004 Gin Mandarine Musc

One of my favorite purchases of 2021. This was a total blind-buy, so I went in expecting a fresh, citrusy kind of fragrance with some G&T vibes. Although that element is present in the fragrance, to my delight the tobacco is actually the star of the show. This is one of the best and only fresh, summer appropriate tobaccos I know of. The fragrance opens with a bouquet of sweet citruses, zingy ginger, and just a twinge of juniper, but it quickly morphs into a leafy tobacco with just a touch of tonka sweetness, almost Christmassy spices, and smooth musks, while still maintaining its overall freshness and vibrancy. And that's it! Like other Bon Parfumeur fragrances, 004 mostly remains linear the rest of its life (which is about 8-10 hours on my skin, with decent projection even through my mask for the first 2 hours), and I'm totally okay with it. This has become my new go-to dumb reach fragrance. I cannot imagine a time or a place where this wouldn't be apropos. Office, date night, casual hangouts with the homies, maybe even semi-formal occasions - I could see 004 working well in all of those instances. It's like a pair of dark blue, quality designer jeans - it just works. Has signature scent written all over it. The best way I could describe this fragrance is "handsome". A handsome, masculine, tailored navy blazer of a fragrance. Somewhat unisex, but personally I think this would work best on a man. Wearable all year round. Overall, this is not blazing new olfactory trails or some kind of grand artistic statement, but it does smell damn good, and I absolutely love it. For the price, you get a relatively unique (as in it doesn't smell like a designer), natural smelling fragrance with pretty great performance. What's not to love? 9.5/10, because nothing is perfect.

I love the scent of this fragrance but it's hard to find other people liking it too much. If you're looking for a compliment-getter, this is not the one. I still find some people to like it and personally I find it very nice. It is giving me the vibe of going to a restaurant after a day at the beach, wearing this. The longetivity is not good at all on my skin, but I did hear that on some people it lasts over 5 hours. For me, it's maximum 2 hours. That's basically the only negative thing about this fragrance. It's very easy and not strong at all, so only the closest people will be able to smell it on you. There's a cinnamon-ish type of smell that nobody seems to talk about, but me and the people who smelled it recognized it. 8.5/10 Would've been over 9.5/10 if it would actually last, but you have to reapply over 4 times a day. Update!! I let the fragrance sit for about a month now, and after spraying it now, it actually lasts longer than when i bought it! About 4-5 hours now! If you have this fragrance and it doesn't last long, you should try letting it sit for a few weeks. Updated rating: 9.8/10

Fresh and clean -- the terms others are using to describe 004 -- are spot on. Think the lingering aroma of Irish Spring when you step right out of the shower or like the old school liquid aftershaves your dad might have splashed on his face in the mornings. I suppose that places 004 in the barbershop genre, but I'd prefer to think of it as just clean. The predominant citrus to me is tart -- more like a grapefruit-mint combination than the lemon-orange listed on Fragrantica -- but works well, and that mint note makes 004 wearable during the day even in the colder months. Some have mentioned an earthy drydown. I must not be there yet -- it's still citrus-spearminty on me, about 20-30 mins in. Unfortunately, performance isn't great. I've been test spraying it on my hand for the past few hours, and every time, despite being layered on, I cannot smell it after 30 minutes. Blind buy safe but it's so far turning out to be one of those fragrances that you have to carry around with you for frequent reapplications.

It's true that it states Cologne on the packaging. And also, eau de perfume!. I would lean more on an intensity: Eau de Parfum. It is bursting with freshness and spice. With its top notes. It surprises with its Gin & Tonic facet, not alcoholic! Without putting off non-drinkers... It is balanced by its heart notes: a green and lively ginger, racy juniper berries, an aromatic and slightly warm, playful nutmeg! A very aromatic Gin, rounded off by a very nice balance of base notes, barely woody. Base notes tending towards Tonka bean, “warm” and not earthy patchouli, lukewarm tobacco; for a blurry and pleasant background, "a clean cream"... (everything is light) It is a very surprising aromatic citrus. It's true that I noticed, very fleetingly, a note of chlorophyll chewing gum! An almost, strong,tsubliminal note... A bit like this evocation of "Coke" in candy format, also subliminal, on Aziyade Parfum d'Empire water. It's a great success.

Really fresh and spicy scent for the summer. The citrus, juniper, and ginger are so bright and sparkling on initial spray. There is a slight gin booziness to it, but not aggressively boozy. The nutmeg, tobacco, and patchouli do give it some depth as opposed to just citrus. Projection is solid, longevity is kind of medium for me, I do feel the need to reapply after 2-3 hours. More masculine leaning though could easily be unisex. This is a unique, relatively affordable niche scent even within the citrus + ginger summer fragrances that are a dime a dozen nowadays.

A cheerful, positive, and pleasant fragrance for a summer day. The name speaks for itself and generally reflects the notes well. The gin scent is very realistic and may raise questions, but this makes the perfume even more interesting. Mandarin is also clearly discernible. Musk is too, although, to be honest, I would prefer there to be less of it. For me, this is the canonical version of a vacation fragrance. The performance and longevity are very good for the price.

This is great. But its not an office scent. The gin really sticks out like you have a drink or two. Its a skin scent from my experience and a really nice one. There is an orangey greeney aura hovering about 5cm from your skin. The mandarin is clearly noticeable and a realistic smelling one. Do not overspray. Two sprays goes a long way. More than that and the scent could annoy you or others from my experience

I would say that 004 has a full suit, good tie and a watch that seems expensive but is cheaper than expected. It's a dense citrusy like fragrance, in the opening a freshly squeezed mandarine, and then comes all the elegance of this fragrance. A clean and serius man who knows about good scents.

This is pure heaven. Want a fresh men's fragrance that is handsome, classy, and will get you compliments? This is it. Cheesus and crackers o love this.

I disagree with the other comparisons. 004 smells nearly identical to Xerjoff Torino21. A very clean, minty citrus.

Yummy, citrusy, wintery (in my opinion), musky, herbal. Very comforting and fresh, but not cold.

Beautiful. very similar to Mon Vetiver from Essential Parfums.

After a couple of wears I have concluded with that, I enjoy this one through and through. A very unisex freshie with a slight masculine vibe. I am going to give away my sample to someone who will appreciate this more than me, but I wouldn’t be mad if I ended up on a date with someone wearing this. The scent itself is very sparkling, fresh and has a «cold» citrusy top. Initially I get a lot of nutmeg which is quite off-putting on my skin, but as soon as the fragrance dries down on my skin the nutmeg disappears and the scent smells very luxurious. The drydown opens up for a sparkling ginger, a juniper that really shines together with the sweet and perfectly bitter mandarin, and a sweet fruitchouli ties it all together in the base. I never smell anything that could remind me of tobacco, but maybe that disappears together with the nutmeg.

Sampling Bon Parfumeur 004 Gin Mandarin Musc, and like 003 (which I sampled yesterday), this is a really pleasant blend that feels aptly described by the titular trio of notes, with fresh/sweet/tart playing against junipery/somewhat boozy gin, tastefully modern but with enough of a classic cologne aspect, something vaguely reminding me of Dior Eau Sauvage, that it’s a nice innovation while not being terribly new or unique. A bit of a gin-and-tonic cologne vibe, overall, while not insisting heavily on the alcoholic aspect. The concentration is EDP with retail pricing of $107/53/34 for 100/30/15ml, sold at boutiques like Ministry of Scent from which. It performs pretty well, also. 7 out of 10

A really realistic gin scent, idk how ppl would interpret it, but you really get that medicinal, herbal smell you get from a good gin. It's fresh, unisex and really well done, I did not think it would be one of my fav from Bon parfumeur but they're good with the fresh scent, which are not too classic. Also I hate ginger, but here it blends well with the rest. The longevity is not super good but idk most fresh scents do not last on me.

Bon Parfumeur 004 is a very nice, fresh and clean unisex fragrance. Opens with a blast of mandarin and citruses and after some time turns into a fresh/spicy scent. It’s drydown feels also clean and musky. Very pleasant scent overall and as the majority of these fragrances you may need to spray a bit more than usual, but do not overdo it, because its performance is better than an average fresh perfume! Well done from the brand!

Fresh and clean. Not blasting citrus as other cologne type fragrances but it has a modern twist that suits better for relaxed situations, day dates or more creative environments. The gin note is definitely there but it is not overpowering at all as it is well blended and the mandarin and the musk bring down the astringency. Good for summer, will be putting this in heavy rotation.

This starts out with an immediate, astringent blast - so astringent that on first sniff it is like a blast of Sea Breeze from the 90s. It then mellows a bit with sweet citrus orange. Overall the effect is a fresh, sweet alcoholic orange drink.

It's fun, you won't smell this everywhere. It's a fun take on a citrus that doesnt make it generic and boring. It smells a bit like G&T, but not enough to put off non drinkers. It's like an idealised G&T but with sweetness in there.

A really pleasant citrusy smell. Photorealistic in the sense if you think of gin and tonic (heavy on the juniper )with freshly squeezed lemons. Has also a touch of salty marine/aquatic direction. I like it.

Super clean, i love gin and i like how this bodies the same sharp citrusy botanic quality; I think it’s perfect for nights. definitely a slightly slightly more male unisex fragrance

I like it, fruity BUT not too sweet. However, it is a very close to skin scent.

I was gifted this one a few years back, and it’s been a weird ride. There have been times where I’ve had to scrub it all the way off, and some where I think that it’s quite okay. In general the scent is just not fully my cup of tea. I like fresh, spicy, woody, citrusy- but this opens medicinally citrus sweet, like children’s cold medicine? Then the juniper berry also comes in giving the whole herbal, gin thing, and truthfully I do not want to smell gin at all. The whole slightly sweet, alchohol like, aftershave vibe backed by tobacco can sometimes conjure up an image of a drunk for me. If I smelled this on someone else, maybe I wouldn’t feel so weirded out by it, that being said it definitely is an interesting take on a fresh citrusy scent.

Pretty sophisticated summer scent, finished 30ml, will not repurchase bc I'm a tad difficult when it comes to tobacco notes, but I admit, this is a good, and relatively cheap banger

Smells like a weird tree in a forest

I'm testing the Bon Perfumer discovery set of 23 fragrances blind. I haven't looked up anything about the brand or the fragrances. I'm working through the cute little bottles in their numbered order. 004 opened green citrus with slightly fruity and floral elements but dried down more with more herbs, a tiny bit of spice and maybe jasmine. After a few minutes there's a nice blend, but like others in this collection it goes on intimate and stays a very low skin scent. At times it's hard to decipher anything. Looking at the notes now, you can pull out most, but juniper, tobacco, and nutmeg seem the most reaching. I can still smell it at the end of the day, but don't expect anyone but those your most intimate with to even know.

A really nice citrus opening, with ginger and nutmeg adding some spiciness, but I can’t stand the dry down. To me it smells furry, sweet, earthy and sickly (I can’t pinpoint what the note is I don’t like, maybe the tobacco or the tonka, or just how it all blends together). And it really won’t scrub off....

This reminds me of my grandfather, straight up. Definitely giving men's cologne/after shave vibe. Probably the juniper is the culprit. Pass.

SKIN TEST UPDATE: Even more beautiful on skin than the test strip! I’m realizing that BP’s fresh scents are the ones that rock my socks. Aromatic, crisp, sheer and slightly bitter. Beautiful. I love how biting the juniper berry note is but I also genuinely love both juniper berries and gin. I could see this being difficult for some, so I think you truly need to sample even if you love all the notes. I’m shocked that this freshie after 3+ hours the longevity and sillage outperforms the woody & earthy 401. Maybe I do need a the $40 bottle. Tbh I had no idea that 004 had patchouli listed as a base note. I’m very happy I either can’t detect it or this is the freshest patchouli I’ve ever smelled, so it doesn’t leave me running to the windows wildly gulping fresh air. 004 is fresh and musky, ideal for hot & humid days. It’s perfect for when dense, super sweet or spicy scents would be suffocating. To me, this reads as slightly aromatic (the juniper berry/gin), slightly sweet scent that’s a short walk from a true Gin & Tonic cocktail, though not entirely. The mandarin adds a pretty & subtle citrus that doesn’t read like a lemon bomb. I think the star of the show is the musk note. It’s so beautiful. I truly enjoy this scent but I can comfortably say that I don’t need a full bottle, even with only trying 004 on a paper test strip.

Loving 003 of the line I was SO tempted to buy this blindly. Orange, bergamot, what could go wrong right?So so SO glad I did not, just another cautionary tale to never blind buy. It's good, but definitely not for me. I've watched so many reviews, everyone loves it, mostly men reviewing so I could have guessed it may not align with my tastes. It is not really masculine, but definitely a huge dose of alcohol upon opening, and - for me- not enough of that lovely citrus. Also to my nose a little uneventful, nice enough, a little musky a little juniper, not too strong, and a bit of citrus yes but a no buy for me. There is a really cheap bottle going on vinted for anyone who is interested, I'm sticking to my 003. (And if, by any chance anyone in the UK wants to rehome their 003, hit me up!)

Amazing! Like a summer vacation at the sea. Smells „money“ rich, clear, sophisticated to me plus a bit Summer suntan lotion. This perfume really makes me happy. Love it! The top notes are refreshing and I can smell the fresh Gin note and a hint of the spices, too. On my skin, the top notes + Gin surprisingly stay until the end, running through the heart and base notes. It becomes softer but still, the top notes + Gin linger on. It‘s a simple but gorgeous perfume.

A tobacco fragrance you can wear on summer. It resembles alot like Lalique Hombre Noire, same perfumer for both of this gorgeous creations, not identical but similar enough not to be noticed. The lemony tart is an opening you can never get tired from, the berries and the ginger are very well blended and don't overpower the other notes. 10/10

I get a ton of mint off the bat, green and fresh like a cold shower on a super hot day. A hint of tobacco in the background and some orange, but the opening is dominated by the mint.

Patchouli is the base in 8/10 mens fragrance’s.. I CAN’T FUCKINGGGGGGGGGGG STAND IT!!! Makes the dry down smell the exact same in everything. Repulsive 🤢 patchouli

Gin balanced with other notes to make it more wearable. Very comforting. Unisex but a bit more feminine leaning. Wish that gin part was a bit more stronger.
