402 vanilla, toffee, sandalwood

402 opens with a delicious vanilla essence (like the one used in baking), fresh apple and almond blossom and slowly progresses towards caramel notes. It settles there for a while and then a lovely woody sandalwood balm remains on your skin. Overall it's sweet but it's also subtle, as with most Bon Parfumeur fragrances. Again, this is not Mugler or Gaultier, so don't expect huge projection that will annoy people around you. On the other hand, the subtlety means that they will be drawn to you and possibly want to nibble your neck in the process! Bon Parfumeur fragrances aren't designed to make too much of a statement, they are more great quality for day-to-day wear that will complement you. They aren't trying to be groundbreaking or too unique, just natural smelling, fresh and unpretentious. This works well for both men and women. Hey, men can also smell delicious with 402!

A mainstay in my autumn/winter rotation, this is a delicious, indulgent vanilla. Nothing complicated, but I have been told I smell ‘edible’ when wearing it. I’m a little surprised to see reviews classifying 402 as soft or light. On my skin, the caramel is thick and sweet, just teetering short of being overpowering sometimes. (I have to be mindful of wearing too much 402 in enclosed public spaces!) But the musk and heliotrope provide a balancing aspect, the latter lending a subtle almondy touch. Thankfully, I don’t get any harshness or plastic from the benzoin in the base. Perhaps 402’s a polarizing scent that plays differently on each person’s skin, but I’ll be looking forward to cold weather so I can wear it again.

This is such a gorgeous scent! First spritz is a blast of Vanilla with a hint of spice though and it melts into this creamy sticky sweet scent. I saw a reviews below from Angel123 and January Zero about the sunscreen scent and they are SO right. This is my childhood in a bottle, the sea, the sun, the sunscreen and vanilla ice cream and feeling sticky all over. I live in a Hot and Humid place, but this performed exceptionally well for me. Lasted 6+ hours on my skin and clothes, although projection is more intimate. I don't think this smells like "any old body spray"

This is one of my favourites from the sampler bag! It's a very pretty vanilla, and I also smell benzoin or maybe almond. I don't find it cheap, heavy or overly gourmandy at all. Sure, there are many vanilla scents on the market, but so many veer into too sweet or artificial. This one strikes the right note for me - sweet but not too sweet, and fairly light so I don't get overwhelmed or tired of wearing it.

I really enjoy this one. It’s sweet, warm vanilla with an almost amber note (it’s not listed so maybe it’s the caramel mixed with benzoin). It lasted on me for several hours 4-6 hours & I could still smell it. I gives me a familiar smell that I just can’t put my finger on what is but it’s nostalgic to me. Personally I love this scent! Sweet gourmand - if you like pink sugar type scents - try this one!

Sampling Bon Parfumeur 402 Vanilla Caramel Sandalwood, a delicately sharp, sweet, and woody blend, with the second note listed as toffee or caramel, depending on the language, and it seems to blend well with the woody sharpness of the sandalwood, regardless, a bridge to the sweeter vanilla. In total, the blend is not too sweet, instead almost floral and a bit feminine, gourmand-adjacent while not being totally gourmand. Definitely nicely put together while not being a huge standout, but after trying a couple of pleasant, green freshies, it’s interesting to see an example from the brand of something a bit more gourmand-like, a little heavier while not being excessively heavy. I quite like it. It’s EDP concentration with retail pricing of $100/53/34 for 100/30/15ml via boutiques like Ministry of Scent, so quite reasonable in the current market, and the brand generally seems to be available in the grey market, also. 7 out of 10

This is the perfect candy vanilla to me. I don't like apple notes in perfume as it is usually a note that is very screetchy and unnatural but it's gorgeous here! I see the comparison to Black Sugar, I love that one too, but 402 is more centered around caramel, it's more feminine and smells like the lip balms and scented toys of my 80s childhood. 402 is childhood in a bottle for me. It is not refined or classy, but I love it for what it is. Unlike many scents in this category it isn't cloying, bland or screetchy. Love it!

Very dreamy fragrance. It has some musky almondy dry powderiness in it. Obviously the caramel and vanilla are prominent, like you have a perfect dessert in front of you, poured with icy sugar. The caramel is different than you can find in Prada candy. This toffee is lighter. The perfume has in some places almost green facets, like an unripe banana. It is rich, dry, sweet and noticeable. If you know Comptoir Sud Pacific: Amour de Cacao, or Molinard: Secret Sucre, you will know what I talk about. Very very pretty.

This is an almond vanilla skin scent that lasts a few hours at a time. Someone compared it to a vanilla body mist. No. This is well blended with no alcohol reverb that comes with body mists. It smells like one note; like a sweet extension of your own scent. It does not smell like you are wearing perfume. More like you've walked past something vanilla and a little is lingering on your skin. If you want to be incognito but love vanilla, this is for you.

Really sad to say it doesn't smell complex in any type of way on my skin. However... I still like it? It just smells like soft, vanilla sugar with caramel syrup undertones. Makes me think of a watered-down version of Lush's Let The Good Times Roll bodyspray. I'm not sure I would buy this but I now enjoy it more than 501, the other gourmand perfume from Bon Parfumeur. I really wish I could smell some of the other notes. I don't get the apple at all.

This is really nice! It’s this lovely, soft, almost milky, vanilla caramel scent on my skin, that i actually really quite like. I wouldn't call it a gourmand though, since it doesn't smell edible. It’s sweet in the same way a vanilla shampoo or bodyscrub is, not in the way a desert is. It has this very clean airyness to it that i think might stem from the almond and florals, though i don't hate it.

Be careful on the opening, it is straight vanilla and almond extract. Settles into a soft caramel, like the kind you put on brownies. Smells like you are baking delicious pastries, heavy and sweet. This lasts forever on me, and never loses its strength. It's a powerful, syrupy smell, so a little goes a long way. One spray on my wrist lasted until the following day. Mouthwateringly delicious.

Sweet and gourmand. Abysmal longevity. Literally nothing after an hour - a pity as the smell itself is lovely, not too strong and not too sweet - just right. However, not detectable after more than an hour (why?!). Light gourmand that can be pulled off even in hot summer. Got also another fragrance from Bon Parfumeur and sadly the longevity was also far from what I've expected.

Super cute sweet, clean, soapy coconut-y caramel fragrance, very childish and reminiscent of summer and almond blossom scented kids’ shampoo ! It smells like far away fun, innocent times...Although a little cough syrup-y, it’s very nostalgic and comforting to me, I really like it. It’s surprisingly very unique and unlike anything I’ve smelled before, and is very well made.

This is everything I wanted Kilian Love Don't Be Shy to be but isn't. Gourmand without being cloying. I can really smell the toffee and vanilla. The sandalwood is not noticeable but it's there. It's yummy and sexy but with a dreamy innocence. Too bad the longevity is not that good. I can barely smell it after 3 hours.

It's a warm, gourmand vanilla that would be an absolute LOVE if it wasn't for that sandalwood! When I smelled it in the store it was soo delicious, but the sandalwood gives this a spicy sharpness that I personally don't like. I will still wear this when the mood strikes, since it's a nice evening scent.

This smells deliciously similar to vanilla pudding. At the same time there's something clean about the scent too. It reminds me quite a bit of Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Mandorlo di Sicilia. Sillage is unfortunately somewhat modest. For me this is quite a unisex scent.

On me this is a salty light vanilla, it's definitely not a warm one. It had pretty good sillage on my arm, I could smell it on my arm while it was down by my side. I sprayed it on around 10pm and I could still smell it the next day when I woke up.

pretty affordable, nice when you want to wear something casually but don't want to break out the expensive stuff. to me it smells exactly like sunscreen ice cream. i like to wear it after i've been swimming... <3

Mellow gourmand which is an easy wear, but nothing groundbreaking.

I'm testing the Bon Perfumer discovery set of 23 fragrances blind. I haven't looked up anything about the brand or the fragrances. I'm working through the cute little bottles in their numbered order. 402 opens musky with a floral character and a hint of marshmallow sweetness, making it pretty and scrumptious at the same time. A little later the depth of the musk flattens and the sweetness turns into cotton candy being freshly made. This makes the fragrance lean more feminine. Looking at the notes now, it's not as sweet as one might assume, nor is it overtly sugary. To me it is just the right amount of sweetness. And it is more musky then the notes suggest. While the almond blossom and heliotrope suggest a more almond forward scent, I didn't really get almonds (roasted, toasted, salted, or malted). The benzoin is more prominent in the base as the scent wears on. Unlike many in this collection the sillage was moderate, not intimate, making this fragrance more economically viable. While I personally like the scent,it is too feminine for myself.

So I basically blind bought this one, expecting a very sweet and warm scent. The notes of caramel, vanilla, and sandalwood really got me excited on paper... Unfortunately, when I smelled it for the first time, I absolutely hated it — there was this plasticky, almost medicinal note that hit my nose. But one day I decided to give it another try, and it was much better. I could actually pick up the vanilla and a touch of toffee. However, it’s still a pretty *mid* perfume — not bad for the price, but nothing extraordinary either. If you’re expecting a super rich, ultra-gourmand scent, you might be disappointed. I did get a few compliments from friends who usually dislike caramel or vanilla perfumes because they find them too sweet, so this one is definitely not overly sugary. The sillage is quite light, and the longevity isn’t great either.

Unfortunalty this comes off as juvenile on my skin, and not in an acceptable way (like Zouzou or Dans Paris by Celine, for example), and worse still, it smells cheap. That aside, I also don't appreciate the combination of ultra-sweet, milky notes and apple, it gets nauseating. I don't think it's a terrible perfume but it's not for me and I don't want to smell it on anyone around me.

Sweet and comforting caramel notes are far too subtle to actually enjoy. Powdery sugar notes as well from sandalwood which are nice but again very understated. This would have been purchased if it had better projection and sillage, and with an added salty/buttery or smoky note.

Sweet caramel and fig lightened and freshened by apple, no nasty or artificial notes, but it's sooo faint! I can't smell it unless my nose is literally on my arm.

It opens up with Mmm... by JHG (berry) and then quickly drys down to Eilish (sugar, caramel). A very pretty sweet perfume, not too complicated or unique.

Floral and overtly sugary vanilla syrup. Nothing remarkable here.

Very mild almond body lotion scent, boring.

Opens with an alcohol blast. Quickly dries down to a mix of vanilla and toffee and after a few minutes the sandalwood marks its presence. It’s a nice blend of vanilla and wood, that’s neither too sweet nor too dark or woody, although slightly synthetic. The main problem is, that the perfomance is worse than a body spray. Only the alcohol blast projects, and then the woody vanilla toffee is present for maximum an hour (even when oversprayed). And it’s barely even a skin scent. It’s like a synthetic and waaaay way watered down version of Zafeer Oud Vanille from Alexandre J. If you like the woody vanilla scent profile I would suggest buying ZOV instead, as it performs way better and doesn’t smell as chemical. Price is almost the same as ZOV goes for 140€, often discounted at 70€ or lower. If you like the sugary vanilla/toffee scent profile I’d suggest Fire At Will from Jovoy or Bianco Latte from Giardini Di Toscana. Again, price is similar, 125-145€ but way better performance (and IMO these fragrances smell better). If you want a cheap vanilla fragrance I’d suggest getting a body spray. I got one for 3€ that performs way better than this. Would not pay 100€ for this.

My first spray of this is a very resinous note. Not as in yummy resin but as in plastic resin. Like the comercial body splash your classmate in HS wore and which gave synthetic. It actually smells like burnt rubber from the road or like you left a plastic spatula on the grill and it melted. There is a warm vanilla behind it but I do not want to wade through a charnel ground of tires to get at it. There's some almond which is precious but not worth the trouble. I am very sad bc I thought I had found my new signature scent as I love all those notes on paper. I will resume my search for the perfect gourmand.

A sweet, nice almonds vanilla perfume. Not extravagant with a personal sillage. It will be suit to people who’s don’t like beast perfume, very innocent scent. It reminds me « La Danza delle Libellule » with lower intensity which I don’t love at all. So this perfume is not for me.

I just sprayed some on my skin at the department store and yeah nah we say, meaning NO. Unless you want to smell like a generic supermarket vanilla candle? It is well blended, but yeah nah.

I can barelly smell this and I can't detect anything either. Pure disappointment or should I wait more to let it rest? It's just something vaguely sweet but not too much, airy and liquidy.

Artificial vanilla that dissipated within minutes - giving this one away

All I can smell is cheap, artificial vanilla.

It’s actually embarrassing that this is $105...warm vanilla sugar by bath and body works smells like more authentic vanilla than this. This is genuinely one of the worst perfumes I’ve ever sampled and it doesn’t help that my hopes were so high. I’m not sure how you mess up these notes...but it smelled like vanilla Play-Doh if that was a thing.

This sugary vanilla, pleasant but simple and performing poorly on my skin, briefly passed through my collection. I didn't feel like it lasted long enough to wear it in public or that it had the complexity I would look for in a vanilla perfume in its price range. I finally decided that, since I would have basically only used it at home, it should pass into other hands who could enjoy it more. On me it has a soft sillage and lasts about 3 hours at most. Scent 5/10 Duration 3/10 Sillage 5.5/10 Quality/price 2/10 Versatility 2/10 Packaging 7/10 Would I buy again? No

OK, so since I'm only the second reviewer, it's sort of easy to have things be unanimous. I agree with Jennylovesjohnny--this is a pleasant candle scent, but if I think about all the other scents I COULD be wearing, this is not worth the real estate on my wrist. For a much nicer vanilla experience, several of the options from Maison de Vanille can bring the joy...

There was a Victoria's secret body spray that someone gave me back in the 90s somewhere called vanilla lace. This smells exactly like that. I mean exactly. Because in the way that only scent memories can, it immediately makes me think of watching the x-files. It's not bad though, classy and not screechy. Blast from the past.

This is vanilla Carmel, sugar, and benzoin. This is an easy reach for a sweet warm, comforting scent in the fall or winter. I think this would be a compliment getter because it’s not heavy but it’s there. I really like this.

I need to try this one again but I sprayed this on my neck and got some lovely soft whiffs of a slightly sweet, fresh and floral vanilla. Slight plastic doll head smell but I kind of like it. Might be good for layering.

It's... Okay? Its definitly sweet, as in, sweet like cough syrup. If you're looking for something sweet or gourmand, there's definitely better options. But it's not terrible, just fine imo.

A very sweet and long lasting whipped vanilla cream with toffee drizzle. Childlike in it's intensity. For the sweet toothy gourmand who doesn't want to spend a lot to smell delish. ✨

Smells like body lotion with almond and powdered sugar I don’t think it’s gourmand, also don’t get any crème brule or caramel. Clean scent, very mild

To me, this smells like vanilla extract with a hint of sunscreen that dries down to a vanilla playdough note. It’s nice, but nothing exciting.
