortelle combine with a creamy sandalwood and a chocolate or orris, amber, and musk. This phase lasts for five or six hours before a slight transition to a slightly drier and quieter patchouli and oak mixed with the velvety orris and vanilla...simply to die for! This, much like Dolce di Giorno, would be magic on a woman's skin! I don't know why there aren't more people wearing these fumes! If you'd like a 10 hour break from the monotony of life, pick up this magic potion and ride it out!

Relativamente Rosso feels to my nose like marron glacé gilded with rose damascones. "What, pray tell, are damascones?" you might ask. Damascones belong to a family of chemical compounds known as rose ketones, which also include damascenones and ionones. There is alpha, beta, and delta. I am not going to pretend to know exactly which, if any, are actually here, but I have a hunch. Damascones are known for being quite potent and vibrant, a glistening treble of wine, mids that are tobacco-like, with tints of apple, plum, blackcurrant, and shades of woods. Here, they are that delectable high frequency that give the illusion of a deep rose, where it may or may not even be truly present (but who knows, there may be a bit of rose absolute here, too). With that detail aside, what moors this is a lightly sugared immortelle, buttery, warm, and enveloping, a swirl and a swoop, an incense ambience in its heart, fueled by the oil of an ambergris accord (I opt not to deconstruct it). Its also worth noting that I detect something that reminds me of davana oil (a favorite material!), cognac-boozy and intoxicating. There was one point in the development that reminded me of the aroma of a glass of Sazerac. A parenthetical note: Japan's "Ghosts" just started playing as I write this, and it just seemed like a perfect accompaniment. This feels so layered, with no friction, nothing that "ouches" the nose (what a relief after some of the stonkers I've subjected myself to). The base is a sweetly incensed woods, still expressive hours in, haunting and somewhat moody. This is one I put in the "dazzler" category.

Pure sexuality in a bottle. Purchased a sample last month while searching for more floral fragrances as I tend to heavily lean towards vanilla based gourmands and wanted to expand my collection . I already had a sample of Bois 1920 Durrocafe and immediately fell in love so I had high expectations of this line from the start and I was very much not disappointed. As described, the scent is mostly rose and incense but it balances perfectly with the notes of sugar and vanilla, making a mysterious and sexy fragrances for date nights. Despite the patchouli notes which I generally have a disdain for, it is not “grandmas bathroom” smelling in the slightest. It’s nice, not too heavy, not too airy, and the scent lasts a while (about 8 hours from personal experience).This scent is definitely not for everyday unless you’re bold. As a heavy gourmand lover this is probably one of the only floral leaning fragrances I will ever wear. There’s a kind of evilness to it though. This is something a 20 something siouxie and the banshees fangirl would wear. Or an evil sorcerer, it’s super gothic in my opinion. Might be a turn off for some. On the negative side, while I do absolutely love this fragrance it smells like chicken soup sometimes! I have no clue as to why! I go take a sniff and it smells like straight maruchan creamy chicken. I do not make any of these soups nor do I even have them in my house so it’s not just something im picking up in the background. Super weird, but I love this fragrance and will stick by it. Goths rule the world!

Amazing unisex, sweet, woody incense perfume, very loud and expressive, and one of the most long lasting perfumes I have ever tried. The composition opens with a sweet rose note. However, Relativemente Rosso is everything but a rose perfume. The floweriness fades away very quickly and gives way to the smoke and the woodiness, which represent the character of this perfume. It's also a bit powdery due to immortelle, I suppose. The sandalwood also has a powdery touch. I'm no expert in raw materials, but here the sandalwood note smells very real and authentic, like in the older version of Samsara, opposed to the papery feel of the synthetic sandal. The base is still woody, with prominent ambergris and its savory saltiness, which combines lovely with the olibanum (which is still there) and the woods. I don't get any patchouli, but do feel vetiver, which makes the drydown a bit closer to the traditionally masculine feel. RR lasts, and lasts, and lasts... I don't know how long. Too long! I wonder who will ever need such a big bottle of it. I wish there were smaller (and cheaper!) bottles. Amazing stuff, highly recommended to those who appreciate sandalwood and incense perfumes and aren't afraid of sweetness (which is not overbearing here at all, and there is no separate vanilla note, just a drop of sweetness in the sea of woods and smoke).

Slightly spicy opening with herbs and rose. The rose is present, but it’s in the background and acts as a spice, not as a main character. Something in the opening reminds me of licorice. For a few minutes it smells like cough syrup (specifically a fermented dandelion root extract one), but the herbal licorice note fades quickly, and I’m left with beautiful, powdery, ambery and sweet rose incense. One if the best rose fragrance I’ve ever smelled, only outrun by Smyrna. The drydown is to die for. The rose blends with amber and sugar, creating a pleasant and unique warm and sweet fragrance. It’s so smooth, not sharp or screechy. It’s neither a bulgarian rose water scent nor a turkish delight, so if that’s the type of rose fragrance you’re looking for, this will not be it. But if you like powdery, incensy, herbal vanilla fragrances like Cuir Beluga or Cafe Chantant, and you’re looking for that type of scent with rose in it - definitely try out Relativamente Rosso! I consider Relativamente Rosso truly unisex, could see it working for a woman just aswell as a man, who likes sweet, warm, ambery incense fragrances.

#1128 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I'm currently focusing on incense scents and trying to stay away from the many that include rose as they can come off cloying and heavy. But on occasion I just can't walk away from one and this is one of those. First thing that came to mind when I smelled this sugary stuff was someone layered Aquolina "Steel Sugar" with Gucci "Envy." But in the dry down it comes off like Guerlain's "Cuir Beluga." And while the rose is detectible in the opening, it's not prominent in the dry down. So this works for me. And hey, Cuir Beluga is a scent I love at a price I hate. $340 and up. This stuff is under $70 at some retailers. So I'm kinda excited to find this. This will not offend anyone. Car pool, elevator, small office safe and very attractive for business or pleasure. I think it's a safe blind buy.

Nose Note #1018 I've just finished 1740 Marquis de Sade which I fell in love with and got excited about Relativamente Rosso as many people voted for similarty. No, this is a completely different story. 1740 is much more masculine, RR is much more unisex. The main difference is this prominently RED quality about RR, it almost smells like cherry, and it's more than moderately sweet, whereas 1740 is not sweet at all. RR is reminding me distantly of Xerjoff TI Monkey Special, but much more unisex, red, not so dark and without patchouli. I must say, RR is very beautiful. Right from the first spray - I really enjoy it. Borderline unisex, leaning feminine. Very pleasant performance. 8.3/10, the rating may go even higher, this is really nice

I have a question. I bought this fragrance for around 100$ for 100ml and i love it its such a unique fragrance. But here comes the question when i spray it my finger that i use on the atomizer gets wet and the top of the atomizer get wet and i dont know why this is happening it is like its spraying to much juice or leaking from the atomizer everytime i spray it. I just want to know if maybe i push the atomizer down to far so the hole where the fragrance comes out gets pushed down in like the neck of the fragrance causing it to come everywhere or if the atomizer is broken i would appreciate if someone could tell me why this is happening

This is pure bliss... Cognac chocolate rosewood, fire, and dry rose petals. People go crazy when I wear it, they come to me and ask, with their eyes sparkling, what on earth does smell sooo good. I wear it myself (petite dark haired woman in her early thirties), but it would suit so perfectly a man, an attractive dark haired artistic (or not) man, hell yes. You can feel from my wording that this perfume is very good, I guess :)

This fragrance is intoxicating! The initial sweetness from the sugar and rose de mai grabs your attention, then it transitions into this warm, spicy, and slightly balsamic heart. The dry down is heavenly - a perfect blend of vanilla, amber, and patchouli that lingers for hours. Definitely a signature scent worth investing in!

To.my nose this is a Samhain witchy fragrance, mystic, enigmatic, alluring, weird, unique, cozy, I just love it. It also gave me vibes to "Attaquer le Soleil Marquis de Sade" but from etat libre d'Orange, like this sorta woody-immorterlle-incense-resinous-ish type of fragrance, with relativamente Rosso being more sweet.

This is really lovely! Smells like a bunch of different spices mixed with honey and beeswax and maybe some olibanum as well. It’s super warming and feeling of the rich balsamic substitutes that you can find in the some traditional medicine stores. My ig: scent.guide

Smell like chrysanthemum tea with sugar, quite interesting, just a slight touch of rosy scent, if you expect its a rose scent, it will a disappointed to you, but overall its a quite unique fragrance I give it 7/10

The rose vanishes as soon as I put the fragrance on my skin, which is not a bad thing. Very nice, powdery, sweet woody scent, definitively one of the best Bois 1920 scent so far.

I love this madly and keep decanting it for others to experience. It's a dabber,NOT a sprayer ;-)

This is like a better version on Profumi Del Forte Ambra Mediterranea. Lasts forever too.

Relativamente Rosso opens surprisingly gourmand with a Kahlua liqueur note — I get coffee and rum — followed by honey/nectar. The progression then flips things around and the peppery incense takes control, a little metallic. There's a dried rose note and an overall nutty, tarry, smoky quality that I struggle to reconcile with the note list but which blends beautifully with the incense. Is it davana + immortelle + black amber? I can't pick out any vanilla until late in the drydown beyond a subdued sweetness in the base, reminiscent of tobacco leaf. This is right up my street. A complex smoky incense with a beguiling backdrop. It's almost a tobacco scent though there's no tobacco in it. Brown and rich. Perfect for autumn and winter nights.

Now THIS is very my style. Very much like vento nel vento of the same line, which I absolutely love, but without the dusty quality and licorice note. This is similarly churchy, resinous, balsamic, slightly incensey, and sweet, but not overbearing. Not getting a lot of rose at all. It just smells like a version (of VNV) that I can love to the full. Unique and gorgeous, definitely try before you buy - it may not be a crowd pleasing scent, it's very niche. Going on my want list. ** Sample swap UK - get in touch! **

I am surprised coffee doesn't appear in the notes because it smells to me like a strongish coffee, with a little milk, Immortelle and on a slightly smoky resinous base, with a touch of patchouli and vanilla. Smells like the lovechild of Immortelle by Manos Gerakinis and Tango by Masque Milano

To me this is the ultimate "witchy" fragrance. I picture a creeky wooden floor, in an old apothecary filled with candles, herbs and potions. It's rosey, sweet, incensey, and smells a bit like sweet prunes-- or a waxy port. It's grown on me so much. It's so witchy and so lovely.

Caramelised Demerara sugar smoke with marzipan sweetness. Initially I found it far too sweet, but this is too interesting to ignore. There’s a subtle metallic smoked mackerel skin accord which I actually don’t mind. I get no rose unfortunately. This is almost like a less refined and half-hearted attempt at being SHL ‘Taklamakan’. If ultra sweet, niche gourmand is your thing, then this is very interesting. Great for a cold winters day.

Woah!! Burnt sugar for real. Points to the review below me. And some medicinal, herbal, floral garnishes. A unique and ultra sweet “femme fatale” fragrance. It actually seems too sweet for me, but I do have to give serious points for originality. I’m not sure I have smelled anything quite like this. Won’t be buying personally.

Ordered this from official site. Reading the reviews and perfume profile made expectstions that were not really met. Not a safe blind buy! For me it is pretty cold incense perfume with a bit of "something else". Not bad but I did not expect that when I purchased! Try out first!!!

This is effing WEIRD. I love amber. It starts out like an amber then is like a rotting amber gone bad mixed with semen, used cooking oil and smoke. A kitchen fire. amber, smoke, balsamic; sour sharp scent like heavy cumin and cooking oil

Very strong immortelle, overall, smells a lot like burnt thick sugar, but in a bad way.

Really dark, dry rose. Can't see it on anyone but mature confident woman. It's not an easy fragrance to pull of, definitely not a crowd pleaser. I have asked 3 people about an opinion on this one and noone liked it. For me opening is too heavy on incense and rose but after couple of minutes it calms down and turns into smooth dark rose. 5/10

Make sure you sample before you buy super niche bottles like ones Bois 1920 makes. These kinds of perfumes will be different from what you expect it to be whether good or bad, especially with notes you don’t really smell that much in other scents on the market, niche or designer. I thought that I would get a combo that was incensy rose some floral and sugar combination that would somehow make it boozy but I didn’t get that at all. I just got some sickly sweet floral concoction that I didn’t know how to describe. I do like florals and animalic smells but this was just over the top for me and I wanted to vomit. Performance is a fucking beast with this one, one spray is more than enough. I did 3 and that was 3 too much for me. I was hoping as it dried down it would be easier on my nose but I had to drench myself in hand sanitizer. Sample this if this one tickles your fancy because it’s a really artistic perfume and it will probably smell different than what you think it might be. And just use 1 spray, this was probably the most powerful perfume I’ve ever worn on myself. There’s certain perfumes you can blind buy and kind of know what to expect or know if it reminds you of a certain fragrance but other ones like this will be a surprise to you good or bad.

A wonderful fragrance!! A bit of a dark kind of boozy sweetness that I get from the Sugar (like caramel from a candy apple sort of sweetness); gentlemen wear at your own risk, whoever smells this on you will salivate from the mouth and may attack. You have been warned!! The sugar is followed by a spicy Frankincense. Relativamente Rosso gives off a nice Sandalwood, Woodsy, Smokey mixture that's really really nice. In the end this all comes together with the Vanilla and Vetiver that reminds me of Real Patchouly yet with more punch, sweetness, and smoke. Projects immensely! Longevity is about 12+hours! Sillage is outstanding! Overall, this is a great fragrance to have in your wardrobe. As mention in my review of Real Patchouly, you don't need Real Patchouly if you have this already!! (Reminds me of Tiziana Terenzi's Laudaro Nero; smoke, ash, sweet, boozy, & spiciness)

this is not a rose scent, that's for sure. I usually hate the rose note in perfume and I detect it straight away, but this was not the case here. It should also be classified more like an oriental, at least for me. after the first blast, I immediately detect a strong note of rum/some spicy alcoholic beverage, plus some other spices. after that (about 30 mins I'd say), it dries down to a delicious honey (that's what it smells like, although only sugar is stated, maybe some combo with vanilla) and flowers plus some more juicy spices. I have a sample from the first formulation back in 2013, and the review is based on that one. fabulous scent, very niche, both in elegance and composition. Bravo!

Official notes Top: May rose absolute, Sugar touch, Incense Heart: Everlasting resinoid, Davana, Sandalwood Dry down: Black amber, Vanilla, Vetiver, Patchouli I wish I got some rose from this. And I am confused by sugar being listed in the opening. Literally all I am getting from the opening is a harsh smoke. I can't help but think of barbecues, not a burning incense stick. When the smokiness finally calms down it gradually gets more and more sweet. Like a nice burnt sweet incense stick. I love it at this point, but the opening is a big no for me.

sweet henna! kind of awful to be honest as i smell the henna sharply right after few seconds away from the top note! i guess the sharp ambergris with sugar canes makes the effect of that unpleasant henna, and maybe with the help of olibanum. not for me nope. Edit (8th February 2017) after around 17 months I kind of like what I smell now! The only thing that kind of disturbs me is the sugar note, the henna factor is quite impressive somehow with the ambergris. It became kind of impressive. Only if there is a 30ml or 50ml beside this.

This fragrance reminded me of a magical formula: a pinch of rose, incense and a sprinkling of sugar. It is dominated by incensed, in non-clerical way,which accompany a rose that I would define as "glaced ". Pleasant, personally I would have preferred to perceive this flower more, it seems like a cloud in which you are enveloped, and I would gladly use it. "Everything is relative. Immortelle it is! After first sniff what is this myrrh becoming thru? Universelle 1900 by Lalique, immortelle with incense! In this package with very decent price tag indeed compared to Lalique's anniversary line doup with! Absolutely evoquate alluring scooping around with you! Another similar with even more harsh impromt label is Une Nuit Nomade Sumatra-vibes, adding the burned tire beside with! But hey, Relativemente Rosso is more than good to go with!

I agree with the reviewer before me- better to sample this one! I blind bought it and I’m about to ship it back. This is a sickly sweet-with-weird incense notes to me. It made me want to vomit. I don’t even find it gourmand- just softly sickly sweet. Je n’aime pas! Now I know I don’t always have the same taste as Demi Rawling..

I sprayed this and first impression was of amazingly beautiful licorice. Then the fragrance evolved and reminded me of Moresque's Contessa, but in a lighter way. I like Contessa but cannot wear it often because of it's heaviness. This one is a quieter version, without the headache.

again ... the note breakdown is wrong but this is a sweet incense fragrance with which overpowers the other notes in the beginning but then an amazing soft smoky sweet drydown that you will keep smelling for hours i sprayed this at around 6pm and i could smell it the next morning.

It smells exactly like sugar-coated fennel seeds, we here call it "Mukhwas", a type of mouth freshener. Tried it twice, once on skin and 2nd on paper tester, same result! Quite surprised to see, fennel is not included in the Notes pyramid!!!

The Old Fashioned cocktail with a rose bouquet is what it smells on my skin. Its stunning, i did not rate this that highly at first but looking back at it now its so amazing. THIS IS EROTIC 9/10

To me this smells like caramel mixed with blood. From start to finish all I get is sweet caramel and the smell of metal, like iron. Not sure yet how I feel about that.

Sweet, sugary, floral, woody-incense fragrance. Delicious gourmand mixed with incense, very well done. You really have to like your fragrances sweet to appreciate it.

Very close to 1/1 of Histoires de Parfums 1740. The Marquise de Sade. Maybe a little more modernized. It is good at performance too.
