Sutra Ylang

I agree with sweetnspicey that this juice start's off with a very strong sweet/woodsy accord with cardamom and sandalwood. After awhile cardamom fades as a warm soft amber increases. Also a definite floral note of rose and lily to help balance the woodsy base. There's a few notes I'm not able to pick up...lemon and bergamot. Both Longevity and Silage are rated high in my book..it lasts over 8 hours. Final thoughts, A real classy aroma with sandalwood and amber shining through. This is my first bottle of Bois and I will pick up several others as time passes. A very clean aroma and woodsy/sweet/powdery base giving you that cozy creamy aroma. 9/10 I found myself wanting to smell my wrist all day...♥♥♥

It starts out with very strong cardamom and woods, but the cardamom begins to fade and an intense amber comes in. At first it smells more masculine than I would choose to wear, but over time the masculine quality subsides, and ultimately you arrive at a base of jasmine incense mixed with woods. The perfume is just a little powdery and has a brooding and mysterious Oriental vibe. I would have named it Opium if there wasn't already a perfume by that name. It reminds me of the movie The Last Emperor when the beautiful Empress has a bit of a breakdown and stuffs her mouth with the fresh white petals of opium poppies. This is beautiful, albeit rather depressing.

Firstly, a big thank you to SumoTigerCat for the great advice (enabling). I am very happy I took the plunge, the green/herbal/spicy opening is very reminiscent of vintage Jolie Madame, but becomes well rounded as Amber enters the bouquet.I am picking up such complex variations that just when I think I have it pinned down it eludes me again...my kinda girl.Long lasting, assertive without being brash, distinctive enough to turn heads, I don't get the powder but love the warmth.A quality elegant offering.

Love the quality of Bois 1920 scents, and Sutra Ylang is a great example of this quality! This fragrance flows beautifully. It is spicy, but not harsh, floral but not flowery. Amber without being too sweet. I can detect the Lily and Carnation, they are interesting sparks in an otherwise spiced oriental. It must be the Carnation that gives Sutra Ylang its' touch of powder. This is a beautiful scent that I feel I could wear anywhere, at any time.

How interesting it is to learn that a fragrance will react differently kn different climate. Here in Jakarta, it has a a good projection and last long time. My favorite blind buy from last year.

This is a scent that I didn't know that I needed. (And, thank you to the Fragrantian that allowed me to sample it.) I am now "of a certain age", and I find that this scent reminds me of Opium, Coco Noir, and a lot of the classic Oriental style fragrances from my youth. Especially as it dries down and melds into your skin, it develops an off-dry, spicy, rich depth that is enchanting. I am loving how this scent evokes that feeling of those classic (now, vintage) fragrances. However, as I sniff this one, I'm also struck by how this scent brings that "vibe" (for lack of a better way to put it) into the current era, by making it lighter on its feet and much more agile. The more vintage fragrances that I would compare this scent to were powerhouses that staked a claim. (I mean, it was the 80s. Everything was neon, bold and screaming for attention.) This is a more teasing and tantalizing scent, giving you lighter and almost airy wisps of scent throughout the longevity of the fragrance. I think that because of the personal connotations, I tend to label this scent "feminine". But, truly that's just because the scents that I personally find similar to this one were marketed as feminine. It absolutely could be worn by anyone; and, I wouldn't let the label and comparisons be the deciding factor on if you could wear it, or not. I find that this performs very well; I have no complaints with the longevity, projection or sillage.

This one is a bit mature to my taste, but it is fairly well composed. I really don't reach for this one more than a few times a year at most. My Rating 6

Must de cartier vibe, great scent for gloomy Fall evenings

اولش که حالت گرفته داره بوش . یه جورایی شبیه به عطرهایی هست که بوی انجیر دارن . به عقیده ی من باید سلیقه ی بویایی خاصی داشته باشین که به این عطر علاقه پیدا کنید. بدون تست اصلا طرفش نرید At the first, it has a choky state. After about 15 minute, it become similar to fig base perfumes. I highly recommend that test it before buying and don't get it blind buy Nowise.

Sutra Ylang vs. Real Patchouly???? As I waited eagerly to receive my 3.4 oz bottle of Sutra Ylang, I was somewhat disappointed. Upon first sniff, I thought, wait a minute, "I purchased this already!!!!" On my drive home, I couldn't help but to go to my collection and smell Real Patchouly....and there it was, so I thought!!! I have this one. Did someone change the label and put Sutra Ylang on the bottom of the bottle...was this a joke? As I allowed the fragrance to settle, I began to get the differences...I then sprayed both on a piece of tissue paper allowing them to dry for a moment then I asked for my wife's opinion, she concluded that there is a difference however, there are similarities also. Sutra Ylang opens with floral, but very smokey and powdery feel. If you like Creed's Royal Delight you will like this!! There is this dark violent essence along with a sandalwood base; let me also mention that there is the floral sweetness to this that Real Patchouly does not have. I really enjoy this fragrance now after having given it some time. Again, this resembles Real Patchouly...so if you have that one you could get by with out this one. This has great longevity...I sprayed this on yesterday around 7:00, grabbed my shirt from yesterday, through it on to run out the door and I still got a whiff. Pros: great longevity, projects well, well balanced.... Cons: kind of resembles slightly Real Patchouly.

Enjoying my early evening experience with this perfumer for the first time. I started with this one rather than their original. Glad I did as it sets a rubric in place not devised by a formative beginning but rather by a leap of confidence that proves to be sharp upon the opening. Observaition: A slight medicinal odor; tinged with an alcoholic moment which quickly burns off to open up with bergamot and what I originally felt was vertiver, but learned soon it was cedar and sandalwood. I was surprised Amber wasn't listed its top or mid-notes but that dosen't surprise me...the lemon and jasmine combine to be warm and scintillating. The dry down is powdery, but not babyish or musty. The mid-notes of lily, rose and other soft florals create a very soft, resiliant body of fragrance. The fragrance is pleasant and I can see how it could be a very romantic evening ahead.

Oriental's can scare me. They can smell a bit aged. Sutra Ylang tiptoes around that line, but doesn't cross it. It is mature without being elderly. I love Enzo Galardi. I love his passion for perfumes that smell of fresh ingredients rather than synthetics. Something in his aesthetic reminds me of fine chefs. Here he showcases a lovely amber and plays with traditional jasmine and the oriental genre of perfumery. I tend to think in comparisons. This reminds me a bit of Ava Luxe's Madam X. Less dusty, bolder without the lingering sweetness. This could convert me to loving traditional orientals. My only wish would be a bit more longevity. But then, one can always reapply. Amber isn't listed in the notes. This is very curious. I assure you, this is an amber scent.

I'm revisiting my samples as ive enjoyed them over the summer and this is one that has risen to the top for me. Although as I'm preparing for Fall and my signature scent Interlude Man, I realize I'd like something in the same family but not as expensive and yet intriquing. Víolá!

Bought for husband as identified notes that he would enjoy. Aged and many levels.

It's so similar at Sublime Jean Patou! Same ylang+incense.
