401 cedar, candied plum, vanilla

This one really surprised me. This feels like a scent I normally wouldn't like, it doesn't smell particularly realistic, is very sweet in a maltol-y syrupy way and has a modern ambery woody core, but for whatever reason everything just feels perfectly matched and the result is very nice. I get this delicious jammy honey plum accord which is contrasted by a labdanum heavy amber, which is kind of tart and leathery and further evokes the tart peel of a plum. Plenty of cinnamon is in there too to really bring out that warm spicy pastry feel. The backdrop is halfway between a herbal aromatic peppery basil and smokey woody cedar. It feels quite radiant, not too concentrated and base heavy with nice projection and transparency. Granted not the best blended scent with the honeyed sweetness really popping out from time to time, other times the wood feels a bit too grainy, but you forgive it because the combination just works so well together, and also because those 'unruly' elements come across as pleasant and overindulgent, rather than sharp or gritty. For me 401 just hits that perfect sweet spot between a 'homey' sweet fruitiness and a warm herbal woodiness without feeling edgy or pretentious, nor cheap or low quality.

A very good alternative to Tom Ford's japanaise plum, with a very good quality, more than acceptable performance and at a very good price. The plum is present during practically the entire development of the perfume, although with more prominence at the beginning and becoming a slight nuance towards drying. The incense part is less intense than in japanaise plum, making 401 a fresher and easier-to-wear fragrance, pulling even slightly to the gourmand, less messy side. On skin it lasts about 6 hours. I highly recommend trying this brand. The Discovery set is very affordable and the samples carry a lot of perfume. After trying several in the Discovery set I couldn't help but take advantage of the discount voucher to get a little bottle of this wonder! I love this! I know when I love a fragrance when I can't stop smelling my wrist. It's a beautiful blend of all my favourite note families. Overall, it's a sweet gourmand with plum that's not too cloying, with gentle spicy woods, and warm amber. The incense envelops it all really well. The longevity is moderate - I can still smell it on my skin for hours and hours after the initial spray but it's not overwhelming to the nose. I purchased the 15mL bottle, but I will be buying the 100mL when I use it up. If you're a fan of darker noir fragrances like Tom Ford's Plum Japanois, Serge Luten's range, MiN New York's Magic Circus, or Back To Black by Killian, this is in the same family.

If you know Montale perfumes, this scent goes into that direction. At the opening, I could swear I smelled oud, incense, rum and leather, with a hint of sweetness. It felt very edgy and modern. As the perfume dries down, the sweet, smoked, boozy plum comes to the front, beautifully complimented with the incense and the earthy patchouli. Obviously the woods give their depth to the scent, but I do not detect them in particular. I find this perfume perfectly unisex and I can imagine a confident woman wearing it. This is a modern oriental scent. Long-long lasting, evolving. Beautiful!

This is my scent, it's absolutely knee shaking delicious. It's an approachable sweet perfume with an edge. Upon spraying the plum is most noticeable (I liked someone else's review that it's a "salty plum"). After a few hours it becomes smoky, cedar dominant, but the tart fruitiness is still there beneath. Would float atop my skin all day in a very casual, warm way. It was my autumn/winter scent and I used the entire bottle. It smells like sitting around a fire in a cabin with your friends and lovers while the aroma of the plum clafoutis you ate for dessert lingers in the room.

SO late to the game, but just got in a Black Friday haul, and I swear my first take on this, if you are old enough to remember, was the licorice candied smell of Good and Plenty. Must be the Cypress/Elemi/Insense mixxing with the plum. Love at first sniff. Totally captivating in a GG Reserve Privee sort of way. Two totally differnet scents, but both grab my olfactive and carnal attention that way.

I don't get any vanilla whatsoever, which is perfectly fine. I get a very prominent incense note with a sticky, sweet plum. End result is a woody, a bit sweet treat, and I am hooked on the stuff. Perfectly wearable by itself, but very easy to use for layering as well. Already ordered a full bottle, can't wait to test the rest of their offerings.

Peppery incense of fresh hamster cage shavings and dried black plum skins. Vanilla musk anchors it as a skin scent. More dry than sweet. Very pleasant, a bit unusual. If you like Oddity by Rag & Bone, but find it a bit too much for daily wear, 401 may be up your alley.

If you are missing Tom Ford's Plum Japonais, you should try this. Not an exact dopleganger but certainly scratches the same plum itches. Any vanilla is not sweet at all and it reads as a spicy wood plum. Nice.

This is soooo good. Gourmand with out being too sweet. Woods plum vanilla is what i get. Longevity is good, got a oki scent bobble around you! This with ombre leather is the bomb!

Plum and potpourri but like a really really good potpourri. Its simple but very well executed spice and incense are there floating around underneath that juicy plum note.

A wonderful budget Amouage - Memoir Woman clone. It's hardcore resins, got no plums ;-)

#139 of My Fragrance Journey - Bon Parfumeur 401 - Cèdre Prune Confite Vanille: Polished wood, not a scented candle This one's got that specific late-afternoon light to it - the kind that hits your skin like a slow warm wave, thick but never heavy. No dramatic night-out theatre here, no stage lighting. Just this easy, golden kind of presence. Masculinity that doesn't need to prove it's relaxed. It opens soft, almost glowing rather than dropping on you. Plum's the centrepiece - sun-warmed, velvety, not the syrupy jammy version you usually get. Cypress holds it together underneath, keeps it from going dense, keeps it airy. There's incense too, but more like a haze sitting in the room than smoke. Honestly, it feels less like perfume and more like expensive fabric catching the last bit of evening light. Not sure that makes total sense, but it's the closest I can get to it. There's a theatre quality to it before you've even thought about theatres - old polished timber, velvet seats that have absorbed years of quiet conversation, that feeling of footsteps behind a heavy curtain. Most plum-and-incense combos rush straight for smoke and cathedral darkness. This one doesn't. The incense stays subtle, adds weight without dominating anything. Polished, not dramatic. Half an hour in, maybe an hour, the plum starts to fade a bit and turns into something woodier and deeper. Cedar takes the lead - smooth resins underneath, a touch of cinnamon, never heavy-handed. And the vanilla - which is right there in the name - barely shows up as sweetness at all. It's more of a texture thing, soft and a bit powdery, rounding off the wood rather than turning sugary. If you're expecting a big vanilla moment or a roaring trail of incense, you won't get it here. That restraint is kind of the whole point, though. It settles into this warm afterglow - not too dry, not too sweet, moderate in how far it actually projects. Won't fill a room. But it sticks around long enough for cold autumn nights, or those spring evenings where you're still not quite ready to take the jacket off. It's built for being close to someone, not for being noticed across a bar. What I keep coming back to is the control. Sweet, but only just. Woody, but not dry. Incense, but never church-like. I’m intrigued by the plum note in perfumery - TF Plum Japonais caught my interest and I would not say it was love at first sight, but it grew on me. When in specific mood plum fragrances can brighten my day. I love the fact that this one does not come across too sweet and there is no “bacon” effect at the start as with TF which I considered rather challenging. I love the smaller size packaging and pricing for 30ml makes it really affordable (vs. TF). Who needs 100ml bottle if you have dozens different perfumes in your collection:-D Very cool unexpected discovery and I will certainly go for it. Totally unisex btw. If you are a fan of smokey fruity fragrances give it a try!

I got this as a gift from my dear husband. He bought it because he thought the scent notes sounded quite interesting. Even though it was so lovely of him, I disliked the first spray which reminded me of an Old Lady Cologne and Potpourri. Not very pleasant. However the longer it stayed on my skin, the more I liked it. Today I even really "craved" that scent. It's heavy on the incense and musk I'd say, the musk here is leaning more to the animalic family of musk. Vanilla and Patchouli are also quite noticeable on me. I do not get the plum note though. This scent is calming, mysterious, woody, smoky, comforting and mature.

Bought this for the Mrs, but had to try a spray after I read it was unisex. Plenty of wood, but a touch too sweet on my skin. The Mrs was gutted when TF discontinued plum japonaise. She loves this and wears it daily. It’s a stunning scent for the price tag. Definitely more female IMO, but some gents would pull this off, I’m sure. It’s a keeper for the Mrs. Happy wife, happy life.

A very solid unisex plum and incense. The plum comes across sticky like a raisin. Surprisingly it is one of the best plum centric fragrances I have smelled, even better than fragrances like Plum In Cognac or Orchid Leather which are way more expensive. If you like plum this might be the first thing I point to. Seems nicely balanced for an indulgent fruity thing. 7.9/10

I get an immediate spicy almost cinnamon-y, earthy vibe, followed by a dry down that is a tad sweet with some vanilla. I don’t really catch the candied plums notes that much. Overtime I do sense the incense and smoky sweetness. It’s a bit different so I do like that. I may not be able to wear this as an every day. Definitely a late fall to winter-like scent.

A lovely, slightly spicy fruitchuli. The candied plum could be cloying, but avoids that with the addition of patchouli and the spice from the cinnamon. The incense note is quite mild, but lasts. It reminds me of spicy Mexican candy, but overall it's sillage it's soft enough for the office or other close spaces.

I've been reapplying this all day long and it has grown on me. It's Amber with a Cedar/Vanilla mix. Perfectly unisex. I don't feel like it develops, rather it's pretty linear. I never got the plum. Overall, it's enjoyable. Don't blind buy though.

A bit woody, a bit incensey, a bit plummy... it's all of these things swirled together. I like it! Very nice sweet unisex scent.

A very enjoyable and fairly priced spicy sandalwood, featuring plum. This is good stuff!

I'm testing the Bon Perfumer discovery set of 23 fragrances blind. I haven't looked up anything about the brand or the fragrances. I'm working through the cute little bottles in their numbered order. 401 opens up with a nice earthy muskiness and has a slightly green and fresh edge. There's a hint of spice or maybe it's just a green pine/herb thing. It's very low in sillage and without pouring it on it is hard to pull any notes out. Minutes later all I really get is a clean pine scent with some lingering middle-tone musk and leaning a tad smokey. Looking at the notes now, the top ones explain the fragrance. And while one could arguably find many of the middle and base notes in the fragrance, it is significantly more uniform than the layered variety suggested. Plum doesn't seem particularly present. I don't smell this blind and go, ooo! "Plum"! And vanilla is waning. The first moments of the fragrance is quite nice, musky, herby geen, and slightly spiced, but not long after that the experience mostly fades to a different memory of itself.

A fragrance that could have been a real favorite if it hadn’t contained so much patchouli. Everything else is beautiful here: the liqueur-like effect, the dark plum, that little hint of cinnamon... But then comes this damp, earthy patchouli that layers itself over everything and, for me, spoils the whole composition. Still, it remains an alluring fragrance thanks to its mysterious, shadowy, almost gothic aura; 401 is undeniably intriguing. Yet I simply can’t stand those damp, earthy notes on my skin. So unfortunately, it’s a no for me, though I’m sure it will delight fans of vintage-style or patchouli-heavy perfumes.

the plum just ruins it for me. not a fruity fragrance fan in general but plum & cherry i just can't deal with. that aside it would have been a really interesting fragrance to me, vanilla + labdanum is fascinating, especially in combination with cypress + bergamot. idk i just got this randomly as a sample, if there were a version without the plum note i would probably be all over it.

Although Tom Ford's Plum Japonais and 401 are very similar within the first 15 minutes, still Plum Japonais is one of a kind! In the drydown, 401 becomes an unpleasant dry earthy-dusty scent, similar to Septamber by Gallagher Fragrances. For its price, 401 is OK.

It's not for me. Regardless I did like the fruity aspect.

More earthy and less fruity than I was expecting based both this site and influencer reviews. I enjoy it as a woody fragrance lover. The cedar unisex and is not sweetened much by that vanilla note. The vanilla is less gourmand for sure, and 401’s vanilla note reminds me of the vanilla note in Rifaqaat: not sweet but reads as sweet compared to earthy/woody or spicy notes. In looking at the fragrance breakdown here, I see there’s an elemi resin note in both scents which is why 401 and Rifaqaat are extended but not immediately connected to each other. I do get the plum marmalade note only because I eat it fairly often on toast or waffles. This note (like it’s edible counterpart) are not what you’d expect from like a stone fruit or a tooth achingly sweet peach or nectarine marmalade. You’d think plum marmalade, as a stone fruit that harvests around the same time each year, would be juicy and ripe and sweet. Plums aren’t incredibly sweet when preserved. I think once you get over that disappointment, 401’s quite nice. I do get an unwelcome powdery note that I’m assuming is from is from an unlisted violet note. On the whole, violet makes me nauseous, but thankfully I don’t get it too strongly on my test strip. On paper it’s not a groundbreaking DNA, nor is it a groundbreaking interpretation of an established DNA I was expecting. This is essentially a “fruitchuli” or a fruit & patchouli which have been going on since at least the 90s. In this category I prefer Nest’s “Black Tulip,” which I ended up returning anyway.

Well, call me crazy but I think this beauty has a very similar vibe of Byredo's Eleventh hour. I'm not meaning to say that they are identical or similar in terms of the scent, but both of them do have very distinct woody note that is blended well with some fruity elements. The difference is that Eleventh hour tends to have more spicy undertone, while 401 is more smoky and sweeter. I still need to do the testing for few more weeks to really decide whether I do love it or not, but at the moment, it's a 'strong like'. My skin chemistry usually doesn't go well with woody perfume since it amplifies woody note super strong up to the point where I really do smell like a tree bark, but 401 seems like an exception and it settles very well on my wrist. It is almost gourmandy from the middle note, but due to a strong incense note, it still does have that mysterious aura. P.S.: Super surprised to see that no one mentioning Byredo's Eleventh hour reference in the comment!

Sorry, but this is so disappointing. Especially because I waited so long until I had the money to buy (and it bloody went up in price while I was saving) 😭 I've sampled TF Plum Japonais before and adored it, but this isn't it. Does it have similarities? Yes, very much so. But take Plum Japonais and add baby powder on top - that's what I'm getting. Baby powder scents, for me, are a fine line between a) stunning sweet powderiness or b) powder on top of sweat (as Tessture says, a few reviews below, "unwashed skin horror"). This is a bit more of column b than a. Not disgustingly so, on my skin, but enough to ruin it.

I was very intrigued by the notes list on this one, and I love the affordable pricing. It goes on my skin nicely but doesn't last: The cypress and bergamot temper what turns out rapidly to be a sweet, sticky, heavy leathery resin. It dries down very fast to this leathery labdanum and stays that way for the rest of it’s life. I love cistus labdanum/rock rose but sometimes the sweet elements are too much and here, with the very strong leathery aspects, I am not liking it much. It lasted all day as a skin scent though, so it has low sillage but wonderful tenacity. I would have loved to have smelled more plum.

I hated this. It goes on a lovely woody incense blend and instantly transforms into a terrible musky unwashed skin horror. Lasts all day past multiple strenuous Dawn Dish liquid scrubbings and even struggles to come through a heavy coat of deodorant. I HATED this. It will work for some, but on me the unwashed smell comes up pretty powerfully and it’s awful. But wow, does it last. Conversely, it works on my sister. Sample before buying, even at these good prices.

🌿🍇 Very heavy Fruitchuli vibes! 🍇🌿 It’s like someone mixed juicy fruit with a massive, earthy patchouli base. I was so excited for the plum (seriously, that’s why I bought it!! 🍑💃), but oh noooo... it’s giving vintage old-lady vibes 😅👵💐. Honestly, it reminds me a bit too much of Shalimar, almost like I stumbled into Grandma’s powder room 🚪🚿💨. Was totally hoping for more sugar plum fairy sweetness 🎄🍭 and less “bathroom spray from 1962” 💨🚽👵.

Un parfum qui sens bon mais qu'on ne veux pas porter . La prune confite est délicieuse et me rappelle l'odeur d'une bonne confiture , couplé à une légère vanille , le mélange est farfelue mais beau . En notes de fond on sens énormément le bois de santal qui persiste. La 1 ere heure il projette beaucoup et laisse un bon sillage . Concernant la tenue elle est au dessus de la moyenne mais pas monstrueuse.

I mean I sprayed this on and it's a wow! I have never tested any thing like it before. The immediate scent is a mixture of cinnamon, smoke and cedar. It's like Christmas! As it opens up plum takes center stage. It is very sweet like wearing candied fruits. I just really didnt expect to like this as much as I do! I think it will be my holiday fragrance this year!

401 Bon Parfumer is an incensy, Vanilla & Plum & cedar uncomplicated and nice fragrance. I saw a review onYouTube Marco 4 U Perfumes He is right, it's not similar to Plum Japonais Tom Ford ! Very pleasant scent , I got a great deal, 40 € for a 100 ML bottle. Very satisfied 😀

I'm interested in possibly blind buying this but can anyone tell me...does this have an oud or leathery/saffron note? I see that it reminds people of scents that have those notes and those notes are a hell no for me.

Salty plum, vanilla and woods. Incense and a bit of patchouli. It is very similar to Plum Japonais. I believe it is a better alternative to plum japonais than feminité du bois because it is clioser to the TF.

This is a slightly medicinal plum fruitchuli. Resinous and a little vintage smelling. Can be sexy on the right person like a gothic style girl. I don't think I like it enough to buy a full bottle. It is ok.

This is a let down. Incense destroys it. Smells cheap . Smells to potpourri for me. Slightly feminine. Tom Fords Plum Japonais is miles better if you have the funds for it.

This one smells exactly like a "pot-pourri" whiff you would get entering a shop that sells low-quality candles, pot-pourri and other room frangrances. Very overrated.

this is GORGEOUS, beautifully reminiscent of the original feminite du bois, all magical resinous cedar and dark plums, swirling velvety warmth. i absolutely love it.

This is a light, woody fragrance with a bit of incense and fruit. Doesn't hit gourmand territory at all and it stays close to the skin. It is 'okay' to me.

I stay away from notes of cinnamon, coconut and patchouli ( mostly ).Yuk. This frag has a bad reputation .

Blind buy this because of the plum notes. And 100% regret it.
